Chapter 32: These Dumbass Clients Are Here to Poach His Target!
Wife: [I’m here.]
“!!!”
The moment he saw this new message, Jian Tang’s eyes instantly lit up with astonishing brilliance. It was as if a high-intensity beauty filter had been slapped onto him; he looked completely revitalized, radiant, and bursting with energy.
Jian Tang: [Wife wife wife! Wife, you’re finally here!! \(^o^)/~]
Wife: [Sorry, I was caught up with something just now and wasn’t looking at my phone.]
Ohhh, so that’s why!
He knew it. How could his wife possibly give him the cold shoulder on purpose? As expected, there was a perfectly valid reason.
Wife: [Who did you say disliked you just now? Your client?]
Jian Tang: [No, no, it was a really weird stranger.]
Jian Tang: [I don’t even know what happened. He suddenly seemed to have a breakdown or went crazy or something, jumped up, yelled at me, and then turned around and vanished.]
Jian Tang: [But he’s back now and sitting right across from me… Uh, do you think he has a problem with me, or is he mentally unstable? S-Should I go hide somewhere? I’m worried he’ll suddenly jump up and go crazy again. He really startled me earlier =.=]
Wife: […………]
Wife: [No need to worry. He’s normal.]
Jian Tang: [? Wife, how do you know?]
Wife: […………]
Wife: [I’ve done something similar before. He probably just remembered an urgent matter, ran off to take care of it, and came back when he was finished.]
Huh?
Jian Tang tried to picture it, but he found it truly impossible to imagine his steady, aloof wife suddenly jumping up and tearing out the door in a frantic rush…
What kind of bizarre spectacle would that even be?
Jian Tang: [Alright… Maybe I’m overthinking it.]
Now that the topic of gossiping about a stranger behind his back was over—and he didn’t have to worry about the bystander overhearing anymore—Jian Tang happily lifted his phone and sent a voice message to his wife.
“Wife, wife, what are you doing right now?”
Wife: [Messaging you.]
“Hehe.” Jian Tang felt incredibly sweet inside. “Wife, say something to me. I want to hear your voice.”
Wife: [Sorry, it’s not very convenient to speak right now.]
“Oh…” Jian Tang was a little disappointed, but he quickly came up with an alternative. “Then how about I make a video call to you? You don’t have to talk, I just want to look at you.”
He had thoroughly researched his new phone’s communication features earlier and discovered that besides sending voice messages, he could also make video calls. It was insanely convenient!
This time, the other side replied within seconds as well.
Wife: [Sorry, it’s not very convenient to video call right now either.]
Jian Tang blinked. “Why is it inconvenient? Where are you right now?” Could it be that his partner wasn’t at home?
Wife: [Sorry, it’s not very convenient to tell you right now.]
Jian Tang: “…”
Refusing to speak, refusing to video call, and refusing to reveal his current location… This was… way too suspicious.
Jian Tang knitted his brows. He recalled reading about similar scenarios online when humans discussed relationships. This seemed to be called—
“Wife,” Jian Tang asked in utter disbelief, “you… you aren’t having an affair, are you?”
With a loud bang, the table in front of him vibrated violently. Startled into a shiver, Jian Tang snapped his head up, only to find that the “dislike guy” opposite him had accidentally banged his knee into the corner of the table.
“…Sorry.”
Probably realizing he had frightened someone, the dislike guy apologized in a low voice, immediately stood up, and moved to another seat farther away.
The distance between the two of them widened significantly.
Jian Tang re-focused on his phone with lingering trepidation. He saw his wife typing a new response in the chat box—the other party was typing incredibly fast, hitting him with a triple clarification combo.
Wife: [How could that be.]
Wife: [Not true at all.]
Wife: [Don’t overthink it.]
“Then why are you being so secretive, saying it’s inconvenient no matter what I ask?” Jian Tang raised a perfectly reasonable doubt. “If I ask you to take a photo right now and send it to me, are you going to say it’s not very convenient too?”
…Actually, it really wasn’t very convenient.
Just then, a commotion erupted near the hotel entrance. A rather large tour group had arrived, and a massive crowd of people streamed into the lobby.
The group’s tour guide led the way, introducing the place enthusiastically to the guests: “Once check-in is complete, everyone can go to your rooms to rest for a bit. We’ll head out to the scenic spots this afternoon… Oh right, the hot spring SPA at this hotel is an absolute must-try! You can go experience it while you rest this morning. Members of our tour group get a twenty percent discount!”
A new message instantly popped up in the chat box.
Wife: [I’m getting a hot spring SPA.]
Jian Tang: “…”
Jian Tang: “???”
Is today International Hot Spring SPA Day or something?
Not only had the three Realm Lord big shots run off to experience a hot spring SPA, but his own wife had gone to one too.
Wife: [It’s very quiet here and someone is sleeping, so it’s really not convenient for voice messages. As for video calls, there are venue regulations that prohibit them.]
Oh… Jian Tang suddenly understood.
Put that way, it actually made total sense.
As a dirt-poor little monster, Jian Tang had never enjoyed a high-end hot spring SPA. He had only seen promotional clips on the advertisement screens while riding the public bus.
In those promotional videos, several people would soak in the same hot spring pool surrounded by a serene environment and swirling steam, creating an elegant, paradise-like picture. In such a refined place, it seemed they really did need to maintain quiet and protect the guests’ privacy.
“So, are you there with other people?” Jian Tang asked.
Wife: [Yeah.]
Wife: [They’re all strangers.]
Jian Tang pouted his small mouth, feeling a bit sullen. “When I invited you to take a bath together at home before, not only were you unwilling, you even terrified me! But now you’re out soaking in hot springs with strangers.”
The person whose dark history had been brought up out of nowhere: “…”
Wife: […I wasn’t unwilling.]
Jian Tang extended an active invitation once more: “Then shall the two of us take a bath together in the big tub at home tonight?”
He was met with an immediate rejection: [No.]
Jian Tang: [QAQ See, you’re still unwilling!]
Wife: [It’s not that I’m unwilling. Going out for a hot spring is fine, but taking a bath together at home won’t work.]
Why on earth not!
Wife: [The space at home is too small, it’s not convenient.]
Ah? Was that the reason?
Jian Tang thought about it. He felt the large bathtub at home was actually quite big. Forget about holding just him and his wife; even if another person joined them, there would be room to spare. How was it inconvenient?
Wife: [If you want, you can come over right now and soak in the hot spring with me.]
Wife: [Want to come?]
Jian Tang’s attention was instantly deflected. Although he was thrilled by his wife’s invitation, the timing and venue right now weren’t exactly ideal.
“Ah…” Jian Tang felt very regretful. “Thank you for inviting me, wife, but I don’t have time during the day. I have to work overtime to accompany the clients…”
Wife: [It’s fine.]
Wife: [We’ll come back together when you’re free.]
“Okay, okay!” Jian Tang nodded happily in rapid succession. Suddenly realizing the other party couldn’t see him at all, he switched to sending emojis in the chat box, spamming a bunch of little bunny stickers scattering flowers and spinning around.
“Hehe, it’s a promise then!”
Wife: [Yeah, it’s a promise.]
After that, the two chatted about various other topics. One sent texts while the other sent voice messages, killing an hour of time without even realizing it.
Suddenly, the pinned group chat notification popped up with a new message.
A’nie: [It’s over. We’re coming down right now.]
Jian Tang: “!”
The big bosses were on their way down, so as a little tagalong lackey, he naturally had to be fully prepared to receive them. Jian Tang hurriedly sent a voice message saying, “I have to start work now, talk to you later!” and quickly put his phone away.
He stood up and began smoothing out his clothes.
Today, Jian Tang was dressed in a casual and carefree style. His upper body featured a crisp, short-sleeved plaid shirt over a white ice-silk tank top, paired with denim shorts on his lower body. The outfit accentuated his narrow waist and perky hips, making his pair of gorgeous legs look incredibly white and long.
Behind the lounge area was a decorative partition wall embedded with large panes of colored glass. It had an excellent reflective effect and could easily double as a mirror.
Jian Tang walked over to the glass partition, checking his reflection to see if anything was out of place.
As he was inspecting himself, he suddenly caught sight of the awkward guy sitting in the corner of the lounge area watching him.
He whipped his head around, only to find the other party looking down at his phone, as if the image he had just seen in the reflection was merely an illusion.
“?”
Jian Tang withdrew his gaze in puzzlement and continued tidying himself up.
He smoothed down his slightly messy short hair and adjusted his waistband. Suddenly, he noticed some lint sticking to his thighs and butt, likely from the seat cushion he had just been sitting on. So, he turned halfway sideways, patting his thighs and butt while facing the reflection.
This fine lint was incredibly annoying. Jian Tang gave himself a series of swift slaps and even ran his fingers around the inside of his shorts’ leg openings before he finally managed to clear it all away.
He stood straight before the reflection once more, only to suddenly discover… that dislike guy was watching him again.
Jian Tang turned around instantly. This time, he finally caught him red-handed—the other party locked eyes with him for a split second before rapidly lowering his head.
Under Jian Tang’s suspicious scrutiny, the man awkwardly shifted his sitting posture, lifting the coffee cup in front of him in a blatant attempt to cover it up and taking a massive gulp.
“…”
This guy is so suspicious.
The more Jian Tang thought about it, the weirder it felt. Just then, an elevator arrived at the lobby area. The doors slid open, and several familiar figures entered Jian Tang’s field of vision.
The big bosses were here!
Jian Tang quickly pulled himself together and went to meet them.
The moment the three of them stepped into the first-floor lobby, they drew the gazes of countless people—they were simply way too conspicuous.
The handsome guy leading the pack had a head of brilliantly shining golden hair. He wore a loud, gaudy beach shirt and multicolored swim trunks, with a ridiculously thick gold chain around his neck, exuding the absolute aura of a tacky nouveau riche tycoon.
Walking alongside him was a tattooed older sister wearing sunglasses. She sported a head of multicolored dreadlocks, possessed a tall figure with long legs, and strode forward with her head held high. Her overwhelming queenly aura practically dominated the entire room.
Following this eye-catching duo was a stone-faced little boy who looked as perfectly sculpted as porcelain. His tiny short legs were moving at lightning speed, irresistibly reminding people of a swimming duckling—on the surface of the water, he looked leisurely and calm, but underneath, his paddling little webbed feet were moving so fast they left afterimages. It was honestly because the two adults were walking way too fast! They didn’t even wait for the child!
The three big shots had long grown completely immune to the shocked stares humans cast their way. The Nightmare Duke’s gaze swept across the lobby, spotting Jian Tang hurrying toward them.
“Oh my, I am truly so sorry.” The man curved his lips into a smile and opened his arms in a hugging gesture. “Kept you waiting for so long, Little Jellybean.”
A big shot’s apology was just like a playboy’s sweet words—it was best just to listen and not take it seriously. Jian Tang nimbly dodged the man’s embrace, flashing a polite yet professional smile: “Hehe, not long at all. It wouldn’t matter even if it were longer.”
Fila raised an eyebrow. Before he could make another move, another hand already looped around the boy’s shoulders, drawing him close to her side.
“Little munchkin, a beautiful night has already passed. How is your consideration going?” Heramis smiled as she looked down, using her finger to lightly stroke the boy’s pink, tender cheek. “Have you made up your mind to become my next lover?”
Jian Tang: “…”
Jian Tang: “I-I still need to think about it… D-Didn’t you say you’d give me two days to consider…?”
Heramis narrowed her eyes. Just as she was about to speak, her expression suddenly sharpened, and she snapped her head toward the northwest corner.
It wasn’t just her; her companions, Fila and A’nie, also looked in that direction in unison.
—Just now, they had clearly sensed a thread of killing intent.
This thread of killing intent vanished in a flash and was now completely untraceable, making it seem as though the intense sense of crisis from a moment ago was merely their imagination.
Fila stared at the human sitting in the northwest lounge area. The other party seemed completely oblivious to the fact that three terrifying bosses were glaring at him like tigers watching their prey; he was still looking down, scrolling through his phone, taking occasional sips from the coffee beside him.
Recalling that Jian Tang had also just come from the direction of the lounge area, the Nightmare Duke directed his gaze toward the boy.
“Little Jellybean, yesterday it was Mr. Feng. Today, this one…” He gestured toward the lounge area with a half-smile. “Which mister of yours is he?”
Jian Tang, who was completely out of the loop: “Ah?” He followed Fila’s gaze toward the lounge area. “…Uh, I don’t know him.”
Although they had shared brief verbal contact and visual exchanges, he and the dislike guy were, in essence, complete strangers.
Fila’s eyes were sharp, so he could naturally tell that Jian Tang wasn’t lying. He stared at the man for a bit longer—plain looks, plain aura. No matter how he looked at him, he was just a thoroughly ordinary human.
He looked toward his other two companions. A’nie lightly shook his head, indicating he hadn’t detected anything unusual.
Heramis wore an indifferent expression: “Who do we even need to be afraid of?”
True enough.
In a remote and backward plane like this, even if it was just a Realm Lord’s avatar, it was a presence capable of dimensional suppression—not to mention there were three such avatars here.
Even if they encountered high-level task-takers, they wouldn’t feel an ounce of fear… Well, except for that most perverted and ferocious one.
“Are we not heading out yet?” Jian Tang asked weakly.
Standing together with three massive attention-grabbers meant every single person passing through the hotel lobby would equally shower him with attention. To a little monster accustomed to keeping a low profile, this was pure torture, leaving him sitting on pins and needles—what if they ran into people from the Investigation Bureau!
“We’re leaving right now.”
The Nightmare Duke withdrew his gaze and crisply snapped his fingers. In the eyes of others, this bizarre family of four (?) finally walked out of the hotel gates in a grand, sweeping procession.
Feng Xun watched this group depart with cold eyes. He slammed his emptied coffee cup heavily onto the table, a glint of sinister malice flashing across the depths of his eyes.
He finally understood.
These dumbass clients weren’t here to talk business.
They had formed a group specifically to poach his target!
—
The destination of Jian Tang and the others’ trip was a massive water park in City A.
The weather was growing hotter by the day, and since today happened to be Saturday, the water park was bursting at the seams with people. Just finding a parking spot in the underground garage took quite a bit of effort.
Fortunately, the various bosses were in high spirits, and they didn’t escalate the “parking spot grab” game into a game of “bumper cars” over such minor trifles. They merely urged Jian Tang to learn how to drive as soon as possible so that he could serve as their exclusive driver whenever they came over in the future.
Shocked by this terrible news, Jian Tang thought: What?! You guys can actually come back again in the future?!
How big bosses who were supposed to be locked up in public dungeons by the system could “escape prison” time and time again—who the hell dared to ask? Jian Tang could only meekly promise to do so.
Wuwu, looks like I really will have to go take a human driver’s license exam later.
Finally getting the car parked, the group climbed out of the sports car and took the elevator up to the first floor.
Minutes later, another silver SUV drove into the underground parking lot.
After parking the vehicle, a young man with a plain appearance climbed out.
Before leaving, Feng Xun used the reflection of the car window to check his new face—the face from before couldn’t be used anymore, so he had swapped to a new image.
Confirming there were no errors in his appearance, he hesitated for a brief moment, called up the system panel, slipped the ring off his left middle finger, and stowed it inside the panel’s built-in inventory space.
Given Jian Tang’s denseness, the boy might not necessarily notice that the two of them were wearing the exact same ring, but he felt those clients all had incredibly sharp eyes—especially that tattooed woman, whose gaze was as sharp and vicious as a falcon’s.
It was safer to be meticulous.
With his preparations complete, Feng Xun rode the elevator and arrived at the first-floor lobby above.
It was currently peak visitor hours, and the lobby was packed with tourists buying tickets, alongside tour guides shouting at their group members to assemble, creating a chaotic and noisy scene.
Feng Xun’s gaze swept across the crowd. With his sharp eyes, he caught sight of Jian Tang and the others, who had unexpectedly already finished buying their tickets, scanned their cards at the turnstiles, and entered the main hall of the amusement area.
By the time Feng Xun successfully entered the main hall of the amusement area, the figures of those four were already nowhere to be seen.
He estimated the time, guessing they probably hadn’t started playing yet and were most likely changing into swimwear in the locker room area.
He headed toward the locker rooms immediately.
The locker room area here was massive, divided into several spaces. The storage lockers alone were scattered across multiple spots, and the shower zones and changing stalls were dispersed all over the place, making the entire layout resemble a maze.
Many people grew completely disoriented upon entering. Feng Xun possessed extensive experience in maze-solving, so he wouldn’t exactly get lost, but trying to find someone here was genuinely difficult.
He walked through every single changing area but didn’t spot any sign of the four of them.
…Could they have left already?
As things stood, he could only enter the water park area to look for them.
Feng Xun had come in a hurry today and hadn’t prepared wearable swimwear, so he went to the service desk to purchase a pair of swim trunks, picking up a locker key tag along the way.
He glanced at the number on the tag and walked in the direction of the lockers.
On the way, he passed through a shower zone consisting of small, individual cubicles. Plastic curtains hung outside the entrances, and the sound of rushing water echoed from within.
The floor here was soaking wet, mixed with slippery bath foam. Every single person passing by moved with absolute caution, terrified of wiping out flat on their back.
There were also unruly ones—a few bratty kids were sitting on small duck floaties they had dragged out from the amusement area, playing slide-and-tackle games on the wet floor, charging left and right as each laughed and quacked merrily.
Seeing them slide-tackling over again, Feng Xun took a step back to avoid them, but the floor was far too slick. He failed to plant his feet firmly for a moment, stumbling backward a couple of steps and stepping straight into a shower cubicle.
Even though there was no sound of running water, someone was actually inside, letting out an immediate “Ouch!”
It was a familiar voice.
Feng Xun froze, whipping his head around.
He then locked eyes with Jian Tang, who was right in the middle of stripping off his clothes.
