Chapter 141: Zhuang Cheng Is Kidnapped
In the castle district.
Chu Feng sat near a rocky mountain, took a sip of Hundred-Fruit Brew, and loosened up his limbs. The brew had a strong kick. Before, he could only drink a little; now, he could finish a whole jar a day.
With a casual swipe of his hand, Chu Feng sliced a deep gash into the stone wall, sending chunks of rock flying. He curled his lips into a smile—pleased.
Ever since he discovered he could use Spatial Slash, he had been training this ability. At first, he could barely break a cup with it. But recently, his control had improved dramatically.
Now, he could easily cleave through a slab of stone the size of a millstone.
By his estimate, with his current strength, splitting open a human skull would be just as effortless.
Shi You watched Chu Feng from a distance, a bit admiringly, and said, “Boss’s abilities are getting stronger and stronger.”
Chui Shi nodded in agreement. “Indeed.”
Although Chui Shi had a lot of respect for Chu Feng, he had sometimes secretly mocked Chu Feng as just a pretty boy—weak and delicate. But after seeing Chu Feng’s stone-splitting ability, Chui Shi didn’t dare think that way anymore.
If Chu Feng’s wind blades continued to grow stronger, soon his ability to split stone would rival that of Chui Shi’s younger brother.
Shi You asked in confusion, “I wonder how the boss’s strength improved so fast.”
Using one’s ability frequently can slowly improve it—Shi You had been training consistently—but compared to Chu Feng, his own progress was practically nothing.
Illya flew over to Chu Feng, carried by the gray mist, and said, “Your strength has improved rapidly!”
The elixirs, spirit wine, and the Witch Stones from the real world used in combination had caused Chu Feng’s powers to skyrocket. Unfortunately, all the Witch Stones he’d found recently had already been completely absorbed.
Chu Feng thought to himself: I need to find more spirit stones to cultivate… but the world’s so big, and these things seem hard to come by. Things had been peaceful with Chu Anzhi lately, no incidents. Every time Anzhi had misfortune, Chu Feng always ended up with a witch stone. If Anzhi could just have another stroke of bad luck, that’d be great…
“Are you thinking about something good? You seem happy,” Illya asked.
“Not exactly anything good.”
Chu Feng blinked guiltily. He felt like hoping for Chu Anzhi to get into trouble was a bit… unethical.
Chu Feng took Illya and returned to the modern world.
Not long after, Chu Feng received a call from Chu Anzhi.
Seeing Anzhi’s name on the screen, Chu Feng was quite pleased, wondering if Anzhi had gotten into trouble again.
“Brother Feng, you finally answered.”
“What is it?” Chu Feng asked.
“Have you heard about the bounty?”
“Bounty?” Chu Feng asked, confused. “What bounty?”
“It’s about Zhuang Cheng. He’s gone missing. He’s the young master of the Yangfan Group, right? The people who came to see you last time were from that group. Yangfan Group is offering a 50 million reward.”
Chu Feng furrowed his brows and said, “I heard about it yesterday. Seems it might be related to some ability users. Yangfan Group is hiring ability users for a rescue operation. It’s a tough case. A lot of ability users are coming forward, but I haven’t heard of any who are particularly good at finding people.”
He searched online on his phone and found that the Yangfan Group bounty was trending, currently ranked first.
Illya tilted her head and said, “Zhuang Cheng’s missing? Did he elope with someone?”
Chu Feng looked down and thought: All the shows Illya’s been watching lately are about elopement… she’s getting influenced.
“No, Zhuang Cheng was probably kidnapped,” Chu Feng said.
Illya nodded. “Is that so? Then… are we going to save him?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah, let’s help.”
Although he didn’t have a particularly close relationship with his younger brother by marriage, standing by and doing nothing in a life-or-death situation felt wrong.
Chu Anzhi suspected ability users were involved, and it probably wasn’t a baseless guess.
If that was really the case, then maybe Chu Feng could take the opportunity to find more Witch Stones.
Chu Feng glanced at Illya and said, “We probably need to go back to that world again. No one knows where Zhuang Cheng’s been taken. We’ll need to use Manning’s power to track him.”
“Wonder how things are at the Zhuang household,” someone asked.
Chu Feng narrowed his eyes. “Probably in chaos by now.”
Illya reached out, grabbed Chu Feng’s hand, and transferred spiritual energy. The two of them returned to the other world.
Just as Chu Feng expected, the Zhuang family was indeed in chaos.
Su Manqing hadn’t anticipated this and was sitting on the sofa crying non-stop.
“Aunt, please stop crying. Little Cheng’s already missing. Crying won’t help,” said Zhuang Ming, a little darkly, though there was a hint of schadenfreude in her heart.
Su Manqing pressed her lips together and didn’t speak.
“Zhuang Ming, can’t you say a few less words?” someone scolded.
Zhuang Ming sneered, “And who are you to tell me what to say? You’re just a fake. Now that Little Cheng’s gone, you must be happy, huh? One less rival. Too bad! A fake is still a fake. No matter how many tricks you pull, the Zhuang family isn’t something a counterfeit like you can covet.”
Zhuang Feilei’s face flushed red. “Zhuang Ming, what nonsense are you spouting?”
“Is it not true? If I were you, I would’ve handed over my shares and left the Zhuang family a long time ago. You sure are thick-skinned!”
Zhuang Feilei lowered her head and didn’t reply.
Su Manqing wearily said, “Zhuang Ming, just go home for now.”
Zhuang Cheng’s disappearance had made her anxious and distraught, and the chaos at home only added to her distress.
Zhuang Ming muttered, “Aunt, Little Cheng is missing. How can I just go home and feel at ease?”
Father Zhuang walked in. Upon seeing him, Su Manqing immediately stood up. “Any news?”
Father Zhuang shook his head. “The police still haven’t found anything. It could be the work of ability users. I’ve already asked the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities for help.”
Su Manqing became agitated. “Why would ability users target Little Cheng? He’s not one of them.”
Father Zhuang’s face darkened. “It might be related to those things he bought at the temple fair.”
He frowned. Previously, Zhuang Cheng had bought a bunch of antiques at a temple fair, spending over 800,000 yuan. After consulting with several experts, it turned out that many of them were likely burial goods. It seemed his son had bought something he shouldn’t have, and that’s what got him taken.
In another room, Gray sat cross-legged. When he saw the two return, he jumped in surprise.
“Didn’t you leave already? Why are you back? Forgot something?” Gray asked.
Chu Feng nodded. “Sort of. Forgot a person.”
Gray shook his head. “Brother Feng, you’re a big shot, everyone’s role model. Being so forgetful isn’t a good look!”
Chu Feng: When did I become a role model? That’s a bit embarrassing…
Chu Feng quickly found Manning and explained the situation about returning to the modern world. Manning was very excited and agreed immediately.
Having gone on a mission once already, this second trip felt much easier. Practice makes perfect.
Following the same method as before, Chu Feng and Illya brought Manning to the modern world.
Last time Manning came over, he had terrible motion sickness, but this time he was in good shape.
Chu Feng looked at Manning, a bit concerned. “You okay?”
Manning nodded and said, “I’m fine. Don’t worry, boss.”
After his last return, Manning’s body had been somewhat weakened. The shamans had prepared a lot of medicine for him, and after a period of recuperation, his health had actually improved quite a bit.
Illya’s strength had also been steadily improving lately, and the protection he could provide Manning was now much more comprehensive. As a result, Manning was less affected this time than the last.
Chu Feng nodded and said, “Then let’s begin.”
Originally, he should’ve let them rest for a bit, but saving lives was a race against time—they couldn’t afford to wait.
Illya took Manning’s hand and transmitted his ability over.
The green lines radiating from Chu Feng’s head were fully absorbed into Manning’s vision.
“How is it?” Chu Feng asked.
Manning frowned and said, “It should be to the west.”
Chu Feng nodded again. “Let’s go.”
Chu Feng took the two of them and teleported several times, gradually approaching the destination.
Standing on the rooftop of an abandoned factory, Chu Feng looked down and asked, “Is it below?”
Manning nodded. “Yes.”
Chu Feng frowned. “Why pick a place like this? No taste at all.”
The location they found was originally an abandoned chemical factory. The plant was extremely rundown, with crumbling walls and rusted iron window bars. The air was thick with the smell of chemicals.
“Let’s get this over with quickly and leave,” Illya said. His sense of smell was sharp, and he was clearly suffering here.
Chu Feng nodded. “Alright.”
Chu Feng looked at Manning and said, “Be careful. We’ll go in first.”
Manning nodded. “Don’t worry, boss.”
Illya led Chu Feng, entering the second floor of the abandoned factory while concealed.
Zhuang Cheng was tied to a cement pillar on the side. He had several wounds on his body and looked miserable.
“Speak! Where did the stone go?” a burly man said impatiently, pressing Zhuang Cheng for answers.
Zhuang Cheng glared viciously at him and spat in his face. Chu Feng, watching from within the mist, frowned and thought, My little brother really has no manners… just spitting around like that.
He then thought to himself, A stone? What kind of stone could be worth this much trouble? Kidnapping the heir of a wealthy family… Could it be a spirit stone?
Illya leaned in close to Chu Feng and said, “That man is an ability-user. Likely a strength-type.”
Chu Feng narrowed his eyes. “So he is an ability-user. If a stone can tempt people like that, it’s most likely a Witch Stone.”
Just then, a skinny man fiddling with some equipment suddenly shouted, “Boss, something’s wrong! The device shows an ability-user is nearby—wait!”
Chu Feng furrowed his brow and thought, Devices are this advanced now? They can detect ability users? That means hiding is no longer possible.
“Where?” the dark-faced man demanded.
The skinny man stared at the device in shock. “Right here! Right here—right here!”
“There’s no one there!” the burly man snapped, irritated.
The skinny man pointed straight in Chu Feng’s direction. “Right there!”
With their cover blown, Chu Feng decided to strike first.
A spatial blade flew toward them. The burly man dodged swiftly.
“Damn it! An invisibility-type ability user!”
The man’s face darkened as he threw out several talisman papers in Chu Feng’s direction.
The talismans hit Illya’s gray mist, sizzling with sharp noise.
Illya’s invisibility was broken instantly, and both his and Chu Feng’s figures became visible.
Zhuang Cheng stared at Chu Feng in shock, eyes wide.
Realizing they had been exposed, Chu Feng frowned deeply.
“It’s you?! You’re an ability user?!”
The burly man had done his research on the Zhuang family, including Chu Feng, but hadn’t paid him much attention. He never expected him to appear here.
Chu Feng thought regretfully, Too careless. If I knew we’d be exposed, I would’ve worn a mask or something…
Not wasting words, Chu Feng summoned another spatial blade and slashed forward.
The burly man dodged nimbly. His movements were quick, but not quicker than Chu Feng’s spatial blades.
After a few dodges, one spatial blade finally struck—severing the man’s arm.
This was Chu Feng’s first time using a spatial blade in combat, and he was a bit unskilled.
After slicing through the arm, the next two blades came right after—one cutting the man’s neck, spraying blood everywhere.
Zhuang Cheng watched in stunned silence as the man was sliced in two before his eyes, hot blood splashing all over him.
“Senior Brother…” one of the others called out in panic at the sight of the burly man’s death.
Illya raised his hand and began firing rapidly. Unlike Chu Feng, his aim was perfect—every shot hit.
Illya knew Chu Feng preferred to keep a low profile and didn’t like exposing his identity. Since these men had seen their faces, the best solution was to kill them all to prevent future trouble.
Illya lowered his hand. “All done.”
Zhuang Cheng stared at Illya in horror. “You… you… you killed them!”
Illya glanced coolly at him and barked, “Shut up! Was that talisman paper just now?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Probably.”
Illya tilted his head. “I can’t believe people here have stuff like that. Amazing.”
Zhuang Cheng looked at Illya and thought, You’re already amazing, and you’re surprised by talismans?
Illya curiously searched through the men’s backpacks and found some items.
Chu Feng nodded. “Take them all. We’ll study them later.”
Illya nodded. “Okay.”
Zhuang Cheng: You’re so busy killing people and checking loot… Can someone untie me already?!
Chu Feng looked at him and said, “You take him out. I’ll handle the bodies.”
Illya nodded. “Alright.”
He glanced at Chu Feng and roughly understood what he meant by “handling the bodies.”
Exposing the invisibility power wasn’t a big deal—but revealing his ability to cross into other worlds was absolutely forbidden.
Illya walked over to Zhuang Cheng and rather roughly dragged him out.
Chu Feng gathered the corpses together and teleported them to the other world. He figured it was best to dispose of them as thoroughly as possible there.
Zhuang Cheng followed Illya out of the warehouse and took a long while to calm down. Illya leaned against a wall, kicking pebbles around, bored.
Zhuang Cheng looked at Illya and felt that he resembled an innocent and pure schoolboy untouched by the world. But then he remembered how this same Illya had just calmly taken out several living people without batting an eye. The contrast struck Zhuang Cheng as oddly jarring.
“Thank you for saving me. But… why did you guys come for me?”
Illya turned his head and looked at Zhuang Cheng with intense seriousness. “Because your dad put out a 50 million reward.”
Zhuang Cheng: “…For money? So if the old man hadn’t offered the bounty, you would’ve just left me to die?”
“For 50 million?” Zhuang Cheng said, his face twisting.
Illya nodded. “You can buy a lot with 50 million.”
Though selling elixirs made money fast, who would ever complain about having too much cash? With money, there were all sorts of things on Taobao he used to hesitate over—now he could finally get them.
Zhuang Cheng muttered awkwardly, “But you’re my brother-in-law… Isn’t this a bit cold, putting a price on it?”
“Even between blood brothers, the accounts should be settled clearly. Don’t forget to give me that money,” Illya replied.
Zhuang Cheng: …
Frowning slightly, he asked, “How did you guys even find me?”
Illya muttered, “Why are you asking so many questions?”
“I’m just curious!” Zhuang Cheng said with a hint of grievance.
Illya turned away and ignored him. Zhuang Cheng, seeing that he was being snubbed, couldn’t help feeling a little deflated.
