The Interdimensional Reseller – CH187

Chapter 187

Illya stood on the rooftop terrace of the villa, gazing up at the sky in deep thought.

Chu Feng walked up beside her and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I feel like something’s about to happen,” Illya said.

“Maybe something is about to happen,” Chu Feng replied seriously.

“You feel it too?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Kind of.”

Perhaps as his strength increased, his intuition also became sharper. Lately, his gut feelings had been surprisingly accurate.

“Come to think of it, it was pretty cold a few days ago, but now it’s gotten abnormally warm all of a sudden.”

Although warmer weather might be nice, it was winter—and the temperature had jumped significantly.

There were also more animals appearing in the wild recently. Many people suspected mutation, but Chu Feng had a gut feeling that not all of them were mutated. Some might have emerged from somewhere… special.

“The moon… it looks like it’s changing color,” Illya said.

Chu Feng looked up. Many ancient people loved moon gazing, but nowadays, even in small cities, the bright lights and phone screens kept people distracted—few paid attention to the sky.

“It looks like it’s turning red,” Chu Feng said. The moon seemed strangely mysterious.

The red moon phenomenon had caught a lot of attention online. Night owls were already discussing it on social media.

“The red moon… the whole moon’s turning red. That’s creepy as hell.”
“Mayan prophecy—it’s starting! The red moon signals the beginning of the apocalypse!”
“The rise of ability-users must be linked to the end times.”
“If the apocalypse is coming, maybe I won’t have to go to cram school anymore.”
“We’ve heard doomsday theories for years. Has it ever come true? Stop dreaming—you still have to go to cram school.”
“If I could awaken an ability, I’d never have to study again.”
“Ability users can land high-paying jobs just like that. Even if average salaries aren’t as high as before, making hundreds of thousands a year is easy. It’s way better than working your butt off to get into a big company only to become a corporate drone.”

“The chances of awakening a superpower are so low! It’s even harder than getting into a top university like 985 or 211. Maybe the red moon means a mass awakening of superpowers. If that’s the case… I wonder if I’ll get mine too.”

“That fat shut-in guy in our building actually awakened powers! He does nothing but surf the web and play games all day, and even he awakened powers. Life is so unfair.”

Chu Feng scrolled through online comments and found that most people seemed rather optimistic. Even though the moon had turned red, not many believed the apocalypse was coming.

A few years ago, when doomsday theories were first trending, people would rush to the supermarket and panic-buy supplies. But after several false alarms, people had become much more resilient.

The moon had turned a blood-red color—so red it looked like blood—giving people chills just looking at it.

Chu Feng sighed. In the past, doomsday theories were always vague rumors, but this time… the end of the world might really be coming.

A few hours later, the sun rose and the moon set. A new day began.

Online, many new posts appeared about the red moon, with plenty of speculation in the comments:

“Can someone explain scientifically how the red moon formed?”

“It must be some kind of refraction phenomenon—maybe light from another celestial body reflecting off the moon.”

“It’s actually caused by a newly awakened superpowered individual casting an illusion!”

“New day. No apocalypse. Get up, eat breakfast, clock in at work.”

“New day, time to get to cram school.”

“Even if it’s not the end of the world, that red moon is still super creepy. Better head to the supermarket and stock up on supplies.”

Capital.

Shen Yutong and the others were discussing their next moves, their expressions grave.

There had been a series of strange incidents across the country. Many animals were awakening powers, and the death toll was rising.

The public mood was growing restless, and the military was under tremendous pressure.

During the meeting, several people brought up the red moon.

When it had appeared the night before, the military had panicked. But since nothing happened overnight, they had relaxed a bit. Still, Shen Yuxing couldn’t shake the feeling that the red moon was an omen—like the calm before a storm.

Suddenly, an alarm blared, and everyone in the room became tense.

“What’s going on now?”

“That’s the highest-level alarm!”

The Ability Bureau had different alarm levels for different emergencies. A top-level alarm meant something very serious had occurred.

Shen Yutong read through the incoming report and said, “The monitoring station has detected a sudden surge in unknown D molecules.”

“D molecules becoming more active—what does that mean?”

Shen Yuxing took a deep breath. “It’s not yet clear.”

However, the emergence of powered individuals had previously been linked to these D molecules. If their numbers were spiking now, could it mean more people were about to awaken?

“Miss Shen, we just received a new report from the Seismological Bureau.”

Shen Yuxing frowned. “What did they detect?”

A staff member replied, “They predict there will be earthquakes in nineteen regions across the country—possibly major ones.”

Shen Yutong was horrified. “How can that be?”

Even one major earthquake in a year was a huge disaster. If nineteen happened in succession, what would happen to the world?

Shen Yuxing’s temples throbbed; her whole head felt like it was spinning.

“Superpowers are awakening one after another. Maybe earthquakes aren’t so surprising after all.” Shen Yuxing suddenly thought of the red moon. She had been worried all night for nothing—but now, was it finally happening?

She took a deep breath. “When are the earthquakes expected to happen?”

“The monitoring station estimates… about one hour from now.”

Shen Yuxing frowned. “That soon? There’s no time to evacuate!”

“It’s probably too late. All we can do is issue a warning.”

The person receiving the report asked, horrified, “Is it possible one of the earthquakes will hit Capital?”

Shen Yuxing gritted her teeth. “Capital? But there are so many people here!”

With wild plants and animals mutating, many believed the cities were safer and had flocked into them. And now…

“Exactly. That’s why we’re unsure whether to release the monitoring report.”

Capital was densely populated. If word got out about an impending earthquake, people would all try to flee at once. Traffic would instantly collapse. And even if people wanted to evacuate, there were no prepared shelters.

At the Seismological Bureau, there was heated debate over whether to publish the earthquake warning. After thirty minutes of arguing, they finally decided to go public with the news.

Chu Feng had stayed up watching the red moon all night and woke up late the next day. Lin Zhihao came out looking grim.

“Brother Feng, you’re finally awake. The news just released an earthquake warning.”

“Earthquake? Where?”

“The Seismological Bureau said there will be earthquakes in nineteen locations,” Lin Zhihao replied.

Chu Feng: “…” Nineteen?! Are earthquakes being handed out wholesale now?

“Are we in one of the affected zones?”

Illya shook his head. “Apparently not.”

After the news broadcast, many people thought the government had gone crazy.

Some online users accused the Seismological Bureau of being hacked—how could they post something so terrifying?

Many people went online to verify the news, while others just started raging.

Though many were upset, most people believed the report and began emergency evacuation preparations.

Earthquakes are one of those things—it’s better to believe they might happen than to assume they won’t. “Our area isn’t in an earthquake zone, so there’s nothing to worry about,” Chu Feng said.

Lin Zhihao hesitated for a moment and said, “We’re not in an earthquake zone, but it seems there’s going to be an earthquake in the capital.”

“Did the Seismological Bureau say what magnitude it would be?” Chu Feng asked.

Lin Zhihao shook his head. “They didn’t say.”

Not long after the bureau released the earthquake warning, the earthquake struck as predicted.

“There really was an earthquake,” Illya said, looking at her phone.

The internet was flooded with news about the earthquake.

The Seismological Bureau’s warning was met with both skepticism and belief, but no one expected the earthquake to turn out like this. “A user online said a mountain emerged.”

Chu Feng saw pictures shared by netizens—during the quake, the ground split open and a mountain rose from it, as if it had suddenly grown there.

In Shanxi’s Lianhua Village, the earthquake split the entire village in two, and a mountain suddenly appeared in the middle. Two neighboring households that were once less than a hundred meters apart were now separated by several kilometers.

Illya looked at Chu Feng. “Why did this mountain suddenly grow? Is there any scientific explanation?”

Chu Feng: “……” There’s probably some scientific basis… but with his current knowledge, he couldn’t understand it yet.

“These mountains don’t seem dead. There’s life on them,” Illya said.

Chu Feng nodded. “Yes, and quite a lot of it. It’s very strange.”

Where were these things living before? Underground? That doesn’t seem right.

In novels, they often mention hidden paradises in the world. Maybe these places were shaken into the open by the earthquakes.

“Quakes seem to be happening all over the world, not just in our country,” Lin Zhihao said.

The internet was covered with shocking photos of the quakes.

Illya checked again. “The capital really did experience an earthquake.”

“A quake in the capital… I’m afraid a lot of people might have died,” Illya said with a nod. “Seems like it.”

She saw many collapsed buildings, with people buried in the rubble.

Chu Feng shook his head. “The world’s about to descend into chaos.”

“Although the quake brought disaster, it might also bring many resources. People have already found rare herbs on new mountains, and some have even discovered Witch Stones—currently in high demand,” Lin Zhihao said.

Chu Feng nodded. “Really?”

The Earth had almost been fully developed already. Maybe this earthquake would bring significant changes. Chu Feng suddenly remembered the white snake he encountered in the mountains. When he searched, he found that White Snake Mountain had also experienced a quake—and it had expanded more than tenfold.

Chu Feng picked up the phone and called Zhuang Feixue, but couldn’t get through.

Illya glanced at him. “What’s wrong?”

Chu Feng frowned. “Couldn’t get through.”

Illya blinked. “Maybe it’s bad signal. A lot of cell towers must’ve been affected.”

Chu Feng narrowed his eyes. “Probably.”

But he frowned again. “Hope nothing happened…”

The Zhuang family is based in the capital and has some influence. If there was an earthquake coming, they should have gotten word ahead of time, right?

Illya looked at him. “Worried about Feixue and her family?”

Chu Feng nodded. “A little.”

Illya said, “Then why not go check on them directly?”

Chu Feng frowned. “Manning isn’t here, and we don’t know their exact location. I might have to pick up Manning first.”

Illya pulled out her phone. “No need. Last time I saw my sister, I secretly stuck a tracker inside her necklace. We can pinpoint her location.”

Chu Feng asked curiously, “A tracker? Does it actually work?”

Illya shook her head. “Not sure. Hughes made it based on local tracking devices.”

Chu Feng blinked and thought: He didn’t doubt Hughes’ ability, but how long has he even been here? Can something he made so quickly actually work?

Chu Feng nodded. “Alright then, let’s go find her. If all else fails, I’ll go to the other world and bring Manning back.”
