Chapter 104: Transmigrated as a Fraudulent Male Streamer (28)
Old Cen the security guard?
Cen Yu certainly hadn’t expected his character persona to have this hidden back story.
To prevent Yu Sheng from appearing out of nowhere, the group had already moved into one of the classrooms. Cen Yu leaned casually against one of the desks, looking over at Pei Hengyun. “If that really was your house, why were the bedroom walls covered in posters of basketball stars?”
It was precisely because of that detail that he had misjudged the situation earlier, assuming Pei Hengyun didn’t exist and had directly usurped Cen Yu’s identity.
“Because you used to tell me you weren’t allowed to put up posters at home,” Pei Hengyun explained. “Back then, you came over to my place to do homework all the time, so you just put those posters up in my room instead.”
Cen Yu glanced at Pei Hengyun’s expression, guessing that this was likely the reality.
Yet there was still one point he couldn’t quite wrap his head around. If Pei Hengyun knew something was wrong with Yu Sheng, why had he still decided to return to their hometown after receiving Yu Sheng’s phone call?
He looked at Pei Hengyun. “Wouldn’t it have been better if you just skipped the class reunion?”
Pei Hengyun knew that Cen Yu might not entirely believe whatever he said right now, but he still spoke up, “The Yu Sheng in my memory was also our class monitor.”
That was the most terrifying part of it all: Yu Sheng had altered everyone’s memories.
He only remembered dying in an accident during his sophomore year of high school, before mysteriously reviving as a soul. Although Cen Yu didn’t remember his existence at all, he was somehow able to appear before everyone in physical form…
In his memory, his own presence had replaced Cen Yu’s identity.
He had initially assumed this was due to his own “resurrection,” though deep down he remained uneasy. So the moment he received Yu Sheng’s call, he thought about bringing Cen Yu back to their hometown to see if the classmates in his memory still remembered Cen Yu.
And just as he had suspected, everyone had forgotten that Cen Yu ever existed.
They only remembered that he, Pei Hengyun, was a former classmate of He Yongning and Jiang Tuan.
Listening to Pei Hengyun’s explanation, Cen Yu lightly tapped his fingers against his thigh. He then locked eyes with Pei Hengyun. “So… you came back to your hometown just to confirm this?”
Pei Hengyun nodded truthfully.
Cen Yu immediately turned his eyes to the other three. “What about you guys?”
When questioned like this, He Yongning sensed that something was off as well.
He had been away from his hometown for ten years and had virtually no lingering attachments to the place. Yet the moment he received Yu Sheng’s phone call, a thought had inexplicably popped into his head—
I should go back and take a look.
Fan Jie’s face turned even paler. He looked at the group, stammering, “I-I don’t know…”
“I just remember taking the class monitor’s call.”
“And then I suddenly thought that I ought to come back.”
As for Jiang Tuan, he lived in the village to begin with, so his presence here wasn’t unusual…
Yet the horrifying reality of this situation was that Yu Sheng was clearly not human, yet he had existed in everyone’s memories for so long. In fact, had it not been for that large group photo, every single one of them would likely still believe that Yu Sheng was their class monitor and currently a teacher at Meiman Middle School.
Even Teacher Yan likely thought the same.
That entity had already manifested into a physical entity within this village—someone everyone could see and touch… Even if Cen Yu didn’t possess an overly deep understanding of such entities, he could still sense that this thing was bound to be exceptionally troublesome to deal with.
Looking at the group before him, each consumed by their own thoughts, Cen Yu had actually already completed the first of his tasks.
“Who am I?” Task 1 had been completed the very moment the group photo and the assignment notebook surfaced.
He was Cen Yu, a former student of Meiman High School.
The focus of the remaining two tasks was to rewrite everyone’s fate and to fulfill “Xinyu’s” wish… From a certain perspective, Cen Yu felt these two might actually boil down to a single objective.
Why had Yu Sheng called all these people back for a class reunion only to murder them?
If Cen Yu, He Yongning, and the others were targeted because they had participated in that game back then, what about the rich second-generation heir?
And what about the rest?
The original novel didn’t mention the ultimate fate of the group that fled on their own, but the rich second-gen heir’s outcome had been explicitly shown. Sitting directly on top of the desk, Cen Yu turned his gaze to the rich second-gen heir. “Are you hiding something from us?”
“W-What?” Hearing those words, the rich second-gen heir’s expression instantly dissolved into panic.
Cen Yu looked at him, jerking his chin up. “Hold him down.”
He Yongning and Jiang Tuan immediately pinned down Fan Jie, who was looking utterly frantic and on the verge of screaming at the top of his lungs.
His reaction was so glaringly obvious that it practically shouted to everyone present:
I am hiding something from you.
Cen Yu scanned the few people gathered in the classroom.
He could only see the original plot up to the fourth day. On the first day, Fan Jie died, and then a mudslide trapped everyone in this place.
Shortly after, another former classmate died. At that point, someone finally couldn’t take it anymore and decided that even with the mudslide blocking the way, they were going to leave this place first no matter what.
A group of people then departed directly, and their eventual fates remained unknown.
Then came the fourth day, where he locked Pei Hengyun inside the room before dying himself.
Pulling the claw hammer out from his pocket, Cen Yu sat on the desk, weighing it idly in his hand. “What did you and Duan Zhou do back then?”
Duan Zhou was the former classmate who died later on in the story.
Naturally, Cen Yu didn’t actually know what the two of them had done, so he was merely bluffing to see if he could trick Fan Jie into spilling some new information.
The moment Fan Jie heard Duan Zhou’s name, his face turned ash-gray, yet he still refused to give up, stubbornly defending himself, “I have no idea what you’re talking about…”
Hearing that, Cen Yu let out a sudden, dry chuckle at Fan Jie. “Step aside.”
He addressed the two men holding Fan Jie down.
He Yongning and Jiang Tuan released their grip instantly. Spotting Fan Jie preparing to bolt, Cen Yu launched a kick straight into his knee… Moving at lightning speed, he grabbed Fan Jie by the collar, planted another kick into his knee, and slammed him face-first onto the dust-covered floor.
He pinned his knee directly against Fan Jie’s back and slammed the hammer violently onto the floor—
Stopping barely a single centimeter away from Fan Jie’s fingers.
Even though it hadn’t directly struck Fan Jie’s hand, the terrifying vibration and deafening thud echoing right beside his fingers scared Fan Jie so badly he nearly shrieked at the top of his lungs.
Only for Jiang Tuan, quick on his feet, to clamp a hand firmly over his mouth.
Cen Yu glanced down at the hammer in his hand, then tapped it lightly against Fan Jie’s skull. “I’m not playing house with you right now.”
“You’d better confess honestly… What on earth did you do back then?” Cen Yu looked down at Fan Jie, then suddenly broke into a faint smile, a rare flicker of emotion surfacing across his usually cold demeanor. “I have a terrible temper. Besides, if you don’t talk, every single one of us is going to die.”
“So I might as well send you on your way first.”
Saying this, he raised the claw hammer high in the air—
“Mmph! Mmph!!” Tears nearly burst out of Fan Jie’s eyes. Jiang Tuan immediately yanked his hand away in disgust.
Scared so badly he nearly wet his pants on the spot, Fan Jie screamed in total breakdown at Cen Yu—
“I said back then that I wanted to go home!”
“I wished every single one of you country bumpkins would just drop dead!”
“As long as it let me go home!!”
