Chapter 82: Transmigrated as a Fraudulent Male Streamer (6)
“Little Yu, don’t bother Yongning.” Pei Hengyun stepped forward and took hold of Cen Yu’s wrist, separating Cen Yu’s overlapping hand from He Yongning’s. Only then did he turn to He Yongning, offering a soft, embarrassed explanation, “It’s my fault for telling him earlier that you’re the boss of his streaming platform.”
Pei Hengyun possessed a refined, scholarly aura—good-looking and mild-tempered, making it practically impossible for anyone to harbor ill will toward him.
By contrast, Cen Yu’s hair was somewhat long and bleached a pale ash-gray, and when he spoke, the tongue piercer on his tongue was distinctly visible… He Yongning caught sight of the angel tattoo on the man’s arm at a glance. By nature, he felt a deep aversion to anything that fell outside order and propriety.
Thus, even though he recalled that Pei Hengyun was his former high school classmate, he had no intention of changing his impression of Cen Yu deep down.
Furthermore, he decided to drag both of them right onto his personal blacklist.
On the surface, however, He Yongning maintained the mature, proper social front of an adult. “You were the former… sports representative back then?” He Yongning hazarded with a touch of uncertainty.
Although it had been ten years since graduation, could someone like Pei Hengyun really have been the sports representative in the past?
He Yongning still found it rather hard to imagine.
He threw a glance at Cen Yu, for whom he had zero recollection whatsoever; in his memory, there was no such person in his high school class.
Jiang Tuan also seemed to sense that the atmosphere here was growing somewhat tense. He walked over and briefly introduced their identities, making a point to emphasize that Cen Yu “wasn’t a classmate from their class.”
“How about you head to my place first?” Jiang Tuan offered with a touch of enthusiasm. “Everything’s been cleaned up.”
He Yongning gave a reserved nod, turning to head back toward his car.
Jiang Tuan froze for a second… He had originally assumed He Yongning would invite him to ride in his car. After all, he had walked all the way to the village entrance specifically to guide them.
With Cen Yu sitting in the passenger seat of Pei Hengyun’s car, it was inconvenient, so it clearly made more sense for He Yongning to give him a lift while he led the way for both vehicles.
Cen Yu naturally caught Jiang Tuan’s brief freeze. Sneering inwardly, he said to Jiang Tuan, “You sit in the front passenger seat and show the way.”
Saying this, without waiting for Pei Hengyun to speak, he slid straight into the back seat, leaving Pei Hengyun and Jiang Tuan up front.
With his eyes half-draped, Pei Hengyun glanced at He Yongning, who had already seated himself back inside his own car. Finally, he turned to Jiang Tuan, “Right, we’ll have to trouble you to lead the way.”
[Host.]
The vanished fat cat materialized right by Cen Yu’s feet. Taking advantage of the fact that the two in front couldn’t see it, it even flipped over on its back beside Cen Yu’s foot, exposing its belly.
[The main system says that because your roleplay in this round is far too simple, it doesn’t meet the requirements. So you have to complete an extra task.] The fat cat let out a meow.
“What task?”
[Before the story of the novel ends, you must uncover the truth behind this novel on your own,] the fat cat said.
The moment Cen Yu heard this, he was instantly displeased.
“Are you out of your mind?” Cen Yu barked. “I die on the fourth night! You’re asking me to investigate the truth of a novel that doesn’t even wrap up until seven days later?!”
As a horror-suspense novel, to say nothing of the fact that someone died right on the very first night when the gathering started—
A mudslide broke out on the second day, turning their location into an isolated island.
On the morning of the third day, another dead body was discovered, finally causing someone to lose their mind and decide to leave first… followed by the fourth night, where Cen Yu, after encountering a ghost, locked Pei Hengyun inside a room to flee alone, only to get killed himself.
Because he lacked the clearance to view subsequent plot details, Cen Yu didn’t know what happened next.
He only knew that at the end of the seventh day, the rescue team found an unconscious Pei Hengyun by the roadside, whereupon Pei Hengyun mentioned there was still another person over there.
Serving as an open ending.
Now the System was saying that before getting killed on the fourth day, he had better uncover the truth of this novel, or else it wouldn’t count as a successful clear?!
[That’s not it, Host,] the fat cat explained hastily.
[After you get killed, your soul will still remain inside this instance world, so you can investigate the truth in a ghost state.]
“…” Cen Yu fell silent for a moment.
He suspected he had misheard.
“…You guys are truly ruthless,” Cen Yu complained. “Even after dying and becoming a ghost, I still have to finish the task in a ghost state?!”
As they spoke, Jiang Tuan had already guided the two cars to his newly built three-story house.
The courtyard space happened to fit both vehicles perfectly.
After pulling up and turning off the engine, Pei Hengyun immediately turned to look at Cen Yu sitting in the back seat, as if worried about something.
Cen Yu let out a wide yawn. “I need to catch up on sleep, I’m so tired.”
Jiang Tuan frowned at those words, looking visibly disgusted by his lazy, careless demeanor…
Stepping out of his car, He Yongning took a look around the courtyard, feeling considerably more satisfied upon noticing that no livestock or poultry were being raised here.
The expression on Pei Hengyun’s face didn’t change much. He simply walked over to Cen Yu’s side, looking at him with concern. “Did you not sleep well today?”
Cen Yu let out another yawn. “Got up way too early.”
To avoid running late, Pei Hengyun had set out at noon. The roads leading to this place were none too smooth, and by the time they arrived, it was already six in the evening.
“Have the others all arrived?” He Yongning asked suddenly.
“Yeah,” Jiang Tuan replied. “They mostly arrived around noon today.”
Since night hadn’t fallen yet, he said to Pei Hengyun and He Yongning, “The class monitor said we’ll all eat together tomorrow at noon, so you guys can rest up first.”
Pei Hengyun seemed to notice that Cen Yu was indeed thoroughly exhausted.
After asking about their room assignments, he carried a simple duffel bag and headed up to the third floor with Cen Yu.
He Yongning, meanwhile, stayed on the second floor right beneath them.
Cen Yu was incredibly sleepy, yet he didn’t want to go to bed without taking a shower first.
However, after searching around, he failed to find a bathroom anywhere in the house. Upon asking, he learned that the bathroom inside Jiang Tuan’s house hadn’t been renovated yet; the bathroom currently in use was located out in the courtyard—a standalone little shed that had been hastily built.
Cen Yu didn’t hesitate, slipping on his sandals and preparing to head toward the bathroom in the courtyard.
Upon arrival, he realized the bathroom was rather crude.
It had only a small wooden door on the outside with no lock, but perhaps because Jiang Tuan lived here alone anyway, it hadn’t posed much of an issue…
“Don’t follow me,” Cen Yu noticed Pei Hengyun trailing right behind him.
“I’m worried,” Pei Hengyun said. Seemingly afraid that his words might be overheard, he leaned into Cen Yu’s ear and whispered softly, “I heard… there are weird occurrences in the village. It might be haunted.”
Because Pei Hengyun was standing so close, Cen Yu caught his slightly low body temperature.
Looking as though he were deeply frightened, he said to Cen Yu, “I don’t dare stay alone.”
“I told you already, there are no ghosts in this world—it’s all hallucinations,” Cen Yu replied immediately. Yet seeing Pei Hengyun’s pitiful, vulnerable state, he couldn’t bring himself to be heartless—after all, the guy was genuinely terrified of this stuff.
Mulling it over for a moment, he said to Pei Hengyun, “Then wait for me outside the door. If anything seems off, call out to me and I’ll come right out.”
