How The Little Medical Cultivator Saves the Furries – CH5

Chapter 5

At the front gate of the sanatorium, the shuttle vehicle returning from the docking port slowly drove in.

“The Royal Sanatorium?”

“We were actually assigned to such a core department!”

From afar, a tall, imposing building stood at the center of the complex, with the gilded words “Royal Sanatorium” engraved on its exterior wall.

Even Ye Yumeng couldn’t hide his curiosity.

From the moment he got off the spaceship until now, he had already seen many high-tech things he had never encountered before—not just him, even the original owner’s memories had none of these.

Of course, what delighted him the most was that the spiritual energy density on the Medical Planet was higher than in the Xihe Federation.

This meant he no longer had to worry about his cultivation.

Their vehicle didn’t head toward the tallest building but turned instead into an outer section of the compound.

After getting off, a woman who looked like a head nurse approached them.

“Why are there only you three?”

Tian Fu frowned at the list. Without waiting for an explanation, she opened her light computer and consulted the system.

Within seconds, she had her answer.

Learning that the other three would arrive later, Tian Fu didn’t comment further and asked Ye Yumeng and the others to introduce themselves first.

About ten minutes later, Gao Hui and the other two finally arrived.

Seeing the head nurse and the others waiting at the entrance, the three flushed red, dragging their luggage as they hurried into line.

“Welcome to Yaojin Medical Planet – Royal Sanatorium. You will be working here for the next six months.”

Head Nurse Tian Fu said,

“For the coming week, you will undergo training and an entry assessment. Based on your results, the sanatorium will assign your positions…”

Ye Yumeng listened carefully, feeling slightly relieved.

Fortunately, they wouldn’t be thrown straight into work. Otherwise, he would likely make a fool of himself on the first day—after all, he truly didn’t understand those modern instruments and medical terminology.

During training, their main area of activity would be this No.1 courtyard, while the central core area was off-limits.

Soon after, they received their identity badges.

“On the Medical Planet, you won’t be able to move freely without your ID badge. Keep it with you at all times.”

After saying this, Tian Fu asked, “Is everything clear? Any questions?”

At that moment, Gao Hui, who had looked gloomy from the start, raised his hand.

After receiving permission, he suddenly said, “Ye Yumeng has a leg injury. I’m afraid he won’t be able to handle this job.”

Ye Yumeng froze, not expecting Gao Hui to target him at this moment.

It was true that he was inconvenienced by the cast, but once it was removed, his leg would be fine…

Before he could explain, the head nurse spoke.

“Whether he is capable is for the Royal Sanatorium to decide.”

“Here, you only need to follow orders and perform your duties. Don’t meddle in matters outside your responsibilities!”

“And instead of worrying about others, you should assess your own condition first. If you faint while caring for a patient, that would be considered a serious fault.”

Clearly, the system report had been thorough—Tian Fu even knew the reason for their delay.

Gao Hui’s face turned livid. He opened his mouth to argue but, under her cold gaze, could only nod reluctantly.

Seeing the head nurse defend him, Ye Yumeng felt somewhat surprised.

This Medical Planet seemed different from what he had imagined. Perhaps he really could stay here…

When Tian Fu’s gaze swept over him, Ye Yumeng didn’t shrink back. Instead, he smiled openly.

Originally intending to warn him as well, Tian Fu paused and swallowed her words.

She sized him up, frowning slightly.

This thin, fragile-looking boy—wouldn’t he be scared to tears by those troublesome beast-blood patients?

Tian Fu was a very robust woman. Compared to her, not only Ye Yumeng and the two girls, but even the other three male caregivers looked diminished.

It was obvious she had little confidence in these six recruits from the Xihe Federation.

In fact, she had always been skeptical about the director’s decision to recruit new caregivers from there.

From appearance alone, none of these six matched her standards. It was hard to imagine them lasting even a single round against rampaging beast-blood patients.

Especially since one of them was technically still “underage.”

In the interstellar era, the average human lifespan had reached 150 years, and in the Yaojin Empire it was even higher. Accordingly, adulthood was defined differently.

Now, it was set at 25 years old.

Although most people physically matured by 18, society generally believed true mental maturity only came at 25.

If not for this special recruitment following Xihe Federation standards, Ye Yumeng—still a few months shy of 25—wouldn’t have been able to come here at all.

After a few more glances, Tian Fu shook her head and withdrew her gaze. The internship lasted six months—this boy might not even make it through.

She was about to continue the orientation when she suddenly felt a powerful wave of mental pressure sweep over them.

What was happening?

The No.1 courtyard didn’t handle patients… could it be that another patient had gone berserk and escaped?

Cold sweat formed on Tian Fu’s forehead as she scanned the surroundings—then spotted two figures in the distance.

One was Director Lei Qi. The other was…

Suddenly, she felt the pressure lessen.

She exhaled slightly in relief—but quickly realized it hadn’t weakened, it had concentrated!

Her gaze turned toward the six Xihe caregivers.

When Mo Yin released his mental pressure, Ye Yumeng sensed it immediately.

It felt like a powerful form of spiritual awareness. Strangely, though, he didn’t seem affected.

Seeing Gan Xiaoyang and the others completely unaware, Ye Yumeng also pretended nothing had happened.

Sure enough, when Tian Fu looked at them again, her eyes held a different gleam—like she had discovered treasure.

Could this also be some kind of test?

While Ye Yumeng pondered, the pressure quickly withdrew. He restrained his curiosity, not daring to look around.

Soon, Tian Fu regained her composure and led them away.

“Well? Not bad, right?” Lei Qi said with a hint of pride.

It was well known that the ruling beings of the interstellar world were beastmen—capable of switching between human and beast forms.

Human form granted intelligence, while beast blood granted power.

The higher the rank and purity of one’s beast bloodline, the greater the strength.

High-level beast-blood warriors could even traverse space with their physical bodies. The Yaojin Empire’s vast resources and territories were largely thanks to such individuals.

The uniqueness of the Xihe Federation lay in this—

Ninety-nine percent of its ancestors were “defectives” who had migrated from other interstellar nations.

Though born into beastman families, their beast-blood concentration was nearly nonexistent. In a society that revered beast blood, the hardships they faced growing up were unimaginable.

Where there was oppression, there was resistance.

These oppressed groups eventually fled into space and seized an abandoned planet with little beastman presence, establishing a nation composed entirely of “pure-blood humans”—

The Xihe Federation.

Since the planet had little value and many of the defectors were beloved children of their families, public opinion remained relatively tolerant.

After all, they hadn’t caused real harm—they only sought a place free from discrimination.

Under public pressure, the Yaojin royal family chose not to punish them, effectively ignoring their existence.

After years of development, the Xihe Federation carved out its own path through technology, and relations with the Yaojin Empire gradually improved.

Following formal diplomatic ties, studies revealed that Xihe humans had undergone genetic changes.

A significant portion of them were completely immune to bloodline suppression.

No matter how strong the empire’s beast-blood or mental pressure, they felt nothing—neither positive nor negative effects.

Whether this was evolution or degeneration remained unclear, but in the Royal Sanatorium, it made them invaluable.

That was why the Medical Planet had gone all the way to recruit from the Xihe Federation.

Of course, this was the first attempt, and whether it would succeed remained to be seen.

Now was the time to test it.

Mo Yin nodded. “They did withstand my mental pressure, but it’s still too early to conclude.”

“Of course.”

Reality would be more complicated. Still, Mo Yin was one of the empire’s top experts. Though he had lost an arm, his mental power remained unaffected.

Being able to resist his pressure already placed them above most medical staff.

Lei Qi smiled. “Then shall we go visit His Majesty next?”

Mo Yin watched the departing Xihe caregivers, his gaze settling on the last figure—the one leaning on crutches. His eyes flickered slightly.

“He’s called Ye Yumeng, right?”

Lei Qi knew that after stepping back from the front lines, Mo Yin had joined the intelligence department, so he wasn’t surprised by his familiarity with this batch of recruits.

“Seems so.” Lei Qi glanced at the light computer in his hand. “Is there something wrong with him?”

“He seems able to sense my mental power,” Mo Yin said.

Lei Qi froze. “That’s impossible, isn’t it?”

If someone could sense Mo Yin’s mental power and remain completely unaffected by its pressure, then they themselves should possess mental power—and not at a low level either!

“Let’s observe a bit longer. I might be mistaken,” Mo Yin said, not rushing to a conclusion.

He withdrew his gaze. “I’d like to visit His Majesty.”

“Alright, this way.”

The first day of training was simple, mainly covering the sanatorium’s rules, the duties of caregivers, and so on.

Of course, it also included contract signing and an explanation of employee benefits.

During the probation period, the monthly salary was 20,000 Yaojin coins. Not only were meals and accommodation provided, each person also had a private dormitory, and transportation on the Medical Planet was fully covered.

Only then did Ye Yumeng learn that the exchange rate between Yaojin coins and Xihe currency was 1:10.

Which meant…

The 1.2 million Xihe coins the original owner had advanced were actually his entire six months’ salary!

After a quick calculation, Ye Yumeng realized he had less than 1,000 Yaojin coins left. If not for the Medical Planet covering food and lodging, these six months would have been extremely difficult.

Even now, things were tight—but at least he didn’t have to worry about basic necessities.

After the first day of training, the head nurse issued each of them a work light computer before dismissing them.

“Yezi, let’s go back to the dorm!”

The male and female dormitories were separate. Mo Jingyun stayed in another building, while Gan Xiaoyang was next door to Ye Yumeng.

“I want to get my cast removed first,” Ye Yumeng said.

“Is your leg really healed?” Gan Xiaoyang frowned. “Don’t listen to Gao Hui stirring trouble—even the head nurse didn’t say you had a problem.”

Ye Yumeng had to explain that his injury had indeed mostly recovered and the cast could be removed.

“That’s good.”

Gan Xiaoyang sighed in relief. “Come on, I’ll go with you to the staff clinic.”

The staff clinic was located within the No.1 courtyard, making it very convenient. Moreover, 80% of medical expenses were reimbursed for employees—a very generous benefit.

Ye Yumeng entered the consultation room while Gan Xiaoyang waited outside.

The doctor had a small mustache and slightly graying hair, clearly experienced.

“This kind of outdated treatment method—I haven’t seen it in years…”

The doctor’s remark while removing the cast made Ye Yumeng feel a bit embarrassed.

Because in the Xihe Federation, this was still quite common—at least according to the original owner’s memory.

Once the cast was removed, Ye Yumeng immediately felt much lighter.

“Your bone hasn’t fully healed yet. For the next two weeks, avoid frequent movement, or it may leave lasting issues.”

While reviewing his records, the doctor suddenly let out a soft “hmm,” then looked up at him.

“Is there an error in the system? You’re only 24?”

Ye Yumeng blinked in confusion. “That’s correct.”

The doctor still looked doubtful until he saw the nationality field, then suddenly understood.

“You’re from the Xihe Federation?”

“Yes.”

The doctor frowned, muttering something like “ridiculous” under his breath, clearly displeased.

Recalling the way Gao Hui and the others had treated him, Ye Yumeng chose to remain silent.

Just as he was about to leave, the doctor stopped him, opened a drawer, grabbed something, and gestured for him to hold out his hand.

When Ye Yumeng looked, he realized… it was candy?

He blinked, puzzled.

Then he heard the doctor say kindly, “You can apply for a mobility device—it’ll make things easier.”

Another unfamiliar term. Ye Yumeng quickly asked, “Mobility device? How do I apply?”

“Just fill out a form on your light computer.” The doctor shared a link, then dismissed him.

Ye Yumeng left.

Seeing him come out holding a handful of candy, Gan Xiaoyang said, “Where’d you get that? I know this brand—it’s really good!”

“The doctor gave it to me.”

Though still confused, Ye Yumeng confirmed it wasn’t anything harmful and didn’t dwell on it.

After sharing some with Gan Xiaoyang, they left for the dormitory. But just as they exited the clinic, Ye Yumeng received the bill.

The consultation cost 260 Yaojin coins. After reimbursement, he still had to pay 52.

Since his salary had already been advanced, the amount was deducted from his personal account.

His already tight finances shrank further.

Ye Yumeng couldn’t help but regret it.

If he had known, he would never have come to the staff clinic. Removing a cast wasn’t something he couldn’t do himself…

But since it was done, he could only pay with tears in his eyes.

Back in the dorm, he opened the link for the mobility device—and realized it wasn’t simple either.

Though employees could apply for free, a deposit of 1,000 Yaojin coins was required.

Ye Yumeng could only say—

Forget it!

Although they were free to move about, it didn’t mean they had nothing to do.

After letting Wugang organize his luggage, Ye Yumeng washed up and sat at his desk, opening his light computer.

Following the training instructions, he activated wearable mode—the device transformed into a pair of glasses.

Putting them on, he closed his eyes.

In the next moment, his consciousness entered a virtual space.

“Welcome to the simulated study room. You may select courses here. In five days, you will take an assessment. Please prepare.”

As the head nurse had said, they could arrange their time freely for these five days.

But looking at the long list of courses, Ye Yumeng knew this would be no easy task—he had to devote himself fully.

No matter what, this was his best chance to close the gap with others. He had to give it everything!

Five days later.

Royal Sanatorium, top floor of the core inpatient building.

“Good evening, Lord Mo Yin,” a robotic caregiver greeted the silver-haired man approaching.

“How is His Majesty today?”

“He experienced loss of consciousness this morning and was unable to connect to the Star Network. After emergency treatment, his condition has stabilized. He is currently resting.”

Mo Yin quickly walked to the ward.

Through the glass, he saw the small beast curled on the bed, its body connected to more than a dozen instruments, its life force incredibly weak.

Every time he saw this, he couldn’t reconcile the dying creature with the emperor.

His remaining hand clenched into a fist, his eyes reddening with guilt and shame.

If he hadn’t lost an arm… if he had been by His Majesty’s side during the final battle with the Zerg… would things have turned out differently?

“Beep—”

Suddenly, a sharp alarm rang out.

Mo Yin watched as the heartbeat monitor flattened into a straight line, his eyes nearly splitting in rage.

“Someone! Get help, now!”
