The Max-Level Boss Just Wants to Be a Slacker [Apocalypse] – CH87

End of the Main Story

Chapter 87: End of the Main Story

The people below the stage stared at the scene in shock. The demonic cultivators had known that their Demon Venerable’s dao companion was capable, but they had never imagined he would be this formidable.

The members of Mo Xiu’s team were thrilled as well. Cheng Cheng and Xiong Gangyong, in particular, were so excited they were practically jumping up and down.

Mo Xiu’s successful strike greatly boosted everyone’s confidence.

Mo Qi also unleashed his spiritual power in coordination with Mo Xiu, and together they launched an assault on the “monster cloud” in the sky. The grotesque cloud, formed from condensed filth, tried to fight back, sending down bolt after bolt of heavenly lightning and injuring quite a few people.

But attacks like that could not cause any real harm to Mo Xiu or Mo Qi.

Mo Qi’s cultivation was profound, and Mo Xiu was a top-tier lightning-type esper. Aside from the beginning, when they had been caught slightly off guard, later on they were even able to shield everyone within the grand formation and protect them from the lightning strikes.

The two sides clashed fiercely amid howling wind and torrential rain. It seemed their efforts during this period had not been in vain. Everyone had grown at an astonishing rate, and the so-called filth was not nearly as powerful as they had imagined.

Yet very soon, Mo Xiu noticed something was wrong. Their attacks appeared evenly matched, and in fact, their momentum seemed even stronger.

But even when the other side took their blows, it was still able to regroup almost immediately, as if it had suffered hardly any damage at all.

In terms of raw strength alone, the enemy might not be that powerful. But if this turned into a prolonged battle of attrition, then it was obvious that their stamina and spiritual power would not be enough to last for long. That would put them at a severe disadvantage.

At the thought of this, Mo Xiu’s eyes filled with worry. He turned to look at Mo Qi beside him, and it was clear the other man had realized the same thing.

Mo Qi frowned and tried sacrificing several top-grade magical artifacts he had just recently refined. In an instant, he dealt the enemy heavy damage.

The pained, shrieking howl from the monster cloud in the sky became even more piercing. The clouds were blasted apart, and a bit of sunlight even managed to shine through.

The others in the team all thought they had seen hope.

But before long, the surrounding clouds began to gather and pile up again. Although it took slightly longer than before, they still recovered to their original form at a frightening speed.

“Not even this works?” Mo Xiu clenched his fists. If even that was useless, then their chances of winning were truly slim.

As he spoke, an extremely thick bolt of heavenly lightning suddenly struck straight down from the sky. And its target was clearly the demonic cultivators standing not far from them within the great formation.

What was it trying to do? Was it mocking the lightning dragon he had summoned at the beginning?

But whatever the enemy’s intentions were, Mo Xiu no longer cared. He threw all his strength into action and quickly unleashed his own power, determined to stop it. He absolutely could not let the people around him be harmed.

With Mo Xiu’s strength, he was fully capable of neutralizing that bolt of heavenly lightning. However, all his attention was focused on saving the others, so he failed to notice that, at the very moment he was using his powers, a mass of black mist so dense it was nearly tangible suddenly shot out from nowhere and struck directly at his back.

The demonic cultivators and the members of the team could only watch helplessly as they shouted warnings to Mo Xiu, but none of them had the power to stop it.

At that critical moment, it was Mo Qi, standing beside him, who reacted first. On one hand, he released his divine sense; on the other, he instinctively stepped in front of Mo Xiu to shield him.

But the barrier of divine sense seemed to do nothing. That strange mist—whatever it was—instantly merged into Mo Qi’s body.

“Mo Qi!” Mo Xiu’s eyes widened at once as he looked anxiously at the man he loved. He should have known—if something dangerous like this happened, then as long as Mo Qi had the chance, he would definitely protect him.

But he had never expected that thing to use a feint like this!

“How can you be this foolish? Are you okay? What’s happening right now?” Mo Xiu grabbed Mo Qi’s arm anxiously, trying to help him.

But he truly had no idea what to do, because he could not see any visible effect after that black mist had entered Mo Qi’s body.

There was no change at all in the man’s expression. He only stood there as if dazed. So Mo Xiu could only make wild guesses about what kind of damage the black mist had caused.

Could it be that the injury did not show on the outside, and that what had been hurt were his internal organs?

“What’s going on? Say something!” Mo Xiu’s eyes had turned red with panic. Only after another dozen seconds or so did the person beside him finally move.

Mo Qi turned his head and looked at Mo Xiu with a somewhat blank expression. His hand unconsciously rested on his stomach, gently rubbing it.

“Why are you rubbing your stomach? Does it hurt? Were your internal organs injured?” If it really was internal damage, then what was he supposed to do? Did the demonic cultivators have some pill that could heal him quickly?

He remembered that the Grand Elder had given them some before, but which one was he supposed to give Mo Qi?

Just as Mo Xiu was at his wit’s end, Mo Qi suddenly let out a burp.

The man turned and met Mo Xiu’s anxious gaze. A strange expression appeared on his face as he said, “Don’t panic. I’m fine. I’m really fine. I’m just… a little too full…”

“Too full?” As soon as Mo Qi said that, the tears that had nearly fallen from Mo Xiu’s eyes seemed to retreat. The others also exchanged baffled looks, clearly unable to understand.

Mo Qi himself, however, remained calm. Leaning close to his companion’s ear, he softly said, “Stay calm.”

Then he lifted his gaze to the sky again and said, “I think I’ve figured out how to deal with this problem.”

After hearing that, Mo Xiu felt as though the entire aura around him had changed slightly. Then Mo Qi slowly moved a few steps and walked to the center of the altar, suddenly spreading his arms wide.

The monster cloud in the sky then transformed into clumps of black mist, the same as before, and was forcibly drawn toward Mo Qi.

The scene before their eyes was truly shocking, though the actual range of its impact was not very large, limited only to the central area of the altar.

Still, Mo Xiu was standing nearby and could feel the tremendous surge of energy.

Yet just as the impact made him feel unwell, a golden halo suddenly appeared before him, wrapping him tightly inside it.

That halo was exceptionally warm. He could feel the faint connection between himself and Mo Qi. The light actually came from their dao companion bond, and it was also Mo Qi’s protection of him.

Mo Xiu was deeply moved. Somehow, he seemed to see behind Mo Qi a phantom shaped like a black panther. But this black panther had long horns, and there seemed to be dark red markings on its body.

It was completely different from the ordinary black panthers he knew. This phantom felt more like some kind of divine beast.

At that moment, Mo Xiu also realized what Mo Qi had meant by solving the problem.

He was devouring the filth.

The shrill wails and screams became more and more distinct. Wrapped in black mist, that thing twisted violently, almost revealing its true form. It looked like a hideous evil ghost that had escaped from hell itself.

But at this moment, all Mo Xiu could sense from it was fear—and a despair born of utter helplessness.

And just like that, the “monster cloud” that had once blotted out the sky was completely absorbed and refined by Mo Qi.

At last, sunlight poured down, and the earlier icy chill in the air vanished without a trace.

Mo Qi raised both hands, then slowly lowered them, making a closing gesture. When he opened his eyes again, his pupils were glowing with a distinct golden light.

“Mo Qi, you… what are you…” Mo Xiu suddenly felt a little uneasy. Somehow, the current Mo Qi seemed a little different.

“There’s actually nothing different,” the other man answered first, as though he could hear Mo Xiu’s thoughts. Then he leaned in and kissed the corner of Mo Xiu’s lips, repeating, “There’s really nothing different.”

“I just remembered many things from the past. Or rather, they’ve become much clearer than before. But none of that matters now. This world is safe now—both this place and the cultivation world.” Mo Qi said this with a smile.

“Really? The filth is just… gone like that? What method did you use just now?” Mo Xiu asked in astonishment, feeling that the victory had come so unexpectedly.

Mo Qi said, “I wouldn’t call it a method. It’s more like a talent. Things like these—ghost plagues and disasters that bring ruin to the world—I can eat them.”

“Eat?” Mo Xiu felt like he had just caught hold of a brand-new word, but to his surprise, the man across from him seriously nodded again.

At that moment, Mo Qi took Mo Xiu’s hand and said earnestly, “The crisis has already been resolved, so don’t dwell on that anymore. Now that everyone’s here and we even have a decent platform, shouldn’t we take advantage of the moment and hold our dao companion ceremony?”

“A dao companion ceremony?” Mo Xiu felt like he was being dazed senseless by one jump in logic after another from the other man.

But clearly, the other demonic cultivators who heard this did not think so at all. Cheng Cheng especially acted immediately, tossing out a pile of seeds to both sides of the altar and then using his plant-type powers to accelerate their growth.

Before long, the entire place was covered in blooming flowers.

“Boss, I’m pretty sharp, right?” Cheng Cheng said proudly.

Mo Qi smiled and nodded. With a casual wave of his hand, he instantly changed both himself and Mo Xiu into two festive sets of ceremonial robes.

The others also sprang into action at top speed. They all had plenty of fine things on them, and changing into new robes was naturally no hardship. As for decorating the place, that was even easier for cultivators.

Watching everything around him transform at a speed visible to the naked eye, Mo Xiu was utterly amazed.

After the altar had been completely decorated, even the Grand Elder volunteered to preside over the ceremony.

Amid everyone’s blessings, Mo Xiu and Mo Qi once again stood at the center of the altar. Mo Xiu touched the ring on his finger—the one Mo Qi had previously given him, containing a thread of his divine soul—and felt as though everything was dreamlike and unreal.

Then he remembered something and took a new ring out of his pocket. He did not know how to forge magical artifacts, but he had also wanted to give Mo Qi a token that represented a promise.

So he had secretly copied the style of the ring Mo Qi gave him and carved a similar one himself.

“Mo Qi, may I put it on for you?” Mo Xiu asked, holding the ring, the tips of his ears flushed red.

At the sight of this, a flash of delight crossed the man’s eyes, and a huge smile immediately spread across his face. He eagerly held out his hand.

The silver ring glittered brightly in the sunlight. At that same moment, countless golden points of light drifted down from the sky. The golden radiance shone over Mo Xiu and Mo Qi—that was the Heavenly Dao’s sincere gratitude and blessing.

Amid everyone’s cheers and smiles, the two people in love stood upon the ceremonial platform with their fingers interlocked, gazing deeply into each other’s eyes.

After the dao companion ceremony, they returned to their residence. Mo Qi suddenly embraced Mo Xiu from behind and softly said, “Mo Xiu, even though we see each other every day, I’ve actually always wanted to tell you—I miss you very much.

“And besides Mo Qi, I actually have another original name. My name is Tenggen.”

“Tenggen…” The moment he heard that name, Mo Xiu’s expression turned dazed. Those two syllables felt both strange and familiar to him, as if he had heard them countless times before.

“I’ll remember it,” Mo Xiu replied softly, then took the initiative to kiss the man in front of him.

Whether he was Mo Qi, Tenggen, or the nameless one from the very beginning, as long as it was him, that was enough.

Perhaps just as in memory, this world would not be their ending.

But none of that mattered, because no matter what kind of world it was, as long as they met each other, it would always be the beginning of their happiness.
