Chapter 202
Chu Feng glanced at Zhuang Feixue lazily. “Nothing much, just talked about a bunch of meaningless stuff.”
Zhuang Feixue nodded with a quiet “Oh.”
“Why are you looking at me like that, Sis?”
She shook her head. “It’s nothing.”
Feilei seemed to have a unique charm—men who met her often ended up easily captivated.
Sometimes, Zhuang Feixue truly envied that kind of allure.
She had plenty of online fans calling her a goddess, but very few men seriously pursued her, and those who did had pretty average qualities.
Recently, the suitors had been more numerous and more outstanding, but all of them clearly had ulterior motives.
When Chu Feng was called away just now, Zhuang Feixue was a little worried. But then she thought of Illya and relaxed—Feixu might be impressive, but compared to Illya, she was still far behind.
Zhuang Feixue glanced sideways at Illya, who was sitting there “fiercely” drinking his milk tea, looking irritated.
Zhuang Feixue tilted her head, thinking: A beauty is a beauty—even with a sulky face, he still looks gorgeous. If Illya’s fans saw his looking like this, they’d probably scream “so cute!”
“These résumés are a headache to look at, aren’t they?” Zhuang Feixue asked.
Illya looked up seriously and nodded. “Yes.” He could speak the local language now, but still couldn’t read much, so she found reading résumés a headache and could only drink milk tea instead.
“Sis, how many have you read? Half yet?” Chu Feng asked.
“Are you kidding? With this many résumés, going through them all takes time. Be patient,” Zhuang Feixue said.
Chu Feng nodded. “Alright.”
She frowned. “It seems a lot of factions are interested in you, Chu Feng. I’m sure quite a few spies are mixed in here.”
Chu Feng’s expression remained calm. “No problem. When the time comes, we can set up a heart-test—ask them a few questions and we’ll know.”
“And if they lie?”
Chu Feng smiled. “Doesn’t matter. Illya has a branch ability that can detect lies.”
Zhuang Feixue froze. “Detect lies? Illya has that kind of ability?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yep.”
Zhuang Feixue smiled. “That’s impressive.”
Chu Feng looked at the pile of paperwork, feeling a headache coming on. He thought: I really am suited to being a boss—just hand everything off to the employees.
“The preliminary screening is all yours, Sis. I’m going out for a bit.”
She nodded. “Alright.”
With that, Chu Feng disappeared with Illya.
Zhuang Feixue noticed that when Illya left, he looked visibly relieved…
Not long after, a rustling sound came from the doorway. Zhuang Cheng peeked his head in.
“You’re back,” Zhuang Feixue said, turning to look at him.
Zhuang Cheng nodded, his eyes darting around. “Where’s Second Brother?”
“Out wandering.”
Zhuang Cheng shook his head. “Second Brother really can’t stay put.”
Zhuang Feixue rolled her eyes. “You were eavesdropping on your Second Brother and Feilei just now, weren’t you? What did they say?”
Zhuang Cheng propped his face in his hands and recounted their conversation.
“Chu Feng really said that?” Zhuang Feixue asked.
“Yeah! Not a shred of tenderness. I guess Second Sister’s never had a man treat her like that—her face completely changed.”
Zhuang Feixue rolled her eyes again. “What nonsense. Chu Feng and Feilei are…” Well, nothing really—they weren’t even related by blood.
“Second Brother’s not like most men.”
“Of course he’s not,” Zhuang Feixue said with a smile.
Her little brother was destined to become the number one master in the world, to dominate all under heaven—how could ordinary people compare?
Tilting her head, she thought: Feilei had always been more popular than her since childhood, but Chu Feng’s indifference toward Feilei gave her a secret sense of victory.
Her brother was simply too exceptional—no matter how good Feilei’s connections were, all those people combined still couldn’t compare to a single finger of Chu Feng’s. She couldn’t help feeling proud.
She thought to herself: The smartest thing I ever did was, after learning Chu Feng’s identity, to go and find him.
“Sis, you look really happy,” Zhuang Cheng said.
Zhuang Feixue blinked, wondering: Did he notice?
Zhuang Feixue changed the subject and said, “Manning said Feixue’s past romance line has been cut off?”
Zhuang Feixue thought to herself: Feixue had always been popular with men. Before, she had a good relationship with several young masters from the business and political worlds. Now, she seemed to know a few ability-users.
Zhuang Cheng nodded. “That’s indeed the case.”
He thought to himself: Feixue used to be quite close to a few of those young masters, and they all seemed to have intentions toward her. But recently, her contact with them seemed to have decreased.
“Has Feixue’s romance line with Zhou Ting been cut off?”
Zhuang Cheng blinked. “Quite possibly! I heard Zhou Ting went to talk to Father about a business collaboration a couple of days ago, but Father rejected him. The Zhou family isn’t doing too well this time.”
Zhuang Feixue asked curiously, “What happened to the Zhou family?”
Zhuang Cheng blinked. “The old man at the top of the Zhou family had an accident during the earthquake and ended up in the ICU. Although he’s still alive… his life is hanging by a thread. He probably won’t make it.”
Zhuang Feixue narrowed her eyes and thought: The Zhou family’s influence had already been weakened by the rise of ability-users, and there weren’t many competent people in the second generation. Without that old man holding things together, decline was inevitable. But that had nothing to do with her…
After being busy in the present world for a while, Chu Feng took Illya back to Crescent Village.
Shaman Qiu Luo saw them and smiled. “You’re here. Need something?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yes! Could you prepare more of that Bone-Forging Elixir? You can make some ordinary versions, no need to have such a strong dosage.”
Qiu Luo nodded. “Sure. How effective is this Bone-Forging Elixir?”
Chu Feng handed over a data file. “It’s all here.”
Qiu Luo took a look at the projection and was surprised. “It can heal fractures?”
Although it was his first time seeing such a projection, Qiu Luo’s comprehension was excellent, and he immediately understood it without guidance.
Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”
It seemed the Bone-Forging Elixir contained some special factor that could heal broken bones.
Qiu Luo nodded. “This medicine is more amazing than I thought! But your equipment is really impressive—being able to take images of the inside.”
Chu Feng waved his hand with a smile. “Nothing much.”
“I’ve heard that in your world, ability-users are now emerging like an explosion—every type imaginable. You should also have potion-makers and elixir alchemists now, right?” Qiu Luo asked curiously.
Illya tilted his head. “Maybe, but they probably aren’t that skilled yet. Haven’t heard of any particularly outstanding ones. Shaman, you’re a legend over there, you know?”
Qiu Luo was a bit surprised. “A legend?”
Illya nodded. “Yes.”
Although the wasn’t in the present world, his reputation there was steadily growing.
When the Beauty Elixir had been popular, many had already tried to investigate the’s identity. Later, with the release of the Strengthening Elixir and Bone-Forging Elixir, it became even more so.
Qiu Luo chuckled. “Is it really that exaggerated? Are you teasing me?”
He shook his head, clearly not thinking his skills were that extraordinary.
Illya shook his head seriously. “I’m not exaggerating—it’s true.”
Chu Feng also smiled. “Shaman, Illya isn’t lying. In our world, many people want to know what you really look like. On the black market, there’s even a bounty for finding you—it’s reached several hundred million. Many famous detectives want to take the job, but no matter how they search, they can’t find your true location.”
Qiu Luo, perhaps a little embarrassed by the praise, asked, “What’s so worth seeing?”
“Shaman, you’re actually quite handsome,” Chu Feng complimented.
Qiu Luo was indeed a good-looking man. Although age had taken away some youthful charm, it had given him a mature, weathered appeal instead.
As Chu Feng knew, many young girls didn’t like boys their own age, but rather, more mature men.
Qiu Luo changed the topic. “You said many people are looking for me?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yes, they’re looking very hard—tracking, surveillance, covert investigations… probably using every method they can think of. After the earthquake, many strange mountains appeared, and quite a few new passages emerged. A lot of people suspect Illya comes from a hidden secret realm. But no matter how much they guess, they’d never imagine he’s from another world entirely. Without my unusual ability, there’d be no way to meet you.”
“Shaman, how’s the Tree of Life doing?” Illya asked.
Mentioning the Tree of Life seemed to lift the’s spirits. “It’s growing quickly—it’s already a meter tall. But…”
Chu Feng quickly asked, “What’s wrong?”
“The consumption of witch stones is quite high,” Qiu Luo said.
That little sapling could consume one witch stone a day. The cost was staggering—not something an ordinary person could afford to raise.
Chu Feng waved it off. “That’s fine.”
Qiu Luo gave him a look. “That’s fine?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”
Since the earthquake, witch stones had lost much of their former value. Before, he had to work hard to get one. Now, he just had to wander around the new mountains and he’d almost never come back empty-handed.
Qiu Luo sighed. “It seems a lot has really changed in your world. Duo Duo came back saying many new mountains appeared, and many people were buried in them.”
Chu Feng nodded. “That’s true.”
Qiu Luo shook his head. “But Duo Duo’s words are so unreliable that people think she’s just hallucinating from watching too much TV.”
Chu Feng: “… Which is why being a rabbit means you need to be a reliable rabbit. If you act unreliable all the time, no one believes you even when you tell the truth.”
He took out a bag containing a dozen witch stones. “Use these to raise the Ancient Tree of Life.”
Qiu Luo looked at him and thought Chu Feng’s gestures were getting grander and grander.
“With these witch stones, we should be able to collect life essence soon,” Qiu Luo said.
Chu Feng said with some surprise, “Wasn’t it just a little sapling?”
Shaman Qiu Luo nodded. “Yes, a sapling can’t produce as much life essence as a fully grown tree, but it will still yield some. If the Tree of Life is nourished with witch stones, the production speed of life essence should increase.”
Chu Feng nodded. “That’s good then.”
He had thought it would take several years, but it seemed he could get his hands on it much sooner.
Recently, he had been using quite a few witch stones, but the rate at which his abilities improved had been getting slower and slower. If there was life essence, perhaps that situation could be improved. With such a big name, the life essence had to be worth something…
Chu Feng and Illya went to see the Tree of Life.
Chu Feng frowned. “This little tree is growing really fast!”
Jocelyn nodded. “When it first sprouts, it grows quickly. After a while, it will slow down.”
Illya sat beside the little tree, took a deep breath, and said, “It feels so comfortable here!”
Chu Feng glanced at him. “Since we’re not in a hurry, you can stay here for a while.”
Illya thought for a moment. “Alright then!”
He simply took a witch stone and began cultivating right beside the elven tree.
The Tree of Life truly deserved its title as the sacred tree of the elves. Chu Feng stayed next to it for a few hours, and his stagnant spiritual power actually rose slightly.
He looked at Jocelyn. “Does the ancient Tree of Life enhance one’s abilities?”
Jocelyn nodded. “A little. When you first come into contact with the Tree of Life, the effect is stronger. Over time, it fades. The life essence works more directly.”
Chu Feng nodded. “I understand.”
