Reborn in the Apocalypse: I Decide to Cling to My Roommate’s Thigh – CH30

Chapter 30

Ye Xuan was the kind of “young master” whose fingers had never touched spring water.

Killing fish? What a joke. He had no idea how.

But!

For the sake of face, he could not say he did not know.

Ye Xuan assured Xia Chenxi, “Just leave it to me.”

Ye Xuan acted as if he were very experienced, and Xia Chenxi felt reassured. After all, he was right beside him, wasn’t he?

He very quickly regretted this decision. He should have chased this idiot out at the first opportunity.

Ye Xuan grabbed the crucian carp, but the fish was slippery as hell. It slipped through his fingers, bounced into Xia Chenxi’s pot, then bounced back out of the pot and knocked over all the sauces placed aside. The sauces spilled across the counter and flowed onto the floor.

As fate would have it, the fish then fell from the counter and landed right in that puddle, splashing everywhere.

Ye Xuan watched helplessly as sauce splashed onto Xia Chenxi’s pant leg. Thankfully, the pants were black, so it did not show.

“I’ll catch it back. Really.”

The last two words were something Ye Xuan said to himself. In truth, he had no confidence at all.

A crucian carp was darting back and forth beside Xia Chenxi’s feet like a loach. Was that reasonable?

This fish had mutated too, right?

Ye Xuan half-crouched down, found the right timing, and suddenly reached out.

Caught it!

Ye Xuan’s smile did not even last one second before the fish broke free from his hand, slapped him hard across the face with its tail, then jumped into the puddle of sauce on the floor, splashing his entire face. Ye Xuan tasted an indescribably strange flavor.

Damn it.

Xia Chenxi lifted his foot and stomped down hard, crushing the fish to death. This farce finally came to an end.

Ye Xuan slowly raised his head and met Xia Chenxi’s eyes. The emotions in his eyes were very complicated—speechlessness, restraint, and a trace of shyness.

What was he being shy about?

Ye Xuan lowered his head and realized something.

He, he, he—he was actually crouching between Xia Chenxi’s legs.

Enough. Truly enough. He had already embarrassed himself enough today.

Ye Xuan retreated bit by bit, backing out of the kitchen. If he could, he wanted to retreat into the cracks of the floor and disappear right there.

Xia Chenxi silently closed the kitchen door and covered his own face. His reddened ears exposed his far from calm thoughts.

He really should not have let Ye Xuan into the kitchen just now.

Xia Chenxi covered his face and calmed himself for a while, then cleaned up the kitchen and prepared dinner.

Ye Xuan crouched on the floor for a while. Feeling that it was truly too embarrassing, he ran back to his room, took a shower, and changed into clean clothes.

When he came out, Xia Chenxi was still busy in the kitchen, and the kitchen door was still firmly shut.

Ye Xuan curled up on the sofa, feeling extremely bored. He opened his wristband and browsed the base’s evening bulletin.

[Team 2A successfully completed its mission. One newcomer performed outstandingly, clearing more than a hundred zombies alone.]

Ye Xuan tapped in and scrolled down.

That team member had not only discovered multiple supply points, but had also keenly detected a midnight zombie raid, reducing the team’s losses to the minimum.

At the end, Ye Xuan finally saw the name of this outstanding team member.

Xia Chenxi.

Ye Xuan looked toward the kitchen. It was hard to connect the killing god who slaughtered everything on the battlefield with the good domestic man washing his hands to make soup in the kitchen.

Just then, the door opened.

Their gazes collided.

Xia Chenxi hung the apron aside and asked, “What’s with that expression?”

Ye Xuan closed his open mouth.

“I just feel very lucky. Such a strong team member is in the same dorm as me.”

Caught off guard by Ye Xuan’s praise, Xia Chenxi turned his back and walked toward his room.

“Go bring the food out from the kitchen. Eat first. Don’t wait for me. I’m going to wash up.”

After walking back to his room, Xia Chenxi closed the door and leaned against it, covering his face with both hands. His face was burning unusually hot. Had Ye Xuan taken the wrong medicine today?

Ye Xuan, sitting on the sofa, was completely confused. Did Xia Chenxi dislike being praised, or were his words of praise too poor? Did Xia Chenxi like more flowery compliments?

Unable to figure out what Xia Chenxi was thinking, Ye Xuan went to the kitchen and brought the dishes out, placing them on the table.

They looked, smelled, and tasted complete. Xia Chenxi had even plated them nicely.

Ye Xuan sat at the dining table and waited for Xia Chenxi to come out.

After a while, Xia Chenxi opened his door. He was wearing a white tank top, his strong, lean figure fully visible. The lines of his waist and abdomen were perfectly defined. His veined, well-jointed hand held a white towel as he wiped his damp hair. Water droplets slid down from the ends of his hair, along his neck, and fell onto his taut chest muscles, dampening a patch of fabric.

Ye Xuan smelled the faint scent of shower gel in the air.

For some reason, his face felt a little hot.

It was all Xia Chenxi’s fault for releasing hormones in front of him.

Seeing that the food on the table had not been touched, Xia Chenxi asked Ye Xuan, “Did you drink enough northwest wind outside? Can’t eat anymore?”

Ye Xuan choked.

“I wanted to wait for you to eat together.”

Xia Chenxi sat down across from him, casually draping the towel over the chair.

“If I never came out, were you planning to wait until dawn?”

Ye Xuan eagerly picked up his chopsticks, took a piece of braised crucian carp, and put it into his mouth. Fragrant. So fragrant that his whole body seemed to float. It had been so long since he had eaten food this delicious.

He shoveled in two mouthfuls of rice and said unclearly, “I’m really not an idiot. If you never came out, I would go ask you. If you said you didn’t want to eat, then I’d gladly help you finish this whole table of dishes.”

Xia Chenxi looked at Ye Xuan, who was eating heartily across from him, and let out a “heh.”

“You wish.”

After resting for one night, Ye Xuan borrowed a hat and mask from Xia Chenxi, planning to go to the hospital fully armed.

He was putting on his shoes at the door, and Xia Chenxi was also putting on his shoes there.

“Are you going to training?”

If he were going to training, he should be wearing a combat uniform. Why was Xia Chenxi wearing casual clothes? And why was he wearing a hat and mask just like him?

“I’m going to the hospital with you.”

Ye Xuan wanted to say that he was not a child and could go alone.

“Don’t overthink it. It’s because I completed my mission outstandingly, so the base specially rewarded me with two days off.”

So it was because he was too bored.

The two went to the hospital together.

After arriving at the hospital, Ye Xuan ran into the front desk nurse from before again. The nurse did not recognize the fully armed Ye Xuan and said to him, “Hello, what do you need? If you want to see the special-grade researcher, you need to make an appointment in advance.”

Ye Xuan looked around. Seeing that no one was paying attention, he pulled down his mask.

The nurse’s eyes widened. The person in front of her was not only someone Special Researcher Xie had instructed did not need an appointment, but also the person the ability users coming to the hospital today had been talking about.

“Shh.” Ye Xuan raised a finger.

The nurse nodded and led the way in front of Ye Xuan.

On the way, they encountered several ability users chatting enthusiastically.

“The guy hung at the cafeteria entrance yesterday was Quan Guanxi, right? He was beaten so badly he didn’t even look human.”

“So reckless. Was it Nan Yunzhou who did it?”

“Did you forget? Nan Yunzhou went out on a mission.”

“Then Ye Xuan did it.”

“Is Ye Xuan that capable?”

“Forget it. Don’t get curious. Be careful, or the next one hanging at the cafeteria entrance will be you.”

They did not know that the capable Ye Xuan they were talking about was quietly passing right beside them.

That was right. Last night, he had asked Xia Chenxi to drag Quan Guanxi to the cafeteria entrance and hang him there.

The purpose was to intimidate those people who disliked him.

Quan Guanxi did not dare expose him at all. The metal net was something Quan Guanxi had bought himself. If the base insisted on investigating, he would not be able to hide his intentions at all.

Although the base tolerated ability users, casually killing people was still not allowed. Not to mention, the person Quan Guanxi wanted to kill was also an ability user.

If he did not want to be severely punished by the base, Quan Guanxi could only swallow this loss in silence.

His revenge plan had been completed perfectly.
