Chapter 42

Right beside the giant squid was an enormous octopus.

Lin An’an suddenly remembered that Brother Octopus had said he would come visit the farm sometime soon. He had not expected him to run right into Xiong Yingjun and the others like this.

Thinking back to the last time Wuhu La had left, and how Third Brother Bear had stared after him with obvious reluctance, Lin An’an remotely opened the gate for them in a thoroughly delighted mood—almost impatient, even.

And he had already started looking forward to Third Brother Bear’s arrival.

The road from the farm gate to the farmhouse villa was wide enough, but Zhang Yifeng and Wuhu La still changed back into human form.

Halfway there, the two of them suddenly heard a cheerful little “Yingji!”

Wuhu La glanced around and muttered, puzzled, “Was that my imagination?”

“I heard it too.” Zhang Yifeng looked around as well, then added uncertainly, “Maybe… we heard wrong.”

The little cub right in front of them, so black he blended perfectly into the night: “……”

Too annoyed to let that pass, Lin An’an bounced up and smacked Wuhu La’s knee with a little tentacle.

Only then did Wuhu La lower his head. Squinting, he finally saw the tiny black blob perched on the top of his shoe.

He brightened at once. “Big bro, An Cub’s right here!”

Zhang Yifeng bent down, intending to pick the cub up into his palm the way Feng Wu always did. But the little black ball beat him to it, springing up first and landing with a pah-ji on Zhang Yifeng’s shoulder, using the man’s bending posture to help himself along.

Zhang Yifeng straightened up without minding in the least. “Why are you the only one here? Where’s Feng Wu?”

[Brother Wolf went hunting.] Lin An’an replied. [Everyone’s gathering at the farm for dinner tonight. He said he’d hunt something so we could all have a better meal.]

Wuhu La’s eyes lit up. “Then our timing is perfect.”

Zhang Yifeng, however, frowned lightly. “He left you here alone? With all the monsters and demons outside… I mean, with so many exotic beasts out there, he’s really not worried?”

[The farm has a defense system Brother Wolf built himself.] Lin An’an said, not worried in the least. [Exotic beasts can’t get in.]

Forget exotic beasts—even Feng Wu’s Silver Armor would have a hard time sneaking silently into the farm.

Only then did Zhang Yifeng’s brows relax.

Not long afterward, Xiong Yingjun, Si Youlin, and the others arrived too, and the empty villa turned lively in an instant.

The moment he saw Wuhu La, Xiong Yingjun’s eyes lit up. “Wuhu La! If you’re a man, come fight me!”

Wuhu La: “……”

Zhang Yifeng pinched the bridge of his nose with a headache. “Go fight outside. Don’t wreck someone else’s farm.”

The moment he heard that, Wuhu La looked as though he’d been granted amnesty. He sprang to his feet, his whole expression changing at once. “Let’s go! Wilderness showdown!”

Lin An’an: “……”

So the reason Squid Bro had acted so well-behaved before was only because Brother Octopus wouldn’t allow him to cause trouble…

The two hulking men glared furiously at each other, neither willing to be the first to step through the door. In the end, the two tall, broad-shouldered giants squeezed out together side by side, legs pressed against each other, in a struggle that looked genuinely difficult.

Lin An’an was so startled that the melon in his hand nearly dropped.

Thank goodness the doors in this house were oversized. Otherwise, the frame probably would have been wrecked on the spot.

Si Youlin patted the little cub’s head and said, “Don’t be surprised. This is their normal state when they see each other.”

The only reason they had not clashed last time was because Zhang Yifeng had warned Wuhu La in advance not to stir up trouble.

And fighting definitely counted as stirring up trouble, even if Wuhu La had not been the one to start it.

Lin An’an had no idea where the two of them had run off to fight, but it must have been pretty far away. Two massive beings fighting should have made a huge commotion, yet no one in the villa heard a thing.

In the end, the two of them were dragged back by Feng Wu, who had returned from hunting.

According to Feng Wu, when he found them, the squid’s tentacles had already been tied into three butterfly knots, and Xiong Yingjun had been sprayed from head to toe with squid ink. Neither of them was willing to admit defeat.

The battle sounded incredibly fierce. Just hearing Feng Wu describe it made Lin An’an’s eyes shine, and he silently lamented not having seen it with his own eyes.

“What a pity there still wasn’t a winner.” Xiong Yingjun sighed.

Wuhu La also sounded a little unsatisfied. “We fight again next time!”

The moment he said that, Zhang Yifeng punched him on the head, and he instantly turned as obedient as a chicken, sitting back down on the sofa without another word.

Xiong Yingjun burst out laughing at the sight, then added, “But I think we accidentally cracked the ground over there.”

The little cub widened his eyes. “Yingji?”

Holy crap! They actually cracked the ground!

As expected of Bear Bro and Squid Bro—way too awesome!

Wuhu La, however, said, “It didn’t feel like we cracked it. Felt more like it was already about to split, and we just shook it open.”

Xiong Yingjun thought back for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah, that’s true. We didn’t use that much force with that hit. It shouldn’t have opened such a deep crack.”

Lin An’an asked, [How far is it from the farm?]

“Not too far,” Feng Wu replied. “About five kilometers.”

[Then let’s go look tomorrow.]

Lin An’an was a little worried it might be some geological issue. If it was serious enough, the newly built farm might end up affected too.

Feng Wu nodded, then called Si Youlin, Gu Yubai, and Shi Xiaoxing—those who knew how to cook—and took them all into the kitchen.

Shang Youyuan wanted to go along as well, but He Yinghong stopped him. “Stay and play a game of chess with me. They can handle the cooking.”

Wen Shi sat in her wheelchair by the coffee table, smiling as she looked at him. The chessboard had already been set out.

Bai Yue had recently become obsessed with an animated series called Kitty Adventures and was sprawled on the sofa watching it with absolute focus.

Bai Yang leaned against his younger sister, with a drowsy little black blob sprawled across him as well. Absorbing cat and cub together, he felt as though he had reached the absolute peak of feline life.

When Zhang Yifeng and Wuhu La came to visit the farm, they had brought quite a few gifts with them, including a barrel of fruit wine they had treasured for a long time.

Lin An’an wanted some so badly that he held up his empty cup in hopes of getting a serving too, only to be firmly refused by Zhang Yifeng.

“No. Cubs can’t drink,” Zhang Yifeng said. “This is alcohol, not juice. Little cubs should drink milk.”

Then he filled Lin An’an’s cup to the brim with milk.

Lin An’an: “……”

He was an adult!

But Brother Octopus and Brother Squid still didn’t know that…

Clutching the full cup of milk, the little cub downed it in one resentful gulp, though his gaze quietly drifted toward the wine glass by Brother Wolf’s hand.

He stole a glance at Feng Wu, then at Zhang Yifeng, who was whispering something to Wuhu La, and quietly edged closer. Successfully, he wrapped himself around Feng Wu’s wine glass.

Who knew that Zhang Yifeng would suddenly say, “An Cub, no sneaking some!”

The sudden voice startled Lin An’an. He had only meant to steal a tiny sip, but being startled made him accidentally swallow a great mouthful instead.

Zhang Yifeng whisked the glass away, and Feng Wu carried Lin An’an back to his original spot.

The little cub let out a fruit-wine-scented hiccup.

To be fair, the fruit wine Zhang Yifeng had treasured for years really did taste wonderful. The fruit aroma was rich and full, while the alcohol note was faint but exactly the right finishing touch.

Lin An’an smacked his lips. Feng Wu glanced at the remaining wine in the glass and frowned faintly, a little worried.

It turned out his worry was justified.

Not long after sneaking that mouthful of fruit wine, Lin An’an began to feel dizzy. He flopped onto the dining table like a soft little cub pancake, his entire body practically screaming the words I’m drunk.

Feng Wu scooped him up, intending to carry him to a room to rest.

The tipsy little cub was warm all over. Rolling once in Feng Wu’s palm, he began muttering a string of drunken nonsense in a language no one else could understand. “Ying-ying-ying ji-ji ah-pu-pu…”

Feng Wu found it a little amusing and tucked the little cub beneath the blanket.

Someone knocked on the room door. Si Youlin entered carrying a bowl of hangover soup and said with a smile, “I figured someone would probably need this tonight, so I made it in advance.”

But he had never imagined that the first one to drink the hangover soup would actually be Lin An’an.

Si Youlin set the bowl down and left. Feng Wu called softly, “An Cub?”

Lin An’an still had a little awareness left. Hearing someone call him, he wriggled with great effort and tried his best to inch toward the bowl of soup.

Feng Wu scooped up a spoonful and tasted it. The soup was warm now, no longer hot.

Before he could lower the spoon from his lips, he suddenly heard a tiny pah-ji, followed by the little cub’s voice: “Ying… glug glug… ji—”

Feng Wu looked down and saw the oversized soup bowl. The little black cub was flailing his tentacles wildly inside, looking utterly bewildered and terrified as he struggled around.

Laughing despite himself, Feng Wu fished the little cub back out, thinking how fortunate it was that the soup was no longer hot.

…Who in the world got so drunk they practically soaked themselves in hangover soup?

While Sin Star’s wilderness farm was full of lively warmth and cheer, a certain room in Emil Palace on the Capital Star remained brightly lit all through the night.

Xia Yuanhan toyed with the terminal in his hand and suddenly lifted a brow. “You came at just the right time.”

A projected figure appeared in the room and asked, “Right time for what?”

“The time is about right,” Xia Yuanhan said. His tone was calm, but excitement lurked underneath. “We’ve given them long enough. It’s time to make our move.”

The projected figure let out a soft laugh. “I came for this exact matter too. The ground fissure got split open ahead of schedule. Even if you wanted to drag this out longer, you no longer can.”

Xia Yuanhan gave a cold snort. “Then all the better.”

He abruptly opened the light screen on his terminal, and the words reflected in his eyes.

“Tomorrow just so happens to be Sin Star’s official monthly livestream.” Xia Yuanhan curled his lips, his tone chilling. “I want everyone in the whole galaxy to witness that scene.”

When Lin An’an woke up, broad daylight had already filled the room.

He rolled around once on the pillow and felt his head still somewhat heavy. Everything that happened after that mouthful of fruit wine last night seemed to have vanished from his memory.

…Surely he had not blacked out after just one mouthful of fruit wine, had he?

The little cub briefly doubted his entire life, but in the end he still climbed out from under the covers.

Si Youlin had already made breakfast. The air was filled with the aroma of tomato egg soup.

Zhang Yifeng and Wuhu La had already finished eating. They were only waiting for Lin An’an to wake up so they could say goodbye before leaving.

They still had other matters to attend to, so Lin An’an did not try to keep them. He walked them to the farm gate and watched them leave.

He did not know whether the fruit wine had been brewed by Zhang Yifeng himself or bought long ago, but even if it had made him black out, that did not change the fact that it had tasted incredible.

Lin An’an silently decided that later on, he should send more fruit to Brother Octopus and ask him to brew more fruit wine.

Then the little cub climbed back onto the dining table.

Feng Wu had already ladled him a bowl of tomato soup. Knowing that he couldn’t eat things that were too hot, Feng Wu had already cooled it for him. It was now pleasantly warm to drink—comfortable and not the least bit scalding.

Brother Wolf was thoughtful as ever today too!

Lin An’an happily praised him in his heart. Yet the spoon in his little tentacle suddenly shook, and the soup splashed right back into the bowl. “Yingji?”

He looked up blankly. Who was shaking the table?

In the next instant, the shaking intensified drastically. Lin An’an cried out and tried to steady the soup bowl with his little tentacles, but failed, toppling bodily into it.

Feng Wu reacted at lightning speed and fished him right back out. Even so, it was still a beat too late. The little black cub now had several strands of egg flower clinging to him, making him look a complete mess.

…Lightning strikes twice!

The violent shaking continued for nearly a full minute before finally subsiding.

Lin An’an sat there dumbly on the dining table while Feng Wu carefully wiped every inch of him down with cleansing wipes.

Such intense shaking… could it have been an earthquake?

Lin An’an immediately thought of the deep ground crack Bear Bro and Squid Bro had mentioned last night.

Could it have been that?

Before he could think further, Feng Wu—who had been helping wipe the tomato soup off him—suddenly shuddered all over and let out a low, pained grunt. With his other hand, he crushed the backrest of the chair barehanded.

At the very same moment, a violent current of rampaging spiritual force burst from within Feng Wu.

Lin An’an’s pupils shrank.

Brother Wolf was… having a spiritual riot?
