Chapter 191: The Kunlun Ruins

After the earthquake, a large number of strange and eerie beasts appeared. Many of the newly emerged creatures had a taste for human flesh.

Many ordinary people who had barely survived the earthquake ended up being devoured.

The military dispatched many teams for rescue missions, but they quickly discovered that they had underestimated the beasts. Many of them had extremely tough bodies, making them hard to injure with conventional weapons. Even more frightening, some of the beasts had abilities.

One unit encountered a bear that could launch spikes from the ground—it even overturned their vehicle.

The internet was flooded with images of these beasts. People across the country were discussing the earthquake and the monsters.

Many believed a new era was beginning.

Chu Feng scanned the area with a compass. The needle spun continuously, glowing with dense clusters of light points.

“So many Witch Stones!”

Illya nodded. “Yes.”

It seemed this earthquake had shaken loose a vast number of Witch Stones.
“This compass isn’t quite precise enough,” Illya said. The one in his hand had been traded from the Qiu Luo shaman and another tribe. It was decent, but with so many new Witch Stones surfacing, Illya felt a higher-precision one was needed.

“The Ability Bureau seems to have developed some good detectors. Maybe we can trade for a few.”

Illya nodded. “That would be good. Your experts here are quite capable.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Maybe.”
It seemed a brainpower-based ability-user had emerged in the Bureau. Originally, this person already had an IQ of 180. After awakening, it had increased to nearly 350. With this person’s addition, the Bureau’s research projects had accelerated significantly.

Chu Feng surveyed over a dozen earthquake sites. Every location had formed a new terrain and detected a large number of Witch Stones.

Many Chinese myths are connected to Mount Kunlun.

At the moment, the skies above Kunlun were shrouded in clouds and mist. Strange-looking birds soared through the sky.

Chu Feng saw several brilliantly feathered birds, resembling the legendary phoenix.

“Everything’s changed overnight, huh.”

Illya nodded. “Yeah! What’s happening here feels a lot like what we’ve experienced back home.”

Chu Feng smiled. “Maybe so.” He wandered around Kunlun and picked up dozens of Witch Stones.

Looking at the stones in his hand, Chu Feng smiled and said, “Jackpot! There are going to be more and more Witch Stones from now on.”

Illya blinked and said, “That may be true, but not everyone can collect them so easily.”

The newly revealed regions held many Witch Stones, but most were hidden in dangerous areas. Chu Feng’s teleportation ability made it easy for him to retrieve them.

“Fair point.”

Chu Feng and Illya were walking in the mountains when a sudden sense of danger surged through them both.

Chu Feng quickly teleported them away—just in time. A massive snake charged toward them.

The serpent’s body was golden, with a single horn on its head, resembling a legendary Jiao Dragon. For some reason, Chu Feng felt that the snake harbored deep hostility toward him.

He released a space blade and slashed at the golden serpent.

The snake sneered and released a massive bolt of lightning from the horn on its head.

Sensing the danger, Chu Feng teleported away the moment the lightning struck.

Boom!

They hadn’t teleported far, and so they were able to witness the golden snake’s destructive power.

A thick lightning bolt tore through the sky, echoing thunderously through the mountains. Its power was immense—Chu Feng could feel the ground trembling violently.
“A snake with lightning powers…” he muttered.

In ancient Chinese myths, there were plenty of tales about beings who could summon storms. Chu Feng had always seen them as absurd, but now, he wasn’t so sure.

He had thought the white snake he’d previously encountered was already formidable—but now, faced with the golden serpent, he dared not think that way again.

His ability may be strong, but it was far from invincible.

“This earthquake may have shaken out quite a few dangerous beings,” said Chu Feng.

Illya puffed out her cheeks and said, “This place of yours is really strange.”

Chu Feng nodded and said, “Who says it isn’t?”

After so many years of schooling—studying geography, physics, biology, chemistry—he thought he understood this planet quite well. But in just one night, all his knowledge seemed to be overturned.

Illya pressed her lips together and said, “I think we shouldn’t stay in Kunlun.”

She had used her compass to survey all the places they had investigated. The highest concentration of witch stones was in Kunlun Ruins, but that area seemed to harbor terrifying high-level beast creatures. Illya felt it was too dangerous.

Chu Feng nodded and said, “Yeah, I think so too.” They had only just entered Kunlun Ruins when they encountered the golden snake. Who knew what more terrifying beasts might lurk inside? Besides, “The environment in Kunlun Ruins seems a bit special—my spatial ability is suppressed there.” When he was facing the golden snake, his original plan was to teleport tens of thousands of kilometers away to a small town. But in reality, he only managed to teleport a few kilometers.

Fortunately, although his ability was suppressed, it still worked—if it had failed, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Chu Feng patted his chest. Although his physique had improved since awakening his powers, he still couldn’t withstand a lightning attack head-on.

Illya tilted her head. “Maybe it sensed that you’ve killed one of its kind before.”

“Can it really sense that kind of thing?” Chu Feng asked skeptically.

Illya nodded. “Maybe. It’s possible.”

Chu Feng thought for a moment and said, “I wonder if that witch beast would be afraid of nuclear weapons.”

Even though that beast was powerful, nuclear weapons were no joke. However, the aftermath of using them was serious, so the government likely wouldn’t deploy them lightly.

“I think we should find a place with lots of Witch Stones and settle down there,” Illya said.

The places experiencing earthquakes were also the areas where witch stones were now most concentrated.

Previously, witch stones were rare and scattered, so they had to travel all over the country to find them. But now it was different.

Illya thought they could pick a place and build a base, then search for witch stones slowly.

Chu Feng nodded. “Good idea.”

The newly emerged mountains likely brought a lot of danger—but also many new resources. From now on, whichever group took the lead in developing these new areas might become a rising power.

Illya smirked and said, “We’ll need Lan Hu to prepare more green silkworm silk.”

Chu Feng nodded. “True.”

They already had nearly two hundred Witch Stones. If someone discovered that, it could cause a major incident.

Wealth attracts greed—two hundred witch stones were enough to make many dability-userate people risk everything.

At that point, even if people knew how strong he was, he’d still have to deal with an endless stream of robbers.

Chu Feng spent a few hours traveling around the earthquake zones across the country before returning to the Capital.

From atop a mountain, he saw an office building.

Illya looked at the building beside the mountain and tilted her head. “That office building is surprisingly intact.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah.”

Post-quake landscapes varied from place to place. Here, a huge mountain had appeared.

Fortunately, the destruction to buildings wasn’t severe. After the quake, a tall building now stood right next to a mountain—half city, half mountainous terrain. It looked rather bizarre.

Chu Feng narrowed his eyes. “What do you think—should I start a company and be the boss?”

Illya nodded. “As long as you like it.”

Chu Feng crossed his arms. The world was likely heading toward chaos. Recruiting a team and becoming a boss might not be a bad idea.

After all, he and Illya only had so much power—there’s strength in numbers.

“What do you think about this building? We could use it as our company headquarters.” Chu Feng pointed at a 30+ story high-rise.

Illya shook her head. “I don’t know. It’s probably expensive.”

Previously, they couldn’t even find a place to live in the Capital and had broken into an empty home.

Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah, buildings in the capital are really valuable.” Some people work their whole lives just to afford a bathroom in Capital—buying an entire building was a dream.

Before awakening his powers, just working in a building like this was unthinkable. But now? Anything was possible.
