The Interdimensional Reseller – CH205

Eight Ability Users

Chapter 205: Eight Ability Users

Zhuang Feixue contacted the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities and found Chen Chao’s file.

Chen Chao’s background was anything but simple—he was a child raised by a group of human traffickers. These traffickers crippled or blinded several children under their control and sent them out to beg. Chen Chao was one of them, his leg crippled, leaving him with a limp.

After the world’s upheaval, Chen Chao awakened the power of Shadow Throwing Knives. Upon awakening, he used his knives to severely injure several of the traffickers.

Chen Chao was briefly detained for this—ability-users are still legally responsible for improper use of their powers. However, since he was a minor, and the traffickers were hardly good people, the matter was eventually dropped.

Although young, Chen Chao’s abilities were not weak, and the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities ended up recruiting him.

The boy’s temperament was decent—very loyal to friends. There were several other disabled children who had been under the traffickers’ control. Once Chen Chao joined the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities and began enjoying good benefits, he took it upon himself to support his former companions.

Previously, the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities had traded quite a few elixirs from Chu Feng, and Chen Chao received one, curing his leg injury.

Many of the other trafficked children also had leg problems, but the number of Bone-Forging Elixirs was limited. The National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities gave Chen Chao one because of his abilities, but they weren’t going to casually distribute them to the others.

While at the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities, Chen Chao overheard talk about Chu Feng’s recruitment drive—people said that if you joined Crescent Group, you’d have the chance to get various elixirs and potions. Tempted, he decided to sign up.

“What’s your ability?” Delice asked.

Chen Chao, normally acting like a street punk, immediately blushed when she spoke.

Chu Feng thought to himself: Kids these days mature way too fast—just seeing a pretty woman and they turn red.

“My ability is throwing knives.”

Chen Chao shnk-shnk-shnk summoned his knives—seven or eight of them embedded themselves into a glass table at the side. With a loud bang, the table collapsed.

Delice clapped her hands. “Not bad, not bad. Again.”

Chen Chao’s face turned crimson, but he didn’t move. Chu Feng raised an eyebrow—estimating that the kid’s limit had already been reached.

Still, his ability wasn’t simple—the table he pierced was made of bulletproof glass, something even bullets struggled to penetrate. Yet Chen Chao’s knives went through it easily, showing considerable power.

The knives weren’t physical objects, but seemed to be some form of energy construct. When he fired them, they appeared to separate naturally from his body’s energy. After hitting the table, they turned intangible again and the energy flowed back into him.

This meant the knives were likely his innate companion weapon. His power was a bit weak for now, but if he kept training, and could one day fire a hundred knives at once, that would be terrifying.

Delice looked at Chu Feng. “Boss, hire him. I want to learn throwing knives.”

Chu Feng thought to himself: I already have enough kids here—am I running a company or a kindergarten?

But when he saw the expectant faces of Gray and Delice, he sighed. “Fine, hire him.”

He figured having another local kid as a playmate for the others wasn’t bad. Chen Chao might be a bit ch?niby?, but he had a good heart, and being a “leader” among children meant he had some experience taking care of others.

Chen Chao exhaled in relief and said excitedly, “Thanks, thanks!”

Chu Feng looked at Zhuang Feixue. “Alright, next.”

A pure-looking teenage girl walked in—sixteen or seventeen, with a round, innocent face. Her ability was Beast Speech, allowing her to control birds.

Chu Feng only asked a few questions before letting her go.

Zhuang Feixue asked, “Not taking her? Her ability is good.” In today’s information age, controlling birds for intelligence gathering was quite valuable.

“She’s got problems,” Chu Feng replied.

Zhuang Feixue looked puzzled. “A spy?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Yep.”

Zhuang Cheng was surprised. “She doesn’t look it at all.”

Chu Feng thought: If spies looked like spies, they wouldn’t be sent here as moles.

“The record says she’s sixteen, but I think she lied,” Illya said.

Zhuang Feixue asked, “Really?”

Illya nodded. “Judging from her emotional fluctuations, she was definitely faking it. If I’m not wrong, she’s probably over forty.”

“How can you tell she’s over forty?” Zhuang Feixue asked.

Illya frowned. “Just a hunch—intuition.”

“Can someone over forty really look like that?” Zhuang Feixue asked skeptically. “Even with beauty elixirs, it’s hard to pull off.”

Illya tilted her head. “Don’t you people here have plastic surgery?”

Zhuang Feixue: … “Sure, but not quite to that extent.”

Zhuang Cheng blinked. “If she really is over forty, maybe it’s because of some ability?”

Zhuang Feixue asked, “What ability?”

Zhuang Cheng said, “I saw something online—someone had two neighbors. One suddenly looked ten years younger, the other suddenly aged ten years. People suspected it was ability-related.”

Chu Feng took a deep breath. “Age transfer ability?”

Zhuang Cheng nodded. “Could be.”

Chu Feng frowned and looked at Illya. “You guys ever seen that kind of thing?”

Illya shook her head. “Never heard of it.”

Chu Feng pursed his lips. “If it’s just transferring appearance, fine. But if it’s transferring physical aging—then that’s scary.”

Zhuang Cheng nodded. “Yeah—if you could keep shifting your aging to someone else, you might live forever.”

Chu Feng: … Immortality—that would be something.

Chu Feng had a feeling that his physical condition was constantly transforming, and the rate of aging seemed to have slowed. He probably would live longer than the average person now, but immortality? That was something he wouldn’t even dare to imagine.

Zhuang Cheng looked at Chu Feng and asked, “So you’re rejecting her just because she faked her age?”

Illya shook his head. “Not just that. I don’t know exactly which ability-user organization she came from, but she was definitely sent by a large organization, likely to go undercover here.”

Zhuang Feixue thought for a moment. “Maybe they made her like that to gain your trust.”

That ability-user they had just seen, judging by appearance alone, really looked like an innocent, naive little girl who easily stirred feelings of affection. However, because Illya’s ability was special, this trick actually backfired.

One interviewee after another came in, and Chu Feng discovered four spies in a row. Without hesitation, he rejected all of them. Chu Feng secretly suspected that if it weren’t for Illya’s powers, this place might have turned into a spy recruitment center.

Zhuang Cheng blinked. “That last one was a spy too?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”

Zhuang Cheng thought for a moment. “That one actually looked kind of like a spy. Maybe the people who sent him were trying to play reverse psychology.” That man had a scar on his face and looked a bit like a gangster. Usually, spies looked harmless, but sending in someone who didn’t look trustworthy might actually lower suspicion.

“Spies come in all varieties—cute and youthful, refined and gentle, or downright fierce-looking,” Delice said with interest.

Gray nodded. “Yeah, it’s really interesting.”

Zhuang Feixue: “…” Interesting? Really?

“Next.”

Ji Ping walked in and greeted them respectfully.

After several ability-users had been rejected in a row, he was feeling nervous.

“Eyesight awakening?” Chu Feng asked.

Ji Ping nodded. “Yes. I can clearly see things a thousand miles away.”

Before awakening, Ji Ping had been extremely nearsighted—1,200 degrees. Without his glasses, he was practically blind.

He had always dreamed of having normal vision, but in his case, the correction went too far—he ended up with extraordinary eyesight.

After spending over ten years with severe myopia, it was hard for him to adapt when he first got his ability. He could see every tiny fly and mosquito in detail, and often found himself disturbed by how clearly he saw unpleasant things. Now, he had mostly adapted.

Chu Feng raised an eyebrow. A “clairvoyance” type ability seemed quite good. Paired with the “keen hearing” user he’d already recruited, their combined abilities could be very effective for lookout duty.

After asking a few more questions and finding no issues, Chu Feng nodded. “You’re hired.”

“Next.”

Zhou Gang came in and greeted them.

He was tall—over two meters—and solidly built, a typical strength-type ability-user.

Chu Feng thought: This is exactly what a strength-type should look like.

“Zhou Gang, nickname ‘King Kong’?”

Zhou Gang scratched his head. “That’s just what people call me.”

He was one of the early awakened ability-users and was somewhat well-known. A former special forces soldier, he had worked as a bodyguard after retirement, but was fired for his hot temper. He fell into hard times until awakening his ability, which improved his life.

Zhou Gang started a bodyguard company, recruiting some of his old comrades.

Many ex-special forces soldiers had difficulty adjusting after retiring from military life. After spending their severance pay, some became mercenaries, fighting in war-torn regions until they could no longer hold a gun.

Zhou Gang badly needed this job at Crescent Group. Two of his brothers-in-arms were paralyzed, and only the Bone-Forging Elixir could make them walk again.

The elixir was extremely expensive and hard to obtain. Zhou Gang had managed to get only one after much effort, but more people needed it. His only option was to try his luck here.

By the end of the interviews, Chu Feng had selected eight ability-users. Including the disguised strength-user, half of them were strength-type. The others had abilities in clairvoyance, keen hearing, speed, and flight.

Chu Feng wasn’t stingy—after hiring them, he gave each one a strengthening potion as a welcome gift. Chen Chao and Zhou Gang requested to exchange their potion for a Bone-Forging Elixir, and Chu Feng agreed.
