Chapter 89: Transmigrated as a Fraudulent Male Streamer (13)
As they conversed, the group arrived at the farmhouse restaurant.
Yu Sheng was a familiar face, and since he was the one who had made the reservation, the owner hurried over to greet them. “Teacher Yu.” He looked at Yu Sheng, then greeted Jiang Tuan, before finally turning his eyes to He Yongning and Pei Hengyun.
“You are… He Yongning!” After studying him for a moment, the owner recognized He Yongning in his elite attire. But when his eyes landed on Pei Hengyun, a look of confusion washed over his face, as if he had never seen him before.
After about half a minute, a look of sudden realization dawned on his face. “Pei Hengyun!”
Pei Hengyun offered a slight smile. “It seems I’ve changed too much. The owner didn’t even recognize me.”
The owner let out a hearty laugh and gestured for Yu Sheng and the others to head toward the private room inside. As Cen Yu brushed past him, the owner suddenly spoke up. “Hey, what’s your name?”
“You look so familiar, but I just can’t place your name.”
“Me?” Cen Yu paused, looking at the farmhouse restaurant owner.
The owner looked to be in his nineties. He seemed to be trying hard to recall who Cen Yu was, but he couldn’t bring it to mind for the life of him.
“Boss, he isn’t our classmate,” Yu Sheng spoke up. “You probably saw us together and assumed he was a student from Class 1 back then too.”
The owner showed a look of surprise. “He’s not your classmate?”
He muttered under his breath, “No wonder…” Then he burst into a laugh. “And here I thought my memory had gotten that bad.”
“He’s my friend,” Pei Hengyun said with a gentle smile. “He’s never been here before. He came along with me this time just to look around.”
Only then did the owner understand completely, saying, “It’s nice around here, definitely worth looking around.”
Since it was getting close to mealtime, the owner hurried off to tend to other guests… But as Cen Yu watched his receding back, he pondered for a moment before turning to smile under Pei Hengyun’s gaze. “Looks like I’m really not cut out to be a beauty streamer.”
“Hmm?” Pei Hengyun couldn’t quite follow Cen Yu’s line of thought.
“My face is too average—even the owner says I look familiar,” Cen Yu said.
Hearing this, He Yongning didn’t turn his head, but Cen Yu’s face inevitably surfaced in his mind—
While he didn’t know every single streamer under his platform, he was certainly familiar with the popular ones. Yet in his view, plenty of streamers in the beauty section weren’t half as memorable as Cen Yu.
He couldn’t fathom where this sudden lament came from, assuming Cen Yu was merely joking around.
Yu Sheng had already pushed open the door to the private room. The rest of the group had already arrived, and Cen Yu immediately caught sight of a stern, unsmiling man sitting in a wheelchair. He looked a bit older than the others.
Around thirty-five years old, sitting in the wheelchair, he gave off a worn, exhausted impression.
When he saw Yu Sheng, he gave a slight nod, his eyes slowly sweeping over his former students walking through the door. But when his gaze fell upon Cen Yu, a look of surprise suddenly crossed his face, as though he hadn’t expected this person to appear here.
“…?” Cen Yu was baffled. He knows me?
“Hey! Aren’t you that guy?!”
Just as Cen Yu was wondering why this teacher—whom he didn’t even know—would show such a surprised expression, he heard someone suddenly blurt out a shout.
Tracing the gaze, he spotted a man draped in luxury designer logos.
It seemed this was the rich second-generation heir from the novel.
The moment he saw Cen Yu, he grew excited. “Brother Cen, it really is you! I was just thinking what a coincidence it was. So you skipped streaming not to take a break, but to join our class reunion?”
Hearing him speak like that, Cen Yu instantly understood.
—A viewer from his livestream chat.
So he greeted the guy in return.
Meanwhile, a few curious classmates asked who he was, and the rich second-generation heir answered directly on Cen Yu’s behalf—
“A famous fraud of an outdoor exploration streamer who uses props every single day to pretend he’s encountered ghosts.” The rich second-generation heir pulled no punches.
“…” Cen Yu remained silent.
Even if it’s the truth, don’t say it so bluntly, okay?
Standing to the side, He Yongning suddenly let out a low chuckle upon hearing those words. As if recalling that scene in the courtyard again, he raised an eyebrow when he felt Cen Yu’s gaze shift over, his mouth parting slightly as he mouthed three words—
‘Little fraud.’
“Give a bro some face,” Cen Yu rolled his eyes at He Yongning, then said to the rich second-generation heir.
“Haha, just kidding! I love your theatrical effects.”
Thanks to this interjection from the rich second-generation heir, the somewhat distant atmosphere—stemming from years of separation plus the addition of a stranger—instantly loosened up considerably. Meanwhile, Jiang Tuan and the others greeted the man in the wheelchair.
“Teacher Yan.”
Teacher Yan’s name was Yan Feiluan. When he taught them, he had just recently graduated from university. “It’s been ten years since we last met.” Although he was unsmiling, his demeanor was gentle. Yet when he looked at Cen Yu, he couldn’t help but offer a word of caution.
“…Matters of ghosts and spirits aren’t something to joke about,” Teacher Yan said earnestly to Cen Yu.
Cen Yu instantly recognized that this should be a plot point.
Otherwise, why would their teacher suddenly bring up this topic?
“Has Teacher Yan encountered something before?” Cen Yu looked at Yan Feiluan.
Yan Feiluan seemed to plunge into some memory, his entire body trembling slightly before he shook his head. “No.”
Yet Cen Yu had clearly caught that initial look of surprise on Yan Feiluan’s face when he first saw him. The man obviously recognized him, yet chose not to tell the truth.
He Yongning asked, “Teacher Yan, your leg…?”
He remembered that when they graduated, Yan Feiluan’s legs were perfectly fine. How had he suddenly ended up in a wheelchair now?
Yu Sheng immediately explained that it was related to the mudslide that had destroyed Pei Hengyun’s old house a few years ago. Yan Feiluan happened to be near Pei Hengyun’s old family home at the time, completely unaware that a mudslide would strike that very day.
Though he was rescued with great effort, his legs were ruined, and his overall health was nowhere near what it used to be.
Pei Hengyun seemed taken aback that Yan Feiluan being in a wheelchair now was actually connected to his old house. Watching from the side, Cen Yu decided that in the pursuit of uncovering the truth, he would play the role of the tactless intruder.
So he asked point-blank, “Why was Teacher Yan near Pei Hengyun’s house back then?” He looked directly at Yan Feiluan.
“He hadn’t lived there for a long time by then, right?”
If he remembered correctly, the location of Pei Hengyun’s home wasn’t close to the village’s main road; in fact, it could be described as somewhat remote—otherwise, it wouldn’t have been hit by the mudslide.
So why would Yan Feiluan suddenly run all the way out near Pei Hengyun’s old house years after Pei Hengyun had left home?
Could it be that he had discovered some secret and rushed to verify it, only to unluckily run right into the mudslide?
Cen Yu watched as Yan Feiluan’s eyes instantly grew panicked under his questioning. As if fleeing from something, he merely offered a vague, halting response, “…I just happened to pass by while taking a walk.”
At this, a look of deep contemplation crossed He Yongning’s face as well.
Pei Hengyun, however, didn’t seem to mind in the slightest. He simply pulled Cen Yu down to sit at the round dining table. “Let’s not stand around chatting. Everyone, let’s eat first.”
