Night Talk at the Zhuang Family

Chapter 159: Night Talk at the Zhuang Family

After dinner, Zhuang Zhenyang sat on the sofa, looking at Chu Feng, hesitating to speak.

Chu Feng turned and looked at him. “President Zhuang, is there something you want to say?”

Zhuang Zhenyang hesitated for a moment. “Would you like to join the company?”

Chu Feng shook his head. “No, I wouldn’t.”

Zhuang Zhenyang frowned. “But—”

Chu Feng thought for a moment, then said seriously, “I made a few billion selling jade. I’m really not short on money.”

Zhuang Zhenyang frowned. “But gambling on jade isn’t sustainable. Yangfan Group is worth tens of billions—”

Chu Feng cut him off. “I’m just one person. I don’t need that much money. Besides, working at a company is exhausting. I don’t want to spend my days stressing over performance and profits, going bald in middle age. I want a life where I wake up naturally every day. If I need money, I’ll just sell a few elixirs or some jade—not much, just a billion or two. Then I’ll travel around, enjoy the scenery, live worry-free and free.”

Zhuang Zhenyang: “……” That lifestyle… honestly sounds pretty good. He’s dreamed of that too.

Zhuang Cheng watched as Chu Feng and Illya got into a taxi, feeling a bit of a headache.

Zhuang Feixue looked at him. “What’s wrong?”

Zhuang Cheng shook his head. “Nothing. I just think… next time Second Brother-in-law visits, we should prepare Grandpa’s blood pressure meds in advance.”

The old man really is someone who’s seen it all! He didn’t pass out today—his willpower is truly impressive. Zhuang Cheng couldn’t help but look at him in a new light, while Zhuang Feixue muttered, “Illya’s words really could make someone faint from anger.” She truly broke out in a cold sweat for the old man.

Zhuang Feixue remarked strangely, “I didn’t expect the old man to be taking health supplements.”

She knew that the eldest branch of the family had secretly bought elixirs from her under someone else’s name. She just hadn’t expected that even her grandfather would do something like that behind everyone’s back. Clearly, kidney tonics are a matter of great importance for men—no matter their age.

Zhuang Cheng nodded and said, “You really can’t tell just by looking.”

Being exposed by Illya like that, the old man had lost a lot of face.

After stepping back from the spotlight for so many years, it had probably been a long time since he had been so humiliated. Zhuang Cheng figured their grandfather wouldn’t want to see Illya for quite a while—maybe not even any of their family.

Zhuang Feixue pursed her lips. “Chu Feng said he’s not willing to return to the Zhuang family.”

Zhuang Cheng glanced at his sister and said, “Sis, can’t you tell?”

“Second Brother doesn’t care about the Zhuang family’s money.”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “That seems to be the case.” Honestly, it made sense. When you have more money than you can spend, it’s all just numbers on paper. Chu Feng had made billions gambling on jade stones—even if he feasted daily, it’d still take a long time to spend it all.

And if he couldn’t spend it all, there was no need to make even more. You can’t take it with you when you die.

Chu Feng sat in a taxi and let out a sigh.

Illya looked at him and asked, “What did your father say to you?”

Chu Feng replied, “He asked if I wanted to join the company.”

“And what did you say?” Illya asked.

“I said I didn’t want to.”

Illya blinked and exclaimed, “Really? But being a CEO sounds so impressive!”

Chu Feng leaned back in his seat lazily. “How would you know?”

“That’s how it looks on TV,” she said.

Chu Feng rolled his eyes. “TV lies. CEOs on TV are all young, handsome, rich, and always have free time—either traveling or flirting with women. Real CEOs are nothing like that. They spend all day in meetings, negotiating business, constantly busy, eating poorly, sleeping worse, balding in middle age, and stressed about debt. I already have money. No reason to get mixed up in the Zhuang family’s business.”

Illya nodded. “Seems like after clearing things up with Mr. Zhuang, Chu Feng left the capital and resumed his search for the Witch Stone.”

Back at home, Zhuang Zhenyang sat on the sofa and sighed.

Manqing came downstairs. “What’s wrong?”

Zhuang Zhenyang shook his head. “Nothing. Just… our son’s doing well.”

Though Zhuang Zhenyang was genuinely happy, he still felt a bit defeated. His son was doing just fine—possibly even better than him—and didn’t seem to need any help.

Zhuang Feixue walked into the villa pulling a suitcase.

Zhuang Cheng came downstairs, looking excited. “Sis, you’re back!”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Yeah, I brought some wine over.”

“Did Second Brother send it?” Zhuang Cheng asked.

She nodded again. “Yes.”

“If it’s from Second Brother, it must be good stuff. Is there any for me?”

“There is.”

Zhuang Cheng had asked casually, not expecting an actual yes. Surprised, he beamed. “Really? There’s some for me?”

Zhuang Feixue said, “Chu Feng said you could have some of this wine.”

Zhuang Cheng was touched. “He said that? I didn’t think he still remembered me as his younger brother!”

He’d always thought Chu Feng was a total sister’s boy and treated him like a tagalong. Knowing he got his own share this time really moved him.

“He said it’s called Hundred-Flower Honey Wine. It’s a bit sweet,” Feixue added.

Zhuang Cheng frowned. “Hundred-Flower Honey Wine? That sounds like sugar water.”

Zhuang Feixue shook her head. “It’s not.”

Zhuang Cheng opened the bottle and took a sip. An incredible flavor burst across his tongue like fireworks. Excited, he said, “Delicious! So good! I’ve never tasted anything this amazing before—even if it doesn’t taste like alcohol.”

Feixue silently thought: That’s exactly why I let you have it—it doesn’t taste like alcohol.

Zhuang Cheng hugged the bottle and kept drinking. Before long, he’d downed half of it.

Feixue looked at him and said, “Slow down. It doesn’t taste like alcohol, but it actually has quite a kick.”

Zhuang Cheng gave an awkward laugh. It’s too good! I can’t stop drinking it! Leave it to Second Brother to bring something extraordinary like this. I wonder where he even found it.

“What’s this one called?” Zhuang Cheng crouched and asked.

“Monkey Wine.”

Zhuang Cheng was shocked. “Monkey Wine? Really? The real deal?”

Leave it to Second Brother—he could even get Monkey Wine. It must be real. With him, even the unbelievable usually turned out to be true—like those elixirs and top-grade jade.

Zhuang Zhenyang, who had been sitting stiffly nearby since being caught hoarding the wine earlier, couldn’t stay calm after hearing them talk about Monkey Wine.

Zhuang Cheng hugged the bottle. “I want this one.”

“Honey Wine sounds like something for kids. Monkey Wine sounds legit. Though I’m not giving up on the Honey Wine either.”

Zhuang Feixue hesitated. “It’s pretty strong. If you want to drink it, mix it with Sprite.”

Zhuang Cheng had thought she would say no, so he perked up. “Really? Awesome!”

Their father had gotten some Monkey Wine before and hadn’t shared even a drop. Cheng was dying to know what the authentic stuff tasted like.

Zhuang Zhenyang had been trying to maintain dignity, but when he heard them planning to mix Monkey Wine with Sprite, he couldn’t hold back.

Mixing Monkey Wine with Sprite? How are you supposed to taste anything like that? What a waste! These two brats are ruining a treasure!

He scooted over and shoved Zhuang Cheng aside, saying, “Don’t mess around!”

Zhuang’s father opened a bottle of Monkey Wine, took a sip, and immediately looked stunned. “It’s real… it’s actually real?”

Zhuang Cheng looked at him, confused. “What’s real?”

Zhuang’s father, his face slightly flushed, said, “This wine… it’s authentic Monkey Wine. It’s exactly like the one I drank back in the day!”

After so many years, tasting that familiar flavor again left Zhuang’s father speechless.

He had been searching for Monkey Wine for years with no success. And now, somehow, the wine landed in his hands like this. Truly, the younger generation surpasses the old—his son is deeply impressive!

Zhuang Cheng nodded. “Of course it’s real. Second Brother brought it—he’s clearly not an ordinary person.”

Zhuang’s father looked puzzled. “Where did he get it?”

Zhuang Cheng thought for a moment. “Probably from some deep mountain forest. Second Brother-in-law seems to be from a place like that.”

Zhuang’s father looked at Zhuang Feixue. “Feixue, you don’t even like drinking. These wines…”

Zhuang Feixue replied calmly, “You guys can divide them.”

She had already kept the ones she wanted for herself—these were gifts for her father and brother.

Zhuang’s father reluctantly gave Zhuang Cheng two bottles. “You’re still young. Can’t drink too much. These should be enough.”

If it were anything else, he wouldn’t argue with Zhuang Cheng. But this was wine!

Zhuang Cheng immediately protested. “What a joke! Second Brother said it’s for me—he never said it’s for you!”

“I’m your father!” Zhuang’s father had to pull out the authority card. The two of them bickered until the wine was divided. Afterward, Zhuang Cheng and Zhuang Feixue sat down to chat.

“Sis, I didn’t expect the old man to be taking health elixirs too!” Zhuang Cheng said.

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Yeah.”

Zhuang Cheng shook his head. “Unbelievable. He always looks so fierce and authoritative, but behind the scenes, he’s secretly doing stuff like this.”

Zhuang Feixue: “It is a bit unexpected.”

She felt that the stern, commanding image of the old man in her mind had been shattered.

“He must’ve asked someone to buy elixirs from you. Do you know who it was?” Zhuang Cheng asked.

Zhuang Feixue shook her head. “No idea.”

Too many people came looking for her. She still had work to do every day—no way she could remember everyone.

Zhuang Cheng shook his head. “The old man is so old and still taking elixirs… Probably only I in this family haven’t taken Second Brother’s elixirs.”

Zhuang Feixue thought about it and realized that might be true.

“No wonder the elixir business is so good. Just our family alone consumes a lot.”

Zhuang Feixue nodded, thinking to herself: The Zhuang family indeed goes through quite a lot. And if you count relatives and friends, it’s even scarier.

Zhuang Cheng said, “Sis, I think these elixirs are pretty great.”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Right? Two million per elixir and still sold out in no time.”

Lately, many people had come to her asking to buy elixirs, but she only kept a small portion for herself. If she sold those too, she’d have none left.

Last time she tried to keep some for herself, some relatives forcibly took them, and in the end, she was left with nothing. She made up her mind this time to ignore those people.

Zhuang’s father shook his head, helpless. “That’s enough, you two.”

Even though they were talking about the old man, he felt guilty, as if they were indirectly criticizing him.

Zhuang Cheng shrugged. Dad’s probably feeling embarrassed.

“Feixue, how many elixirs did Chu Feng give you this time?” Zhuang’s father asked.

Zhuang Feixue replied calmly, “Fifty elixirs of each kind.”

Zhuang Cheng tilted his head. “Fifty of each kind… at two million each, that’s… three hundred million!”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Yeah. Almost all sold.”

Zhuang Cheng blinked. “At this rate, Second Brother’s gonna be a billionaire in no time!”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Pretty much.”

Zhuang Cheng looked at her and said, “Sis, I heard you’ve been indulging in food lately, then taking slimming elixirs afterward so you don’t gain weight?”

Zhuang Feixue nodded. “That’s right.”

“Sis, that’s way too extravagant!”

Zhuang Feixue looked at him. “What do you know!”

She hadn’t had milk tea or dessert for two years just to lose weight. Now that she had the chance, of course she wanted to enjoy herself. Over the years, she had saved quite a bit of money.

“Money should be spent where it matters.”

Zhuang Cheng rolled his eyes. “You call that the right place?”

“Better than that brat from the Sun family who blows it all on sports cars!” Zhuang Feixue said.

Zhuang Cheng nodded. “Fair point.”

Sun Hu from the Sun family was a racing enthusiast. After returning, he bought several race cars, spending over 100 million. A few days ago, he and some friends went racing, crashed, and not only destroyed the car (worth 30 million), but also ended up in intensive care, racking up over 10 million in medical bills.

Compared to that, his sister taking elixirs to keep slim didn’t seem so outrageous anymore.
