Chapter 78: About Appetite
After leaving the Ten Thousand Turtles Pool, it was time for dinner.
Si Er was just about to drag Si Xu toward the courtyard outside when Si Xu refused.
“I’ll rest at the academy tonight. Big Brother wants to spend more time with you, and Father also wants to see him.”
“As for me, I used to spend every day with Big Brother. I’m not lacking this little bit of time.”
Si Xu naturally loved family reunions, but he also understood their eldest brother’s feelings and wanted to fulfill his wish.
“Wow, Second Brother!” Si Er couldn’t help but pounce over and hug him. “Second Brother is the best.”
Si Xu chuckled. “It’s nothing. Hurry back—Father and Big Brother are waiting for you.”
“Mhm! I’m going right now.”
Si Er was also looking forward to the barbecue his big brother had prepared. In the blink of an eye, he ran off without a trace.
The nearby students were confused.
“Did something strange just flash past?”
“No idea. It looked like a person-sized rabbit? All white.”
“That’s impossible, right? I didn’t see any fur on it.”
That evening, Si Yi had prepared whole roasted pigs—carefully selected Black Spirit Pigs. He roasted three in total and sent photos of all of them to Yu Beimo. Very quickly, he received a raised middle finger in reply.
Si Yi didn’t care about such a minor provocation. While admiring his perfectly roasted pigs, he replied to Jun Bai’s message.
Si Yi: Take care of your own brother. Watch your own sister.
Si Yi: My little brother is so adorable—I haven’t even looked at him enough yet. Why would I go look at your siblings?
Jun Bai: [Image] [Image] [Image] All of these are yours. Just help me take a few photos of my brother and sister.
Si Yi: Deal!
Si Yi suddenly felt that the four great city lords’ mansions were truly wealthy. Even an eldest young master without real power could produce so many rare light-attribute treasures.
Just helping take a few photos in exchange for these items was practically a zero-cost profit.
Si Yi felt this deal was absolutely worth it.
From afar, he saw Si Er heading toward the Si family courtyard—alone. Si Yi immediately followed.
His feelings toward City Lord Si were complicated. On one hand, he missed him deeply; on the other, he dreaded the inevitable nagging.
Still, they hadn’t seen each other in two or three years. Si Yi felt he could endure two or three days of lectures.
“Big Brother!”
Si Er was delighted when he saw him and ran over to grab his hand.
“Let’s go home together!”
“Alright.”
Si Yi responded calmly, but inside he was screaming.
Ahhh, my little brother is the sweetest in the world!
At the entrance of the Si residence, City Lord Si stood on the doorstep, peering into the distance to see whether his two sons would return for dinner. Instead, he saw the two brothers walking back hand in hand.
He rubbed his eyes in disbelief. He had never expected the two returning sons to be his eldest and youngest.
He knew his eldest had quietly arrived the previous night—but the boy had only gone to see his youngest brother and hadn’t come to visit his old father at all.
City Lord Si had felt a bit displeased, but more than that, he felt heartache. It was because he had stayed to guard the city and rarely returned home, failing to protect his three sons, that his eldest had suffered so much.
After that incident, his son’s temperament had become strange. City Lord Si had wanted to fix things but had always been helpless.
He had thought that even if his eldest returned, he would only look after his two younger brothers and ignore him, his old father.
Yet now the two brothers had come back together.
City Lord Si wiped at his moist eyes and hurried forward. “Yi Yi, Er’er, you came back together?”
Si Yi’s steps faltered. It had been a long time since he had heard the nickname “Yi Yi.”
As a child, he had liked it. He knew it meant “shining brilliantly.”
His father had hoped he would shine brilliantly, and he had believed he would.
But when his legs were suddenly broken, he felt that someone who couldn’t even stand could no longer shine. He had forbidden his father from calling him that.
Now he could stand again, but…
Si Yi felt that with his unstable emotions, perhaps he still couldn’t shine brilliantly.
Yet he no longer rejected the name.
“Father.”
He called out softly, making City Lord Si’s eyes redden even more.
The city lord rushed forward and pulled both sons into a tight embrace.
How wonderful. Two of his sons had returned.
The one who had run away from home was back. The one who had wandered for years was back.
He would clear every obstacle from their paths and ensure they were never hurt again.
“It’s good you’re back. Good. Come inside and eat.”
City Lord Si hadn’t known Si Yi would return today. But it didn’t matter. Whenever he ate at home, the table would always be set with Si Yi and Si Xu’s favorite dishes—even if Si Yi was absent.
Now there was an extra portion for Si Er.
As long as his sons came home, they would always eat well.
However, the feast of dishes prepared by the soul chef that day was destined to be enjoyed only by the soul pets. Once Si Yi set down the three roasted pigs, City Lord Si had the meat dishes cleared away, leaving only two or three vegetable dishes and adding several fruit platters.
If not for balancing the grease, he wouldn’t even have kept the vegetables and fruit. He felt that the three of them couldn’t possibly finish three whole pigs.
He thought to himself that he had a large appetite and could help his sons eat more.
But reality proved he had underestimated them. Both his sons seemed to eat very well.
He wasn’t surprised that Si Yi ate a lot—after all, he had wandered in forests for years, and such wanderers were said to have hearty appetites.
But Si Er…
This youngest son looked cute and slightly slender despite not being short—similar in build to his second brother, Si Xu.
He remembered that his second son didn’t seem to eat much?
Having eaten his fill, Si Yi elegantly wiped his mouth. “Father, actually, Second Brother also eats quite a lot.”
City Lord Si shook his head repeatedly. “Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”
Si Yi smiled. “Why impossible? It’s hereditary.”
City Lord Si continued shaking his head. “But Xu Xu resembles your mother—in appearance and temperament. His appetite should resemble hers too, right?”
“Your mother…”
“Ate even more than Father.”
“Impossible!” City Lord Si slammed the table and stood up. “Yi Yi, your mother had a tiny bird’s appetite!”
Si Yi pressed his forehead. “What tiny bird’s appetite? Mother had an ostrich’s appetite.”
“After every proper meal, she could still eat several plates of pastries, a few fruit platters, and a big bag of peanuts and sunflower seeds.”
“Especially when eating barbecue or fried food, her appetite could be measured by the bucket!”
After a moment’s thought, Si Yi added, “So in that sense, the three of us actually inherited Father. We don’t eat as much as Mother did.”
