Chapter 41

Invest in shares?

Lin An’an had never really thought about that before, but now that he considered it, it didn’t seem impossible. Still, he wasn’t very good at this kind of thing, so he turned a pleading gaze toward the all-powerful Brother Wolf.

Feng Wu turned his head and looked at Si Youlin beside him instead. Si Youlin smiled and took the matter onto himself.

Feng Wu explained to the little cub, “Old Four dealt with this sort of thing during missions before. He’s familiar with it.”

At once, the little cub shot Brother Snake an approving look that clearly said you’re really something.

Si Youlin and Shang Youyuan exchanged contact information, and then the whole group headed home in grand procession once again.

On the way out, they ran into the person next door again. The man had just opened his door and was poking his head out to look around, only to meet eyes with Xiong Yingjun by unfortunate chance.

Xiong Yingjun raised a hand in a friendly greeting. “Yo! Again—” nice to see you!

The other person turned deathly pale, sucked in a sharp breath, and slammed the door shut with a bang. The shrill zila sound rang out once more.

Lin An’an: “…Ah-pu.”

Xiong Yingjun: “……”

Big Bear felt wronged.

But Big Bear said nothing.

While the wilderness farm was under construction, Lin An’an dragged Feng Wu out to have a look around the area nearby.

First, to confirm the surrounding safety once more. Second, to get out and relax a bit.

Not to mention himself, who had been cooped up in the pharmacy room making medicine every day, even Feng Wu had been shut up in the research room next door, staring at that broken rock—ah no, not a broken rock, staring at the “Gata” metal block Zhuang Yi had given him, spending all day having staring contests with a stone.

The last few times they had gone out, it had always been either around dusk or already after dark. This was the first time they had actually come to see the full appearance of the farm in broad daylight.

The construction was going quickly. In just a few short days, it was already mostly complete.

The team Feng Wu had hired was inside the large villa on the farm doing the interior work. Tables, chairs, cabinets, and beds were being moved in one after another, and everything was happening in an extremely orderly way.

There was just a bit too much dust.

Lin An’an couldn’t help sneezing, so Feng Wu led him away from the farm that was still under construction and began wandering around nearby to relax.

There was no one around. Buried in the wolf’s fur, the little cub couldn’t resist anymore and with a puxiu changed back into human form.

Lin An’an lay sprawled across the wolf’s back, clutching tightly around the giant wolf’s neck as he took a deep breath.

—Sure enough, human form was much more comfortable.

[Anywhere you want to go?] Feng Wu asked him.

Lin An’an shook his head, then remembered Feng Wu couldn’t see that, so he spoke aloud instead. “No, let’s just wander around.”

The temperature had dropped sharply recently. If he went out at night, Lin An’an had to burrow himself inside Feng Wu’s clothes just to feel warm enough.

Luckily it was daytime now, and the sun was out, even if the sunlight itself didn’t carry the slightest warmth.

Since they were just out for a relaxing stroll, the giant wolf wasn’t running very fast.

When they reached a certain spot, Lin An’an suddenly let out an “Eh!” “That tree!”

The moment he heard him speak, Feng Wu stopped at once. His wolf eyes swept over and quickly found, not far ahead to the side, a completely bare tree with all its leaves gone.

Not far from the tree, there was also a giant stone that stood out even more awkwardly.

“Brother Wolf, I want to go over and look!”

Actually, before he even said it, the giant wolf had already turned toward the dead tree. Feng Wu thought perhaps this was another strange plant of some sort, maybe something that could be used as medicine.

The giant wolf stopped beside the withered tree. Lin An’an jumped down from his back and reached out to touch the dried trunk.

He sighed emotionally. “So it really is this place.”

Feng Wu changed back into human form. Hearing that, a trace of confusion flickered through his golden eyes. “What place?”

“Brother Wolf, you wouldn’t know.” Lin An’an muttered. “Back when I first came to Sin Star, there was a huge storm one day, and the house I had worked so hard to find got blown away.”

He patted the tree. “Such a long branch—whoosh, and it hooked my brand-new house away. If I hadn’t reacted fast enough and clung here, I’d have been blown off with it.”

A faint smile seeped into Feng Wu’s eyes. “The little box with the bunny print?”

“Not that one, another one. Though that one was a bunny-print box too.” Lin An’an said, “After the rain stopped, I went looking for the house, and it had already been blown into pieces. Later I found another box exactly the same.”

He paused suddenly and laughed. “And that later one—you won it for me by fighting someone, Brother Wolf!”

Feng Wu remembered now.

No wonder, he thought, that back then Lin An’an had seemed so interested in that flashy little box, while not caring very much for the snacks inside it.

So it really had only been the box he wanted.

Although the tree had lost all its leaves, the branches were still sturdy.

Lin An’an circled the tree once, found a good spot, and started climbing. He wanted to sit on one of the branches and look at the scenery from several months ago.

But perhaps human form simply wasn’t as convenient for tree-climbing as his second form was. Lin An’an hugged the trunk and wriggled his way upward for ages, then lowered his head for a look—only to discover he had moved less than ten centimeters.

Lin An’an: “……”

Ah, well…

A pair of large hands suddenly wrapped around his waist. Lin An’an’s hands shook, and he nearly let go of the tree trunk.

Feng Wu’s palms were very warm. The moment they settled on his waist, even without using much force, Lin An’an still found their presence overwhelmingly strong.

Feng Wu’s voice sounded behind him. “Come on.”

Lin An’an: “…Mm.”

His voice was very low, so low that he wasn’t even sure Feng Wu had heard his answer.

His mind stalled for a second, but thanks to Feng Wu’s help, he very quickly gained a great deal of height and successfully climbed onto the branch he had been aiming for.

Feng Wu climbed up after him.

The branch was sturdy enough that it wouldn’t snap even with two people sitting on it, though it still swayed a little.

Lin An’an shifted to the side, trying to leave Feng Wu a bit more room, but he accidentally lost his balance and immediately tilted off to one side.

Feng Wu moved quickly and naturally lifted an arm around the youth’s shoulders, letting him fall against himself instead.

“Careful,” he reminded in a low voice.

Lin An’an let out a breath of relief. One hand pressed against the branch beneath him, while the other instinctively grabbed Feng Wu’s wrist. The sudden little fright had made his fingertips go slightly pale, and only after quite a while did the blood color return.

Perhaps because he was worried Lin An’an wasn’t sitting steadily enough, Feng Wu didn’t let go.

Lin An’an secretly glanced at him from the corner of his eye and saw Feng Wu’s tightly pressed lips and faintly trembling eyelashes.

He withdrew his gaze and pursed his lips as well—then suddenly relaxed. In fact, he even leaned a little more contentedly into Feng Wu’s chest.

He could feel the man behind him stiffen ever so slightly, and Lin An’an’s eyes curved with secret amusement.

Brother Wolf’s solid chest was very reliable.

Hehe.

After lingering in the wilderness for a little while, the two of them set off back into the city.

What Lin An’an didn’t expect was that there were actually two “unexpected visitors” waiting at home.

Both of them were wearing disguise masks. At first Lin An’an didn’t recognize them, until he saw that the taller, bulkier one—whose build was not the slightest bit inferior to Xiong Yingjun’s—had a familiar tattoo on his arm.

[…Octopus Bro and Squid Bro?]

After the initial shock came delight. Lin An’an had always remembered that he owed Octopus Bro his life. Since he hadn’t been able to get in contact with him earlier, he had kept the matter tucked away in his heart and never forgotten it.

Zhang Yifeng arched a brow. “Octopus Bro?”

That form of address sounded… strangely odd.

The little cub’s eyes sparkled. [You saved my life!]

Lin An’an had never told anyone else about this, so when the little cub said that, Feng Wu lowered his gaze toward him in surprise.

What surprised Feng Wu even more was that even Zhang Yifeng himself looked confused and blank, as if he had no memory of such a thing at all.

Lin An’an then vividly and completely recounted the whole story of the danger he’d encountered in the wilderness before.

After hearing it, Zhang Yifeng frowned and thought hard for a moment. It was obvious he genuinely couldn’t remember the matter anymore.

Then he relaxed his brows and smiled. “It was only a small effort. There’s no need to keep such noble conduct in your heart.”

That simply wouldn’t do.

A small effort had saved his little life.

That was what Lin An’an thought, and he couldn’t help looking at Octopus Bro—Zhang Yifeng—again.

Why did he feel that Octopus Bro’s way of speaking sounded a bit odd? Weirdly familiar… a little like Bear Bro after being thoroughly poisoned by all sorts of novels.

Zhang Yifeng soon explained why he had come. This time, they were here to seek cooperation.

[Cooperation in what area?]

Cooperating with star pirates? Could it be that Octopus Bro wanted to recruit Brother Wolf and Brother Bear into a star pirate organization on Sin Star?

The thought made Lin An’an feel slightly embarrassed, but then he heard Zhang Yifeng say, “To be honest, our people recently joined forces to start a Sin Star delivery service.”

Lin An’an froze slightly. Delivery…?

Zhang Yifeng said, “I heard that you’re about to launch online sales for your healing fruits and vegetables.”

There were already delivery services on Sin Star, but for various reasons, most of them were a complete mess. Lin An’an and Feng Wu had spent a long time comparing them and still hadn’t decided who to work with.

Who would have guessed that someone would bring themselves right to their door?

Because of their previous two encounters, Lin An’an still trusted Zhang Yifeng fairly well. But for the sake of the farm’s development, he still cautiously had Si Youlin—who was more familiar with this sort of thing—sit down and talk things over with Zhang Yifeng in more detail.

Of course, during the discussion, the identity Si Youlin used was that of the black-robed mysterious figure.

Zhang Yifeng and Si Youlin spoke in one of the rooms, while Wu Hula, who had come with him, stayed behind in the living room outside.

Ever since Wu Hula had walked in, Xiong Yingjun had been continuously glancing at him, his eyes full of bright, unhidden provocation.

At last he couldn’t hold back anymore and took two steps forward. “If you’re a man, then fight me!”

Wu Hula gave him a look usually reserved for idiots. After a moment, he shook his head. “Not fighting.”

Xiong Yingjun looked shocked. “Then you’re not a man?”

Wu Hula said, “I am. Still not fighting.”

“Why not?” Xiong Yingjun rolled up his sleeves. “You and I are definitely destined to settle who’s stronger sooner or later!”

Lin An’an sat on Feng Wu’s lap holding a cucumber, thoroughly enjoying the show while nibbling it.

He had already heard from Brother Wolf and Brother Snake that there was old bad blood between Xiong Yingjun and Wu Hula. The two of them had fought who-knew-how-many rounds already. Almost every time they met, they would throw down, yet never once had they truly settled who was superior.

Wu Hula said, “Big Bro and I came to cooperate with you, not to fight.”

“What’s that got to do with anything?” Xiong Yingjun frowned fiercely. “Cooperation is cooperation, fighting is fighting. There’s no conflict!”

Wu Hula didn’t want to bother with him. That huge body of his remained sunk into the sofa, unmoving no matter how much Xiong Yingjun tried to provoke him.

He didn’t know whether Xiong Yingjun would get beaten after a fight, but Wu Hula knew that if he actually did fight Xiong Yingjun right now, then once he went home, Big Bro would definitely beat him again too.

Not worth it.

This fight absolutely could not happen.

Lin An’an was having a wonderful time watching the drama, and before long, the two people inside the room came out.

Si Youlin pushed the light screen in front of the little cub and said, “It’s all settled. Take a look at the contract. If there’s no problem, I’ll sign it.”

Zhang Yifeng raised a brow from the side. “Why does a cub have to approve even the signing of a contract?”

The little cub puffed out his chest with a grin. [No choice. Everyone spoils me.]

Feng Wu curled his lips faintly and rubbed the little cub’s soft head with the pad of his thumb.

Naturally, there was nothing wrong with the contract. After reading it carefully, Lin An’an had Si Youlin sign it, and yet another important matter in his heart was happily resolved.

Zhang Yifeng and Wu Hula didn’t stay long. After signing the contract, they left, saying they would head to the wilderness farm to find them in a few days.

Xiong Yingjun couldn’t resist shouting after them, “Next time! We’ll settle it next time!”

That burly, powerful figure clutching the doorframe somehow gave off an inexplicable air of grievance.

The wilderness farm was completed very soon.

This time, when they went there, Feng Wu also brought along the tools to build the defense system. Lin An’an turned on the livestream and watched Brother Wolf work away in utter satisfaction.

[Cubby looks like a little site supervisor hahaha]

[Not “looks like”—he literally is one. [covering mouth and snickering jpg]]

[Baby An: Don’t you dare slack off! This cub is watching! [waving little whip gif]]

[The netizens in this session really are trying to kill me laughing, honk honk honk]

[So is the wilderness farm finally complete? [rubbing hands in anticipation jpg]]

[Does this mean the healing fruits and vegetables are finally about to go on sale on CrimeNet? My little wallet is ready! [so rich jpg]]

The little cub chatted leisurely with the viewers, but his gaze kept drifting toward Feng Wu from time to time.

Feng Wu was still wearing the disguise mask. His silver hair had been tousled slightly by the wind, and his golden eyes were fixed in focused concentration on the tools in his hands. Every now and then he would lift his head to survey the surroundings, seemingly considering where to position the defense system.

Brother Wolf at work looked even more handsome than usual.

Lin An’an popped a little cherry tomato into his mouth and munched it even more happily.

Feng Wu moved fast. In just one afternoon, he finished setting up the entire defense system.

“We can officially start tomorrow,” Feng Wu said, dusting the dirt from his clothes as he came over to Lin An’an’s side.

Lin An’an’s livestream had already ended. He had shifted back into human form, and the reclining chair under him suddenly rocked, only to be steadily caught by Feng Wu.

“Let’s call everyone here for dinner tonight.” Lin An’an pointed at the big villa inside the farm. “A new house needs a bit of liveliness.”

Feng Wu nodded. “I’ll go hunt. We can add some meat for dinner.”

Lin An’an’s eyes lit up at once. “Sounds great!”

No sooner said than done. Lin An’an immediately tagged everyone in the group chat, telling them to hurry over to the wilderness farm.

Xiong Yingjun: Got it! On my way!

Lin Tianqing: Lin An’an, are there enough rooms at the farm? It’ll be too late after dinner, so let’s just stay the night there.

Lin An’an: Plenty plenty plenty! More than enough rooms, just come!

Shang Youyuan: Shishi wants to come too. I’m going to rent a hover car, wait a bit.

Si Youlin: What hover car? Xiong Yingjun, can I entrust Madam Wen to you?

Xiong Yingjun: Absolutely no problem! Bear Bro brand transportation—you deserve it. [bear thumbs-up jpg]

The group chat was full of lively noise. Lin An’an was still chatting happily with everyone when suddenly he heard some movement outside the farm.

…Had Brother Wolf already returned from hunting that fast?

Lin An’an opened the defense system, only to be so startled by a giant magnified face that he leaned backward. Two seconds later, he realized it was Squid Bro’s big face.

Well, Squid Bro in second form, that was.

The gigantic squid backed up two steps, then very politely lifted a tentacle and knocked on the farm gate.

[Is anybody home?]
