Chapter 62: Go Meet Your Uncles
After finishing the potion, Si Xu let out a long whistle to summon back the Sky-Covering Roc, then began reaction training with it.
Only then did Si Er learn that Si Xu was also skilled with a bow and arrow—and extremely accurate.
Each time, he shot three arrows at once, marking out a small area for the condor and making it dodge within that limited space.
The Sky-Covering Roc was rather large, so dodging was somewhat difficult. Even when it deliberately shrank into its juvenile form, it was still quite big.
After dodging, it had to pick up the arrows one by one and bring them back. The Medicine Spirit Bird watched from the side, chuckling gleefully.
After watching for a while, Si Er ran off to observe City Lord Si’s morning training.
City Lord Si had a high cultivation level and many soul pets—seven in total.
He had originally been practicing martial arts with two large sabers on his shoulders. When he saw Si Er approaching, he put the sabers away and began introducing his soul pets.
“Er’er, come greet your seven uncles.”
Si Er blinked. “Uncles?”
City Lord Si smiled. “Mm-hmm. This is your Uncle First Tiger, my first soul pet—the Sacred Flame Golden Tiger.”
Since he introduced it that way, Si Er politely nodded to the large golden tiger.
“Hello, Uncle First Tiger.”
The golden tiger was delighted, feeling that Si Er was very sensible, and promptly stuffed a Fire Antelope into his hands.
Si Er froze again and looked at his father in confusion.
“Father, this is…?”
City Lord Si chuckled. “Accept it. Your Uncle First Tiger is treating you to meat.”
“Fire antelope meat is tender and delicious. They’re not very intelligent and are hard to find—one of the more popular rare meats.”
“Humans and beasts alike enjoy it.”
Only then did Si Er reach out to take the Fire Antelope. “Then thank you, Uncle First Tiger.”
Seeing this, City Lord Si handed him a few small round balls and said with a smile, “These are Exotic Beast Orbs. Each can hold up to fifty exotic beasts.”
“In the future, if you have beasts you don’t need for the time being, you can store them inside.”
Si Er immediately beamed. What a great item!
“Thank you, Father.”
City Lord Si smiled again. “Now come meet your Uncle Second Leopard—my second soul pet, the Flameheart Leopard.”
Si Er realized something: City Lord Si was clearly a feline enthusiast!
After that, he met Uncle Third Lion, Uncle Fourth Cat, Uncle Fifth Margay, Uncle Sixth Lynx, and Uncle Seventh Owl.
Although Uncle Seventh Owl was a bird, it was an owl!
Its head really did resemble a cat’s—round and somewhat goofy-looking, especially adorable.
Si Er couldn’t resist overstepping his bounds and gave it a couple of pats.
Uncle Seventh Owl seemed to like him too. After being petted, it brought him three little guinea pigs.
Overall, these “uncles” were extremely enthusiastic. Each one gifted him fresh meat.
Very fresh. Every single one was lively and bouncing about, even acting cute and obedient right in front of Si Er—making him completely unable to bear eating them.
Si Er thought it might be better to raise them for now. They might not be useful, but they’d make fine pets.
It was much easier to eat prepared meat. Asking him to skin and bleed fluffy little animals himself? He simply couldn’t do it.
Listening to Si Er’s thoughts, City Lord Si felt that his son was a bit too soft-hearted—but he didn’t say anything.
Children always have various ideas. Perhaps when he grew older, his heart would toughen.
Then again, maybe not. After all, Si Er’s upbringing had been different from most.
City Lord Si didn’t know what kind of life Si Er’s soul had lived before, but he knew that for a long time, Si Er’s body had survived thanks to kind villagers and harmless little animals.
Under those circumstances, it was only natural that he couldn’t bear to harm small animals.
Father really loves cats! Big cats, small cats, fake cats—he’s got everything. This is too adorable!
And Father feels a bit like Xuanxuan—they both treat their soul pets like brothers.
One makes me call the soul pets “uncles,” and the other names his soul pets using his own generational characters.
Both approaches are kind of cute. Is this what they mean by “men stay boys at heart”?
City Lord Si’s mouth twitched. Who was like that brat Yu Beixuan?
How could the son of that oddball Yu Lipu possibly resemble him?
Not to mention that brat had designs on his precious son.
But Father also has two top-tier soul pets, so maybe that’s not actually that rare?
City Lord Si: …
[Please! Your father is one of the Four Great City Lords—representing the strongest combat power of the Ten Thousand Beasts Continent.]
[If he didn’t have top-tier soul pets, how could he represent anything?]
[Among the Four Great City Lords, each has an average of two top-tier soul pets!]
Oh, I see. But Father is only a Soul Emperor, right? Aren’t there Soul Sovereigns and Soul Saints above that?
Even though no one on our continent has reached Soul Saint, there should still be a few Soul Sovereigns, right?
[A Soul Emperor means he has at least one seventh-rank soul pet. A seventh-rank soul pet’s strength is roughly equivalent to the Void Refinement stage on the Cang Beast Continent.]
[That level is already extremely strong for this continent. Any stronger, and the continent couldn’t withstand it—it might collapse.]
[So once someone reaches the Soul Sovereign level, they can only retire somewhere and enjoy their later years. They are forbidden from ever making another move.]
[Sigh. In theory, Soul Sovereigns should ascend to the Upper Realm—but there’s no ascension passage.]
Then how many Soul Sovereigns do we have?
[Currently eight. One in each of the Four Great Cities and the Four Great Academies. The one in Dongyao City is your direct great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.]
Si Er scratched his head.
With that many “greats,” there probably isn’t much of a relationship left, right?
[You still share the surname Si—there’s some ancestral connection.]
But I’ve never even offered incense to the old ancestor…
Then he realized the man was only in seclusion, not dead, and hurriedly corrected himself in his thoughts.
No, no, I mean I’ve never paid him a visit. I really hope I’ll get the chance to meet him.
That’s the true top boss of the Ten Thousand Beasts Continent!
City Lord Si felt that wasn’t unreasonable. The next time the old ancestor wanted to see someone, he would bring Si Er along to visit.
“It’s about time. Er’er should head to school.”
City Lord Si looked at his youngest son and sighed, feeling he could never look enough.
He took out a storage ring and slipped it onto Si Er’s finger.
“There are many books about potion-making inside, as well as various potions I’ve refined. Keep them all.”
“The Moonlight Potion you asked me to make is also inside. It works best on the night of a full moon—drink one vial on the fifteenth of each month.”
“Alright. Thank you, Father.”
Si Er was overjoyed.
So this is what it feels like to have a father? He’s so thoughtful, so reliable. When I’m by his side, I feel so safe and warm.
