Allergic To Furry Things But Can Pet Them Mentally – CH31

Chapter 31

After leaving Grandpa’s hospital room, Tang Rong held Butler Uncle’s hand and took the elevator back down.

The sense of weightlessness on the way down was strange too. It felt as though some force was lifting him upward, like he was about to float.

Tang Rong immediately lowered his head to look at his feet. They were still firmly on the ground. He had not really floated up after all.

Once they reached the first floor, Butler Uncle led him through turn after turn until they finally arrived at a room that required multiple rounds of identity verification to enter.

A four-year-old child understood none of it and simply obediently stayed by the butler’s side.

The system, however, which had been silently observing everything, caught a whiff of something strange.

Even if its host’s identity was special, there was really no need for an ordinary physical examination to be this strict, was there?

And besides, when the butler first brought its host back from the junk planet, he had already used some instruments to give him a basic examination. There should not have been any major problems. Things like malnutrition could all be adjusted slowly over time.

This whole situation was far too strange.

Unfortunately, the host was still too young, so the system could not discuss any of this with him. It could only keep making quiet guesses to itself.

Finally, after the last layer of verification, Tang Rong entered the room and saw several doctors in white coats.

The lead doctor was a woman of about forty. She had a gentle face. After the butler briefly greeted her, he seemingly casually glanced at one “wall” inside the room.

It was called a wall, but in truth it was a large one-way glass panel. The people on the other side could see everything happening inside the room, while those inside could not see the other side at all.

Its soundproofing was also excellent. Neither side could hear the other. But the communication device had been switched on, so the sounds in the room could be transmitted clearly to the other side.

The butler knew that Mr. Tang and the others were standing behind it, watching everything that happened in the room.

He only looked once before withdrawing his gaze and continuing to discuss Tang Rong’s coming examination with the doctor.

Doctor Lin, as she was called, was not in truth a doctor by profession, but one of the main planet’s finest researchers in spiritual power, especially healing. The others around her were almost all her assistants, except for one pediatrician with a great deal of experience, who was there in case anything unexpected happened during the examination. After all, four years old was still very young. Just as little animals could become stressed easily, it was better to be cautious.

On the other side of the one-way glass, Tang Zheng’en paced back and forth in anxiety.

Because of the defect in his spiritual power, he wore a muzzle and several protective restraints. Together with his naturally sharp and intimidating aura, ordinary people simply would not dare get close to him.

Han Zhi and Shen Chuanqiong stood beside him, not knowing quite how to comfort him. Even they, who were not Xiao Rong’s biological parents, felt nervous and worried in this situation, let alone Tang Zheng’en.

On the other side of the glass, Doctor Lin had already begun examining Tang Rong.

Tang Rong was very obedient. Whatever the doctor told him to do, he did. He cooperated extremely well.

Tang Zheng’en finally stopped pacing and sat down on a stool beside Han Zhi and Shen Chuanqiong, his eyes fixed tensely on the little child in the room.

That was, until—they started drawing blood.

Spiritual power affected every aspect of the human body, so naturally blood contained a great deal of data as well. Drawing blood was unavoidable.

And of course drawing blood hurt. It hurt the moment the needle went in, and it hurt even more when the blood was actually being drawn. Since quite a lot needed to be taken, the pain lasted longer and felt more obvious.

No little child was unafraid of pain, and Tang Rong was no exception.

The instant the needle pierced his skin, a thin layer of mist immediately welled up in his eyes, and a bit of red slowly spread through the rims of them.

But all he did was bite down hard on his lower lip and blink quickly a few times. He did not cry.

Being afraid of pain was one thing. Not being used to crying was another. Pain could be endured, and so could tears.

He was not a child who loved to cry.

The pediatrician at the side had long been prepared to comfort him, only to find there was absolutely nothing for them to do, so they could only stand there uselessly.

The sight made Tang Zheng’en want nothing more than to punch through the one-way glass, rush over, and scoop the little child into his arms to comfort him.

But that was only something he could imagine in his head. If he really punched through the glass, Xiao Rong would probably be frightened into tears on the spot.

The butler also felt pained by the sight. He clenched the candy he had prepared long ago, but did not dare interrupt while the blood draw was still underway.

At last, once the blood draw was over, the butler hurried over to comfort Tang Rong and fed him a piece of candy.

The candy was designed like a pacifier. The sweet was inside the pacifier part, so it could be sucked on, and it had a very good soothing effect on little children.

Tang Rong had been lost at birth, and the grandmother who picked him up had raised him on rice paste. He had never had breast milk, so the pacifier candy felt somewhat unfamiliar to him. Still, following instinct, he quickly got used to sucking on it.

Only the redness around his eyes had not faded. He no longer looked as lively as when he had first arrived. Nestled beside the butler, he looked wilted and droopy, like a little flower that had lost its sunlight.

Just as they were about to begin the next examination, Tang Rong suddenly received a video call.

It was from Shen Muhan.

Tang Rong immediately accepted it.

Seeing this, the butler signaled to everyone in the room—the examination was paused for now. It could continue once the video call ended.

The little crown prince’s optical brain was encrypted to the highest level, just like Tang Rong’s, so there was no risk of the call being monitored or intercepted.

Moreover, from Tang Rong’s angle, the video background only showed the butler’s body and a bit of chair and white wall. None of the testing instruments would be seen, so even if other children in the class saw it, it would not matter.

In truth, it was because he felt sorry for him. Seeing Tang Rong lose all his energy because of the examination, he hoped the little crown prince could cheer him up a bit.

The moment the video connected, Shen Muhan’s face immediately appeared on the optical brain screen.

Judging from the background, he was in the yard outside the kindergarten classroom. The sunlight was excellent, and there were no other children around him. Only he stood in front of the optical brain.

He was holding something in his hand, hidden below the edge of the video, so it was difficult to see clearly.

Before he could raise what he was holding and show it to the screen, Tang Rong let out a weak little whine. “Big Brother Xiao Han… I’m at the hospital doing a health check. They just took so much blood. It hurt a lot.”

Shen Muhan’s expression instantly changed to one of tension. He no longer had the mind to show off the gift he had personally made for Xiao Rong and instead awkwardly began trying to comfort him.

“Big Brother will blow the pain away. Pain, shoo.”

He had learned that from Xiao Rong. Unfortunately, they were not together right now, and through the screen he could not really blow on him.

Seeing Shen Muhan blowing toward the screen for quite a long while, looking both adorable and a little ridiculous, so clumsy and earnest, Tang Rong suddenly broke into a smile, though still a weak one.

The moment Xiao Rong smiled, Shen Muhan rubbed his nose and stopped caring about how silly he looked. As long as Xiao Rong felt better, that was enough.

Thinking that the gift he had prepared would probably improve Xiao Rong’s mood even more, Shen Muhan eagerly lifted the thing in his other hand into view of the video.

“Xiao Rong, I made flowers for you.”

Other people all gave Xiao Rong flowers too, just one or two at a time—so plain and lacking. But he was different. What he gave Xiao Rong was a flower crown and ring woven from many flowers and plants. Much prettier and much more thoughtful than those who only gave a flower or two.

“What are these…?” Tang Rong’s attention was drawn to what Shen Muhan held, and his spirits lifted a little.

Shen Muhan immediately began explaining them one by one, introducing each as he modeled them on himself.

“The biggest one is a flower crown you can wear on your head.” Shen Muhan placed the flower crown on his head.

“The slightly smaller one is a bracelet you can wear on your wrist.” Shen Muhan put the bracelet around his wrist. Xiao Rong was thinner than him, and his wrist was slimmer too, so Shen Muhan had specially made it adjustable.

“And this smallest one is a ring. You can wear it on your finger.” Shen Muhan placed the ring on his ring finger.

He had learned how to make these from his father. His father’s hands were very skillful. Every time they met in virtual space, they would always do some parent-child crafts together.

On the other side of the one-way glass, Tang Zheng’en stared at the flower ring on the little child’s ring finger. His gaze was so intense that it practically seemed ready to burn the fragile ring to ash through the glass and the optical brain screen.

Who taught him to wear a ring on the ring finger??

Tang Zheng’en slowly turned to look at the two parents sitting beside him, his eyes a tangled storm of emotions—disbelief, accusation, anger…

A father’s heart quietly shattered.

Han Zhi & Shen Chuanqiong: “…”

Shen Muhan raised his hand and showed the screen again. “When Xiao Rong comes tomorrow, I’ll put them all on Xiao Rong.”

The old father’s gaze grew even more scorching.

Han Zhi and Shen Chuanqiong sat there like they were on needles.

Child, please stop talking already!!!
