Chapter 24
Ye Yumeng switched off the communicator.
Just as he was about to continue eating, he noticed the little snow ferret hugging his hand and sniffing at it.
“Hm? What’s wrong?”
At that moment, he also felt a faint sting in his palm.
He had probably moved too much when forming hand seals just now, accidentally tearing the wound open a little. It was likely bleeding again.
The little snow ferret had probably smelled the blood, which was why it kept sniffing his hand.
“I’m fine, don’t worry.” He reached out and patted the little snow ferret on the head.
The little snow ferret rubbed against his fingers, as if trying to comfort him. There was no trace left of the wariness it had shown when they first met.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Mo Yin walked in from outside. “Caregiver Ye… Bai Shuo?”
Seeing the little snow ferret, Mo Yin froze. “Why is he here?”
“Gugu—gugugu—”
The little snow ferret was equally excited to see Mo Yin. He flipped off the table, landed on the floor, and bounced his way toward him.
‘Ah Yin~~’
Mo Yin instinctively reached out and caught him.
The little snow ferret rolled about excitedly in his arms, then climbed up his arm onto his shoulder, circling around happily.
‘Why did you run all the way here?’ Mo Yin asked after the little one finally calmed down a bit.
‘Hehe, His Majesty hasn’t shown up for days again, so I came to check on him!’
The moment the little snow ferret mentioned business, he immediately grabbed onto Mo Yin’s hair.
‘How is His Majesty? Nurse Little Ye got hurt—is it because something happened to His Majesty?’
Though his mind had regressed badly, Bai Shuo was still quite sharp.
Nurse Little Ye had been transferred to the top-floor ward, and the only one staying on the top floor now was His Majesty. So why he had gotten hurt was not hard to guess.
Before Mo Yin could answer, Ye Yumeng had already walked over.
Since they were communicating through mental power, he naturally could not hear them, so he explained things to Mo Yin instead.
“I picked him up in the corridor. I already notified the activity center, so someone should be here to take him back soon.”
Mo Yin nodded. “Sorry for bothering you. I’ll take him back myself.”
Hearing that Mo Yin was going to take him back, the little snow ferret did not look unhappy.
He nimbly leaped onto Ye Yumeng’s shoulder, then circled behind his neck to the other side and rubbed affectionately against his cheek.
Ye Yumeng smiled and lifted a finger, lightly scratching under the little ferret’s chin.
The little snow ferret narrowed his bead-like eyes as if smiling, making happy little cooing noises in his throat.
Mo Yin looked at the two of them in surprise. When had Caregiver Ye gotten so familiar with Bai Shuo?
Ye Yumeng quickly withdrew his hand.
And the little snow ferret swished his tail, then jumped right back onto Mo Yin’s head, his tiny paws once again digging through his hair.
‘Ah Yin, I like Nurse Little Ye. Can you let him come see me when he has time?’
Hearing that, Mo Yin raised an eyebrow.
The two of them had known each other since childhood. Bai Shuo had always been a clever little rascal, and even after his mind regressed, he was not the type to trust people easily.
‘You like him?’ he asked through mental power. ‘Why?’
This should only be Bai Shuo’s second time meeting Ye Yumeng, right? Had something happened between them that he did not know about?
‘Nurse Little Ye gave me something yummy just now…’
The little snow ferret did not hide anything at all. His tiny paws cupped his cheeks, and his black bead-like eyes sparkled.
‘Wuwuwu, meat is sooo delicious! Eating things feels so blissful!’
Mo Yin frowned. Given Bai Shuo’s physical condition, he should not yet be able to eat normal food. It would put a heavy burden on his organs.
‘You’re not feeling unwell?’
‘Mm, my tummy hurt a lot at first, but Nurse Little Ye rubbed it for me, and then it stopped hurting!’
The little snow ferret said excitedly, ‘Let him come see me from now on! He can bring me yummy food every day, and after I finish eating, he can rub my tummy for me!’
Mo Yin’s brows furrowed even tighter. ‘Your stomach hurt? Does it still hurt now?’
‘It doesn’t hurt anymore! I’m all better now!’
Still, Mo Yin was not reassured. He turned to Ye Yumeng and said, “Caregiver Ye, go ahead and eat. I’ll take him back first.”
He reached out, scooped the little snow ferret up, and headed for the elevator, preparing to take him for an examination.
Although Ye Yumeng had fed the little snow ferret without authorization, which was against the rules, if the test results showed no problems, then…
That would be very telling.
The little snow ferret, however, immediately began to fuss. He had thought Mo Yin was going to take him to see His Majesty, but instead he was being sent straight back to his room.
‘I’m not going back! I want to see His Majesty!’
‘You still haven’t answered me—how is His Majesty now?’
Faced with the little ferret throwing a tantrum, Mo Yin said only one thing: ‘You need to go back for a physical examination now.’
“…”
Though his tone was calm, the little snow ferret instantly quieted down.
Mo Yin always seemed gentle, slow, and easy to talk to, but in the Blade Squad, aside from Guang Ye, the others did not really dare provoke him.
The little snow ferret lay limply in Mo Yin’s hand.
A little deflated, he said, ‘But I really don’t hurt anymore… Is His Majesty okay?’
Hearing the worry in his voice, Mo Yin’s expression softened.
He stroked the little snow ferret’s soft fur and comforted him. “His Majesty is fine now. If you want to see him, then hurry up and heal properly so you can recover.”
‘Okay then…’
Mo Yin carried the little snow ferret into the elevator, but then heard him ask again, ‘So can you let Nurse Little Ye come see me?’
“…”
After watching Mo Yin leave, Ye Yumeng returned to his room and finally got to finish the rest of his breakfast.
After the meal, he went to visit Little Bunny again.
But when he got there, he found the original ward being cleaned. Little Bunny had no idea been transferred somewhere else.
He asked the nursing robot, but because he lacked the proper permissions, he could not get any information. And since he had not exchanged contact details with Ah Mo, he had no way to find him either, so in the end, he could only give up.
Ye Yumeng returned to his room, turned on Do Not Disturb mode, and continued circulating his cultivation technique, digesting the spirit plants he had eaten with breakfast.
The moment he began, he felt his stomach grow warm.
A stream of spiritual power, as gentle as a trickling brook, flowed from his stomach, moved through all the meridians in his body according to the circulation of the technique, and finally returned to his dantian…
Compared to absorbing spiritual energy from the environment, eating spirit plants was far more efficient. Naturally, his cultivation speed also rose!
Ye Yumeng suppressed his joy and continued focusing quietly on his cultivation.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Mo Yin had just finished taking the little snow ferret for his checkup.
‘I told you I’m fine!’
It was very strange—Bai Shuo’s indicators were all normal. There was no organ damage from eating regular food.
‘Does that mean I can eat normal food from now on?’
Bai Shuo looked at his attending physician, Huai Yebai, with a face full of hope. Once he had tasted real food, making him go back to drinking nutrient solution would be pure torture!
He wanted meat! And steaming white rice too!
But his attending physician shook his head.
“You really ate chicken and carrots? Based on the examination data, neither of those two foods is present in your stomach sac.”
Given how weak the little snow ferret’s body was, even nutrient solution took a long time for him to digest and absorb, let alone ordinary food.
He had eaten it just this morning, and now there was no trace of it left? Was that even possible?
‘I’m not lying, I really did eat them!’ the little snow ferret said angrily.
“Let’s wait a bit longer and observe the bowel movement first.”
The attending physician did not continue that line of questioning, instead shifting his attention elsewhere.
After all, these little ancestors had to be coaxed. If they were pushed too hard and their mental power spiraled into upheaval, things would get troublesome.
The little snow ferret was not appeased. He was still huffing angrily when Mo Yin brought him back to his room.
‘I really did eat chicken! If you don’t believe me, ask Nurse Little Ye! Or check the smart brain!’ Bai Shuo continued transmitting through mental power without pause.
There had to be surveillance in the ward. It would show that he really had eaten.
“I’ll look into it. For now, get some good rest,” Mo Yin said.
Sneaking off to the top-floor ward and then undergoing an hour-long examination really had exhausted the little snow ferret.
‘You promised—you’ll let Nurse Little Ye come see me.’
Even as he drifted off to sleep from exhaustion, he still tugged at Mo Yin for a promise. Only after Mo Yin agreed did he finally close his eyes.
Mo Yin shook his head.
He was becoming more and more like a child.
But that Caregiver Ye…
Mo Yin left Bai Shuo’s room, intending to retrieve the surveillance footage, but in the corridor he saw a somewhat familiar figure.
“Are you… Academician Shi Yichun?”
Shi Yichun, who had just stepped out of a ward, looked up instinctively when someone called his name. The grief on his face had not yet had time to fade.
“Y-you are… Major Mo?” He looked the silver-haired young man over several times before finally matching him to the person in his memory.
But when he saw Mo Yin’s one arm, Shi Yichun’s face clearly showed surprise. “Your hand… how did it…?”
Four years ago, Mo Yin and Shi Yichun had met once before.
Back then, when the insectoid race was ravaging the land, Mo Yin—then still only a major—had led his subordinates to Giant Tree Planet to escort a group of agricultural scientists to safety.
Shi Yichun had been one of them.
Thinking back on that time, and everything that happened afterward, Shi Yichun revealed a smile full of bitterness and hardship.
Without Mo Yin needing to explain anything, he had already guessed how this young and promising officer had lost an arm.
“It’s enough that you’re alive… enough that you’re alive…”
Shi Yichun stepped in front of Mo Yin and patted him hard on the shoulder. “All of you were brave!”
Mo Yin shook his head, his gaze falling on the ward behind him.
“My daughter is staying here.”
Noticing where he was looking, Shi Yichun’s eyes reddened. Seeing an old acquaintance had brought back memories of the past, and his emotions could not help but slip out of control.
“She’s my only child left…”
Though he had already suspected as much, hearing those words still filled Mo Yin with sadness.
He remembered that when Academician Shi had evacuated back then, his wife and two children had been with him.
The older son had inherited his father’s talent and had already been admitted to Yaojin Agricultural Academy, while the younger son had later been assigned to the military.
During the evacuation, that child had kept chatting with him. They had gotten along quite well, and when it was time to say goodbye, the child had even given him a grass rope he had braided himself, saying it would keep him safe.
But who could have imagined…
Shi Yichun patted Mo Yin heavily on the shoulder once more, then turned as if to leave.
But after he had gone only two steps, Mo Yin called out to him again.
The silver-haired young man raised his one arm, revealing the worn and frayed grass rope still tied around his wrist. There were even faint traces of dark red on it.
“This was given to me by your son back then.”
Mo Yin explained, “He said it would keep me safe. I think… you may need it more now.”
Shi Yichun stood frozen for a moment before finally, with trembling hands, untying the grass rope. Then he bowed deeply to Mo Yin.
After watching Mo Yin leave, he returned to the ward he had just stepped out of and, with shaking hands, tied the grass rope around his daughter’s wrist.
On the hospital bed lay a little lamb in pajamas, carefully looked after in every way, sleeping quietly with her eyes closed.
Her breathing was weak, and life-support instruments were attached to her body.
Shi Yichun lovingly stroked the top of his daughter’s head and said softly, “Now that you have your second brother’s blessing, you’ll definitely stay safe and recover your health…”
Top floor of the core inpatient wing.
Inside the ward.
Ye Yumeng opened his eyes and stretched comfortably.
It was already the next morning.
Although he was technically on leave and his body was no longer in any serious trouble, since no one was kicking him out, he shamelessly stayed on and kept eating the work meals here.
Maybe his luck was just good, but out of the past four meals in the last two days, one of them had actually included a spirit plant!
Because of that, the vital essence he had depleted recovered ahead of schedule. Not only had his cultivation returned to its previous level before he got hurt, it had even improved a little.
However, that mental power that had been peeking in on him appeared again last night.
After confirming that the other party meant him no harm, Ye Yumeng simply ignored it and kept his eyes closed as he cultivated. By the time he had completed one minor cycle and turned his attention back outward, that strand of mental power had already left.
After finishing his meal, he tidied up and left the ward, handed the lunch box to the nursing robot, and then saw Mo Yin walking out of Room 005 next door.
“Ah Mo?”
Ye Yumeng blinked. “So Little Bunny was transferred to this room?”
Mo Yin nodded and greeted him.
As Ye Yumeng smiled and responded, Mo Yin observed him without showing it, his eyes carrying an obvious trace of inquiry.
If before he had only suspected, then after seeing the surveillance footage, he could now be certain that this Caregiver Ye was anything but ordinary.
Of course, not in the sense he had previously suspected—not as some kind of spy.
Rather, this Caregiver Ye seemed to possess some sort of ability? Something that could treat patients, or perhaps produce a calming effect of some kind?
That was why His Majesty felt comfortable when he was around, and why Bai Shuo’s stomach pain after eating normal food had eased so quickly.
And also—
Mo Yin recalled the strange yet somehow profound-looking hand gesture Ye Yumeng had made in the surveillance footage before rubbing Bai Shuo’s belly.
That proved Ye Yumeng was clearly aware of his own ability…
Ye Yumeng also quickly noticed that something was off about Mo Yin, and a trace of confusion appeared on his face.
Mo Yin composed himself and asked with concern, “How is your body recovering? Do you need the doctor to take another look?”
Yesterday afternoon, the doctor had only done a routine checkup on Ye Yumeng in his room. After being exposed to the mysterious fire, the only injuries to his hands were ordinary burns. That was extremely rare.
If not for His Majesty’s order that no one was allowed to disturb Ye Yumeng’s rest during these two days, Director Lei and Elder Cheng’s group would probably already have rushed straight to his door.
Ye Yumeng smiled and shook his head. “No need. I’m almost completely better already.”
He glanced at the ward behind Mo Yin. “Can I… go in and see Little Bunny? It seems like… I don’t have permission?”
After Lu Nanzhou had been transferred, Ye Yumeng really had not been granted access to the new room.
But it was not a big issue.
Mo Yin opened his light brain, operated it briefly, then said, “You can now.”
“Okay, thank you!”
Mo Yin watched Ye Yumeng enter the room, then left the top floor, first going to check on Bai Shuo.
The little snow ferret had already gone to the activity room and was enthusiastically telling his companions about his “adventure” from yesterday.
‘Nurse Little Ye gave me meat to eat. That piece of meat smelled amazing! It was so tender and smooth—it was the most delicious meat I’ve ever eaten in my entire life!’
The little snow ferret described it in an exaggerated tone.
In the activity room, whether carnivore or herbivore, even the single plant among them, all listened quietly to his story.
‘But right after I finished eating, my stomach started hurting…’
The little bear cub and the little fox, who had been drooling with envy, immediately looked worried, and the other little comrades also frowned.
Then—
The little snow ferret rubbed his own soft white belly with his paw, which was about the size of an adult human finger.
He continued speaking through mental power.
‘Then Nurse Little Ye rubbed my tummy just like this, and after only a few rubs, my stomach stopped hurting completely!’
‘My whole body felt warm and cozy—super comfortable!’
The moment he finished saying this, the other little animals immediately began to question him.
‘Really? Just rubbing your belly made it stop hurting?’
‘That’s impossible!’
‘I stole a piece of beef tenderloin once and went straight to intensive care! I was stuck there forever before I could come out!’
The little snow ferret instantly became unhappy. ‘Everything I said is true! You can ask Ah Yin! He can see the surveillance footage! It really was just one rub from Nurse Little Ye and it stopped hurting!’
Mo Yin suddenly became the center of attention.
He stood at the door, listening to the chirping and babbling of the little animals around him. Then he glanced at a few of them nearby, their paws pressed against their own bellies, their expressions full of conflict and worry, but also obviously itching to try something…
The corner of Mo Yin’s mouth twitched.
Surely they were not all planning to run to Caregiver Ye and ask him to feed them and rub their stomachs too?
“Don’t listen to him.”
Mo Yin said it casually, then picked the little snow ferret up and carried him back to his room. After confirming that he was lively, energetic, and physically fine, he went to find his attending physician.
“Yes, he already had a bowel movement this morning. We were indeed able to detect traces of chicken and carrot in it. And also…”
“And also what?” Mo Yin asked.
“Since I started treating him, this is the first time I’ve ever seen him produce such complete, beautiful stool. Would you like to take a look?”
“…”
Mo Yin shook his head. “No, thank you.”
A disappointed look appeared on the physician’s face, but he did not insist.
He continued, “What’s strange, though, is that based on the current test results, his organs have not returned to normal. All the data still suggests that he does not yet meet the standards for eating regular food.”
“So my recommendation is to continue observing him for a while longer. For now, it’s still best for him to stick to nutrient solution.”
Mo Yin nodded. “Understood. Please arrange it as you see fit.”
Meanwhile, Ye Yumeng entered the ward.
Because it had only been a temporary transfer, this room was clearly not as thoroughly arranged as the original one had been.
Seeing the young beast curled up on the hospital bed, Ye Yumeng hurried over. Sitting down by the bedside, he said softly, “Little Bunny, I’ve come to see you.”
Lu Nanzhou had known he was coming long ago.
He struggled to force his eyes open a tiny slit. Only after seeing with his own eyes that the little nurse was safe and sound did he finally let out a breath of relief.
“How are you feeling?” the little nurse said with a bright smile. “Did you miss me these past two days?”
“…”
Looking into Ye Yumeng’s clear, captivating eyes, Lu Nanzhou could not help but fall silent.
That wording was far too intimate.
He had only… been worried that Ye Yumeng had been hurt by him.
“Ah.”
Ye Yumeng suddenly thought of something and asked, “So the strand of mental power that came sneaking—sneaking into my room at night these past two days… that wasn’t yours, was it?”
Lu Nanzhou: “…”
He did not feel that he had done anything shameful. The little nurse did not like being disturbed, which was why he had chosen the nighttime.
He just had not expected that the little nurse was not asleep at all—and had even noticed him.
So the little nurse really had awakened beast blood and was not completely unable to sense mental power?
That made Lu Nanzhou somewhat annoyed with himself. If he had been in his prime, he absolutely could have done it without making a sound. There was no way the little nurse would have noticed.
Now that he had already been exposed…
After a moment of silence, he finally used the machine to produce a voice: “Mm.”
Then he added, “I wasn’t sneaking.”
Ye Yumeng froze for a moment, then could not help laughing.
In his mind, he pictured an awkward little boy, and somehow found him rather adorable.
“Mhm, okay, I said it wrong.” He smiled as he spoke, his tone full of indulgence.
“…”
Lu Nanzhou rarely encountered situations like this. He wanted to look away, yet could not help being drawn in by the little nurse’s smile.
“Did I wake you?” he asked after a moment.
“No.”
Ye Yumeng shook his head. He had not been asleep in the first place.
He stretched out a finger and lightly rested it on Little Bunny’s head. Both his hands were still wrapped in bandages, so only his fingertips could touch him.
“Thank you for worrying so much about me.”
That long-lost warmth enveloped Lu Nanzhou once more. The easing of the pain, together with the exhaustion that had tormented him for two days and two nights, quickly swept him toward sleepiness.
And yet he forced his eyelids up. For some reason, Lu Nanzhou did not want to sleep very much at this moment.
He heard the little nurse speaking to him. He tried hard to gather his spirit and listen, but in the end, his consciousness still gradually blurred and drifted away.
After going through all of this, Little Bunny’s life aura had weakened a little again, but thankfully he was already out of critical danger.
District 1.
After shamelessly mooching dinner in the top-floor ward, Ye Yumeng returned to his dorm.
He had not been back for several days, yet the room was still spotless, carefully maintained by the robot dog Wugang.
The moment he walked in, Wugang came trotting toward him with its tail wagging, barking excitedly and happily to welcome him home.
Unless it encountered a specific situation, Wugang would never take the initiative to speak. It really was just like a real little dog.
Ye Yumeng patted its head and said with a smile, “Thanks for watching the house these past few days.”
“Woof woof!”
It had probably scanned the bandages and determined that he was injured, because it thoughtfully avoided his wound and only rubbed its head against his fingertips.
Ye Yumeng played with the robot dog for a while, then took his notebook out of its storage compartment, walked to the desk, opened it, and began writing down the new information he had gathered over the past few days.
First, Little Bunny.
A kind of black-red flame would appear on his body. Its power was extremely tyrannical and overbearing, not something one could touch lightly.
And from this incident, he had also learned one more thing—
When a patient’s bloodline or mental power erupted into frenzy, it would have a tremendous effect on the people around them, even to the point of suppressing others until they could not move.
Nothing like this had ever appeared in the original host’s memories, which meant the Xihe Federation did not have bloodline suppression.
As for mental power, the people of Xihe did not possess that either, so the fact that he had not been affected did not strike Director Lei or Ah Mo as strange.
In fact, the Royal Sanatorium had probably recruited nurses and medical staff all the way from the Xihe Federation precisely because they valued this point.
Which also meant that, aside from Little Bunny, other patients might very well experience the same condition.
And when a patient’s mental power or bloodline fell into frenzy, if the patient could not be calmed in time, unpredictable danger would arise.
On one hand, the outburst would harm the Yaojin people around them. On the other, the frenzy consumed the patient’s body heavily, worsening their illness or injuries.
Ye Yumeng recorded this point and decided to pay special attention to it in future practice.
It might also become one of the main difficulties in treating patients.
After checking that he had not overlooked anything, he added two new patient files:
[Little Kitty (Shan Lan)]
[Little Snow Ferret (Bai Shuo)]
As for Shan Lan, he did not know much. He only knew the little one was very weak, while the specific illness remained unclear.
As for the little snow ferret, Bai Shuo, his spleen and stomach functions were very weak. Even eating just a bit of food would make his stomach hurt.
The spleen and stomach were the source of the body’s energy, the foundation that kept the body functioning. If something was wrong there, naturally the rest of his body could not improve either.
Future treatment for the little snow ferret could begin from that angle…
After finishing both files, Ye Yumeng turned to a new page and began recording the progress of his own cultivation.
Because he had eaten spirit plants while cultivating, not only had he fully recovered, but his cultivation had improved as well.
The cultivation method Ye Yumeng practiced would reach first-stage perfection after nine major cycles, at which point he would gain even more useful divine abilities.
He had always cultivated diligently precisely because he wanted to reach first-stage perfection as early as possible.
After all, back in his previous life in the cultivation world, it had taken him a full three years to get there. Re-cultivating now, his progress was already very fast.
He was now probably a bit more than halfway there. He should be able to cast the Minor Rejuvenation Technique once a day now… Let’s call it 30 points of spiritual power—that made things more intuitive.
Spirit plants.
Ye Yumeng drew a circle around those two words.
If he wanted to improve his cultivation within a short period of time, then spirit plants were the key.
He wrote down the currently feasible methods:
- Work meals;
- Digging them up within the hospital grounds;
- Buying high-grade ingredient dishes from the cafeteria;
- Buying spirit plants and cultivating them himself;
…
As for work meals, the uncertainty was too great. And he could not stay forever in the top-floor ward. Whether the rules allowed it was one issue; the other was that the degree of freedom was simply too low.
As an independent cultivator, Ye Yumeng had long since grown used to scraping by on his own and wandering freely.
He actually did not like this kind of environment, where everything required permission and every action was under surveillance.
Staring at his notes, Ye Yumeng finally wrote down one last word:
[Money]
Leaving aside the first two methods for now, the latter two both required money.
Not just for improving his cultivation—even for basic peace of mind, he needed some savings. Right now, his savings were pitifully low.
So what could he do to make money?
For a moment, Ye Yumeng had no clue.
Ever since arriving on Medical Planet, he had been busy cultivating and working, with no extra time to explore anything. So being completely in the dark was only natural.
He thought for a while, then set down his pen and paper and opened his light brain to start exploring.
Ye Yumeng first checked the medical staff group.
This group included all currently employed medical staff on the entire Medical Planet. Clicking into the categories, he could also see all the subgroups branched off from it.
The Royal Sanatorium, East District Sanatorium, West District Sanatorium, and so on. Under the Royal Sanatorium were further subdivisions by district.
Only those with the appropriate permissions could enter the corresponding groups.
For example, right now Ye Yumeng could only see the main medical staff group, the Royal Sanatorium subgroup, and the core inpatient wing subgroup chat logs.
Perhaps because of the nature of the work, there was not much casual chatter in the branch groups and subdivisions. The main group, on the other hand, was much more active.
After poking around, Ye Yumeng discovered that the restrictions in the main group were very loose. People could even post anonymously.
He kept scrolling upward. He found the way they talked and chatted rather interesting, and as he read on, he suddenly stopped.
Someone had shared a forum thread link in the group, titled:
The Current Lives of Soldiers Retired After the Insectoid War…
Curious, Ye Yumeng tapped it.
The page changed, and an entirely new interface appeared on the light screen. It seemed to be a forum.
Ye Yumeng continued reading the thread from the beginning, and by the time he reached the end, he could not help but sigh inwardly.
It had not even been a year and a half since humanity’s war against the insectoid race ended. The wounds left behind by that war were still very far from healed.
The original poster had visited many veterans who had survived the war, and after obtaining their consent, recorded their stories one by one in the thread.
These soldiers were of different ages. Aside from physical injuries, they also carried mental wounds that were difficult to heal on their own.
Some woke up screaming in the night. Some remained constantly anxious and tense, as if stuck in a state of battle readiness. Others had sunk into depression and suffering because of the loss of comrades and loved ones, unable to move on for a long time…
By seeking out these people and recording their situations, the thread author hoped not only that more people would remember the merits of these ordinary soldiers, but also that they might receive help and advice from the broader public.
[Thread Starter: A Flower]
[To be honest, the Empire has done an excellent job with subsidies for the soldiers. They are not lacking in money. It’s just that some things can’t be bought no matter how much money you have—for example, health.]
[I hope more people will pay attention to these soldiers and help them emerge from the shadow of war as soon as possible.]
There were indeed many people in the thread offering suggestions. The medical staff member who had previously shared the thread in the group was also actively speaking up inside it.
Ye Yumeng learned quite a few new things about everyday care from the thread.
He was reading carefully when, after tapping something by accident, the page suddenly flickered and jumped to the forum homepage.
[Golden Forum – Medical Section]
[[Help] My cub is already six years old but still keeps his beast form. Is that normal? (New)]
[[Featured][Chat] Feeling a bit bored on my day off, opening a Q&A thread for the day [1][2][3]…]
[[Science] Diagnostic methods and common treatment plans for Slates Syndrome…]
Threads on the section homepage refreshed continuously, almost dizzying to look at.
This seemed to be a very high-traffic forum with many different sections—not only medical, but also current affairs, lifestyle, film and television, games, beauty, and more.
Since the written language of the Yaojin Empire and the Xihe Federation did not differ very much, Ye Yumeng was able to read everything without any obstacle at all.
It felt as though he had just opened the door to a whole new world.
He browsed with great excitement, and it was only when a considerate reminder popped up on the light screen telling him to pay attention to eye health that he suddenly snapped back to himself.
Without realizing it, he had spent two whole hours reading forum threads!
This star-network forum was way too interesting!
Ye Yumeng had come from the cultivation world—how could he ever have experienced such a fun and entertaining form of recreation before? He had fallen into it all at once.
Suppressing the urge to keep browsing, he returned to the medical section.
Ye Yumeng had not forgotten that the reason he had opened the light brain to gather information in the first place was to figure out a way to make money.
He kept browsing threads, but now with a specific goal in mind, his efficiency in collecting information rose noticeably.
After about another hour, Ye Yumeng finally stopped browsing. Looking at the notes he had written down in his notebook, he finally had a rough direction.
Golden Forum was the largest discussion website in the Yaojin Empire. Besides the various discussion sections, it also had a marketplace function.
As long as one had an identity certificate, one could freely open a shop in the marketplace, sell second-hand goods, post purchase requests, and so on.
Because the forum had such enormous traffic, it had also brought huge business opportunities to the marketplace. So…
He should be able to sell things there too, right?
As for what to sell, looking at the threads in the medical section, Ye Yumeng had already gotten a few ideas.
He picked up his pen again and began writing in the notebook.
Pills… crossed that out.
Not only were they troublesome to refine, but anything ingested required a quality inspection report, and medicine would obviously require even more complex qualifications to sell online.
Aside from pills, what else?
Ye Yumeng thought carefully, then wrote down a new term.
Talismans.
As a medical cultivator, besides pill refining, he had also studied talismans to a certain extent.
For problems like insomnia, excessive dreaming, or waking in the middle of the night, one could use a Calming Talisman. It did not cure the root cause, but sleep was extremely important for the human body.
If one slept well, many bodily aches and pains would lessen.
Calming Talismans were relatively easy to make, though materials would still need to be gathered.
Ye Yumeng put a check mark behind “talismans,” then continued thinking.
Other than talismans, there was also…
Fitness cultivation technique?
He did not know many techniques, but among them, the most basic Health-Strengthening Qigong was especially suitable for weak and sickly people. Practicing it consistently could strengthen the body, loosen the muscles and bones, replenish vital energy, and even improve the complexion.
This could be filmed as a follow-along video for others to practice with. He had seen related posts in the forum’s exercise section.
The only question was—how would a video be turned into income?
Following that line of thought, Ye Yumeng opened the forum again and kept exploring.
Very quickly, he found a related tutorial.
The tutorials were basically all free to share, which honestly surprised him.
After all, in the cultivation world, every major sect guarded its own methods like precious treasure. Cultivation techniques would never be passed on casually, and for wandering cultivators like him, obtaining cultivation resources was extremely difficult.
Yet in this interstellar world, knowledge was laid open on the internet just like that, and countless people were willing to share it for free.
As long as one was good at searching and looking things up, one could find answers and solutions.
It was incredibly convenient!
He felt like he was liking this world more and more.
Following the tutorial, Ye Yumeng jumped to a new page—
LeapGold Video Network.
Most of the follow-along videos he had seen earlier came from this site, only later being shared to Golden Forum to draw traffic.
The main ways to generate income on LeapGold were threefold: advertising revenue, viewer tips, and paid viewing.
Advertisements were arranged by the video platform itself, so creators did not need to worry about them. As long as they made good-quality videos and worked to retain viewers, the site would directly deposit earnings into their accounts based on completion rates and ad conversions.
For a newcomer like Ye Yumeng, this was practically perfect.
As he searched through posts and learned, fiddling with his light brain all the while, he soon mastered the filming techniques. But after glancing outside at the quiet night, he temporarily shelved his filming plans.
Health-Strengthening Qigong was best practiced in the morning, and its effects were strongest when cultivated under sunlight.
So he simply turned off the device and temporarily withdrew from the star network.
And yet his mind remained in an excited state, itching to reopen the forum and keep scrolling threads.
In that frame of mind, it was not suitable to cultivate.
Ye Yumeng glanced at the bandages on his hands and called for Wugang to bring over the tools, preparing to change his medicine and distract himself.
Removing the bandages, cleaning the wound, applying fresh ointment…
Ye Yumeng did in fact know medical techniques that could accelerate wound healing, but for now, he did not intend to use them.
If the wound healed too quickly, it would definitely attract the doctors’ attention.
Although he had already prepared himself for the possibility of exposing his abilities, he had not yet decided exactly how much to reveal.
The ointment was a little irritating. The moment it touched the wound, the pain made Ye Yumeng bare his teeth and hiss.
After finally applying it, he did not hurry to wrap the bandages again. Instead, he rested his hands on the table, planning to let them air out for a while first.
As moonlight streamed in through the window, the image of Lu Qi standing by the window that night surfaced once more in his mind… It was only then that he remembered that seven days had long since passed since that night, which meant he could use the summoning art again.
Without much hesitation, Ye Yumeng closed his eyes and silently called Xueqiu’s name in his heart.
He wanted to try and see if he could summon Xueqiu this time. Surely he would not end up summoning Lu Qi again, right?
And yet—
When he opened his eyes again, what he saw was the tall figure with golden curls—the same strikingly handsome “ghost” who had been appearing in his thoughts from time to time lately.
Ye Yumeng stared blankly at the gorgeous male ghost who had abruptly appeared in front of him. The other man’s expression was equally bewildered.
“Lu Qi?!”
He cried out in shock.
“You’re not dead! You… wait, no—then why are you dead again?”
The joy of something lost and found again had only just risen when Ye Yumeng abruptly realized something was wrong.
No, that could not be right. The only beings the summoning art could call forth were the dead!
He looked at Lu Nanzhou anxiously. Though he truly wanted to see him again, Ye Yumeng absolutely did not want it to be under circumstances like this.
But as he kept looking, two patches of red slowly bloomed on his cheeks, and Ye Yumeng awkwardly turned his gaze away.
“Y-you should put some clothes on first.”
He said it softly, then could not help sneaking another glance, sympathy welling up in his heart as he thought:
Lu Qi’s partner… would probably have a hard time.
