Chapter 2: Damn it! Not an adorable wife, but a…
As a weak little monster, there was a reason Jian Tang had managed to survive in the treacherous and sinister supernatural world until now.
For example, his survival instinct and running speed were absolutely on par with his shapeshifting ability.
The foot he had just stepped inside with retracted like a lightning bolt, and after blurting out, “Sorry, sorry, I went to the wrong door!”, the youth fled at light speed.
He vanished in the blink of an eye.
The man was stunned, his gaze growing colder. He would never let someone who could so easily break into his Safe House walk away.
Just as he was about to give chase, a semi-transparent blue window suddenly popped up before his eyes—a System interface visible only to him.

“…”
On the man’s stern and harsh expression, a rare crack appeared.
Cohabiting spouse?
Whose?
…………Mine?
—
Jian Tang sprinted for his life, reaching the floor below in a flash.
He was absolutely, positively, and 100% certain he hadn’t misread the room number; it was Apartment 404.
Could he have gotten the building number wrong?
Clutching his pounding heart, he searched for the building information at the entrance of the stairwell.
It was Building 44 of Happiness Court. Correct.
He hadn’t gone to the wrong door.
So, what exactly was that?
What he had ordered and customized was an adorable, petite wife. Why was there a fierce, man-eating human hound inside?? The kind that would commit violence with a knife!
Ahhhhhhh, that’s so terrifying!!
Jian Tang was panicking. Trembling, he pulled out his phone to message the black-market merchant, asking if they had sent the wrong item.
The text he sent was quickly returned, along with a System notification—
[The user you are contacting is out of the service area and cannot receive messages.]
“???”
Jian Tang immediately called them, but there was no response. After a few more attempts, the number simply became an invalid number. He couldn’t reach them at all.
A massive bolt of lightning tore through the thick, dark clouds, and a deafening roll of thunder crushed its way across the sky. With a “Whoosh,” a torrential downpour abruptly descended.
Jian Tang’s legs gave out, and he collapsed to the ground.
At this point, how could he not understand?
He had been scammed.
After hundreds of years of hard work, he had been reset to zero overnight. The blood and sweat money he had exhausted himself saving for 999 years had bought him a dangerous, knock-off product that didn’t match the description.
The little monster, having been defrauded by a black-hearted swindler with nowhere to appeal, sat alone in the dark, cold stairwell, staring blankly at the pouring rain outside.
There was no wish fulfilled, no dream come true—only the moment of a shattered heart.
…Why?
Why treat him like this?
He knew he was stupid; even after living for 999 years, he was still just an F-rank little monster. But other monsters just as weak as him at least had a home. When they were tired from work, they could apply to go back to their native plane for a vacation, gather with friends and family to laugh and complain about their idiotic, black-hearted bosses, and then return full of energy after their break ended.
Only him—because he was a wandering refugee, he had no native world to return to. He could only spend year after year in the stingy boss’s underground factory, working like an ox, grinding away at labor.
Wuwuwu.
Wuwuwuwuwu.
So sad.
So, so sad.
He had nothing. He just wanted a tiny home and an adorable human wife to be his family. Was that too much to ask?
Was that an unreasonable wish?
Outside, the sky was pouring rain; Jian Tang’s eyes were raining too. He curled up, feeling cold. The steady drip-drop of his tears fell to the ground, blooming into the shapes of little petals.
Suddenly, sensing something approaching, Jian Tang looked up and met a pair of golden vertical pupils.
Even through tear-blurred eyes, Jian Tang recognized it instantly: it was that black cat he had seen in the alley earlier.
“Y-you… why did you follow me?”
Jian Tang wiped his face in a bedraggled manner and asked with a hoarse voice.
“Do you not have a home either?”
Another massive bolt of lightning streaked across the sky. In the ghastly white flash, Jian Tang saw it clearly: a hint of mockery and sneering appeared in the icy cat pupils staring at him.
Jian Tang: “?”
Before he could look closer, the black cat pounced, effortlessly pinning the youth down and stepping firmly on him.
Jian Tang’s head hit the ground hard, leaving him dazed and utterly unable to muster any strength.
The last thought in his head before he blacked out was—
How can even a little kitten bully me! I must be the unluckiest, most useless little monster in the whole world… wuwu.
The sound of rain continued outside the building, and the dark stairwell returned to silence.
The black cat loomed over the unconscious youth, snorting with disdain.
If the rumors hadn’t been so tight lately, and the dragnet for him getting smaller and smaller, leaving him with no choice, he wouldn’t have picked such a weakling as a transition body.
The black cat lifted a paw, its sharp claws extending from the pads, and swung them viciously toward the youth’s fair neck.
A massive bolt of lightning lit up the sky once more. If anyone had been there, they would have been terrified: clearly, it was a black cat, but the shadow it cast on the ground was that of an incredibly hideous, massive, thick black silhouette.
Suddenly, something streaked through the air, faster than lightning. The raised cat paw was severed in an instant.
The black cat was startled and jerked its head up.
No blood sprayed from the stump of the paw; instead, wisps of black gas emerged. Before the cat could locate the attacker, something else broke through the air, and this time, it severed its tail.
Who is it?!
Another gust of wind came. The black cat barely managed to dodge, but most of the fur on its back was shaved bald.
Three attacks from three different directions. Realizing it had encountered a ruthless expert it couldn’t afford to provoke, the black cat turned to flee.
It put all its might into a leap, and then its expression stiffened.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment. The next second, its body was torn apart—
Dissected directly by sharp threads that had appeared in the air from out of nowhere, it was smashed into several pieces on the spot, spraying out a thick, foul-smelling sludge that collapsed onto the ground, never to move again.
At that moment, every resident in the building subconsciously stopped what they were doing, suspicious and glancing at each other in confusion.
They seemed to have heard… a piercing scream.
Even though there was no real sound, for some reason, they just felt like someone was screaming—a howl and roar so angry and despairing that it almost shook everyone’s soul.
Of course, the residents eventually attributed this eerie feeling to the terrible weather and the roaring thunder, and soon went back to their own business.
In the quiet stairwell, someone walked down the steps from the first floor.
He walked with steady, composed strides, stopping only when he reached that puddle of foul-smelling sludge.
Unlike his half-naked state after just leaving the bathroom, the man was now dressed in a very plain black T-shirt. But because he had such a good physique, he wore the mundane, cheap-looking item with a crisp, intimidating presence.
The man lowered his eyes to look at the sludge for a moment, and a semi-transparent blue panel popped up before him.
[Detection: You have killed one A-rank Evil Seed (Warrant active)]
[Reward: 6,000 Credits total. Details can be viewed in Credit income breakdown.]
[Tasker Feng Xun, overall task ranking increased by 0 places. Current task ranking: 1.]
Feng Xun waved the panel away and walked to the only other person at the scene.
Compared to his ease during the fight, the man wore a rare look of trouble when facing this gentle, harmless, sleeping youth.
He leaned over to check the youth’s breathing and pulled back his eyelids to check on him. After confirming that the youth was only temporarily knocked out by the Evil Seed and that his body was unharmed, he easily hoisted the person onto his shoulder and headed back upstairs.
Three minutes later, Feng Xun returned to Apartment 404.
This Safe House, which he had spent an enormous amount of credits to customize, had an interior that was even simpler—even more crude—than he had imagined.
In the thirty-square-meter living room, there was only an empty display shelf, a tan glass coffee table, and a set of warm yellow sofa chairs.
Feng Xun placed the person on the sofa, and the blue screen panel popped up again.

Feng Xun ignored these messages and did not confirm receipt. Instead, he navigated to a different page and clicked on the online customer service message window.
[After-sales Support: Dear customer, how can I help you today?]
[Feng: I want a refund.]
[After-sales Support: Dear customer, I just checked your order. After a refund, the 80 million credit deposit already paid cannot be returned. The Safe House and the right to reside in this plane will also be fully revoked. Are you sure you want to initiate the refund process?]
[Feng: No, not the Safe House. I want to return the “cohabiting spouse.” I don’t need this feature.]
[After-sales Support: Dear customer, I just checked your order. This feature cannot be unsubscribed. It is deeply bound to your core requirements; to return it, you must return everything.]
[Feng: …]
[Feng: My requirement was to experience an ordinary human life full of the warmth of daily living; I did not request to cohabit with a stranger.]
[After-sales Support: Dear customer, normal interpersonal interactions and the construction of intimate relationships are also an indispensable part of human life. This really cannot be refunded.]
[Feng: …]
[Feng: Change it to a colleague relationship.]
[After-sales Support: Sorry, that is not possible.]
[Feng: Change it to a neighbor relationship.]
[After-sales Support: Sorry, that is not possible.]
[Feng: …]
[Feng: Roommate. Roommates who keep to themselves. That should be fine, right?]
[After-sales Support is currently offline]
[Customer Service AI is online]
[Customer Service AI is thinking deeply]
[Customer Service AI: Based on the user’s question and request, the user exhibits a persona of a trauma patient who fears entering into intimate relationships, or perhaps a socially anxious individual who lacks the confidence to handle family relationships and thus resists intimate social interaction. The user clearly does not realize: avoidance cannot change anything; courageously facing things is the best antidote to healing oneself.]
[Guess you need: A seasoned human intimate relationship psychological consultant, or a clinical psychiatrist with rich experience in trauma treatment.]
“………………”
Feng Xun slapped the blue screen into pieces.
