The Interdimensional Reseller – CH179

Water Element User

Chapter 179: Water Element User

After strolling around the tribe for a bit, Chu Feng and Illya went to check out the tribe’s vegetable garden.

“It’s really a greenhouse! I can’t believe they actually built it.”

“It’s just assembling one according to the blueprint—nothing special.”

Chu Feng glanced at the crops in the garden and rolled his eyes. “This patch… is Jocelyn managing it?”

Illya nodded and said, “Yes.”

Chu Feng frowned. “This pureblood elf really seems to love eggplants!”

She had planted so many of them—were eggplants really that tasty? Back where he came from, even the kids didn’t really like eating them.

“Jocelyn brought a lot of seeds unique to the elven tribe and planted them here.”

Since the elves mostly had wood-element powers, they cultivated many different plants. Thanks to Jocelyn, several new edible vegetables were now available. It also seemed like she carried a lot of fruit tree seeds, planning to plant them in spring.

“She planted so many eggplants, but only a small area for the rest—there must be at least a dozen crop types here.” Just how obsessed was she with eggplants?

Illya nodded. “Yeah, quite the strange preference. But Jocelyn’s abilities are impressive.” The whole garden looked lush and green. When he last came, nothing had been planted yet, so everything must have grown in just the past few days.

Chu Feng tilted his head. “I think I just saw a restaurant open up in the castle area.”

Illya nodded. “I saw it too.”

Chu Feng smiled. “Let’s go try it out.”

They hadn’t had many food choices before, but now things were different. The Crescent Village had been developing new dishes, and this place now had quite a few options that even the village didn’t have. Switching up their meals occasionally sounded like a great idea.

Illya nodded. “Sure.” …

*

“Boss.” Manning found Chu Feng.

Chu Feng nodded at him. “Settling in well?”

Manning nodded. “Yeah, I’ve been watching TV lately to learn how to speak.”

Chu Feng nodded. “That’s a great method!” Entertainment and learning all in one.

Manning hesitated. “Once I finish the few shows I’m watching, I want to go back over there.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Of course!”

He thought to himself—Manning’s pretty clever. Maybe he plans to finish his current shows, then head back to download some new ones?

Manning smiled in surprise. “Thanks, boss.”

Chu Feng chuckled. “No problem.”

“Those two elves haven’t caused trouble, right?” Chu Feng asked.

It was said that pureblood elves looked down on half-elves, while half-elves held a natural reverence for full-bloods. So Chu Feng figured Manning would give a fair answer.

“Nope! This is your territory, boss!”

If it were back in the elven village, it’d be different. But this was the half-elf village—those two elves couldn’t stir up much.

Angelina had been a bit arrogant at first, but soon got captivated by the variety of things in the village. There were too many strange and novel things here. Even the noble humans were awestruck—those two elves were nothing special in comparison.

That said, Angelina really was beautiful—more so than Qing Lan or Tilly.

“Honestly, Crescent Village is really different from anywhere else,” Manning said.

Chu Feng asked curiously, “How so?”

Manning shrugged. “I’m not sure… but it’s rare to find a place where all races can live together equally.”

At first, Manning also struggled to adjust to life here, but now he was fully integrated.

“Are there many people pursuing Angelina?” Chu Feng asked casually.

Manning shook his head. “Not really. Riye seemed a bit interested, but he got shut down pretty quickly.”

Chu Feng frowned. “Riye? I thought he liked Lichiya.”

Manning nodded. “He did. But Lichiya doesn’t seem to like him anymore—she has someone else now.”

“Who?” Chu Feng asked.

“Apparently, she likes Lan Hu now,” Manning said.

Chu Feng was startled. “Lan Hu? Why him all of a sudden? He hasn’t even been around the castle area recently… Could it be that whole ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ thing?”

Manning nodded. “Didn’t you bring Lan Hu over before?”

Chu Feng: “…” Oh right, he had. Last time, Lan Hu said he wanted to personally select some goods from the tribe, so Chu Feng had brought him over. Lan Hu had been doing well in Tianhai City, making money hand over fist. Since he was such a capable employee, Chu Feng had granted his request. Lan Hu stayed for a few days, then Chu Feng sent him back.

Chu Feng looked puzzled. “Why would Lichiya suddenly fall for Lan Hu?”

Manning nodded. “Well, Lan Hu is pretty successful now.”

Chu Feng: “…” Life really is ironic. You try to cultivate love and get nothing. But plant a willow by chance, and it thrives. Back then, Lan Hu left home because Lichiya rejected him. And now, she suddenly likes him.

Illya asked in confusion, “Not many people like Angelina?”

Illya didn’t particularly like Angelina but had to admit she was beautiful.

Chu Feng glanced at Illya, silently thinking: Illya cares this much about Angelina?

Manning blinked and said, “Maybe it’s because everyone is too busy?”

Chu Feng nodded, “Busy, yeah!”

Manning nodded as well, “Didn’t they set up a screening room? Everyone gathers there to watch TV in the evening when there’s nothing to do.”

Before, there weren’t many entertainment options, so people just wanted a warm family life. But with television, it was different.

In the modern world, many homebody guys are like that — they can go without a girlfriend, but not without a phone or games. Classic recluse behavior.

Zhuang Feixue put down her phone and asked with a bit of confusion, “Where did they go?”

Zhuang Cheng blinked, “Can’t reach Chu Feng’s phone?”

Zhuang Feixue nodded, “Exactly!”

Zhuang Cheng rubbed his forehead and said, “Same old situation. Probably turned it off because the media is hounding him too much. Don’t worry, those two will be fine.”

Zhuang Feixue pursed her lips and said, “There are a lot of crazy organizations out there researching ability-users. They like to capture them for experimentation. Illya’s so well-known now — if someone targets her, it’ll be trouble.”

It seemed Illya never wanted to reveal her ability-user identity, but she used her power openly this time for someone else’s sake. Many people now seemed very interested in her abilities.

Zhuang Cheng: “…If someone targets Illya, they’re the ones in trouble. She could cut them in half before they even know what hit them. That’s what happened to the people who once kidnapped her — they didn’t even leave a full corpse behind. Illya is very strong.”

Zhuang Feixue nodded, “I know. But if someone finds Illya too difficult to deal with and tries to go after Chu Feng instead, he could be in danger.”

Zhuang Cheng: “…If that’s the case, that person’s clearly got a death wish. Second Brother is way scarier than Second Brother-in-law.”

“Don’t overthink it, Sis,” Zhuang Cheng added. “There are so many ability-users nowadays. If a research institute is going to experiment on someone, they’ll probably pick a less noticeable target. Illya’s too high-profile.”

Zhuang Feixue thought for a moment. “You’re right.” Illya was in the spotlight now — every move she made attracted attention. Zhuang Feixue held a letter and fell into thought.

“Sis, what’s that in your hand?”

“An invitation. Not sure if I should go.” Zhuang Feixue replied.

Zhuang Cheng asked in confusion, “I thought you hated these kinds of events.”

Zhuang Feixue frowned, “It’s an invitation from the Jiang family. I don’t have any major engagements lately, so it might be worth checking out.”

“Jiang family? What are they throwing a party for?”

“A birthday party. Kind of a matchmaking event, too.” Zhuang Feixue shook her head. In noble circles, there were quite a few aging bachelors and bachelorettes. The younger generation wasn’t in a rush, but their parents acted like their butts were on fire.

“Sis, I heard Jiang Yuening awakened her powers?” Zhuang Cheng asked enviously.

Zhuang Feixue nodded, “Yes.”

Zhuang Cheng frowned, “It seems like more and more people are awakening powers lately, but not many in our circle.”

Zhuang Feixue agreed, “Yeah.”

Awakening was random. Being wealthy didn’t give anyone extra odds. China had a huge population — even with a low awakening rate, many still awakened. But since the rich were a small group, not many of them got powers.

It was rare that Jiang Yuening awakened water-based powers, so of course they were going to celebrate.

Zhuang Cheng asked curiously, “Do you know what her ability is?”

Zhuang Feixue tilted her head, “Seems to be water-based. I heard she can release a bucket of water a day.”

Zhuang Cheng scoffed, “A bucket of water a day? That’s pretty useless. How much money does that save? A few cents?”

“Doesn’t the Jiang family villa have a swimming pool? If she’s in charge of refilling it, how many years would that take to fill?”

Zhuang Feixue smiled helplessly, “That’s not how it works. She’s still an ability-user. I heard the Jiang family is looking for people to collect Witch Stones.”

Zhuang Cheng frowned, “Witch Stone? That’s not easy!”

Zhuang Feixue nodded, “Exactly. One Witch Stone costs tens of millions. The government has a quota, but competition is fierce. Still, since Jiang Yuening has a rare element, she might get prioritized support.”

Zhuang Cheng rolled his eyes, “She can only release a bucket of water at a time. Even if she upgrades to a bathtub’s worth, it’s still not much. The government keeps preaching about saving water, but I doubt they care about that small a difference.”

Zhuang Feixue: “I think they want to train her for other uses. If she could shoot water jets, that would be impressive…”

Zhuang Cheng thought to himself: Even if she can shoot water jets, who knows how many Witch Stones that would cost? And to match the power of a revolver or Desert Eagle — not easy.

Who knows how strong Second Brother’s base power is? To cut through a car like slicing tofu — that must’ve taken a fortune to achieve.

“Sis, you really plan to go?”

Zhuang Feixue nodded, “Yes.”

Zhuang Cheng asked in confusion, “Are you that close with Jiang Yuening?”

Zhuang Feixue shook her head, “Not really. I’m going to see Jiang Yan.”

Jiang Yan and Jiang Yuening were twin sisters, born the same year and month, so Yuening’s birthday was also Jiang Yan’s. But Yuening had always outshone Jiang Yan — and now with her awakened ability, no one paid attention to Jiang Yan anymore.

Zhuang Cheng nodded, “Oh right, I forgot you and Jiang Yan are besties!”

Zhuang Feixue and Jiang Yan had been college classmates. They often shopped and ate out together. After graduation, Zhuang Feixue went into showbiz while Jiang Yan went abroad to study, and their contact gradually faded.

Zhuang Feixue took a deep breath and said, “The Jiang family invited Illya, saying that since they’re both ability-users, they could exchange insights.”

Zhuang Cheng rolled his eyes and said, “How is that even comparable? Illya is an A-rank ability-user, with unpredictable powers. Jiang Yuening just splashes some water around—at best she’s an E-rank. Do you think the Jiang family is trying to poach Second Brother?”

Zhuang Feixue glanced at Zhuang Cheng. “You really think they’re trying to poach him?”

Zhuang Cheng nodded. “It’s possible! Sister Feixue, haven’t you seen what people are saying online?”

Zhuang Feixue frowned. “Too much negativity online, I don’t really look at that stuff.”

Ever since her debut, Zhuang Feixue had been constantly plagued by scandals online. At first, she was embarrassed by them, but eventually she came to accept it. She figured walking the “infamous yet popular” path wasn’t so bad.

“There are a lot of people online teaming up trying to break up Second Brother and Illya. Fans have even formed a group to strategize how to split them up,” Zhuang Cheng said seriously.

Zhuang Feixue: “……” There’s a whole group for that?

“How many people are in this group?”

Zhuang Cheng blinked. “One group filled up to 2,000 people in under two hours. Then they opened several more.”

Zhuang Feixue widened her eyes in shock. She had seen fan groups before—even snuck into her own fan group with a burner account—but this was her first time hearing of a group specifically created to sabotage a CP (couple pairing).

“So… have they come up with any plans?” she asked.

Zhuang Cheng shrugged. “A bunch of them wanted to send a beautiful female fan to seduce Illya, but it caused a huge argument. Everyone thought no one was good enough. Then someone suggested sending a group of handsome guys and pretty girls to go after Second Brother instead. But that got shot down too. Someone said, ‘Now that he has Illya, who else could even catch his eye?’”

Zhuang Feixue tilted her head. “So… they still haven’t figured out a strategy?”

Zhuang Cheng nodded. “More or less.”

Zhuang Feixue shook her head. Too many people just lead to chaos and disagreement.

Zhuang Cheng also shook his head. “That group’s just a bunch of rabble—nothing will come of it.”

Zhuang Feixue chuckled. “You have a lot of faith in your second brother.”

Zhuang Cheng smiled. “Of course.” Outsiders may not know Second Brother well, but he did.
