Chapter 107
The moment those words came out, the entire place fell silent.
Just a second ago, everyone had still been basking in the joy of shipping a couple. The next second, someone was telling them the sugar in that ship came laced with deadly poison.
Jiang Qianqian could not help rubbing her ear, almost thinking she had misheard.
But very quickly, everyone’s expressions shifted from stunned to excited.
—This had all the signs of a massive piece of gossip!!!
“I was already starting to eat up this CP and now you’re telling me there’s gossip?!”
“I just put down my phone that I was about to use to screen-record… wait, what?! Super huge gossip?!”
“So the father and son have the same boyfriend? Woohoo! That wild, huh?!”
“I heard Chairman Chen got divorced ages ago and never dated again after that. Since he’s been with Jian Yu this long… could it be he was planning to marry him too, just like his son?”
“Holy crap, that makes it even more exciting!!!”
“Jian Yu: You people never told me you were father and son! Well, this is awkward now, isn’t it? QAQ”
Ji Ran could not help touching his phone.
As far as he knew, his father had once done business with Jiamei and should still have Chairman Chen’s contact information.
Director Chen was about to propose. For something this huge, Chairman Chen—as the father—would surely want to witness it too, right?
Ji Ran was already calculating fast in his head, and his itching fingers had already unlocked his phone.
“I’m not seeing things, right?! Chairman Chen, who never comes to the office, actually came today! And he’s already downstairs, about to take the elevator up!!!”
Lin Zhiqiao sucked in a sharp breath. “Holy crap, holy crap! This is heading straight for a face-to-face collision! Is a three-person battlefield really about to unfold right here?!”
The very next second, someone pushed open the door of Shuiyunjian and came out.
Everyone’s eyes snapped over at once, only to see that Director Chen—Chen Lilin—had come out first.
Just then, the office doorbell rang. Chen Lilin glanced at the time on his watch and hurried over.
It was a delivery guy, bringing Chen Lilin a gift box taller than he was—one that could easily fit four or five adults inside.
This had to be the proposal surprise Chen Lilin had prepared for Jian Yu.
The anticipation in Lin Zhiqiao’s eyes was almost impossible to hide. Someone close to Director Chen deliberately asked, “Such a huge box—Director, are you replacing our office fridge or something?”
“Not a fridge.” Chen Lilin smiled. There was a trace of nervousness in his movements, but he did not say what was inside the box.
Not long after, Jian Yu also came out of the meeting room.
At first glance, he saw the enormous, absurdly conspicuous gift box—or rather, gift crate.
The crate blocked Chen Lilin completely. Jian Yu had no idea what was going on and frowned. “Whose thing is this? Why is something this huge sitting here—”
As he spoke, he walked toward the crate.
The instant he drew close, the ribbon wrapped around the outside suddenly came loose. A burst of colorful balloons shot out from inside, overcoming the resistance and scattering all over the office.
The crate toppled to one side, revealing Chen Lilin kneeling on one knee behind it.
He held a small, exquisite ring box in his hands, surrounded by a scattering of fully bloomed red roses that had spilled from the crate. Looking deeply in love, he said, “Jian Yu, would you accept my proposal and spend the rest of yOur Lifewith me?”
Jian Yu was stunned.
At that exact moment, the elevator doors opened with a ding. The man inside had been smiling as he spoke to the person beside him, but the second his gaze swept over the brilliantly colorful chaos in the office, his steps stopped sharply.
“Please wait a moment, President Song. I’ll go see what’s going on,” he said apologetically.
This middle-aged man was none other than the chairman of Jiamei Media, Chen Jiang, who was also Director Chen’s father.
The company’s affairs had long since been distributed among others, so unless something very important came up, Chen Jiang almost never came to the office.
This time was an exception.
Who would have thought that after nothing more than sharing a meal with the head of the Song family, that man would suddenly show interest in Jiamei and say he wanted to come take a look at the company?
If it had been anyone else, Chen Jiang would have handed the task of giving them a tour to someone else.
But the one making the request was Song Fengshi. If they could gain President Song’s investment and support, Jiamei Media would definitely rise to the next level!
Chen Jiang took it very seriously, afraid Song Fengshi might change his mind. So as soon as they finished eating, he personally drove him straight over to Jiamei Media.
It had all happened so suddenly that Chen Jiang had not had time to inform anyone.
The company was usually very well managed, so Chen Jiang had not worried that President Song would get a bad impression. But what he never could have imagined was that a little accident seemed to have happened today.
Chen Jiang hurried into the office. What met his eyes was a field of vividly blooming red roses, and a mass of colorful balloons that absolutely should not have been in a work area.
“Can someone tell me what is going on?” he asked in a low voice. His gaze swept across the bright colors before finally landing on the two people surrounded by roses.
And the second he really saw them, even the battle-hardened Chairman Chen froze completely.
Hearing the commotion, Jian Yu and Chen Lilin turned their heads at the same time.
One reacted with surprise and excitement. “Dad? Why did you suddenly come?”
At the sight of the newcomer, Jian Yu’s face turned panicked. Then, after hearing the way Chen Lilin addressed him, his panic turned into outright terror. It was as if an invisible hand had clamped around his throat. He gasped twice with difficulty, unable to make a single sound.
Chen Jiang looked from Chen Lilin to Jian Yu, then laughed in fury. “If I hadn’t come, how would I ever have witnessed such a wonderful scene!”
Chen Lilin clearly had not caught the implication. “Dad—”
But Chen Jiang cut him off at once. “Don’t call me Dad,” he said. “How long have you two been carrying on together?”
Chen Lilin frowned, finally sensing that something was wrong. “What do you mean ‘carrying on’? Dad, watch your words. This is my boyfriend! What we have is real! I’m proposing to him!”
“Your boyfriend? Real?” Chen Jiang gave a cold laugh, as if he had just heard the biggest joke in the world. “Maybe you’re sincere, but he might not be.”
Chen Lilin’s expression darkened. “Dad, stop being so hostile. Jian Yu and I have been together for a long time.”
Chen Jiang was so furious he almost laughed again. “Really? Well, what a coincidence. When he was with me, he also kept saying his feelings for me were sincere! Does he happen to have two hearts to be this sincere twice?”
The instant those words landed, the scene fell into deathly silence.
Lin Zhiqiao held his breath and widened his eyes. “Ohhh, he said it, he said it! Oh my god, is this the legendary crash-and-burn battlefield? This is way too thrilling!!!”
Chen Lilin had obviously crashed. His face was blank with confusion. “When he was… with you?”
He chewed over each word his father had said, slowly understanding the meaning.
Then Chen Lilin whipped his head around and stared at the visibly uneasy Jian Yu. “You went behind my back and hooked up with my father?!”
Jian Yu instinctively tried to defend himself. “I didn’t! I didn’t even know he was your father!”
Lin Zhiqiao clapped like a seal in his head. “Brilliant! That line was absolutely brilliant! Were you trying to calm him down or make him even angrier?!”
Sure enough, the moment those words came out, both Chen Lilin’s and Chen Jiang’s expressions twisted violently.
Chen Lilin threw down the proposal ring, surged to his feet, and lunged at Jian Yu. “You cheap bastard! I’ve known you for so many years, and only now do I see your true face!”
“Brother Chen, don’t—don’t hit me!” Jian Yu covered his head and dodged wildly. Catching sight of Chen Jiang standing rigidly nearby, he cried out, “Brother Chen! Help me! I know I was wrong—”
Father and son spoke in perfect unison: “You call him Brother Chen?!”
Their father-son understanding reached a new peak in that instant. Once Chen Jiang joined in, the scene became even more chaotic. The blooming roses were trampled everywhere, and even the balloons floating in the air were yanked down and stomped until many burst.
Off to the side, Lin Zhiqiao was eating it all up with great delight. He even had the leisure to throw in fuel to the fire. “He didn’t do anything wrong. He just wanted to join this family, that’s all!”
A small piece of chestnut pastry suddenly appeared at his side. Lin Zhiqiao grabbed it on instinct and popped it into his mouth. The sweet chestnut fragrance spread across his tongue, and only then did he realize something. He lifted his head and looked at the man who had appeared beside him without him noticing.
“Song Fengshi?” Lin Zhiqiao sounded surprised. “Why are you here?”
“I came with Chairman Chen,” Song Fengshi said, setting a delicate pastry box down on the table. “Is it good?”
Lin Zhiqiao nodded. “It’s good. From Nanjiang Dinning House?”
“Mm.” Song Fengshi nodded, then asked, “Are you satisfied with this surprise?”
