Chapter 55
In the end, Lin An’an got the kiss he wanted.
The tiny little mecha covered its eyes and let out a weird, “Ewww!”
Then Feng Wu slapped a hand over its head and smacked the whole mini mecha down under the seat.
By the time Silver Armor floated back up again, Feng Wu and Lin An’an had already returned to their respective seats.
Silver Armor let out a regretful sigh.
The silver-white mecha, which had paused in the void for a moment, started moving again. Lin An’an looked at the display screen and realized that the scenery outside was far more beautiful than what he had seen near Sin Star before. Even the light reflected off the distant planets seemed brighter.
“Where are we now?” Lin An’an asked.
Feng Wu said, “In about another half hour, we’ll reach the next spacetime transfer point. As for the Imperial border… there are still eight hours left.”
Lin An’an nodded. “How many spacetime transfer points are left in total?”
Feng Wu calculated for a moment. “Six.”
The bit of color Lin An’an had only just regained in his face immediately drained away again.
One spacetime transfer had already made him miserable enough, and there were still six more to go…
A warm hand came down to rub his head gently. Feng Wu said softly, “If you feel too uncomfortable, try sleeping for a while. If you’re asleep, the reaction to the spacetime transfer won’t be as bad.”
Lin An’an sighed. “I’ll try.”
Although spacetime transfer made him feel terrible, he was so mentally wound up right now that falling asleep probably would not be easy.
Feng Wu controlled the mecha with his mental power, only switching modes manually once in a while. Lin An’an pulled over Feng Wu’s free hand and held it in his arms, while his gaze stayed fixed on the observation screen beside them.
If he did not count the life he had lived in that other world, this was the first time since birth that he had ever truly seen the universe of this world.
It was even more beautiful than the one from the world he had once lived in. Even the planets shimmered with different colors.
Feng Wu glanced at him. Lin An’an’s hand was a little smaller than his and a little fairer. When the two hands were clasped together, the contrast was especially obvious.
Soft and warm, as if he were playing with some novel little object.
The tiny Silver Armor darted around inside the cockpit, then stopped beside their interlocked hands and stared at them for a long time. Pink bubbles practically seemed to pop up over its virtual head.
This time, although their goal in leaving Sin Star was the eldest prince Xia Changluo, who was on the Capital Star, neither Lin An’an nor Feng Wu planned to head there directly.
The Capital Star’s security level was the highest in the entire Empire. On top of that, Xia Changluo stayed inside Aimeo Palace, where the defensive forces were so strong that even Feng Wu alone would find it difficult to slip in unnoticed, much less while bringing Lin An’an with him.
So Lin An’an set his sights on Xia Changluo’s birthday banquet.
If he remembered correctly, his eldest brother Xia Changluo’s birthday was only about a week away.
A birthday banquet for an imperial prince naturally had to be held, and without exception, such banquets were always hosted in Aimeo Palace.
If this had been before, Feng Wu, as the Empire’s Marshal, would naturally have received an invitation. But now that Feng Wu was far away on Sin Star, even if Xia Changluo wanted to invite him, it would have been impossible.
Fortunately, after Feng Wu contacted Mo Dexin, who was stationed with the First Legion, he learned that Mo Dexin had received Xia Changluo’s invitation.
When the birthday banquet was about to begin, Mo Dexin would attend, and Feng Wu and Lin An’an would disguise themselves as Mo Dexin’s adjutants and slip in with him. Their objective would then be achieved.
At the eldest prince’s birthday banquet, the Emperor Xia Jiyuan and the first prince Xia Yuanhan would definitely both appear as well.
It would be the perfect chance for Lin An’an to secretly observe Xia Jiyuan’s condition, and if they could also seize an opportunity to catch Xia Yuanhan by the tail, that would be even better.
Lin An’an ran through the plan they had already set in his mind once again.
Several hours later, Silver Armor finally passed through the last spacetime transfer point and arrived near the Imperial border defense line.
Lin An’an’s face was deathly pale. He covered his mouth and for a long while could not speak.
Feng Wu held his hand and found it icy cold, entirely lacking its usual warmth. His brow immediately furrowed.
He took out another mint candy, tore open the wrapper, and put it into Lin An’an’s mouth.
The cool mint flavor slightly drove away the nausea and queasiness churning inside him. Lin An’an let out a breath and slumped against the copilot seat, his body so weak it felt as though all his bones had been pulled out.
“Do you feel a little better?” Feng Wu asked.
“A little bit.” Lin An’an lifted a finger to show a tiny amount. “If you kissed me, I’d probably feel even better.”
Feng Wu: “…Stop fooling around.”
“I’m not fooling around. I’m serious.” Lin An’an turned to look at him. “Research has shown that when people do intimate things with their lover, the body secretes a substance called dopamine. In some situations, dopamine really can help relieve physical and emotional discomfort.”
Lin An’an scooted a little closer to him. “Like right now. One kiss would definitely make me feel much better than I do now.”
The boy’s expression was serious and solemn, as if he were genuinely discussing a proper academic issue. But stripped down to its bluntest meaning, what he was really doing was asking Feng Wu for a kiss.
Feng Wu fell silent for two seconds and found that he could not refuse any request Lin An’an made of him.
Lin An’an poked him in the chest as if urging him on. Feng Wu’s body stiffened. He caught the mischievous finger in one hand, then lowered his head in obedience to his own heart.
The flavor of mint candy spread between their lips and teeth. Lin An’an let out a comfortable sigh, and even that sigh was immediately swallowed by Feng Wu.
When the kiss ended, Feng Wu released the tiny mecha that he had pinned under the driver’s seat.
Silver Armor muttered in a plaintive tone, “Now that Master has a little master, there’s no place left for Silver Armor in the cockpit.”
Though it said that, there was not much grievance in its voice. Instead, there was a strange hint of delight.
Lin An’an smiled and leaned back against the copilot seat, fully satisfied. Sure enough, the dizziness and nausea had lessened by quite a bit.
Not long after, Silver Armor’s voice sounded again. “Detected Black Crow mecha directly ahead. Shall speed be reduced for approach?”
“No need,” Feng Wu said. When he noticed Lin An’an’s confused look, he explained, “Black Crow is Mo Dexin’s mecha. He’s here to receive us.”
They planned to stay first at the First Legion’s base where Mo Dexin was stationed, then head to the Capital Star with him when the banquet drew near.
This stretch of the Imperial border defense line was under the First Legion’s charge. Having Mo Dexin come receive them was far more convenient than Feng Wu breaking through the line and sneaking in himself.
From far away, Lin An’an spotted the pitch-black mecha. Black Crow lifted a hand and waved to them, and Silver Armor immediately announced in the cockpit, “Black Crow requests to establish communication. Approve?”
Feng Wu said, “Approve.”
“Boss.” Mo Dexin’s voice sounded at once. “It’s been a hard trip.”
“Mm.” Feng Wu said indifferently, “Return to base first.”
Feng Wu’s return to the Empire could not be known by others, so Mo Dexin led the way in front and brought Feng Wu down outside the base.
After disguising themselves, Feng Wu and Lin An’an jumped out of the mecha and got into the military vehicle Mo Dexin had prepared in advance.
Mo Dexin sat in the driver’s seat and looked at the two in the back through the rearview mirror. “Boss, everyone’s been waiting for you to come back.”
By “you,” he naturally meant Feng Wu, Xiong Yingjun, and Si Youlin.
“I know,” Feng Wu nodded. “But now still isn’t the time for them to know.”
Mo Dexin said, “I understand. Put these on.”
He handed Feng Wu two small wristbands. “These can hide your forms and let you pass all the base’s defense scans. I rushed them out yesterday. Once you’re done using them this time, destroy them.”
Feng Wu said, “All right.”
He helped Lin An’an put his on before putting on his own.
Mo Dexin had been watching the pair through the rearview mirror the whole time, and when he saw Feng Wu personally fastening Lin An’an’s wristband, surprise flashed across his face.
Although he had already heard about Feng Wu and Lin An’an’s relationship from Si Youlin, hearing about it was one thing; seeing it with his own eyes was another.
Love really could change a person. If this had been before, there was no way his boss would personally do something like helping someone put on a wristband.
Mo Dexin withdrew his gaze, but after a while, he could not help glancing into the mirror again, only to find that the boy sitting beside Feng Wu already looked tired and had dozed off against Feng Wu’s shoulder.
In the rearview mirror, Feng Wu raised one finger and made a shushing gesture. Mo Dexin nodded in understanding and immediately kept quiet.
The rest of the ride passed in silence.
The car soon reached the base. In order not to arouse suspicion, Mo Dexin had even hunted down a few exotic beasts along the way.
Someone outside the car exclaimed, “Oh, it’s Brother Mo’s car!”
Mo Dexin stopped the vehicle and tossed the storage button in his hand to the person outside. “Caught a few exotic beasts. We’re adding to dinner tonight.”
“Got it!” the person outside said cheerfully.
Lin An’an blinked. The whole way here, he had been observing the outside. What surprised him was the atmosphere of this base.
If he had to describe it in one phrase, then after thinking it through, Lin An’an felt that “full of warmth” suited it best.
The defensive forces here were strong, but compared to the military bases in his impression, this place carried far more human warmth.
It felt more like a big family than something that could simply be summed up by the word “base.”
Mo Dexin drove them to the residential area.
The commanders’ quarters were in a separate building. No one else could enter without permission.
Naturally, Feng Wu’s room was also there.
Only after they entered the building did they switch off the wristbands’ concealment mode.
“Boss, your rooms have always been kept in order. You can move right in,” Mo Dexin said. “Would sister-in-law like to stay in Third’s room or Fourth’s?”
Lin An’an froze for a second. “What did you call me?”
Mo Dexin also froze. His tone turned hesitant. “…Sister-in-law?”
Seeing Feng Wu’s ears redden again, Lin An’an’s eyes curved into a smile. “Not bad. I like that title.”
