Chapter 54: The Meeting
Secretary Zhao left in a hurry. Jiang Yu walked over to the computer and tapped the keyboard; the desktop opened right away.
He noticed that the files on this computer were rather interesting. There were only four folders on the desktop:
Music, Movies, TV Dramas, and the last one, Variety Shows.
Flirting Scholar should be in the Movies folder. Jiang Yu opened it and found many subfolders inside, each with a different title.
Out of curiosity, he opened the first one, Under the Starry Sky. It was a movie script. After skimming a few lines, he saw it was a romance—another tragic, deeply angsty love story. Jiang Yu curled his lips and closed it.
He searched for Flirting Scholar and found the folder. Inside was the script he had written from memory back then. Jiang Yu printed two copies.
Qian Changjiang didn’t seem to be coming back anytime soon. Bored, Jiang Yu began to look around the room, and the more he looked, the more something felt off.
In front of a huge floor-to-ceiling window stood a long table. On it sat a computer and a neat stack of documents.
The décor had a strong personal style—it wasn’t the standardized look of a typical office. There was no sofa in the room either, only two desks and three chairs.
Jiang Yu was sitting at the shorter desk. Squinting, he seemed to spot something familiar on the long table.
He walked over, picked up a black mug, and the more he looked at it, the more it resembled the mug he had once given Han Cheng.
Printed on the mug was a photo of Jiang Yu and Han Cheng together. When there was no water inside, the mug was black; as soon as hot water was poured in, the photo would appear.
A small chip was missing from the handle—that was from when he and Han Cheng had argued and he’d thrown it. The mug had been good quality; it hadn’t shattered, just chipped.
His mug was here, and this room was clearly different from the rest. Jiang Yu guessed this must be Han Cheng’s office.
Han Entertainment had moved offices two years ago. Since then, Jiang Yu had rarely come to the company. It had been two years, and he truly didn’t know where Han Cheng’s office was.
Secretary Zhao wasn’t around. If Qian Changjiang came back while he was waiting here, they’d miss each other.
Carrying the printed script, Jiang Yu left Han Cheng’s office, found the first person he saw, and asked where the lounge was.
That person recognized Jiang Yu and led him there. Sure enough, Qian Changjiang was already waiting inside.
“Director Qian, when did you get back? I’m not familiar with this place. I was waiting in another room earlier and only just found the lounge—sorry to have kept you waiting.” Jiang Yu shook hands with Qian Changjiang and explained with a smile.
“?” Qian Changjiang was momentarily puzzled. He hadn’t gone anywhere, so why was Jiang Yu asking when he’d gotten back? Had Jiang Yu seen him go to the restroom? What was there to ask about that?
Finding Jiang Yu’s small talk a bit awkward, Qian Changjiang gave an awkward laugh and skipped over the topic. Smiling, he said, “I haven’t been waiting long either. Mr. Jiang, let me introduce everyone.
“This is Ma Zhao, our team’s assistant director. And this is Zhang Liang, our screenwriter. President Han said this script was written by you, so you have the final say on the story. Zhang Liang will just assist you.”
Qian Changjiang had brought only two people with him today. After the introductions, he picked up a stack of papers that also looked freshly printed and continued, “We just looked over the script you wrote. The story is excellent—just reading the dialogue had us laughing nonstop. I’m sure it’ll be very popular once it’s filmed.
“However, you probably haven’t formally studied screenwriting. What you wrote leans more toward prose. Zhang Liang will adapt your story into proper screenplay format based on your plot. I guarantee we won’t change your storyline, and we won’t alter a single line of dialogue.”
Qian Changjiang seemed afraid of upsetting Jiang Yu and emphasized several times that nothing Jiang Yu had written would be changed.
“This is also my first time writing a film script. There’s a lot I don’t understand yet—I’ll need to learn a lot from Brother Zhang,” Jiang Yu said.
He set down the two copies of the script he’d brought and discussed the details with Qian Changjiang and the others.
