Chapter 143: Police Inquiry
The pizza Manning ordered was delivered quickly. Zhuang Cheng wolfed it down as if venting all his frustration—he chewed with anger in every bite.
Chu Feng looked at Zhuang Cheng in confusion and said, “That pizza cost fifty bucks each, and you’re still eating like that?”
Zhuang Cheng glanced at Chu Feng and said, “Why wouldn’t I?”
Chu Feng crossed his arms and said, “Aren’t you a rich young master? I thought you only ate five-hundred-dollar pizzas.”
Zhuang Cheng puffed out his cheeks and ignored Chu Feng. He hadn’t eaten anything in two days since he was kidnapped and was starving. But he didn’t want to admit that to Chu Feng.
“Fine, just hurry up and eat. Once you’re done, I’ll send you back to the capital.”
Zhuang Cheng looked at Chu Feng, a bit excited, and asked, “You mean like just now? Instantly swoosh to the capital?”
Chu Feng nodded, “More or less.”
Zhuang Cheng asked curiously, “Your ability… besides slicing things, you can also teleport?”
Chu Feng folded his arms and said, “Yeah.”
“Amazing!”
Chu Feng nodded, “Mm. Saves a ton on travel costs.”
Zhuang Cheng: “…” How stingy is Chu Feng?! He has such an incredible power, and all he thinks about is saving on travel. Why does such a powerful ability belong to this kind of guy?
“Bro, how did you awaken your ability? Can you teach me?”
Chu Feng thought to himself: This guy really knows when to bend and when to stand tall…
He said aloud, “Do you know what I used to do?”
Zhuang Cheng hesitated a moment, “Delivery guy?”
Chu Feng nodded, “Yep. Spatial teleportation saves a lot of time, so I became an ability-users that way.”
Zhuang Cheng: “…” So if he wants to awaken an ability, does he need to go into delivery too?
Chu Feng waved his hand, “I’m just kidding. There are tons of delivery drivers across the country, and I’m the only one who has teleportation ability. Clearly, I’m chosen by fate.”
Zhuang Cheng rolled his eyes, “Stop bragging. Tons of people in the country have abilities.”
Chu Feng nodded, “Right, right. You’re totally correct. Are you done eating? I’ll send you off.”
Zhuang Cheng said angrily, “Why are you in such a rush?”
Chu Feng took a deep breath and said, “How can I not be? If you picked up a huge burden like this, wouldn’t you want to get rid of it fast?”
Zhuang Cheng, a bit annoyed, said, “I’m a burden?”
Chu Feng nodded, “Of course. You have no idea how much trouble you are.”
He put his hands on his hips and sighed. He’s also a young master of the Zhuang family, even though he hasn’t officially returned to the family.
After Zhuang Cheng was kidnapped, a bunch of brainless Sherlocks online speculated that it was Chu Feng’s doing. If Zhuang Cheng died, the second branch of the Zhuang family would only have Chu Feng left as a male heir—making him the legitimate successor.
Chu Feng had read a lot of these online theories and thought: If I really had kidnapped Zhuang Cheng, it would actually make a lot of sense…
They teleported into a house in the capital.
“This is the place?” Chu Feng asked.
Zhuang Cheng nodded, “Yep.”
Chu Feng looked around and said, “Doesn’t seem that impressive.”
It didn’t look much better than his own villa.
Zhuang Cheng frowned, “What do you know? This is a house in the capital. Land here is insanely expensive—same house here costs ten times more than in a small town.”
Chu Feng nodded, “Still just a place to live.”
Suddenly, a rustling sound came from upstairs. Illya grabbed Chu Feng’s arm, and the two vanished.
Zhuang Cheng had already seen Chu Feng use his ability before, but seeing two living people suddenly disappear still surprised him.
He assumed Illya and Chu Feng could turn invisible, but now he wasn’t sure if they went invisible or teleported away.
“Xiao Cheng!”
Su Manqing saw Zhuang Cheng and was full of surprise.
“Xiao Cheng, you’re back! How did you get back?” Su Manqing rushed over, full of emotion.
Zhuang Cheng frowned and said, “Met a hero. He brought me back.”
Su Manqing, a bit surprised, said, “You met a good person? That’s great, really great!”
“Mom, you’re thinking too simply. The guy wants fifty million yen, unmarked, delivered to a specific location within three days,” Zhuang Cheng replied.
Su Manqing nodded and said “Oh,” quite casually, “As long as you’re safe, money’s not a problem.”
Zhuang Cheng noticed that after she said that, the breathing in the room grew heavier—it was subtle, easy to miss if you weren’t paying attention.
Sure enough, he thought, someone is still here, just hiding.
Su Manqing muttered, “Seems like we were robbed. The safe was pried open, and your room was searched multiple times.”
Zhuang Cheng wasn’t surprised. “Probably the people who kidnapped me.”
“You’re hurt! I’ll call the doctor.” Su Manqing said anxiously.
The Zhuang family had a private family doctor who could be called with just one phone call.
“No need,” Zhuang Cheng said. Illya had already treated him. He’d sprinkled some special medicine on his wound after bandaging him, and it seemed to work well—the pain had already eased, and the wound was scabbing.
Zhuang Cheng remembered the beauty and virility elixirs Chu Feng sold and wondered if they knew some miracle doctor.
“Mom, call Dad and tell him I’m back. No need to keep looking for someone to save me.”
Su Manqing nodded and went to make the call.
Zhuang Cheng walked into his room and saw Illya sitting on the bed, playing with a stone.
Zhuang Cheng looked at her and asked, “You—”
Illya turned to him and said, “So you put the stone in the fish tank in the main hall.”
There was a large fish tank in the villa, with various decorative stones and some fish swimming around. Zhuang Cheng frowned and said, “What kind of stone is this?”
Illya said calmly, “Witch Stone.”
Chu Feng glanced at Zhuang Cheng and said, “With this stone here, let’s call it even at fifty million. You’re getting a bargain.”
Zhuang Cheng narrowed his eyes. “This stone should be worth more than fifty million, right?”
“That depends on who you’re asking,” Chu Feng replied.
Chu Feng tossed a stone to Zhuang Cheng. “Here, take this. Consider it an exchange. As your elder brother, I can’t let you take a loss.”
Zhuang Cheng said angrily, “You took my witch stone and now you’re giving me a random rock from the roadside in return?”
Chu Feng rolled his eyes. “You really don’t know quality! That’s not just some roadside rock — it’s a raw jade stone. There’s a chance it could contain Imperial Green.”
Zhuang Cheng rolled his eyes. “What nonsense are you spouting?” Imperial Green isn’t something you just find on a whim.
Illya glanced at Chu Feng and said, “Let’s go.”
Chu Feng nodded. “Alright.”
He took Illya’s hand, and the two disappeared from the room. Zhuang Cheng looked at the now-empty space and grumbled, “What the hell? Just like that, they left?”
He walked around the house once and, realizing they had truly gone, felt a bit disappointed.
A knock came at the door. Su Manqing walked in, looking puzzled. “Who were you talking to?”
Zhuang Cheng furrowed his brows. “No… no one.”
He pressed his lips together. Chu Feng probably didn’t want his family to know about his abilities, so he didn’t say anything.
The Zhuang family had mobilized a lot of connections to search for Zhuang Cheng, but in the end, he came back on his own — much to their surprise.
“Young Master Zhuang, how did you get back?” a female officer asked, holding a notepad, making Zhuang Cheng feel a bit uneasy.
Frowning, Zhuang Cheng replied, “I don’t know either. I just somehow ended up back. Is there a problem?”
“Well, here’s the thing,” the officer said. “We discovered a large amount of blood in Jiangxi, some of it from multiple people who appear to be grave robbers. There was also your blood, Young Master Zhuang.”
Zhuang Cheng nodded. “Is that so?”
The journey from Jiangxi to the capital was long. Zhuang Cheng squinted and thought, The timeline doesn’t add up. Even if someone had rescued him, there’s no way he’d be back so quickly under normal circumstances.
He smiled and said, “I passed out. I really don’t remember what happened.”
The officers exchanged glances. “We’ll take our leave, then. If you remember anything, please contact us.”
Zhuang Cheng nodded. “Of course.”
Chu Feng did warn me, he thought, that if I blab, he’ll cut me up. He probably wasn’t serious… probably.
After the officers left, Zhuang Feixue couldn’t help asking, “Xiao Cheng, how did you escape? Earlier, Mom got word that your blood was found in an abandoned factory. She fainted on the spot. When you got away, you should’ve called us!”
Zhuang Cheng: “…” He wanted to call, alright? But Chu Feng ignored him!
Not that he blamed Chu Feng — one phone call would’ve let others track his location instantly. He had stayed in Chu Feng’s villa for a while. If someone found out he was there, things would’ve gotten very messy.
“I blacked out. I really don’t know what happened afterward,” Zhuang Cheng said.
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “I see. You really went through hell this time.”
Zhuang Cheng nodded. “Yeah.” The appearance of ability-users had driven many people to madness.
After the officers left the villa, they began discussing, “This Young Master Zhuang is definitely hiding something.”
“Maybe the Zhuang family struck some deal with the kidnappers to get him back.”
“There was so much blood in that factory — someone must’ve died. And from the look of it, probably more than one person. But the strange part is, there were no bodies, not even ashes. That’s just too weird.”
“It used to be weird, but given the current times, maybe not so much.”
“You mean… an ability-user got involved?”
“The Zhuang family is rich enough to hire ability-users. Not too surprising.”
“Yeah, while ability-users are powerful, money talks.”
“Since ability-users emerged, maintaining public order has become harder and harder.”
“Many ability-users have strange abilities. Strength and speed are manageable, but those mind control or swap-type powers… they’re impossible to guard against!”
“Recently, there’ve been frequent cases where wealthy people transfer huge amounts of money to complete strangers. Turns out, they may have been influenced by some kind of bewitching ability — they unconsciously follow the other party’s instructions. The suspects haven’t been caught yet, and the police are under a lot of pressure.”
“We’re still doing okay. Over in M Country, they’ve got a fire-type ability-user going around killing and setting fires.”
“Fire abilities are among the most destructive. Thankfully, there aren’t many people ability-users yet. That guy in M Country was originally a murderer. After awakening his power, he escaped prison and declared himself the ‘Fire God,’ killing and burning everywhere.”
“Apparently, he’s gained a lot of followers — even established a cult called the ‘Church of the Fire God,’ which already has tens of thousands of members.”
