Chapter 6
When one is immersed in work with full focus, time always passes quickly. Before he knew it, five days had gone by.
Ye Yumeng had practically forgotten to eat and sleep, spending all his time in the virtual study room. If not for Wugang reminding him to eat and rest, he truly wouldn’t have come out at all.
These courses had opened up an entirely new world for him—five days was nowhere near enough.
As for the upcoming assessment, Ye Yumeng no longer overthought it. As long as he did his best, that was enough.
“Master, it’s time to eat.”
When Wugang’s voice sounded, the light computer automatically shut down, pulling him out of the virtual study room.
Looking at the robotic dog squatting beside him and wagging its tail, Ye Yumeng, whose mind was still foggy from studying, took a couple of seconds to react.
“Thank you, Wugang.”
He removed the glasses and rubbed his eyes, then got up and walked to the dining table. The food Wugang had brought back from the cafeteria was already neatly laid out.
“So delicious!”
The Yaojin Empire’s dietary habits were quite similar to those of the Xihe Federation. Although the ingredients differed, the cooking methods were largely the same, so Ye Yumeng found it very familiar.
The dishes weren’t particularly varied, but they were free—and clearly freshly made.
After eating pre-packaged meals for a whole month on the spaceship, everything now tasted amazing to him.
After eating his fill, he collapsed onto the sofa, lazily instructing Wugang to clean up.
It was getting late—he should go shower—but Ye Yumeng didn’t feel like moving at all. He felt like he could lie there forever.
He stared at the ceiling in a daze.
Such peaceful and fulfilling days—back in the cultivation world, he wouldn’t even dare dream of them.
But now that life had settled, he also felt a strange emptiness.
If only Xueqiu were here too…
Xueqiu had been with him since he was six years old.
Ye Yumeng couldn’t help but think—if the original owner could use the spirit-summoning technique to bring him here from the cultivation world… then could he summon Xueqiu as well?
Xueqiu was his contracted beast, the most important companion in his life.
Three years ago, Xueqiu had died in a single strike from a demonic cultivator while protecting him.
Though gravely injured, Ye Yumeng had retrieved its body, but only managed to bury it hastily in a mountain forest before fleeing again.
By the time he escaped the massacre and returned after the demonic sect was repelled, he could no longer find the place where he had buried Xueqiu.
This had always been his regret.
Though three years had passed, what if its soul had not yet dissipated—what if it was still waiting there for him?
Thinking of this, Ye Yumeng made up his mind.
No matter what, he had to try. Just in case.
The thought of Xueqiu waiting alone somewhere made his heart ache.
He jumped up and sat at the desk, then began reviewing the original owner’s memories related to the spirit-summoning technique.
The original owner had gained this ability after a high fever at age ten. It could be used roughly once every seven days.
The summoned spirits were random—he couldn’t easily rely on it to make money, though he had occasionally earned small amounts by fulfilling their final wishes.
Of course, there had also been times when he was mistaken for a thief after taking money, and only avoided prison because of his young age.
After that, he had used the ability much more cautiously.
After reviewing the memories, Ye Yumeng closed his eyes and began to summon.
Perhaps because he had already rehearsed the process in his mind, the technique flowed smoothly.
Xueqiu… Xueqiu…
His adorable little white rabbit…
He recalled Xueqiu’s appearance, calling out to it over and over, hoping it would return to his side.
Suddenly, a realization arose in his heart.
The summoning had succeeded!
Ye Yumeng opened his eyes in delight—but found the desk before him empty.
Had it failed?
Though he had prepared himself, disappointment still crept in.
But just then, something caught the corner of his eye.
He turned his head—
A figure had appeared beside him at some unknown time.
It was a strikingly handsome man, with long, light golden curls cascading down his back. His green eyes were like gemstones fallen into ice and snow—cold, yet captivating.
It was the first time Ye Yumeng had seen such a beautiful man.
But his gaze didn’t linger on the man’s face for long.
Because—
Lowering his eyes, he saw the man’s completely bare body.
“Y-you… who are you? Why are you not wearing clothes in my room?!”
In the boundless darkness, Lu Nanzhou felt himself falling.
Countless hands stretched out from the abyss, trying to drag him into hell.
He struggled, resisted—but his body felt unbearably heavy, and he could only continue falling… falling… his consciousness fading…
Until he faintly heard a voice.
Someone seemed to be calling…
With great effort, Lu Nanzhou looked toward the source of the sound—
And then he opened his eyes, finding himself in an unfamiliar room.
Before he could process anything, a startled cry rang out.
Looking down, he saw the frightened young man leaning back in panic, the chair beneath him tipping over.
Just as he was about to fall, Lu Nanzhou instinctively reached out—but his hand passed straight through the man’s body.
He froze.
Then he focused on the chair.
Just before it hit the ground, both the chair and Ye Yumeng froze mid-air, then slowly returned upright.
Holding his head, Ye Yumeng stared at the golden-haired naked man before him.
Due to his seated position, his gaze once again landed awkwardly…
Lu Nanzhou noticed as well. His brows furrowed, and with a glance at himself, a robe materialized over his body.
He looked back at Ye Yumeng.
The young man, delicate and refined, had flushed cheeks and wide eyes—clearly startled.
“Who are you?” Lu Nanzhou narrowed his eyes.
Ye Yumeng finally reacted. Realizing something, he reached out to touch him.
Lu Nanzhou frowned and tried to grab his wrist—but caught nothing. Ye Yumeng’s hand passed through him as well.
“Oh, you’re a ghost?”
He had really summoned a spirit!
Ye Yumeng stood up, circling him curiously.
Lu Nanzhou frowned. “Ghost?”
“Yes. You’ve died. When a soul doesn’t dissipate, it becomes a ghost.”
“And somehow, you got summoned here by me.”
Though he had intended to summon Xueqiu, perhaps due to inexperience, he had summoned an unrelated spirit instead.
“Oh right, did you stop the chair just now? Thanks!”
Lu Nanzhou was stunned.
He… was dead?
He looked at his hands.
The pain and weakness that had clouded his mind were indeed gone…
But what was this?
In an instant, anger and unwillingness surged within him.
How could he just die like this?
As his emotions surged, a violent, destructive energy began to gather around him.
“You’re a patient from the Medical Planet, right?”
Ye Yumeng’s clear voice cut through his thoughts.
The calm aura around the young man seemed to pull him back from the brink.
Unaware of the danger, Ye Yumeng continued, “When you were being treated… were you not wearing clothes?”
Lu Nanzhou nodded stiffly.
His body had been severely burned—there had been no way to wear clothes.
“Do you know how long you’ve been dead?”
“…Probably… not long.”
Though he hadn’t felt his death, this weightless state was unlike anything he had experienced.
So he really was dead.
But then—why could he still use his mental power?
He could feel it awakening again within his spirit…
Powerful, yet fleeting—like a final blaze burning away his life.
Looking at the young man before him, Lu Nanzhou observed the surroundings.
This seemed to be staff housing. Judging by the identification on the table, the young man was likely a caregiver.
Ye Yumeng noticed his poor mood—it was only natural. Who would be happy after dying?
“Everyone must die eventually. Since it’s already happened… don’t be too sad.”
Lu Nanzhou looked at him in silence, then finally asked, “Why can you see me?”
“It’s a special ability of mine.”
Since the man was already dead and would soon dissipate, Ye Yumeng saw no need to hide it.
“In fact, I summoned you.”
Lu Nanzhou wasn’t surprised.
Ghosts weren’t visible to ordinary people.
And though this young caregiver had been startled at first, he had quickly calmed down.
Summoning spirits… interesting.
“What do you want?” Lu Nanzhou asked.
“Nothing. Just wanted to try it out,” Ye Yumeng said honestly.
Though technically, it had been a failure…
According to the original owner’s memories, summoned spirits usually lasted no more than a day.
After thinking for a moment, Ye Yumeng asked, “You’ll probably dissipate soon. Do you have any last wishes? If it’s not too difficult, I might be able to help.”
Lu Nanzhou didn’t believe him.
“You’ll dissipate soon?”
“Mm.”
So young… so handsome… and yet already dead.
Feeling a bit sympathetic, Ye Yumeng added, “When you figure out your wish, tell me.”
Since there was nothing more he could do, he let Lu Nanzhou process things on his own.
Ignoring him for now, Ye Yumeng gathered his clothes and walked into the bathroom under the man’s watchful gaze.
While undressing, he paused to look at himself in the mirror, then shook his head and stepped into the shower.
After drying his hair, he came out to see the tall figure standing by the window, gazing into the night.
His long golden hair flowed down to his waist, shimmering softly in the dim light.
In sunlight, it must be even more beautiful…
Looking at this “gorgeous male ghost,” and thinking he would soon disappear, Ye Yumeng felt a trace of regret.
Almost unconsciously, he walked over.
“Do you want to go outside and take a look?” he asked softly.
