God-Tier Get Rich System – CH166

Found Them

Chapter 166: Found Them

“You…” The man, threatened and upset, turned to leave—when suddenly crack! A shattering sound rang out.

He rushed out in horror, only to see that while the glass door was intact, all the windows above it had shattered, shards scattered across the ground.

Mu Lantu’s sharp gaze cut into him like twin blades. “Do you think you can run faster than my bullets?”

The man trembled, hurried over, yanked out the steel rod with shaking hands, and bolted.

Mu Lantu shoved hard, slipped past him, and clamped a grip onto his shoulder.

Xu Huazhang shut the door behind them, while three zombies clawed and pounded furiously against the glass.

Drawing his sword, Xu Huazhang thrust it through the crack, killing them one by one.

The man felt as though a thousand pounds pressed on his shoulders, unable to move. Eyes squeezed shut, he screamed in panic: “Ahhh! What do you want?! Let me go! Let me go! Let me—”

“Shut up!” Mu Lantu barked, stuffing a bag of instant noodles into his arms. “This is for you.”

The man dared to peek, but Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang had already vanished.

Relieved, he clutched the noodles tightly, wiped the sweat from his face, half-laughing, half-crying, and ran upstairs.

*

Professor Deng’s home was on the 10th floor.

When they rang the bell, a guarded voice answered, cautious but trembling, “Who are you?”

Mu Lantu raised his ID again, proving himself. “We were sent by the leaders in the capital to escort Professor Deng Tianyu and his family to the Capital. This is my ID.”

The door cracked open, betraying excitement inside, though only slightly ajar.

A man blocked the gap. His clothes were wrinkled, smelling faintly of sweat.

“I am Deng Tianyu.”

Xu Huazhang studied him quietly.

Deng Tianyu—one of the nation’s top virologists, forty-six years old, usually elegant and refined. But now his face was gaunt, weary, and haggard.

“May I see your ID?”

Mu Lantu handed it over calmly.

Deng Tianyu scrutinized it for half a minute before finally relaxing and returning it.

Since Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang carried similar weapons—guns and swords—Deng Tianyu assumed they were on the same team, and didn’t ask to check Xu Huazhang’s documents.

That was a relief. Xu Huazhang, as part of the Blue faction, had no official ID. If asked, they would have been forced to take drastic measures.

“Please, come in.”

Unaware of Xu Huazhang’s wariness, Deng Tianyu invited them inside. Xu Huazhang, cautious, studied the family photos and picture frames to confirm his identity before relaxing.

Mu Lantu introduced himself formally. “Professor Deng, I am Mu Lantu. This is my colleague, Xu Huazhang.”

“Dad, is someone really here to rescue us?”

A tall, thin youth rushed out, about eighteen, fists clenched, lips trembling in excitement, eyes bloodshot and bulging.

“Deng Zhiqi!”

A middle-aged woman followed, holding a girl of twelve or thirteen.

Like Deng Tianyu, the woman’s complexion was sallow, but the two children were well-fed and neatly dressed—proof that the parents had sacrificed their own comfort for them.

Deng Tianyu introduced them. “My wife, Wen Yushu, my daughter Deng Zhixuan. Yushu, this is Mu Lantu, this is Xu Huazhang.”

“A pleasure to meet you,” Mu Lantu greeted politely. Xu Huazhang nodded from behind.

Wen Yushu waved modestly. “Just call me Teacher Wen, and my daughter Zhixuan. This is my son, Deng Zhiqi.”

“Dad, are they really here to take us?” Deng Zhiqi pressed impatiently.

“Yes, they—”

Before his father finished, Deng Zhiqi jumped up. “Great! I’ve been sick of this place for ages! Hey, you got food and water in those bags? Hand it over!”

He lunged for Mu Lantu’s pack, but Xu Huazhang grabbed his wrist and pushed. Deng Zhiqi stumbled back, falling onto the sofa.

Wen Yushu’s worried look turned into satisfaction. She shot her son a glare, then smiled gratefully at Xu Huazhang.

Xu Huazhang set four bottles of water and four packs of biscuits on the coffee table.

Mu Lantu spoke respectfully. “Professor Deng, please restore your strength with this. We have more in the car. But what’s most important now is leaving.”

Hope lit Wen Yushu and the children’s faces.

“Thank you both. These days have been hard…” Deng handed the food and water to his family. “Go pack our things.”

They obeyed, retreating into the bedroom.

“Please sit, don’t rush.” Deng Tianyu poured water for Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang before asking, “How many of you did the leadership send? Can you guarantee our safety? Are we driving, or flying?”

Worry laced every word.

Mu Lantu reassured him. “Our vehicle is an armored SUV. Safety isn’t an issue. Though there are only two of us, our marksmanship and swordsmanship are first-rate. If you have binoculars, check from the window—the zombies outside fell in a single strike. You know the truth: in times like this, more people isn’t safer. More cars, more noise—more risk of attracting the horde.”

Deng Tianyu agreed. “Alright, we’ll go with you!”

They had no choice—power and water had been gone for a week. Supplies would run out in two days at most. Only leaving could mean survival. Beijing, the capital, had to be safer.

Just then, the doorbell rang again.

Xu Huazhang stood first, hand on his gun. “Professor, I’ll check.”

“Alright,” Deng sighed. “Might be neighbors begging for food.”

Through the camera, Xu Huazhang saw two men and a woman. Players. Their aura was distinct from NPCs.

He opened the door, gun raised. “IDs?”

The three instantly understood—he was also Red faction. Without protest, they showed their badges. Same design as Mu Lantu’s, just with different names and numbers: Li Yangqiu, Zhang Xinshuo, Ma Yueyue.

Xu Huazhang returned them. “Our armored car will take Professor Deng’s family.”

“Armored?” Li Yangqiu’s eyes lit up. “If that’s true, no problem.”

The other two nodded.

Xu Huazhang turned to Deng. “Professor, these are our colleagues. Leadership sent a second team to ensure your safety.”

Surprised but pleased, Deng welcomed them.

After introductions, Mu Lantu asked, “What’s your vehicle?”

Zhang Xinshuo sighed. “A van. Runs fine, full tank, but no defenses. Just ordinary glass.”

They’d rushed to secure Deng before the Blue faction could, leaving no time for modifications.

“Any signs of suspicious people?” Mu Lantu asked, meaning Blue faction.

“Not yet,” Li Yangqiu replied.

Mu Lantu, mindful of Deng overhearing, said vaguely, “We’ll need to be cautious—watch out for ambushes.”

The others nodded solemnly.

Soon Deng and his family emerged with four suitcases, he and Wen Yushu also carrying backpacks.

Mu Lantu said, “Huazhang, I’ll take Zhang Xinshuo and Ma Yueyue to load the luggage first. We’ll come back for you.”

“Be careful,” Xu Huazhang reminded.

Deng Tianyu clutched his own pack. “This one I’ll carry myself.”

Mu Lantu guessed it held something important and didn’t insist. The three hauled the suitcases down.

But in the stairwell, they were blocked.

“Are you here for Professor Deng? Please, take us too! We beg you, for the sake of the children!”

A couple with two kids fell to their knees.

“Out of the way!” Zhang Xinshuo barked.

Mu Lantu stopped him, swiftly knocking all four unconscious. “Go, don’t waste time.”

Zhang Xinshuo and Ma Yueyue looked at Mu Lantu with awe. Truly a powerhouse! Their last doubts about him vanished.

“Yes!”

They loaded the luggage into the SUV and returned upstairs. Passing the family again, Mu Lantu revived them briefly, leaving two cans of food as compensation.

When the dazed family finally woke fully, the hall was empty—save for them and the two cans.
