The moment the little zombie Cen Miao opened his eyes, the rich aroma of meat spread through his nose.
!?(?_?)?
Awooo! It… it smelled so good!!!
Looking at the fork in his hand, Cen Miao tentatively stabbed it into the meat on his plate.
Success!
He remembered his caretaker daddy eating meat this way!
As expected of the smartest little zombie in the entire base! Hehe!
Cen Miao opened his mouth and bit off a huge piece of meat, his cheeks puffing out as he eagerly chewed.
The memories of the body’s original owner flooded into his mind. Somehow, his soul had entered the body of a human who had died suddenly from overwork.
“Marry me. Afterward, we’ll only maintain a nominal relationship,” Qin Zelin said, his temple twitching as he watched Cen Miao spear the entire steak with his fork. “We’ll divorce after one year, and I’ll compensate you financially.”
Cen Miao, completely immersed in human cuisine, heard: %…#@/….&…..§*&
He had no idea what the human across from him was saying. Munch, munch, munch. But his caretaker daddy had told him that whenever he encountered something he didn’t understand, he should nod first. That was the safest disguise!
His cheeks bulging, Cen Miao obediently nodded. Then he lowered his head, bit off another huge mouthful of meat, and continued munching away.
Awooo, the meat smelled so good!
Ever since the base had been destroyed and his caretaker daddy had died, he hadn’t eaten any food at all!
Qin Zelin, who had assumed it would take some effort to persuade him: “…”
He recalled the description of Cen Miao in Assistant Fang’s investigation report.
Cen Miao had been adopted by the Cen family when he was only a few months old. Not long afterward, however, Mrs. Cen became pregnant.
They had originally planned to send Cen Miao away, but Old Master Cen couldn’t bear to part with him, so they kept him.
While the old man was still alive, he had probably worried that no one would look after Cen Miao in the future, so he left him a sum of money.
After Qin Zelin’s grandfather learned about the situation, he secretly arranged an engagement between the two of them to put Old Master Cen’s mind at ease, promising that the Qin family would take care of Cen Miao.
But the person before him was far too easy to bully. As soon as the old man passed away, the money went straight into the Cen family’s pockets, and Cen Miao was thrown out.
This marriage partner was even more… vacant than Qin Zelin had imagined.
Still, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. At least when they divorced in the future, Cen Miao probably wouldn’t cling to him, which would save him a great deal of trouble.
Qin Zelin had never been interested in troublesome things like romance. If his grandfather hadn’t fallen seriously ill and insisted on fulfilling his promise to Old Master Cen by forcing him to marry, Qin Zelin wouldn’t have needed to get married at all.
He raised his eyes and watched Cen Miao eat with such urgency, his brows unconsciously drawing together.
Did he… usually not even get enough to eat?
Before long, the person across from him finished the entire steak and turned an expectant gaze toward him.
Qin Zelin: “…”
“I haven’t touched this one,” Qin Zelin said in a deep voice, unable to endure the other man’s pitiful stare. “You can eat it too, as long as you don’t mind.”
Cen Miao nodded vigorously, his eyes brimming with gratitude. He decided that this human was just like his caretaker daddy.
They were both good people!
Remembering his caretaker daddy’s reminder to be polite, Cen Miao tilted his head and gave Qin Zelin a friendly smile.
His round eyes curved slightly. His lips were pink, his teeth pearly white, and a pair of tiny dimples appeared beside his mouth when he smiled, making people instinctively want to reach out and poke them.
Caught off guard by the sudden smile, Qin Zelin froze. His slender fingers twitched. He had only pushed the plate forward slightly when a hand reached over…
And speared the entire steak.
“…”
What was with that look just now?
Could he have fallen for him?
A few minutes later—
“Take a look at this agreement.” Once Cen Miao finished eating, Qin Zelin turned to the page detailing the exact compensation amount and handed him the document. “If there aren’t any problems, sign your name.”
“!!!”
Cen Miao nervously accepted the document.
The good news was that this brain recognized the words.
The bad news was that it only recognized them. He didn’t understand what they meant.
Cen Miao stared at the document and frowned.
He didn’t want to read it!
Seeing him frown, Qin Zelin added, “This agreement is highly favorable to you. Not only will you be exempt from fulfilling any marital obligations, but after the divorce, you’ll also receive enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life. If you’re dissatisfied with the amount, you can add whatever figure you want.”
“However, I hope you won’t publicly reveal at school that you’re legally my spouse. First, it’s for your own safety. Second, it will prevent the marriage from affecting your life after our divorce.”
&%#@…&…
He was babbling away. Cen Miao had no idea what he was saying.
“Name… sign… where?” Cen Miao asked tentatively.
It was his first time trying to speak, so he wasn’t very skilled at it. The sentence came out haltingly.
But to Qin Zelin’s ears, it sounded like a soft, breathy murmur, carrying a hint of clingy coquettishness.
“…”
“Don’t act cute,” the man said in a deep voice.
Cen Miao: -?- ???
“What… is… acting cute?”
“Sign your name on the last page.” Qin Zelin cleared his throat and handed him a pen, his expression slightly unnatural. He did not answer Cen Miao’s question.
Cen Miao took the pen. After turning to the last page, he followed the memories in his mind and carefully wrote his name, stroke by stroke.
“What… is acting cute?” Cen Miao asked again, filled with curiosity about human speech.
Qin Zelin: “…”
“If you’re full, let’s go. I have a meeting at the company later.”
“Oh.”
Cen Miao obediently stood and followed behind Qin Zelin.
Qin Zelin felt as though he had suddenly acquired a tail. When he walked faster, Cen Miao sped up. When he slowed down, Cen Miao slowed down too.
Even after they reached the car, the person behind him was still following. Qin Zelin guessed that Cen Miao’s current living situation was probably terrible, so he wanted to move out as soon as possible.
Qin Zelin didn’t particularly care. Getting their marriage certificate sooner wasn’t a bad idea. At least then his grandfather would stop bombarding him with phone calls.
“Do you want to register the marriage today,” Qin Zelin asked, turning around and lowering his head to look at Cen Miao, who only reached his shoulder, “and then move out?”
Cen Miao tilted his head, looking blank. “Register?”
“Did you bring your identification?” Qin Zelin asked again.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Cen Miao removed the backpack from his shoulders. He fumbled with the buckles on both sides, then opened the zipper and dumped everything inside onto the ground beside Qin Zelin’s feet.
Afterward, he stared at Qin Zelin with a pair of large, innocent eyes.
“…”
Qin Zelin sighed. Bending down, he picked Cen Miao’s identification card off the ground and frowned.
“In the future, you don’t need to dump everything out when you’re looking for something.”
“Oh.” Cen Miao, who was working hard to disguise himself as a human, obediently nodded. Then he picked up the things on the ground one by one and slowly stuffed them back into his backpack.
Watching Cen Miao’s sluggish movements, Qin Zelin thought he resembled some kind of little robotic monster.
One whose system hadn’t been updated and would occasionally freeze while running.
Only after Cen Miao had picked everything up did Qin Zelin open the car door.
“Get in.”
Inside the car, as Qin Zelin closed the door, Cen Miao lightly sniffed and caught a pleasant scent.
It smelled so good…
Ten thousand times better than those zombies!
After sitting down, Qin Zelin took his phone out of his suit pocket, intending to notify Assistant Fang that the meeting would be postponed.
Before he could finish typing a single sentence, a warm sensation suddenly brushed against his neck.
“???”
The driver glanced into the rearview mirror.
“!!!”
Holy mother of ducks!
The bodyguard in the passenger seat:
“!!!”
Hiss…
