Chapter 241: The Phoenix Fairy Pays a Visit
After staying at the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities for a while with Illya, Chu Feng returned to the Crescent Group.
Not long after he got back, he received a call from Shen Yutong. She sounded panicked—almost on the verge of breaking down.
When Chu Feng hung up, his expression was strange.
Illya noticed. “What’s wrong? Something happen?”
“Not exactly. The life essence liquid I gave to the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities just got snatched by that firebird.” It had been stolen while in the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities’s possession. Since he had already handed it over, the points owed to him still had to be counted.
Illya blinked. “Oh. Why was the Phoenix Fairy at the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities?”
Chu Feng shrugged. “Maybe she’s just bold and likes wandering around the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities.”
Illya: “…”
Just then, Zhuang Cheng burst in, panic written all over his face. “It’s bad—really bad!”
“What’s with you?” Chu Feng crossed his arms, chastising him. “You’re not a kid anymore. Learn to stay calm. Losing your composure over a small matter is embarrassing.”
“This isn’t small!” Zhuang Cheng said urgently. “It’s a big deal!”
Chu Feng raised a brow lazily. “Big deal? What big deal?”
“The Phoenix Fairy is here!”
Chu Feng, who had been smiling calmly, froze. “The Phoenix Fairy? Wasn’t she supposed to be strolling around the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities? Why’s she wandering into our place?”
Zhuang Cheng shook his head. “No idea.”
Chu Feng sighed. “Alright, I’ll go take a look.”
“She’s fast,” Illya remarked.
Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah… just a few minutes ago she was still at the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities. To get here so quickly—her speed’s not much worse than mine as a spatial ability-user…”
When Chu Feng went downstairs, he saw a brightly dressed woman with her hands clasped behind her back, standing in the lobby.
She didn’t look like an uninvited guest—more like a leader inspecting her subordinates. Jin Jie and the others surrounded her warily.
The Phoenix Fairy strolled around the lobby, completely ignoring them. She suddenly stopped in front of Hang Ming.
Hang Ming stiffened under her gaze, visibly nervous.
She sneered. “Losing to a mere human—pathetic!”
Jin Jie and the others didn’t understand, but Hang Ming broke into a cold sweat. The secret he had worked so hard to hide was meaningless before someone of her caliber.
The Phoenix Fairy stepped closer, her presence pressing down on him like a mountain, making his sweat pour.
“Senior, your arrival is an honor—pardon our lack of welcome!” Chu Feng called out loudly.
The Phoenix Fairy turned away from Hang Ming, smiled, and said, “Boss Chu, you finally decided to show yourself.”
“Senior, just call me Chu Feng,” he replied. The word “boss” sounded strange coming from her.
She smiled. “I’m Feng Yan.”
Chu Feng smiled back. “So it’s Senior Feng.”
Feng Yan took out the vial of life essence liquid and shook it. “Yours?”
Chu Feng frowned slightly. “That’s right.”
The Phoenix Woman looked at Chu Feng and said, “This thing is quite interesting.”
“Let’s go upstairs and talk,” Chu Feng said.
“Sure! I was thinking the same thing.”
Jin Jie breathed a huge sigh of relief when she saw the Phoenix Woman leave.
The other ability-users also felt the same weight lifted off their shoulders.
Keeping her voice low, Jin Jie whispered, “That’s an existence beyond S-class, right? Her aura is terrifying!”
Zheng Xue nodded. “Indeed, terrifying!”
The boss was truly the boss—able to remain calm and composed even when facing such a fearsome being, far beyond what the rest of them could manage.
Jin Jie glanced curiously at Hang Ming. “Hang Ming, what did that senior mean when she spoke to you?”
Hang Ming lowered his head. “I don’t know either!”
From his expression, Jin Jie could guess he didn’t want to talk about it, so she didn’t press further.
“That senior seemed rather dissatisfied with you,” Jin Jie remarked, her face showing a hint of puzzlement.
Hang Ming nodded. “Yeah.” It seemed she didn’t even consider it worth killing him, but she clearly wasn’t pleased with him. Luckily, the boss had appeared in time.
“What exactly was that thing in Senior Feng Yan’s hand?” Ji Ping couldn’t help but mutter.
“No idea. Probably something valuable,” Huang Wei replied.
Chu Feng led Feng Yan into the conference room. She sat down opposite him.
Feng Yan shook the vial of Life Spirit Liquid in her hand. “This is pretty good. Got any more?”
Chu Feng shook his head. “No.”
“Really?” she narrowed her eyes.
“Good things are never in large supply,” Chu Feng replied.
She nodded. “True. This isn’t from this world, is it?”
Suppressing his inner shock, Chu Feng asked, “If it’s not from this world, where else could it come from?”
She gave him a look. “Young Master Chu, you know very well, don’t you?”
Chu Feng: “…”
“I heard your ability is spatial transfer—you can travel to other worlds, right?” she said.
“How could such an ability exist?” Chu Feng countered.
Feng Yan smiled faintly. “I find it strange too—how a mere ordinary human like you ended up with such an ability. Must be dumb luck.”
Chu Feng: “…” Sure, call it great fortune or destiny, but did she have to call it dumb luck?
“I’ve always thought it odd—your human life form seems to have changed. Now I think your physique must have been tempered when you crossed a spatial passage,” Feng Yan continued.
Chu Feng thought: So it wasn’t the Life Spirit Liquid or the Void Stone, but passing through the spatial channel itself?
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Chu Feng said flatly.
“No need to be so guarded with me,” she said.
Chu Feng: “…” Easy for her to say.
Illya tilted his head and asked, “Senior, did you come here to ask Chu Feng for help?”
Chu Feng glanced at Illya in surprise—straight to the point as always. The Phoenix Heavenly Maiden showing up like this probably meant she wanted something.
Feng Yan was silent for a moment, then said, “Young Master Chu, you can teleport directly to a location you think of, can’t you?”
Chu Feng frowned inwardly. So she really was looking for a place.
“There are limits. If I have coordinates, I can move directly there. But certain special spaces don’t work that way.”
He’d noticed many mountains once hidden in folded space had partially appeared recently, yet some still remained folded—making them impossible to pinpoint.
But if he’d been there before and remembered the spot, he could teleport to it directly.
“Can’t do it without coordinates?” she asked.
“Of course not. I need some reference point,” Chu Feng replied.
“That makes sense. Most abilities have limits. I’ll confirm the location first, then ask for your help,” Feng Yan said.
Chu Feng smiled. “Alright.”
Any place that interested Feng Yan was bound to be extraordinary, so he was curious too.
Feng Yan gave the vial in her hand another shake. “So there really isn’t any more? I know you’ve traded with the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities. Maybe we can trade as well.”
Chu Feng thought that could be a good thing—someone like the Phoenix Heavenly Maiden surely had plenty of rare items.
“No more for now. But next time I get some, I’ll let you know.”
She narrowed her eyes, then stood up. “We’ll talk next time.”
Unfurling her wings, she flew out the window.
Zhuang Feixue came in. “The Phoenix Heavenly Maiden’s gone?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah, she left.”
Zhuang Feixue let out a breath. “Good. She’s a stunning beauty, sure—but also a walking time bomb. If she suddenly lost her temper, this whole building could be gone. What was she here for?”
“No idea. Maybe just visiting,” Chu Feng said.
“She won’t be dropping by often, will she?”
“I don’t know,” Chu Feng replied.
Later, Chu Feng took Illya back to the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities, where he saw Shen Yutong looking a bit pale.
“Miss Shen, you don’t look so good.”
She gave a bitter smile. “That Phoenix Lady wandered around here for a while and caused quite a mess.”
“I was just over at the Spirit Herb Garden,” Chu Feng said, rubbing his forehead. “The ginseng fruit tree’s still there. She didn’t take it?”
Shen Yutong drew a deep breath. “She only picked the ginseng fruits and left the tree. Told us to take care of it.”
Chu Feng let out a slightly surprised “Ah!” and said, “This senior really doesn’t play by the rules, huh!”
Shen Yutong took a deep breath and said, “She said our National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities has taken good care of it, but frequently moving the fruit tree isn’t good for its growth.”
Shen Yutong gave a wry smile. The National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities had indeed treated the fruit tree well — using high-grade spiritual soil and witch stones to nurture it, and having Mu Linglang tend to it daily. Unfortunately, in the end, all their efforts had been for someone else’s benefit.
The ginseng fruit tree had just produced a batch of ripe fruit, but it would take several more years before the next batch matured.
Perhaps the Phoenix Heavenly Maiden had left the tree with them only to use them as free labor.
Chu Feng propped his chin in his hand. “That Phoenix Lady really has some ideas.”
Shen Yutong smiled bitterly. “Every time she comes, our National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities takes a big hit. The higher-ups are having a headache over her.”
Chu Feng chuckled. “An ancestor like that is definitely hard to deal with.”
Shen Yutong hesitated, then said, “Chu Feng, could you provide some more of that spiritual liquid?”
The appraisal results for the liquid had been astounding, and several researchers were eager to show their skills. But before they could even start, the Phoenix Heavenly Maiden had snatched the potion away. One professor, who had been brimming with anticipation, was so angered that he coughed up blood.
Chu Feng took out a bottle of Life Spiritual Liquid. “Here, take it.”
Shen Yutong was full of gratitude. “Thank you. We’ll convert this into points for you.”
Chu Feng shook his head. “No need, just consider it a gift from me.”
Shen Yutong’s eyes lit up. “In that case, thank you, Young Master Chu. I heard the Phoenix Heavenly Maiden came to see you?”
Chu Feng nodded. “She just dropped by for a visit. Miss Shen, do you know where she went afterward?”
Shen Yutong frowned. “She went out to sea. She asked us for a cruise ship, and after getting it, she sailed away.”
Chu Feng frowned. “A cruise ship? Does she even know how to operate one?”
Shen Yutong thought for a moment. “She seemed to have a few helpers. I don’t know if they were people or transformed demon beasts. Can all demon beasts take human form?”
Chu Feng narrowed his eyes. High-level fierce beasts should be able to transform directly into humans… or it could be a case like Hang Ming.
Chu Feng nodded. “Going out to sea is good! Let her cause trouble there instead of on land.”
Shen Yutong nodded in agreement. “Exactly.”
