Chapter 69: Extra — What to Do When Big Brother Turns into a Bird (1)
After the human–bird family gathering ended, it was time to send all the birds back to their respective homes.
After all the hustle, Yanyan was so exhausted he could barely move.
Once they had sent Bird Dad and Mom back, he flopped onto the bed and fell asleep immediately.
In his half-asleep state, he could feel Si Jingce gently tucking the blanket around him and pulling him into his arms.
Following his movement, Yanyan rubbed against his arm with his eyes closed and drifted off into deep sleep.
A good night’s rest.
—
When Yanyan woke up, the space beside him was empty. He reached out—the blanket was already cold.
Yawning lazily, he got out of bed, walked into the living room, and called loudly, “Brother! I’m hungry!”
No response.
Did he go out?
Yanyan searched the whole house but couldn’t find Si Jingce anywhere.
He went to the fridge first and finished off the ice cream he had been craving for a long time, then slowly checked his phone.
Normally, even if Si Jingce went out, he would send a message.
But now their chat window was completely quiet.
Strange.
Yanyan frowned and sent a message:
[Yanyan]: Brother, I’m awake~ Where did you go? I was very well-behaved at home and didn’t sneak any ice cream, so when you come back, can you bring me a chocolate daifuku, please ovo?
The message sent successfully—and a notification sound rang out inside the house.
It sounded like… it was coming from the bedroom?
Did he go out without his phone?
Yanyan called him. The ringtone faintly echoed.
Following the sound, he found Si Jingce’s phone… inside the blanket.
The phone is here—then where is brother?!
My whole big brother just disappeared?!
He wouldn’t leave without a message, let alone without his phone.
Looking down, even his slippers were still by the bed.
Yanyan sat on the bed, and a terrifying thought crossed his mind—
Oh no… Brother is missing!
—
He hurriedly stood up to go look for him, but his hand accidentally pressed against the blanket—
There was something small underneath.
A strange yet familiar chirp came from the bedding.
“Jiu.”
Yanyan: ?
He lifted the blanket and pulled out the little creature hidden inside.
…It was a zebra finch.
The little bird shook itself and looked up at him.
Its expression seemed shocked, then it slowly lowered its head, staring at its own wings and snow-white chest.
The bird froze.
That familiar expression…
Yanyan cupped the bird in both hands and cautiously called out:
“Brother?”
The bird: “Jiu…”
Yanyan: ??
Ahhhh—
What do I do, my brother turned into a bird QAQ
—
After a week of hard work, Xiao Li was finally resting when a video call woke him up.
Still groggy, he answered—and saw a zebra finch on screen looking extremely serious.
He sighed helplessly. “Yanyan, did you accidentally tap the screen with your beak again?”
A head popped into frame.
Yanyan shouted anxiously, “Something happened!”
Xiao Li immediately sat up. “If you’re there… then who is this bird?”
Yanyan: “It’s brother.”
“He turned into a bird!”
Si Jingce turned into a bird?
Since entering this field, Xiao Li felt like his worldview was being refreshed daily.
Birds turning into humans was one thing—but humans turning into birds?!
“Don’t panic,” Xiao Li quickly said. “First confirm—are you sure it’s your brother? Maybe he’s joking and found a random bird.”
Yanyan: “…Would I not recognize my own brother? And I can understand bird language.”
Xiao Li fell silent.
Right.
He had never encountered this before.
“Then tell me everything that happened,” he said. “I’ll think of a solution.”
—
Si Jingce himself didn’t know why he had turned into a bird.
When he woke up, everything was pitch black, and he couldn’t crawl out of the blanket.
After Yanyan rescued him, he realized Yanyan had become huge—and even the phone looked enormous.
There was nothing wrong with his body.
He had just… suddenly turned into a bird.
Standing on the table, he chirped rapidly, and Yanyan translated for Xiao Li.
“That’s a tough one…” Xiao Li thought for a moment. “Observe for now. I’ll look up some information.”
Aside from turning into a bird, everything else seemed fine.
After ending the call, Yanyan looked worriedly at bird-version Si Jingce.
“Brother, don’t worry!” he patted his chest. “I’ll take good care of you!”
Si Jingce suddenly had a bad feeling.
—
Yanyan lifted him up, and since he finally had the chance, he poked his head.
“Jiu.”
Don’t touch randomly.
The more he protested, the more Yanyan couldn’t resist, petting him from head to tail.
“So this is what it feels like when you pet me,” Yanyan said, satisfied. “Honestly, it’s not bad if you don’t turn back.”
…
But turning into a bird brought many problems.
“Brother,” Yanyan suddenly remembered, “how will you stream now?”
“Jiu jiu jiu…”
What else? Take leave.
Since typing was inconvenient, Yanyan logged into his account and wrote a leave notice.
Before posting, Si Jingce blocked the screen with his wing and leaned in to read:
“Wuwu something happened at home today, taking a day off.”
The bird looked at Yanyan. “Jiu. Jiu.”
Delete it.
“What? Isn’t it good?” Yanyan complained, deleting it reluctantly. “Brother, you’re so hard to please.”
Si Jingce squeezed out from under his hand and decided to do it himself.
Pecking at the screen with difficulty, he typed:
“Something came up. Not streaming today.”
After posting, he jumped onto Yanyan’s palm.
He was hungry.
—
After turning into a bird, movement was inconvenient—he had to rely on Yanyan.
Yanyan stood up, then suddenly remembered something and looked down at him.
“Brother.”
Si Jingce: ?
“What?”
“You’re a bird now,” Yanyan said seriously. “You can’t eat chips or cake anymore.”
He brought out his feeding bowl, poured in some birdseed, and placed it on the table.
“So just watch me eat.”
Si Jingce: …
He had reason to suspect this was revenge.
As a human, eating birdseed felt… strange.
He picked up a grain and chewed it.
…It actually tasted okay.
After turning small, his appetite had also shrunk. He quickly got full, dipped his beak into water, and rinsed it.
Yanyan cleaned up the bowl and cup, heading to the kitchen.
Si Jingce jumped down from the low table and followed behind him.
Bird legs were much slower—every step Yanyan took required ten steps from him, his claws making little “tap-tap” sounds.
Seeing him struggle, Yanyan tilted his head.
“Brother, you can try flying.”
Flying would be easier.
Si Jingce flapped his wings.
How do you even fly?
“Let’s start from a high place!”
Yanyan placed him on a cabinet. A flash of light—and Yanyan turned into a bird too, landing beside him.
Two fluffy little balls stood together.
Yanyan pointed at the dining table with his wing.
“Watch how I do it.”
He flapped lightly and jumped.
His wings spread, catching the air. He gracefully glided down, dodged obstacles, and landed perfectly on the table.
Shaking his wings, he looked up.
“Brother, your turn!”
Flying is easy!
—
Si Jingce slowly hopped to the edge and looked down.
Hmm… not too high.
He copied Yanyan, spread his wings, and jumped.
Yanyan watched—
as Si Jingce dropped straight down like a vertical line.
And then…
thump.
He landed face-first into the carpet, leaving a tiny dent.
Yanyan: …………
