Chapter 51: Maomao – You’re Such a Dog!
Could this be their second dog?
Did they have a large one at home too?
“Maomao’s daddy, your puppy is all clean now. These two brushes are complimentary. You can brush his fur regularly to prevent tangles,” the groomer explained warmly.
Newly promoted to the role of father, Cen Miao accepted the brushes with a strong sense of responsibility and nodded vigorously.
“Thank you! I’ll brush his fur!”
Qin Zelin looked at Maomao after his premium bath and grooming treatment.
The filthy little ugly dog had transformed into…
…a little ugly dog.
After scheduling an appointment for Maomao’s vaccinations, Qin Zelin left the pet shop with Cen Miao.
Inside the car, Qin Zelin replied to the WeChat messages Shao Siheng had sent earlier.
[Shao Siheng] How did it go? Nothing serious happened, right?
[Shao Siheng] Meng Yu said you ran into some incredible freak who threatened to sue you into the ground?
[Qin Zelin] Nothing happened. Cen Miao was just frightened and became especially clingy.
[Shao Siheng] Where did that freak come from? Hahahahaha! Your legal department is infamous throughout the industry. Even a mosquito would have to surrender two drops of blood before leaving, yet he wants to challenge them?
[Qin Zelin] The moment I arrived at the police station, he insisted that I carry him. Later, when I told him to wait in the car first, he refused.
[Shao Siheng] …
[Shao Siheng] Oh.
[Qin Zelin] He kept saying he wanted hugs and that he liked being held.
[Shao Siheng] Oh. [Yellow Bean Smile.jpg]
[Qin Zelin] He already loved clinging to me before. Now that he’s been frightened, he’s even clingier.
[Shao Siheng] Is that so? [Yellow Bean Smile.jpg]
[Qin Zelin] I’m worried it’ll be difficult for him to pull away in the future. What if he becomes so heartbroken that his PTSD relapses after recovering?
[Shao Siheng] That sounds very serious.
[Qin Zelin] Sigh.
Cen Miao held Maomao in his arms, his head resting against Qin Zelin’s shoulder.
Remembering the strange things the bad human had said, he looked up.
“Hubby, that bad human today was very strange.”
Qin Zelin put away his phone and lowered his eyes toward the head on his shoulder.
“Mm? What was strange?”
“He said I had to compensate him. I said I could compensate him, but then he said he didn’t want me to compensate him—he wanted me to accompany him.”
Cen Miao frowned, looking deeply troubled.
“Did he want compensation from me or not?”
The more Qin Zelin listened, the darker his expression became.
The little monster had cognitive impairment and hadn’t understood what the man meant at all, but Qin Zelin could roughly guess.
The compensate Cen Miao understood and the accompany that bastard meant were two entirely different things.
“You don’t need to compensate him.”
Qin Zelin reached out and removed a dog hair from Cen Miao’s face.
“If anyone talks to you about compensation or accompanying them again, ask me first. Understand?”
“Mm, I understand!”
“Also, do you have any idea how dangerous it was to rush out like that today? What if that man hadn’t stepped on the brakes? Were you trying to turn yourself into a meat pancake?” Qin Zelin asked sternly.
“You’re never allowed to do that again. Otherwise, you won’t be riding your electric scooter anymore either.”
“I understand, Hubby.”
“What happened to your phone? Didn’t I charge it for you last night?” Qin Zelin asked.
“It broke when I fell.”
Cen Miao searched through the pockets of his down jacket and pulled out the shattered phone.
“Mm. Throw it away. We’ll buy a new one tomorrow.”
Qin Zelin took it and examined it. It could no longer be switched on at all.
“Okay.”
The car had barely stopped in the villa courtyard when Butler Lin hurried out of the house.
Only after seeing the two of them return together did he finally relax.
“Oh my, it seems the family has gained another new member,” Butler Lin said cheerfully, looking at the tiny puppy in Cen Miao’s arms.
When the two entered, Aunt Wang brought out the pork rib and corn soup and steamed coral trout she had been keeping warm. Then she quickly stir-fried two vegetable dishes.
After dinner, because of the unexpected incident, Cen Miao was finally spared from the torture of English that evening and temporarily regained his freedom.
In the living room, Qin Zelin’s temples throbbed when he saw Cen Miao preparing to carry the dog upstairs.
“You can keep it, but it absolutely cannot enter the bedroom.”
“Maomao can stay inside the house. I want to sleep while holding Maomao,” Cen Miao insisted, clutching the dog.
“Impossible.”
Qin Zelin pointed at the puppy in his arms, his tone leaving no room for argument.
“It is absolutely not getting on the bed.”
“But I’ve always slept while holding Maomao!” Cen Miao protested urgently when Qin Zelin refused.
Hearing the obvious lie, Qin Zelin was so angry he almost laughed.
“Cen Miaomiao, you only picked up this dog today. Where exactly were you holding it while sleeping before?”
Cen Miao grew increasingly anxious. Aggrieved tears gathered in his eyes, and his voice trembled with a sob.
“I want to sleep while holding Maomao.”
Qin Zelin: “…”
A tear fell with a soft plop.
Qin Zelin: “…”
He released a long sigh.
“The dog bed can be placed in the bedroom, but it cannot get on the bed.”
Cen Miao pouted pitifully.
“Okay.”
“Mm. Take it back to the room first, but don’t let it onto the bed. I have an online meeting that’s already starting.”
Cen Miao nodded.
“Okay.”
Inside the third-floor bedroom, Cen Miao wiped away his tears.
Looking at Maomao happily running around on the floor, he sat on the carpet and opened the large bag containing the dog treats.
He opened a bag of cheese mini buns and fed one to Maomao.
Then he hugged the bag and began eating them himself.
Delicious!!!
They were crispy and crunchy, with a rich milky flavor!
“Woof, woof, woof.”
Cen Miao: “…?”
“The big sister at the pet shop said puppies can’t eat too many treats, or they’ll become picky.”
“Woof, woof, woof.”
Maomao stepped forward and scratched Cen Miao’s knee twice with one little paw.
When Cen Miao ignored him and continued eating, he barked several more times.
Cen Miao, chewing: “You can’t eat too many treats.”
Maomao tilted his head. His black-bean eyes stared at Cen Miao while his tongue repeatedly licked his nose.
“?”
After eating nearly half the bag, Cen Miao contentedly resealed it and returned it to the larger bag.
He searched through the treats, opened a cheese lollipop, and ate it.
Maomao sniffed the air, licking his nose while jumping up and trying to paw at Cen Miao’s arm.
“Woof, woof, woof!”
Cen Miao, chewing: “If you eat too many treats, you’ll become picky.”
More than twenty minutes later, Cen Miao had sampled every snack in the large bag and reached a conclusion.
Dog food was too hard and didn’t taste good.
The milky mini-bun cookies were the best.
He needed to buy several more bags next time.
Inside the study, Qin Zelin became distracted during a meeting for the first time in a long while.
Remembering the little monster’s tear-reddened eyes, he felt vaguely unsettled.
The little monster only wanted to sleep with the puppy because he liked it so much.
Had Qin Zelin’s tone been a little too harsh earlier?
Could he still be crying inside the bedroom?
“President Qin.”
“President Qin?”
Qin Zelin looked toward the screen.
“Mm? Very good. Continue.”
The executive on the other side of the ocean, who had already finished his entire report: “?”
But Qin Zelin had already compromised and allowed the dog into the bedroom.
“President Qin?” the person on the screen cautiously called again.
“Mm. We’ll end here for today.”
The executive: “?”
After ending the video conference, Qin Zelin stood and returned to the bedroom.
He opened the door, looked at Cen Miao beside the sofa, and nearly blacked out.
