Delice’s Ability

Chapter 203: Delice’s Ability

A few days later.

“Zheng Xue, did you get the interview notice?” Mu Linlang asked.

Zheng Xue nodded, looking a little excited. “I did.”

It seemed there were many ability-users who wanted to join Crescent Group. Zheng Xue had originally thought her ability was too ordinary and feared she’d be eliminated, but unexpectedly she had received an interview invitation.

Mu Linlang sighed. “I didn’t get one.”

Zheng Xue was surprised. “How could that be?”

Mu Linlang’s ability was much rarer than hers, so it didn’t make sense that she was selected while Mu Linlang was not.

“Maybe my ability just isn’t what Chu Feng needs.” Mu Linlang had always thought her power was quite impressive, but failing to pass even the first round had dealt a heavy blow to her confidence.

“Maybe the interview notice just hasn’t been sent yet,” Zheng Xue said.

Mu Linlang shook her head. “The list of interviewees from the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities’s applicants was sent out all at once.”

Zheng Xue secretly felt a bit sorry for her. “Linlang, are you trying to join the Crescent Chamber of Commerce because of the Beauty Elixir?”

Mu Linlang smiled without answering. In truth, that was part of the reason, but not all of it.

Chu Feng’s ability level was very high, and many suspected he had some shortcut to advancement.

Many people wanted to join Crescent Group to learn from Chu Feng. Even if they failed, it wouldn’t cost them anything.

“If I get in and manage to get one, I’ll definitely give you an elixir,” Zheng Xue said with a smile.

Zheng Xue herself had been longing for the Beauty Elixir.

Mu Linlang smiled. “I’ll be counting on you then.”

Zheng Xue thought for a moment. “It’s doable. I heard Chu Feng released a lot of elixirs and potions before to buy the office building. With your ability, if you put in some effort, you should be able to get one.”

Mu Linlang nodded. “Maybe.”

The people who had bought the building earlier seemed to be very sought after lately, with many trying to trade with them…

Shen Yutong was reading documents when a knock sounded on the door.

“Come in.”

Yuan Bin pushed the door open and stepped inside.

“Oh, it’s Mr. Yuan? What can I do for you?” Shen Yutong asked.

Yuan Bin’s face was tense. He hesitated for a moment before saying, “Miss Shen, I heard you’re acquainted with Chu Feng.”

Shen Yutong sighed. “You could say so… but it’s not really that close. Do you need me to help with something?”

Yuan Bin frowned. “I just want to discuss cultivation methods with him.”

After the video of Chu Feng instantly killing the Green Wolf King went viral online, his fame had skyrocketed, putting a lot of pressure on Yuan Bin. Perhaps because Chu Feng’s ability was so high, even within the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities, few still compared him to Yuan Bin—because there was simply no comparison.

Yuan Bin had always wanted to improve his ability and compete with the “Car Cutter,” but now he had been completely crushed.

In order to find out why Chu Feng’s power had risen so quickly, Yuan Bin—reluctantly—submitted a résumé to the newly established Crescent Group. To his humiliation, he was rejected outright.

He had swallowed his pride, prepared himself mentally, and applied, only to fail at the very first hurdle. He treated Chu Feng as a rival, but the other man didn’t take him seriously at all.

Shen Yutong could more or less guess what he was thinking and sighed. “Chu Feng isn’t actually a wind-type ability-user. You don’t need to compare yourself to him.”

Yuan Bin frowned. “He’s not?”

Shen Yutong shook her head. “No. That was a space blade—a branch of spatial ability—that just looks like a wind blade when used.”

Director Wang’s video had only captured Chu Feng slicing through a beast, not his teleportation, so most netizens still assumed he was wind-type. But well-informed people had already learned the truth.

Compared to wind abilities, Chu Feng’s power was not only more versatile but also far more mysterious.

Yuan Bin frowned. “So that’s how it is?”

It was as if someone had dumped a bucket of cold water over him. Everyone had said the “Car Cutter” was wind-type, and many had sighed over the vast difference in strength between two people with the same element. In the end, ability type was one thing, but actual strength was another. Yuan Bin had been obsessed with raising his power to match Chu Feng’s, but now Shen Yutong was telling him they’d all been wrong from the start—Chu Feng wasn’t wind-type at all.

Shen Yutong nodded. “That’s right.”

Yuan Bin suddenly remembered something Zhuang Cheng had said the other day: “It’s no use finding him; he’s not even…”

Was that what Zhuang Cheng had meant—that Chu Feng wasn’t wind-type?

If they had known all along, why didn’t they just say so earlier?

Shen Yuxing shook his head and said, “It’s not just you. The higher-ups in the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities are also very curious about the reason for Chu Feng’s rapid progress, but…” Many ability-users have their own secrets, and no one would casually reveal them.

Yuan Bin frowned and said, “The world is in such chaos right now. If Chu Feng really has some kind of cultivation secret, sharing it might help solve humanity’s crisis.”

Shen Yutong gave a helpless smile and said, “I’ll talk to Chu Feng.” Shen Yuxing shook his head. If her guess was right, there were multiple reasons behind Chu Feng’s powerful abilities.

He used to be just an ordinary delivery man, but one day, he suddenly became wealthy. It must have been around that time that he awakened his ability. Judging from the timing, Chu Feng should have been among the first wave of awakeners. His ability was special — he must have found a good number of witch stones, plus there was that pharmacist backing him.

All these factors combined made it impossible for ordinary ability-users to compare.

“This is the shortlist of resumes,” Zhuang Feixue said.

Chu Feng looked at her. “Sis, you’re sure these have already been filtered?”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Yes.”

Chu Feng frowned. “Why are there still so many?”

Zhuang Feixue gave a bitter smile. “I’ve already eliminated ninety percent.”

Chu Feng: “…”

As Chu Feng was flipping through the resumes, a call came in.

When he answered, he was a bit surprised.

Illya glanced at him. “What is it?”

“Delice awakened an ability,” Chu Feng said.

Illya blinked. “That little girl awakened? That’s surprising! What kind of ability?”

Chu Feng shook his head. “Not entirely sure yet, but it seems she can now understand the local language. Lin Zhihao played her several TV shows from different countries, and she understood all of them.”

Illya asked curiously, “What kind of ability is that…?”

Chu Feng took a deep breath. “Sounds like a top-tier translation ability!”

Illya thought for a moment. “Delice isn’t very smart and learns languages slowly, but she loves watching TV. Maybe she got impatient and just awakened the ability directly.”

Chu Feng nodded. “True, that girl is a bit silly.” Maybe this was what they called “a fool’s blessing.”

Illya: “…”

Zhuang Feixue asked curiously, “Who is Delice?”

“A somewhat narcissistic and vain little girl,” Chu Feng replied.

Zhuang Feixue raised an eyebrow. The name didn’t sound like someone from Huaxia Country. Could she be Illya’s relative?

Chu Feng nodded. “Sort of.”

Illya looked at him. “Should we bring Delice and the others over?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Sure.”

Keeping the kids cooped up at home all day wasn’t great anyway.

With earthquakes happening all over and the authorities busy constructing new buildings, dealing with newly emerged mountains, and strange beasts, it was about time to let the little ones out for some fresh air.

Chu Feng teleported back to the villa and brought Delice and Gray over.

Delice had just been watching TV in the villa, and in the blink of an eye, she was now in a high-rise building. She couldn’t help looking surprised.

“Boss, is this the building you bought?” Delice asked.

Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”

Delice nodded. “Looks pretty good, but… isn’t the landscaping a bit lacking?”

Chu Feng: “…”

Talking about landscaping in a place like the Capital, where land was worth its weight in gold… what was this silly girl dreaming about?

Delice lifted her chin proudly. “Boss, I’m an ability-user now, you know?”

Chu Feng nodded. “I know.”

Delice beamed. “Uncle Lin said that knowing five or six languages already makes you a top talent. I know way more than that! I might even be able to get a PhD in linguistics.”

Chu Feng: “…”

This girl really knew how to dream. Did she think getting a PhD was that easy?

The British come here to take an English test, and even if they got a perfect score of 100, they’d only manage about 30. For someone like Delice, getting 20 would already be impressive—this little girl might not even graduate elementary school, and she’s still dreaming of a PhD? She really doesn’t know her limits.

“An ability is an ability, and intelligence is intelligence. Do you think awakening an ability will make you smarter? Don’t dream.”

Delice, who had been quite proud of awakening her ability, instantly wilted under Chu Feng’s scolding.

Chu Feng turned his head and saw his older sister, Zhuang Feixue, looking dazed. Zhuang Cheng was sitting obediently to the side, like a model student. Seeing Delice, Zhuang Feixue was a little stunned by her looks.
“Chu Feng, this is the girl you were talking about?” she murmured.

Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”

“So beautiful!” Zhuang Feixue thought to herself: Looking this pretty isn’t vanity—it’s genuine beauty.

She frowned inwardly: Just what kind of place is Illya? Any random relative they bring over is a peerless beauty. Chu Feng glanced at Zhuang Cheng and thought: That idiot—blushing like that in front of a pretty face—no self-control at all.

Delice looked at Chu Feng proudly. “I’m really amazing now. Gray and the others can’t understand the TV, so they ask me to tell them what it’s about.”

Chu Feng replied, “Mm, that’s… passable.”

Delice clasped her hands behind her back. “So, are you going to hire me?”

Chu Feng nodded. “I could consider hiring you as a translator.”

Delice lifted her chin smugly. “I’m an ability-user now. How much are you going to pay me?”

“Three thousand a month. High enough?”

Zhuang Cheng thought: That’s too stingy—she’s an ability-user and gorgeous, and Second Brother is only offering three thousand!

Delice fumed. “You think I can’t do math? I’ve already looked into it. In the Capital, with three thousand a month, you can only live in a sunless basement and eat instant noodles every day. Well… eating instant noodles every day isn’t so bad—they taste good—but I’m not living in a basement.”

Chu Feng: “…” This little girl is sharp—she even knows about basements. “Then how much do you want?”

“I’m an ability-user. You should give me at least three hundred thousand a month. I want to live a refined life—buy beautiful clothes and exquisite bags. I want a huge walk-in closet with several cabinets full of all kinds of bags,” Delice said.

Chu Feng: “…” Wow, she’s already been corrupted by capitalism.

“What makes you worth three hundred thousand a month?” Chu Feng said with a straight face.

Delice got riled up. “If you don’t give it to me, I’ll go work somewhere else!”

Chu Feng crossed his arms. “You little brat—haven’t even finished nine years of compulsory education, can’t write properly, can’t do math. If I don’t hire you, no one else will. You think you can ‘switch jobs’?”

Zhuang Cheng: “…” Second Brother’s too much! With looks like hers, even without abilities, she could live off her face alone.

Delice puffed her cheeks. “Liar! Of course people would want me.”

Zhuang Feixue thought: With her looks, if a director saw her, they’d be stunned. She’d definitely be a hit in the entertainment industry—making her a translator is a complete waste. Still, she didn’t call Chu Feng out on it.

Chu Feng raised his chin. “I’m an important man—why would I lie to you?”

Delice seemed somewhat convinced. “Three thousand is too little. Give me a bit more.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Fine, I’ll add one thousand.”

Delice reluctantly nodded with puffed cheeks.

Zhuang Feixue secretly felt sorry for the girl.

Zhuang Cheng: “… Second Brother is way too black-hearted—tricking a naive young girl.”

And yet, despite how stingy he is, there’s still a line of people sending in resumes, flocking to him like sheep to the slaughter. These job seekers are fools—dreaming of working for such a black-hearted capitalist.

Chu Feng: “…” Lately, he’s been so exhausted that only teasing kids can relieve his stress. What a twisted hobby… Why is he like this?
