The Interdimensional Reseller – CH211

Chapter 211

Crescent Group

Zhuang Feixue looked curiously at the jujubes in front of her. “So these are the legendary ‘immortal jujubes’?”

Chu Feng frowned slightly. “Immortal jujubes?”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Yeah! I heard the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities has a rare jujube tree that bore a few hundred fruits — they’re extremely valuable and have all kinds of benefits.”

The National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities had many ability-users, so while over 200 fruits was no small number, demand far exceeded supply.

With the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities’s jujubes in short supply, some people had already set their sights on Chu Feng’s share.

Before Chu Feng even returned, Zhuang Feixue had already received several phone calls inquiring about the jujube.

At first, Zhuang Feixue didn’t know anything about them, but after being asked by a few people, she figured it out.

Chu Feng rolled a jujube between his fingers and said, “Eating them does have some benefits, but calling them ‘immortal jujubes’ is an exaggeration. I ate fifty of them and felt a slight increase in my abilities.”

His abilities were advancing very slowly at this point. The dates tasted good, but eating just a few didn’t make much difference. However, eating dozens at once was another story—it was probably a case of quantity producing a qualitative change, and it was easy to feel the improvement in ability.

Zhuang Feixue blinked. “You ate more than fifty of them?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah, why?”

These dates were quite large, so eating over fifty was enough to make one feel full—but they were indeed delicious.

Zhuang Feixue blinked again. “It’s nothing. A lot of people have called me asking whether you’d sell any. I was going to ask your opinion, but…” Seeing that Chu Feng had eaten so many, there probably wasn’t much left to sell.

Chu Feng waved it off. “Ignore them. Good things should be kept for ourselves.” He had plenty of people around him who needed them, so there was no share left for outsiders.

Chu Feng pushed a plate of jujubes toward her. “These are for you, sister.”

Zhuang Feixue’s eyes lit up. “For me?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”

Zhuang Feixue tilted her head. “Aren’t these supposed to boost the power of ability-users? Isn’t it a waste to give them to me?” There were eight dates on the plate, and right now, each one was extremely hard to get.

Chu Feng smiled. “They can also beautify the skin and keep you youthful.”

Hearing “beautify the skin,” Zhuang Feixue was immediately tempted. “Then I’ll eat them!”

Chu Feng nodded. “Go ahead.”

Zhuang Feixue didn’t stand on ceremony. She picked one up and popped it into her mouth. “It really does taste great!”

Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah. Jocelyn turned out to be useful after all.”

Zhuang Feixue rolled her eyes. “What do you mean ‘turned out to be useful’? He’s a B-rank ability-user!”

She had only noticed Jocelyn’s beauty before, not realizing he was also a B-rank plant-type ability-user.

Chu Feng shook his head. “That idiot Jocelyn let Shen Yuxing sweet-talk him into doing a power assessment in just a few sentences.”

Zhuang Feixue was curious. “With Jocelyn’s abilities, I’d be curious too if I were Shen Yuxing. By the way, if Jocelyn is B-rank, doesn’t that mean the Divine Healer is even stronger?”

Chu Feng shook his head. “Hard to say.”

Jocelyn was a pure-blood elf with naturally high talent. He had also received plenty of training resources among his people, so his strength was considerable. The shaman had only used a few more witch stones than Jocelyn, so their abilities were probably on par.

Zhuang Feixue tilted her head. “Is that so? Has Jocelyn actually surpassed his teacher?”

Chu Feng: “…” Strictly speaking, Jocelyn wasn’t really the shaman’s disciple, so it couldn’t be called “surpassing the master.”

Just then, Zhuang Cheng pushed the door open and came in. “Sis, second brother’s here too!”

Chu Feng nodded.

Zhuang Cheng glanced at the plate on the table, his eyes lighting up. “Hey, are those the jujubes?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Pretty much the ones you’re thinking of.”

Zhuang Cheng blinked. “Can I have one?”

“Ask your sister—they’re all for her.”

Zhuang Cheng looked at Zhuang Feixue, and she nodded.

Zhuang Cheng quickly picked one up and popped it into his mouth.

“So good. Seriously delicious. Brother Feng, are you selling these?”

Chu Feng looked at him with interest. “Who wants to buy them? Don’t tell me it’s someone from the Zhuang family?”

Zhuang Cheng gave an awkward smile. “No, no.”

Chu Feng narrowed his eyes. “Do I need to call Illya over to see if you’re telling the truth?”

Even though he didn’t have Illya’s abilities, he could tell Zhuang Cheng wasn’t being honest.

Zhuang Cheng scratched his head. “Grandpa just called me, asking how you’re doing and when you’d have time for a family gathering.”

Chu Feng crossed his arms, thinking to himself that the old man’s tone had finally softened, no longer that overbearing patriarch act. “Everyone’s busy. Nothing to gather for,” Chu Feng said.

Zhuang Cheng gave a wry smile. “I see.”

He sighed. In fact, two days ago, Grandpa had come personally to the Crescent Group, only to be thrown out by security.

After going home, the old man had flown into a rage and told him to complain to Chu Feng.

As far as Zhuang Cheng knew, Chu Feng had given security a short list of approved visitors. Aside from a few specific people, anyone claiming to be his relative was to be turned away. If they tried to force their way in, they were to be thrown out.

Grandpa thought the security team was overstepping, but in reality, this was exactly what Second Brother had instructed. The old man was just being foolish. The Zhuang family’s baby-switch scandal had caused a huge uproar, and the security team naturally knew who Chu Feng was. Without his say-so, they would never have been so decisive.

Second Brother’s attitude toward the Zhuang family seemed to be one of polite distance.

“The Zhuang Group isn’t doing too well,” Zhuang Cheng said.

Zhuang Feixue gave him a look. “And you care about that?”

The Zhuang Group had been founded by the old man, but because he favored his eldest son, her father’s Yangfan Group had split off. The two companies were separate but still had plenty of connections.

Zhuang Cheng gave a sheepish smile. “Just curious.”

After the recent earthquake, the Zhuang Group had suffered heavy losses. Between compensation for victims and rebuilding damaged properties, they needed a lot of money. If things went badly, their cash flow could collapse. The group was on the brink, and it seemed Uncle wasn’t doing well.

Zhuang Cheng looked at Chu Feng. “Second Brother, what do you think?”

Chu Feng curled his lip. “What’s it got to do with me?”

Zhuang Cheng: … Fair enough—it really had nothing to do with Second Brother.

Chu Feng put his hands on his hips and said, “It was definitely the right choice not to get involved in the Zhuang Corporation’s affairs back then. Otherwise, I might not have gained any benefits and would be saddled with debt instead.”

Zhuang Cheng: “… Lately, so many companies have gone bankrupt.”

Zhuang Feixue narrowed her eyes. “Although many companies have gone bankrupt, quite a few have risen as well. Recently, there’s a company called Tianhe Pharmaceuticals that seems to be really popular!”

Chu Feng said with interest, “Tianhe Pharmaceuticals? A pharmaceutical company?”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Tianhe Pharmaceuticals used to be a biological research company and made quite a few achievements in drug research. After the rise of ability-users, the company recruited many experts. Among them is one particularly famous individual known as the ‘Cage Master,’ who should be an A-level ability-user.”

Chu Feng asked in puzzlement, “‘Cage Master’? What kind of ability is that?”

Zhuang Feixue took a deep breath. “It’s said he can create cages out of thin air to trap his prey. You know how many beasts are incredibly fast, making it hard to lock onto them with firearms—well, with this ability, you can trap the beast first, then attack it with guns or explosives.”

Chu Feng narrowed his eyes. “That’s quite an interesting ability!”

Zhuang Cheng took a deep breath. “Brother Feng, I heard Tianhe Pharmaceuticals is researching a kind of genetic potion. Its effects are somewhat similar to the Strengthening Serum—once developed, it can enhance a person’s physical fitness.”

Chu Feng nodded. “That’s a good thing!”

Zhuang Cheng looked at him. “Brother Feng, don’t you feel any pressure?”

Chu Feng smiled. “What’s there to be pressured about? It’s like instant noodles—there are at least dozens of brands on the market. Everyone makes instant noodles so the public can have more choices. If there were only one instant noodle company left, that would be the real tragedy.”

Zhuang Cheng: “…” Well, that… kind of makes sense.

At the Zhuang household

Su Manqing looked at Zhuang Zhenyang. “Dear, what did Zhuang Cheng say?”

Zhuang Zhenyang glanced at her. “He said Chu Feng refused—said he’s not free.”

Su Manqing said a little dejectedly, “I see…”

Zhuang Zhenyang sighed. He felt his younger son had become hesitant and evasive lately. It was as if they and Chu Feng were on opposing sides, and the younger son, who used to be caught in the middle, had now taken Chu Feng’s side.

Although Zhuang Zhenyang felt a bit frustrated, he had to admit the younger son’s choice was correct—following Chu Feng had more prospects than following him. After the earthquake, many resource-rich mountains had emerged, and simply picking something from them could fetch a sky-high price. Those with ability had quickly risen to prominence. Many companies declined, but many powers rose rapidly.

Plant-type ability-users were rare and precious talents that all major powers sought to recruit, and Chu Feng had casually brought one in.

Still, weren’t they supposed to be family? Why did things have to turn out like this?

Su Manqing muttered, “Not free, huh?”

It was said that two days ago, someone named Lin Zhihao had arrived and immediately parachuted into a managerial position at Crescent Group.

Chu Feng even prepared a welcome banquet for him, inviting several senior executives and ability-users from Crescent Group. Su Manqing knew this person was once Chu Feng’s “cousin” (in name only). When she heard the news, she felt a bit sour—Chu Feng was supposed to be part of the Zhuang family! Yet when the old man himself went over, he was thrown out, while this unrelated “cousin” got such respect.

“Did Xiao Cheng mention the jujubes?” Su Manqing asked.

Zhuang Zhenyang frowned. “He said they taste pretty good. Chu Feng gave Feixue a plate, and he managed to get two from her.”

Su Manqing said excitedly, “So Feixue ate them all?”

Zhuang Zhenyang nodded. “I heard they replenish qi and blood and are good for beauty and skin care, so she ate them all.” Feixue had always loved beauty; in the past, she even ate strange things for the sake of skincare, which sometimes caused allergic reactions.

Su Manqing shook her head regretfully. “I see…”

Her few close friends had been asking if she could get some jujubes, but she faintly felt they weren’t really asking about the fruit—they were trying to gauge just how bad the relationship between the Zhu?ng family and Chu Feng had gotten.

“Dad, Mom,” Zhuang Feilei walked in.

Su Manqing said calmly, “You’re back, Feilei.”

Zhuang Zhenyang sighed inwardly. Lately, he had been somewhat afraid of seeing this adopted daughter.

Although he felt she was innocent, whenever he thought of Chu Feng, he couldn’t help feeling melancholy. If only they hadn’t made the mistake of swapping the babies back then. If only, after learning Chu Feng’s identity, they had given him more attention—things wouldn’t be like this now.

Zhuang Feilei nodded. “The cooperation with Fengyun Company on the branch office side has been negotiated.”

Su Manqing nodded. “You’ve worked hard.”

Zhuang Feilei shook her head. “It was nothing.”

She sighed inwardly. In truth, it hadn’t been easy to close the deal. That day, she had been negotiating with Fengyun’s people for a long time without success. Then, by coincidence, she ran into Zhuang Feixue.

Zhuang Feixue looked radiant—despite being almost thirty, she seemed to be aging in reverse, looking like a young woman in her early twenties.

With just a few casual words from Zhuang Feixue, the Fengyun side had softened.

Although Chu Feng stayed out of company matters, as the real decision-maker at Crescent Group, Zhuang Feixue wielded great power. Zhuang Feilei had always thought Zhuang Feixue’s career in the entertainment industry was frivolous, but now that she was focusing on serious business, Zhuang Feilei felt suffocated, as if being overshadowed.

What she couldn’t accomplish despite all her effort, Zhuang Feixue had handled in just a few sentences.

When she saw Zhuang Feixue, there were two ability-users by her side. Zhuang Feilei hadn’t understood why Chu Feng had recruited two female strength-type ability-users, but now it seemed they were there specifically for Zhuang Feixue.

Chu Feng was really good to her—Zhuang Feilei couldn’t help but feel a little jealous.
