Selling Elixirs

Chapter 137: Selling Elixirs

Time passed quickly during filming, and in the blink of an eye, several days had gone by. When it wasn’t Illya’s turn to shoot, he’d sit to the side munching on snacks. Ever since joining the crew, his mouth practically hadn’t stopped moving. This sparked envy from many actors in the crew who could only survive on fruit meal replacements and gained weight even from drinking water.

“Illya, I heard you sell Elixirs?” the director came over during a break.

Illya nodded and replied, “Yes, one million per elixir—for the Beauty Elixir.”

“I want to buy two,” the director said.

The lead actress and second female lead had both already bought Beauty Elixirs from Illya, and somehow, the word had spread within the crew. In the entertainment industry, even the smallest action by a celebrity can get major attention. Both Zhuang Feixue and Cheng Sisi praised the elixir to the skies, making others quite tempted to try.

A million might be a reasonable price for well-known celebrities, but for minor ones, it was a huge amount. Most people could only fantasize about it.

Illya nodded again, “Sure!”

He was a little surprised—he had originally thought Beauty Elixirs could only be sold to women, but suddenly realized how narrow-minded that was. The men here were just as vain—sometimes even more so.

At first, the director hadn’t believed in the effects, but as the elixir’s reputation spread, even people from neighboring production crews came to inquire. Quite a few even approached the director directly. Seeing how radiant the lead and second leads now looked, he started to believe in the Beauty Elixir more.

“Besides the Beauty Elixir, isn’t there also a… Virility Elixir? I heard it’s quite effective.”

Illya nodded, “Yeah.”

The Virility Elixir was indeed effective, and since the raw materials were plentiful, the shamans had refined quite a few. Unfortunately, there had been no buyers. Illya was considering whether he should lower the price.

“Director, do you need some?” Illya asked, eyes lighting up.

“I have a friend with kidney problems. I’ll buy two elixirs for him,” the director answered.

Illya nodded, “Alright.”

Lately, Illya had sold quite a few Beauty Elixirs, but the Virility Elixir hadn’t seen any interest. Seeing a sale finally happen made him excited. “Director, you don’t look like your kidneys are in great shape either. Why not buy two for yourself?”

Zhuang Feixue walked by and turned her face away speechlessly. These days, the word “friend” was just an excuse for anything! Illya actually believed it.

The director forced a smile and said, “No need, my kidneys are just fine.”

Illya frowned, looking a bit doubtful. “Really? Doesn’t seem like it.”

He didn’t press the issue and handed over the elixirs. The director took them and practically fled.

Zhuang Feixue sat down next to Illya.

Illya furrowed his brows and asked, “Did I say something wrong?”

Zhuang Feixue gave an awkward smile. “Maybe.”

Illya sighed helplessly, feeling like he still didn’t understand this world well enough—he was always saying the wrong things.

“Do you know medicine? How could you tell the director had kidney problems at a glance? You even seemed right.”

Illya shook his head, “No, I’m just sensitive to people’s energy.”

He twirled the card in his hand happily. “Selling elixirs is really profitable.”

Zhuang Feixue smiled, “Seems like it.”

She remembered Illya boasting back at the Zhuang house about opening a shop to sell shady products. At the time, everyone had scoffed. But now it looked like business was booming, and he was making a fortune.

In the entertainment world, plenty of people were willing to spend on beauty. Some celebrities spend tens of millions each year on regular cosmetic procedures. While the Beauty Elixir was expensive, its low risk and high effectiveness made it totally worth it.

“Are my scenes all finished?” Illya asked.

Zhuang Feixue nodded, “Yes.”

Illya let out a breath of relief. “Finally done filming!”

After finishing all his scenes, Illya received a commission of 200,000 yuan.

Since he was still a newcomer and had only just debuted, even with a few additional scenes, he couldn’t compare to the main cast in terms of pay.

Illya frowned. “Filming doesn’t seem as profitable as I imagined.”

Zhuang Feixue said nothing.

“As long as the drama airs, you’re bound to explode in popularity. Once you’re famous, you’ll make a lot more.”

Illya shook his head. “Forget it.”

Zhuang Feixue was puzzled, “You don’t want to be a star anymore?”

“I used to think being a celebrity was fun.” Illya had always been curious about celebrities after watching so many dramas.

“And now?”

Illya smiled. “Now I think selling elixirs to celebrities is even more fun.”

Zhuang Feixue: “…”

Compared to acting, selling elixirs did seem to bring in money faster. In just a few days, Illya had already made nearly ten million. Even Zhuang Feixue was a little envious of that kind of earning power.

“What are your plans after filming?” she asked.

“Going back home,” Illya replied lazily.

Zhuang Feixue frowned, “You’re not staying in the capital?”

Illya shook his head, “Too many people here.”

“But that also means more rich people. Aren’t you trying to sell elixirs to celebrities? There are more of them in the capital. If you go back to a small town, it’ll be harder to sell your products.”

Illya lifted his chin proudly. “My elixirs are good stuff. Sooner or later, they’ll become famous. If someone wants them, they can fly over—or I can ship them.”

After the unpleasant end to the last gathering, Zhuang Feixue’s grandfather seemed to have given up on bringing Chu Feng into the Zhuang family. Chu Feng, in turn, kept his distance from them.

Zhuang Feixue actually liked Chu Feng quite a bit. Zhuang Feilei had always been the “model child” in the family, and Zhuang Feixue never liked that little sister much. Zhuang Cheng, her other sibling, was several years younger, and though their relationship was decent, the age gap was still felt.

Though she hadn’t known Chu Feng for long, she had a good impression of him and was willing to look after him a bit.

When she heard Illya was leaving, Zhuang Feixue felt a little reluctant.

Illya returned to the familiar villa outside the capital.

He collapsed onto the sofa and let out a long breath.

Chu Feng looked at Illya with a hint of confusion. “You look like…”

Illya nodded. “A little. Coming home gives me a sense of peace.”

Chu Feng glanced at Illya and thought to himself: A golden nest or a silver nest isn’t as good as your own dog ‘nest’. He wasn’t the biological son of his adoptive parents, and the old family estate had nothing to do with him anymore. Now, the only place that gave him a sense of security was this villa—though it was rumored to have bad feng shui.

Chu Feng looked at his phone thoughtfully.

Illya looked at him. “What’s wrong?”

Chu Feng tightened his grip on his phone. “It’s nothing. Zhihao asked to meet up. My cousin must’ve realized I’m not really his cousin, so he probably wants to meet and return the commission he earned.”

Illya nodded. “Are you going to meet him?”

Chu Feng nodded back. “Yeah, I’ll go.” Out of both families, the ones he was closest to were Lin Zhihao and Chu Anzhi. He didn’t want their relationship to grow distant just because his identity had been exposed.

Chu Feng walked into the restaurant. Lin Zhihao was already waiting.

“Brother Feng!” Lin Zhihao stood up when he saw Chu Feng enter.

Chu Feng waved his hand. “Sit.”

Lin Zhihao frowned. “Brother Feng, earlier someone named Zhuang Feilei came to see Grandpa. At first, when I heard about the baby mix-up, I couldn’t believe it—it sounded like something straight out of a TV drama. But after confirming it several times, I had to accept it. You were the one who was switched at birth. You were supposed to be the rich young master of a powerful family.”

Chu Feng smiled. “Don’t worry. I’ll always be your Brother Feng.”

Lin Zhihao lowered his head. “Grandpa was really upset. He said no matter what your background is, as long as you acknowledge him, he’ll always be your grandfather.”

Chu Feng nodded, a warm feeling rising in his heart. “I’ll go see him sometime.”

Lin Zhihao bit his lip. “Brother Feng, about the commission—”

Chu Feng waved it off. “What I gave you is yours. Don’t feel guilty. Your Brother Feng isn’t short on money.”

Lin Zhihao frowned. “Are you not going to recognize me as your cousin anymore?”

Chu Feng laughed. “Of course not. You’re still my cousin, aren’t you?”

Lin Zhihao smiled. “Then that’s good.”

“Brother Feng, did you go to the capital to acknowledge your biological family?” The Zhuang family was supposed to be a prestigious clan.

Chu Feng shook his head. “No.”

Lin Zhihao frowned. “Why not?”

Chu Feng shrugged. “Maybe they think I’m an embarrassment.”

Lin Zhihao frowned deeply. “That Zhuang family really doesn’t know a gem when they see one.” In his eyes, ever since Chu Feng won the lottery, he carried an inexplicable aura of someone extraordinary. No ordinary person could compare. “They have no vision.”

“I’m just a delivery guy who didn’t go to college,” Chu Feng said. “To a noble family, I’m a blemish.”

Lin Zhihao frowned. “Heroes come from all walks of life. You’re way more capable than some fancy college grads.”

Chu Feng waved his hand. “You’re too kind. Anyway, how’s the delivery business going?”

Lin Zhihao frowned again. “At first I transferred it to my name, but later I couldn’t manage it, so I rented a warehouse. Brother Feng, why did you buy so much stuff? Planning to open a supermarket?”

“Something like that… A supermarket’s not a bad idea—but not in this world.”

Lin Zhihao looked at Illya. “Illya, are you a celebrity now?”

Illya nodded. “Yes.”

“I have a neighbor who really likes you. Says you’re her ‘bias’.”

Illya tilted his head. “Bias? Isn’t that a wall?” (He’s an elf, not familiar with slang.)

Chu Feng rolled his eyes. “This girl has no taste! Shouldn’t you be her ‘ultimate’ instead?” With Illya around, those pretty-boy idols were nothing!

Lin Zhihao laughed. “Well, he hasn’t released any work yet. Once he does, he’ll be her ultimate for sure.”

Chu Feng nodded. “That’s more like it.”
