Chapter 207
Chu Feng led Lin Zhihao into the building.
Inside, seeing Chu Feng personally bringing someone in, everyone looked at Lin Zhihao with new respect.
Delice looked excited when she saw him. “Uncle Lin, what are you doing here?”
Lin Zhihao shrugged. “Haven’t had much to do lately. I heard Crescent Group was hiring, so I came to find a job.”
Delice puffed her cheeks. “Boss Feng is stingy! I only get four thousand yuan a month. Who knows how long it’ll take before I can buy a handbag. Why would you think it’s a good idea to work for him, Uncle Lin?”
Lin Zhihao: “…” Four thousand did seem kind of low. “Then why are you working for him?”
Delice puffed her cheeks again, a bit irritably. “I’m just doing it out of old friendship, reluctantly.”
Lin Zhihao: “…” Really?
Riya’s expression was a bit strange when she saw Lin Zhihao.
Back when she was buying woodcarvings, she had interacted more with him. At the time, he was just a little shop assistant, speaking with a stutter and blushing whenever teased. But now… he seemed different.
“Chu Feng.” Zhuang Feixue came down from upstairs.
“Big Sis.”
Zhuang Feixue looked at Lin Zhihao and asked, “And this is…?”
Chu Feng smiled. “My former cousin. Sis, could you help me find the HR manager and arrange a supervisor position for him?”
Lin Zhihao was startled. “No, no, I can’t do that. Just arrange an entry-level position for me.” He knew a bit about the Crescent Group—the admission standards were extremely high, and many outstanding talents considered it an honor just to get in. Plenty of people failed in the very first round. How could he be worthy?
Chu Feng patted his shoulder. “It’s fine, just do it casually. I’m just casually being a boss too. If I can’t keep it up one day, I’ll just sell the building.”
Lin Zhihao: “…” With so many employees watching, was it really okay for the big boss to say something like that? Wouldn’t it hurt morale?
Zhuang Cheng looked at Lin Zhihao with a hint of sourness, thinking: Second Brother treats this guy so well… I had to start as a regular employee, but he just parachutes in as a manager.
Zhuang Cheng thought to himself: Mom and Dad were close to Sister Feilei but cold toward Second Brother—was his mood back then the same kind of sourness I’m feeling now?
Lin Zhihao looked at Chu Feng for a moment. “Then I’ll just be a supervisor first.”
Delice looked at Lin Zhihao. “Being a supervisor is great! Of course you should take it. If you’re just an employee making a few thousand a month, you’d have to live in a basement! I want to be a supervisor too—Boss, when will you promote me?”
Lin Zhihao: “…”
Chu Feng glanced at Delice and curled his lip. “What are you thinking? You haven’t even done your employee job well, and you’re already dreaming of being a supervisor? Can you even count from one to ten thousand yet?”
Delice: “…”
Watching the group leave, Chen Feng nudged Riya with her elbow. “A new supervisor just parachuted in, huh? I think he was looking at you just now.”
Riya smiled. “You saw wrong.”
Chen Feng pouted. “Don’t try to fool me. You know the boss—do you know this new supervisor too?”
Riya shook her head. “I only bought a few things from him before—not enough to call it familiar.”
She pressed her lips together. She had looked into Lin Zhihao a bit back then—he used to stutter, and because of that he kept hitting walls when job hunting. Later he became a clerk at the woodcarving shop.
A stutterer as a shop clerk had even been laughed at for a while.
When she first met him, he still stuttered, speaking haltingly, and seemed timid. Not long after, his stutter was gone and he had become much more confident.
She had heard from nearby shopkeepers that it was because he spoke with customers so much that he got cured.
There were indeed cases like that, so she hadn’t thought much about it. But thinking about it now, it might have been related to the Divine Doctor.
Given how miraculous the Divine Doctor’s medicines were, curing a stutter should be easy.
“You bought something from the new supervisor? What was it?” Chen Feng asked.
“Wood carvings.”
“Oh, wood carvings! Not medicinal pills?” Chen Feng said.
Riya sighed. “I wish it had been medicinal pills.”
She shook her head. If it had been a few months ago, when they first met, she would never have thought that the timid, blushing shop clerk would one day be her direct superior. She couldn’t help but sigh—life’s twists and turns were unpredictable.
Chen Feng frowned. “The boss’s relationships are kind of complicated. Is this Lin Zhihao from his adoptive parents’ side? Even Zhuang Cheng is just a regular employee, but this guy parachutes straight in as a supervisor.”
“Boss’s matters aren’t for us to comment on,” Riya said.
Chen Feng stuck out her tongue. “True! The Crescent Group is so hard to get into—if we got fired for gossiping about the boss, that’d be a real loss.”
In the office.
“Is the medical lab set up?” Chu Feng asked Zhuang Feixue.
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Everything’s ready, and we’ve recruited the specialists.”
“I’ll go take a look,” Chu Feng said.
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Alright. In a few days, are we bringing over that mysterious pharmacist?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Mm, it can be considered.”
Shaman Qiu Luo had always wanted to come here. Although Chu Feng had already given him quite a bit of medical supplies, meeting face-to-face would allow for deeper exchange and a better understanding of the local medical system. Now with Delice as a translator, it was even more convenient.
Come to think of it, the girl’s awakening of her ability had been really well-timed—when the came, she could help.
Maybe he should consider giving the girl a raise. Four thousand a month was far too little for an ability-user—it was probably the lowest pay in that category. A secret can’t be kept forever; even though she was a bit silly and easy to fool now, over time she’d probably notice something was off.
Zhuang Feixue smiled. “I really want to see what that person’s like.”
Chu Feng smiled. “Just one nose and two eyes—nothing special.”
Zhuang Feixue shook her head. “How could it be nothing special? This person is considered a legendary figure by many in the medical world! Tons of medical professionals want to meet him.”
Chu Feng smiled. “Is that so?”
Zhuang Feixue nodded.
Shaman Qiu Luo’s importance was extraordinary. If he came, Chu Feng would absolutely have to ensure his safety.
Chu Feng went to check the medical research lab. Inside, several experts in white lab coats were conducting experiments. There were plenty of bottles and jars on the tables, and on the computer screens numbers were flashing—numbers he didn’t understand.
Jin Jie and Zheng Xue were together chatting.
Both were strength-type ability-users, and since they’d both been accepted into the Crescent Group, they had grown closer.
“I heard that pharmacist is coming,” Zheng Xue said.
Jin Jie nodded and said, “Seems like it. Our first task is to ensure the safety of this pharmacist.”
Zheng Xue took a deep breath and said, “That’s quite an honor. This pharmacist is really mysterious! Everyone knows that Chu Feng has such a pharmacist behind him, but it seems like no one has ever seen him—he’s hidden away very well.”
Jin Jie folded her hands behind her back and said, “Maybe he’s an old man.”
Zheng Xue smiled and said, “Most likely an old man. After all, highly skilled traditional Chinese doctors are usually elderly.”
“What are you two talking about?” Delice hopped over to them. Jin Jie and Zheng Xue exchanged a glance and smiled. “Oh, it’s you, Delice! Where are you rushing off to?”
Hands on her hips, Delice said, “I’m going to find Chu Feng and ask him to give me a raise. I just met someone who said I should join the entertainment industry and that I could earn at least a million a year. I knew it—I’m worth more than just four thousand a month.”
Jin Jie: “…” Four thousand a month really was on the low side.
Zheng Xue: “…” Sometimes Chu Feng was generous, but other times, he could be stingy. Still, since this salary was set by the boss, he probably had his reasons.
“Do you think I’d do well in the entertainment industry?” Delice asked, hands behind her back.
Jin Jie gave an awkward smile and said, “I think you should ask the boss instead. My opinion doesn’t really count.”
Delice pouted. “Why are you so indecisive? People like you are destined to be employees forever and never become a boss.”
Jin Jie: “…” She never planned on being a boss anyway.
Delice turned her gaze to Zheng Xue. “What about you?”
Feeling cornered, Zheng Xue got a bit of a headache. “The entertainment industry is complicated—it’s not easy to survive there.”
Delice frowned. “Forget that. What were you talking about earlier? Something about a pharmacist?”
“The boss seems to be planning to bring over that pharmacist who makes elixirs. Not sure if it’s true,” Jin Jie said.
Delice’s eyes lit up. “Is the Shaman coming? I knew he wouldn’t be able to sit still.”
Jin Jie asked curiously, “You know that pharmacist? What kind of person is he?”
Delice looked a little down. “The Shaman is kind of fierce, but he’s a good person.”
Jin Jie frowned to herself—so Delice really does know him.
“I’m going to find Chu Feng.”
Chu Feng was in his room chatting with a few ability-users when Delice barged in. They had already met her during their interviews, but seeing her now, they were still struck by her beauty.
Chu Feng glanced at her, noticing her fierce expression, and asked curiously, “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Delice looked at him with a serious face. “I just met someone who said he could make me a star, earning a million a year.”
Chu Feng gave her a look and said, “You ran into a scammer, you know?”
“Really?” Delice asked.
“Of course,” Chu Feng nodded. “It’s either a pyramid scheme or human trafficking. There are lots of bad people out there, and they especially like targeting naive girls like you. They’ll paint you a pretty picture and hand you a bad check.”
Delice eyed him suspiciously. “Are you lying to me?”
Chu Feng shot back, “Why would I lie to you? If you don’t believe me, ask these people—see if I’m telling the truth.”
The ability-users, though privately thinking that she really would become popular in the entertainment industry, all nodded in agreement with Chu Feng. A girl like her going out into the world alone really would be in danger.
“How dare he try to scam me! I hope I never run into him again,” Delice huffed, puffing out her cheeks before storming out.
Ji Ping watched her go, thinking: Such a pretty girl, yet she insists on working for Chu Feng. What a waste. Then again, he figured he wasn’t exactly in a position to judge.
