Chapter 139: In-Demand Elixirs
Zhuang Feixue finished filming for the day, and the director came trotting over excitedly. “Feixue, Chu Feng and Illya have already left the capital, huh?”
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Yeah.” She actually felt a little reluctant about Chu Feng leaving, but she didn’t stop him.
“I can’t get in touch with him. Can you?” the director asked.
Zhuang Feixue gave him a strange look and asked, “Director, are you trying to buy elixirs from him?”
The director scratched his head and nodded sheepishly. “Yeah… I tried calling, but it didn’t go through. Do you have any other way to contact them?”
The director had previously bought two Beauty Elixirs and two Virility Elixirs from Illya. He had taken one of the Virility Elixirs himself, and the effects were surprisingly great. The other one he gave to an investor as a gift—and now that investor was chasing him for more. While he was happy to have pleased his backer, the timing couldn’t be worse, with both Chu Feng and Illya now gone.
“I haven’t been able to reach them either these past few days,” Zhuang Feixue said. “But if you’re looking to buy elixirs, I still have a few.”
The director looked at her in surprise. “Really?”
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Yes.”
Before Chu Feng left, he gave her some elixirs, saying she knew a lot of people and could help with sales. Each elixir was priced at one million, and she’d get a 20% commission. Zhuang Feixue had reluctantly agreed.
She had originally thought it would be hard to sell them. The Beauty Elixirs were okay, but she really couldn’t bring herself to promote the Virility Elixirs. If the entertainment press caught wind of her selling those, she’d be making headlines for sure.
She had even considered taking the elixirs herself if she couldn’t sell them. After all, there were only a bit over ten elixirs—worth just over ten million. Not a huge deal to her.
But now, it seemed they were selling surprisingly well. Several rich housewives had somehow caught wind and were clamoring to buy Beauty Elixirs. She only had one left now.
The fact that the director came to her—could it be for Virility Elixirs? If it were Beauty Elixirs, he probably wouldn’t be sneaking around like this.
At first, she didn’t feel comfortable taking the commission, thinking her little brother worked hard for his money. But now, she realized Chu Feng had it too easy! That 20% commission was no joke. These elixirs basically sold themselves. No wonder he didn’t care about the Zhuang family’s money anymore.
The director, as expected, wanted Virility Elixirs—and bought three in one go.
Zhuang Feixue sold the elixirs with a strange feeling. Illya had been right: the director really did seem… rather weak.
Back at home, Chu Feng saw that he had a lot of missed calls, most of them from Zhuang Feixue. He felt a bit guilty for missing so many—after all, not everyone gets to call a superstar like her.
He called Zhuang Feixue back and chatted for a bit.
Illya glanced at him. “What’s up?”
Chu Feng frowned and said, “My sister says the money from the elixir sales has come in, and the elixirs are really popular. She’s already sold all the ones she had and is asking if we can send more—there are still a lot of pre-orders.”
Illya looked puzzled. “All gone already? That fast?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yup.”
Illya raised an eyebrow. “Guess women really are better at selling things.” Back in the capital, even with all his effort, he hadn’t sold that many. But now, in such a short time, Zhuang Feixue had almost cleared her whole stock.
Chu Feng chuckled. “Maybe the market has finally opened up.” Those who tried the elixirs must’ve realized how good they were.
He looked at Illya and said, “We should make a trip to the capital again—send over another batch of elixirs.”
Illya nodded and said, “I’ll go with you.”
Zhuang Feixue had arranged to meet Chu Feng and Illya at a hotel. When she saw Chu Feng, she let out a sigh of relief.
“You’re finally here. If you’d been any later, I wouldn’t have been able to hold on.”
Chu Feng looked at her in confusion. “What happened?”
Zhuang Feixue rolled her eyes at him and said teasingly, “It’s all because of your elixirs. The Vitality Elixirs you gave me—I sold all of them. I changed the name to Health Tonic elixirs. You don’t mind, right?”
Chu Feng smiled. “Not at all. As long as they sell, it’s fine.”
Zhuang Feixue chuckled. “After I changed the name, many big shots started buying them. They’ve overindulged in wine and women and are physically worn out. Apparently, the elixir works quite well. But with a name like ‘male enhancement,’ many were embarrassed to buy it. After the rename, that concern disappeared. A lot of big names care about wellness. These past few days, tons of people have come to me for the elixirs. Many of them are important figures, hard to turn down. I’ve already got over twenty preorders, just waiting for the next batch.”
“By the way, sis, you didn’t take a cut from the money you transferred to me!” said Chu Feng.
Zhuang Feixue shook her head. “No need. Just giving me the elixirs to sell has already helped me a lot.”
Recently, she had discovered something magical—by selling elixirs for Chu Feng, she had started expanding her network. Many powerful people had come to her, and some even sent her resources.
Although she was from the prestigious Zhuang family, she didn’t have as many resources as outsiders imagined. The family patriarch supported handing the business to her uncle’s side, and her own parents didn’t back her. With all the rising newcomers in the entertainment industry, Zhuang Feixue was under a lot of pressure.
So a bunch of people bringing her resources felt like a timely gift from the heavens.
Chu Feng took out a large bottle of elixirs and handed them to her. “These were all refined by that shaman. He made a lot of the Vitality Elixirs and was worried about how to deal with them. There are about a hundred.”
The main effect of the Vitality Elixirs was kidney nourishment. The formula was relatively mild, so even ordinary people wouldn’t have any issues taking it. Calling it a Health Tonic Elixir wasn’t wrong.
If all hundred were sold, that would bring in around a hundred million yuan. That should last them a while.
Zhuang Feixue looked surprised. “That many?” She had thought the elixirs were rare and precious, but apparently not.
To see so many elixirs packed into a large bottle, like jellybeans, didn’t quite match their million-yuan-a-piece reputation.
“It is a lot,” said Chu Feng. “Just sell them slowly.”
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “Okay. Do you have any more beauty elixirs?”
Chu Feng looked at her and said, “I do. But the effects diminish with repeated use.” The beauty elixir could only improve skin condition and had minimal effect on someone’s actual appearance.
As far as he knew, the elixirs worked better on older individuals with more wrinkles. Zhuang Feixue wasn’t that old and already took good care of herself, so the effect would be most noticeable after the first one or two uses. After that, not so much.
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “I understand. Could the beauty elixir be used as a maintenance supplement?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Technically, yes.” Though, using it like a regular beauty product felt a bit wasteful.
Zhuang Feixue smiled. “That’s good then.”
Chu Feng gave her thirty beauty elixirs.
“Only this many?” she asked.
Chu Feng frowned. “That’s not enough?”
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “There’s a lot of demand.”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” she replied. “A lot of actresses in the industry have been asking about this elixir. Even some of the ones who competed with me for endorsements came shamelessly to ask for it. If this is all we have, I’ll have to sell it sparingly.”
Chu Feng thought to himself: Women really are the best customers! Even a million yuan per elixir can’t stop them from spending like crazy.
“Oh right, sis, about the weight-loss elixir—there might be a finished product soon.”
Zhuang Feixue grabbed his arm. “Are you serious?!”
Chu Feng was startled by her sudden excitement but nodded. “Y-yeah.”
Originally, the shaman had no reason to develop a slimming elixir. The villagers in Crescent Village barely had enough to eat and wanted to gain weight to survive the winter, not lose it. But things had changed.
The shaman found a slimming elixir formula in one of the books Chu Feng had brought him and had started researching it. Animal testing was already done, and human trials were about to begin.
Chu Feng looked at Zhuang Feixue. “Sis, you’re overreacting.”
Zhuang Feixue glared at him. “You don’t understand at all.”
Back when Illya was filming on set, Chu Feng had nothing better to do and kept bringing her delicious food. Watching her eat, Zhuang Feixue was dying of jealousy.
Chu Feng nodded. “I get it.” Making that much money but not being able to enjoy good food—pretty tragic.
Zhuang Feixue shook her head. “You don’t get it! Have you ever spent a whole month eating nothing but boiled cabbage?!”
Chu Feng: “…No. Even when I was dirt poor, I could still afford a meat bun for a yuan.”
“Are you going home?” Zhuang Feixue asked.
Chu Feng gave a faint smile. “Didn’t I already go back once?”
Zhuang Feixue sighed. “Forget it if you don’t want to.”
When she got home and opened the door, she found a few guests inside—some wealthy madams who were close friends of her mother.
“Feixue, you’re back?” Madam Zhuang stood up.
Zhuang Feixue nodded.
“You’re getting prettier and prettier!”
“I saw your latest drama—your acting was excellent!”
“Feixue, when are you getting a boyfriend? Which lucky guy will get you?”
The ladies surrounded her with compliments, making Zhuang Feixue a bit uncomfortable. After flattering her for a while, they finally got to the point, “Feixue, we heard you’ve been selling beauty elixirs and health tonic elixirs lately?”
Zhuang Feixue nodded. “That’s right.”
The reputation of the elixir had recently started to spread, and sales were picking up rapidly. Half of the elixirs Chu Feng gave her were sold within just a few days. The effect of the health-enhancing elixir seemed genuinely good—so many people were buying it now that sales had even surpassed the beauty elixir.
When she had just started selling elixirs, her competitor Zhu Xueying accused her of selling unlicensed, possibly dangerous products. But rumor had it that the same woman secretly sent someone to buy the beauty elixir. No one knew who she sent.
“Feixue, sell me two elixirs,” someone said.
Zhuang Feixue frowned and replied, “This elixir is technically unlicensed and still in the experimental phase. There are some risks. If it gives you a stomach ache, I take no responsibility.”
Zhuang Feixue knew her words were a bit irresponsible, but recently the elixirs were selling like crazy, so she had more confidence now. If people want to buy, great. If not, they can get lost—there were plenty of others who did want them!
“That’s fine,” one of the wealthy ladies said. Their purchasing power was staggering—each of them asked for ten health elixirs, which greatly surprised Zhuang Feixue. She thought to herself: That aunt’s husband looks strong on the outside, but is he really all show and no substance?
That night, Zhuang Feixue sold twelve beauty elixirs and twenty health elixirs. She could’ve sold more beauty elixirs, but she imposed a purchase limit.
