Chapter 17: Ticklish

Ruan Chen slapped the baby bottle away, sending it flying against the wall. It barely missed shattering completely.

“Doesn’t taste good?” Lux frowned, smoothing back Ruan Chen’s hair.

“Meow meow meow! (Do you want a piece of me or what?!)” Ruan Chen grabbed his hand to stop him from petting, glaring daggers at him.

Assuming he was just throwing a tantrum from being frightened, Lux gently patted Ruan Chen’s back. “Be good. We’ll have Vincent look at the surveillance in a bit to find out what it was. Whatever it is, it can’t hurt you. Don’t be afraid.”

The rhythmic pats felt incredibly comforting, but Ruan Chen still pressed his small palms against Lux’s chest, refusing to let himself be held. “Mew-wu…”

Vincent pulled up the surveillance footage in no time. The screen revealed that a Zerg worker drone had actually been clinging to the outside of Lux’s window.

Ruan Chen pointed excitedly at the screen. “Meow meow meow meow! (That’s it! That’s the one!)”

He turned his head toward Lux. “Meow-ow-ow. (I didn’t see wrong.)”

The camera had captured a snippet of the room’s interior, and in the next frame, Ruan Chen saw his own face on the screen, completely contorted with terror.

To make matters worse, the Zerg worker drone had flown away right at that exact instant, and Vincent had paused the footage precisely on that frame.

Ruan Chen: “…”

Fuck! Can you not freeze it right there??

I have no dignity left in front of these fish.

“Meowu…” Ruan Chen turned his head in mortified irritation, pointing his butt squarely at the screen.

He would absolutely never admit that was him.

Thinking Ruan Chen was scared again upon seeing the Zerg, Lux spoke softly to soothe him. “It’s already dead. Don’t be afraid.”

He handed the half-empty baby bottle back to Ruan Chen.

Seeing that contraption only made the latter angrier. The baby bottle went flying once more. “Meow-ow-ow. (Get lost.)”

“He’s a little cranky.” Vincent stroked his chin. “Take him out to coax him. I’ll report this incident to the defense department.”

“Mm.” Lux carried Ruan Chen out of the monitoring room for the time being. “Ruan Ruan.”

He pointed out the weapon aimed right outside the window for Ruan Chen to see. “The Zerg from just now has already been incinerated into ashes. It won’t harm you.”

Ruan Chen lifted his head, shooting a thoroughly uninterested glance at the device that looked like a laser cannon.

His eyebrows remained slumped. “Meowu… meow meow meow-wu… (You actually let so many mermen see my ugly photo.)”

Ruan Chen mumbled under his breath, “Meow meow meow-ow. (And you fed me with a baby bottle.)”

If he had a voodoo doll to poke, the merman’s doll would definitely be riddled with needles by now.

Suddenly, a thought struck Ruan Chen.

If that giant bug just now wasn’t a hallucination…

Was the game the merman let him play really just a game?

Ruan Chen froze.

He lifted his head to look at the merman. “Meow.”

A few seconds later, his gaze shifted downward, landing on Lux’s waist.

If that was the case…

Then that dream he had the other night, where the little golden merman was wounded by a bug… could that have been real too?

Ruan Chen tentatively reached out his hand, tugging at the hem of Lux’s shirt.

He spoke in a softened tone, “Meowu, meow meow meow? (Can you let me see your waist?)”

He wanted to confirm whether the merman bore the same wound from his dream.

Delighted that the human was taking the initiative to get close to him, Lux naturally consented. “What do you want to do?”

He caught Ruan Chen’s hand. “This shirt is too big. You can’t wear it.”

“Meow-ow.” Since we can’t communicate anyway, Ruan Chen simply reached out and swiftly yanked up the hem of Lux’s shirt.

The merman’s firm, toned abdomen was exposed.

Ruan Chen leaned in closer and indeed discovered a scar on the side of Lux’s waist.

The mark had already faded significantly, looking much smaller than the wound in his dream.

It was likely due to the merman’s incredible healing abilities—after all, his own wounds had vanished after just a few licks from the guy.

Ruan Chen extended a finger and gently tapped Lux’s scar.

Feeling the delicate touch, the muscles on the merman’s waist sensitively contracted.

As if discovering a new continent, Ruan Chen tilted his head. “Meow-ow? (You’re ticklish?)”

The merman lowered his eyes to watch him, offering no reaction.

The chance for revenge has come!

Ruan Chen flashed him a sweet smile. The smile was far too deceptive, so much so that Lux failed to react in time.

Next, he used his small hands to rapidly claw and scratch at the side of Lux’s waist.

The merman let out a low grunt. “Ruan Ruan…”

Ruan Chen’s eyes lit up completely.

Hehehe.

You bastard, so you have something you’re afraid of too?

Ruan Chen redoubled his efforts, launching a full-scale tickle attack on the merman. “Meow meow meow meow! (If I don’t tickle you until you beg for mercy today, I’ll…)”

Before he could finish his fierce declaration, Ruan Chen’s wrists were firmly pinned by Lux in the very next instant.

With a gentle sweep of his tail fin, the merman pinned him flat against the bed.

Uh oh.

Ruan Chen grew instantly alert.

Seeing the merman pull up his shirt, Ruan Chen struggled frantically. “Meow meow meow?! (What are you doing?!)”

Lux chuckled softly. The human’s meager strength carried absolutely zero threat when kicking against him.

A few seconds later, Ruan Chen’s wails echoed through the room: “Meow-wu-wu-wu-wu— (Help, ahhhh!)”

“Meow meow meow meow-wu-wu-wu… (Hahaha stop tickling, big brother stop tickling!)”

“Mew-wu… (I was wrong QAQ)”

By the end of his laughing fit, Ruan Chen couldn’t even make a sound. His two legs rested limply against Lux, completely drained of strength.

His cheeks ached from laughing so hard, and his eyes were brimming with tears.

“Still want to play tricks?” Lux released his wrists, which had already been pinched with a ring of red marks by him.

He knit his brows slightly. “Why are you so fragile?”

Despite his words, he still gently massaged them for Ruan Chen.

Ruan Chen lay flat on the conch bed, panting heavily. He had lost all his dreams, his gaze completely vacant.

Damn it.

This merman…

How does he look so upright and proper, yet he even keeps tabs on a tickle fight just to retaliate?

Talk about a sore loser!

“Mew-wu.” Ruan Chen looked utterly aggrieved.

To make matters worse, the guy was incredibly strong; he stood absolutely no chance in a fight.

His expression made Lux’s heart soften. He pulled him over into his arms. “Angry?”

Ruan Chen turned his head away, ignoring him entirely. “Meow meow meow-wu. (I’m never playing with you again.)”
