Chapter 5: Transmigrated as a Cheapskate Phoenix Man (5)
Cen Yu seemed to deeply dislike this boss who had been parachuted in. On the rare occasions he brought him up, his descriptions were always along the lines of “rich second-generation,” “nepo baby,” or “arrogant snob.”
This was precisely why, despite his utter disdain for the boss, Yu Xinyu hadn’t completely lost his mind yet.
Grasping the shirt in his hands, he consoled himself over and over: It’s fine, it’s fine.
Cen Yu doesn’t like him.
Cen Yu doesn’t like anybody.
Naturally, Yu Xinyu knew Cen Yu didn’t like him either, but it didn’t matter. Since Cen Yu didn’t like anyone, that made him the only one—his self-acknowledged boyfriend.
At this thought, Yu Xinyu felt a sudden wave of relief inside.
Looking once more at the shirt before him and the lingering scent of perfume, that suffocating feeling vanished. Instead, he happily nuzzled his face against the shirt… Apart from the collar and cuffs, which were tainted by that disgusting perfume, the rest still bore the familiar scent of Cen Yu’s cologne.
A refined, subtle woodiness with a hint of bitter basil and damp moss—a aloof, emotionally detached fragrance…
Yu Xinyu buried his face in the shirt until his nose was filled with the familiar cologne, the cool woody notes finally overwhelming the original patchouli scent. Only then did he lift his head and carefully smooth out the shirt.
“I’m sorry, Hubby,” he murmured to himself. “I wrinkled your shirt.”
“I’ll buy you a new one later.”
To this day, Cen Yu was still oblivious to one fact: Yu Xinyu didn’t really know how to wash clothes at all. Most of Cen Yu’s garments were ruined in the wash by him—after which Yu Xinyu would simply buy identical replacements to cover it up.
Yet Yu Xinyu couldn’t bear to throw away those ruined clothes either, storing every single one inside the massive wardrobe in his own bedroom.
If Cen Yu were ever to step into Yu Xinyu’s unlocked bedroom and open that wardrobe spanning an entire wall, he would likely discover a vast collection of clothes identical to the ones in his own closet—all ruined and discarded by Yu Xinyu.
Having cleared his thoughts, Yu Xinyu’s mood improved considerably. He happily stepped beneath the showerhead and began washing himself.
Squeezing out some of the same body wash Cen Yu used, he felt thoroughly delighted. A smile surfaced on his face as he marveled at the fact that not only did he and Cen Yu use the same scented body wash (though, of course, he was the one who bought it), but they were even wearing matching pajamas.
It was just that Cen Yu’s expression had seemed a bit off when he came home tonight…
Yu Xinyu paused for a few seconds, contemplating deeply beneath the shower stream.
Had that damned boss made things difficult for Cen Yu?
No, if that person had picked on him, Cen Yu definitely would have come home with a dark, scowling face.
Could he be sick…?
The moment that possibility crossed his mind, Yu Xinyu sped up his shower!
He decided to sneak into Cen Yu’s room to check on him.
…
Cen Yu’s room was very dark, the curtains drawn tight.
When Yu Xinyu stepped inside, he immediately caught the sound of Cen Yu’s steady breathing… Softly closing the door behind him, he approached Cen Yu’s bed and at once spotted the medicine sitting on the nightstand.
Seeing that it was fever medicine, Yu Xinyu paled with shock.
Caring no longer whether he might wake Cen Yu, he hurriedly reached out to touch Cen Yu’s forehead—
A thin layer of sweat coated Cen Yu’s brow.
His body temperature was also noticeably higher than usual.
Seeing this, Yu Xinyu fetched a thermometer… Fortunately, the fever wasn’t too high, and it seemed the fever reducer was already taking effect.
Yu Xinyu lay crouched at the edge of the bed. After a short while, his vision gradually adjusted to the dim bedroom. Lying on his back, Cen Yu’s cheeks were slightly flushed, his breathing somewhat shallower and quicker than normal…
Yu Xinyu simply crouched there, staring at Cen Yu’s face.
He reached out a hand, hesitating for a moment before lightly lifting Cen Yu’s blanket… and slipping his hand inside.
Due to the fever and sweating, the pajamas Cen Yu wore beneath the blanket felt slightly damp and likely very uncomfortable to the touch. Yet Yu Xinyu didn’t dare change Cen Yu’s pajamas directly.
He could only fetch a warm towel and slowly wipe away the sweat emerging on Cen Yu’s neck and forehead.
As Yu Xinyu crouched by the bedside, Cen Yu—perhaps feeling hot—extended one arm out from beneath the blanket, letting it rest limply over the edge of the mattress… Yu Xinyu originally intended to tuck his arm back in, but after staring at it for a moment,
He merely pressed his head slowly into the palm of Cen Yu’s hand instead.
His cheek gently nuzzled against Cen Yu’s palm.
Because of the fever, the temperature of Cen Yu’s palm was warmer than usual, lacking its memory’s usual cool touch.
Yu Xinyu simply stayed crouched by the bed, gazing at Cen Yu’s face and the beauty marks beneath his eye.
The arm Cen Yu had stretched out happened to be the one with the tattoo… Yu Xinyu lay there, looking at the little trumpet-blowing angel on Cen Yu’s forearm.
He traced the outline of the little angel with his finger, opened his mouth, and ultimately gave a tiny, gentle bite on Cen Yu’s forearm, leaving no mark behind on the skin.
Just then, the phone Cen Yu had placed on the nightstand suddenly chimed with a message.
The screen lit up brightly.
Yu Xinyu knew he shouldn’t look, but the little devil inside his heart urged him to steal a glance… And in the second before the screen dimmed once more, he caught sight of the sender’s name.
[Big Star]
Sang Qianshan!
Yu Xinyu instantly recognized who sent it.
Among all the people Cen Yu knew, Sang Qianshan was the only celebrity…
Right at that moment, Yu Xinyu’s own phone began vibrating incessantly. He hadn’t wanted to open his phone at first, wanting only to lie by the bed and watch Cen Yu, but the continuous buzzing wouldn’t stop… In the end, Yu Xinyu opened his phone with annoyance.
Only then did he discover that his group chat was furiously blowing up with messages, tagging him repeatedly.
