Chapter 129: Double 11 Shopping Festival
Illya took Manning around the real world for two days, then sent him back to the other world.
“Manning, where did you go the past few days?” August asked curiously.
Manning replied awkwardly, “The boss had me handle some business in a nearby village… went on a short trip to the real world.”
He still hadn’t fully shaken off the dazzle of the modern world. Since the trip was a secret mission, he couldn’t talk to anyone about his excitement. He was thrilled, but also a little lonely because he couldn’t share it.
August looked at Manning. “You seem… different lately.”
Manning looked back at him. “Do I?”
“Maybe I was just too excited after going across the sea. My emotions haven’t quite settled. I’m going to find the shaman,” he said.
August was confused. “You’re going to the shaman again?”
He found it odd that Manning seemed so close to the shaman. Manning was usually timid, yet he got along surprisingly well with Shaman Qiu Luo. It was strange, especially considering the shaman had previously wanted to use poison to control the elf hunters due to the lack of slave collars.
Manning nodded. “Yes.”
August asked, “Aren’t you afraid?” The shaman in Crescent Village was known to be skilled with poisons. August thought he was brave, but even he didn’t dare get too close.
Manning replied calmly, “The shaman is quite nice.”
August forced a dry smile. “Maybe…”
Manning had undergone two plane transfers in a short period. Even with Illya’s protection, his body was still a bit uncomfortable. He had known this could be a side effect when he took the mission, but for the chance to play in the real world for a few days, the discomfort was worth it.
Inside the private villa.
Chu Feng sat on the sofa, reviewing the latest information that had been sent over.
Money makes the world go round. In this world, as long as you throw enough money at something, it becomes easy to solve. Illya looked at Chu Feng and asked curiously, “Did you find out anything?”
Chu Feng nodded and said, “More or less.”
Once you find a breakthrough, the rest becomes easier to dig into. The Zhuang family was a large and powerful clan. The patriarch had two sons — the eldest, Zhuang Zhenhua, and the younger, Zhuang Zhenyang. The subject under investigation appeared to be the son of the younger.
The investigation revealed that the two family branches were fiercely competitive. Although the feudal era had long since ended, some old-fashioned thinking still lingered — like primogeniture and the preference for sons over daughters.
Zhuang Zhenyang clearly had much more business acumen than Zhuang Zhenhua. The eldest joined the main company right after graduation, while the younger was assigned to a debt-ridden subsidiary. But once Zhuang Zhenyang took over, that failing subsidiary rapidly expanded under his management — its scale grew dozens of times.
In contrast, Zhuang Zhenhua’s investments often failed. Compared side by side, many in the business world believed the second son was a genius. Still, the old patriarch seemed to favor the eldest branch. First, because they were the direct heirs, and second, because the eldest son had produced two sons, while the second son only had “two daughters.”
Chu Feng privately suspected that his switch at birth had been due to either a hospital mistake — or perhaps it had been deliberate.
In large families like this, when selecting an heir, not only the sons’ capabilities are considered, but also those of the grandchildren. Although many elders nowadays claim to treat boys and girls equally, deep down they still prefer boys.
Although Zhuang Zhenhua wasn’t particularly impressive, his eldest son — the eldest grandson of the family, Zhuang Zhiyuan — was said to be a genius and highly valued by the patriarch.
Illya, looking at the data, exclaimed, “This Zhuang Feilei is really a winner at life!”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah.”
If there was no mistake, Zhuang Feilei should actually be part of the Chu family. Chu Feng had checked — her birthdate was the exact same as his.
This young lady was quite remarkable — she studied abroad, had many suitors, and several of them were talented and powerful figures. The investigation also revealed that Zhuang Ming, the youngest daughter of the eldest branch, had a fiancé named Li Chengjia who seemed very interested in Zhuang Feilei and was actively pursuing her — and Zhuang Feilei didn’t seem to mind.
Chu Feng felt the Chu family situation was quite a mess. Even with money and powers, it was probably best not to get involved.
He tossed the documents aside and asked, “Wanna go out for a walk?”
Illya looked puzzled. “Don’t you want to meet your family?”
Chu Feng shook his head. “No need. Let nature take its course.”
They were powerful people, after all. For them to just come knocking on his door to claim kinship — it was all too sudden. His original plan was that if his real family wasn’t doing well, he might quietly help out. But it was clear they were living much better than he was — richer, even. So there was no need for him to meddle.
Illya puffed out his cheeks and said, “If you think that’s best, then okay.”
Hearing Chu Feng’s words, Illya secretly sighed in relief. He’d recently watched many dramas — lots involving in-law conflicts — and knew that in this place, marriages often involved parental arrangements and matchmaking. Many couples broke up due to mother-in-law problems.
If Chu Feng had another set of parents, then that meant another set of in-laws — and Illya had no idea how to deal with them.
Parents here also seemed very disapproving of their sons being gay. And not only was he a man, he was a half-elf.
Chu Feng glanced at Illya. “What are you thinking?”
Illya shook his head. “Nothing. It’s nothing.”
Time passed quietly, and before they knew it, it was Double 11 (Singles’ Day).
Illya had been waiting for this day for a long time. The day before, he was already sitting at the computer, ready for battle.
Chu Feng watched his tense, battle-ready posture and was a little speechless.
He thought to himself: Sure, Double 11 has good deals, but I’m not exactly short on money.
Chu Feng picked up his phone and checked his account. Since Illya was using his account, Chu Feng could also see the shopping interface.
The shopping cart list was massive — over 50 pages long.
Chu Feng’s heart skipped a beat when he saw it. He figured the warehouse he’d rented to receive parcels might need an upgrade — it wasn’t going to be enough.
Illya was fully focused on the shopping page, constantly comparing prices.
Chu Feng glanced at the homepage and thought: “Like father, like son.”
Ever since ability users started appearing, they attracted a lot of attention. But the original elites quickly adapted, actively recruiting ability users — and gained huge profits from it.
This year’s Taobao event had invited five ability users to participate in promotions.
Many ability users still had to eat and make a living. Joining an event could net them millions — so many were happy to join in.
Chu Feng felt that in this world, ability users were more like high-tech professionals wielding cutting-edge skills.
Double 11 was lively. One young man even gave a live flying demonstration.
He probably had dreams of flying since childhood. He defied gravity and soared into the sky, earning gasps from the crowd below.
But the reactions were smaller than Chu Feng had expected.
He tilted his head and thought: It seems society is getting more and more accepting of ability users. Maybe soon, they’ll treat them like celebrities instead of making a big fuss.
“Flying! That’s amazing.”
“He broke free from Earth’s gravity!”
“Why isn’t it me who can fly?”
Illya looked at the fast-flying comment stream and smirked. What’s the big deal about flying?
Chu Feng: “Being able to fly is impressive.”
Of course, in the other world, flying wasn’t unusual. After all, many races there could fly — like the Eagle Clan, or the Butterfly Clan…
Illya looked at Chu Feng and said, “If that’s all it takes, then I can do it too.”
Chu Feng turned to look at him and smiled, “Yeah. You’re the most amazing.”
Illya fought hard from midnight until 8 a.m. the next morning. When Chu Feng saw him in the morning, he was still full of energy.
Chu Feng had thought Illya’s shopping craze had cooled down. But after seeing the long list of completed orders on Taobao, he realized he’d been way too optimistic.
Chu Feng was thinking: The Taobao sellers must be making a killing!
On Double 11 (Singles’ Day), Illya was busy sweeping up all kinds of deals and had a very fulfilling day. Neither Chu Feng nor Illya knew that something major had happened that day at the Chu family, thousands of miles away.
The main branch of the Zhuang family officially proposed marriage to the Li family. The Li family patriarch agreed to the marriage, but then Li Chengjia suddenly burst in, declaring that he would marry no one but Zhuang Feilei. This completely disrupted Zhuang Ming’s plans.
Furious, Zhuang Ming blurted out that Zhuang Feilei had type O blood, while Zhuang Zhenyang was type A and his wife was type B—making it biologically impossible for them to have a type O child. In other words, Zhuang Feilei was not a biological member of the Zhuang family. This revelation caused chaos in the Zhuang household.
Chu Feng, completely unaware of these events, had decided to just go with the flow after uncovering the truth about his origins. He resumed his dual life of shuttling between the real world and the alternate world, focusing more of his energy on building up the castle in the other realm.
A few more days passed.
Illya looked at his phone and said, “A lot of the stuff I ordered is finally shipping out, but the logistics are so slow!”
Chu Feng muttered to himself: Well, duh. With so many people shopping on Double 11, of course the warehouses are overloaded. Of course it’s going to be slow!
Chu Feng was suddenly reminded of his days working as a delivery guy. Double 11 was truly a love-hate kind of day—so many deliveries meant more earnings, but also backbreaking exhaustion.
As he and Illya chatted about the courier situation, Chu Linsheng called. Chu Feng answered and spoke with him for a while, then hung up.
Illya looked at him and asked, “What happened? Is Chu Anzhi in trouble again?”
Chu Feng shook his head. “No, someone from the Zhuang family in the capital has come. Seems like they’re here for me.”
Illya asked in confusion, “Did they find out that Zhuang Feilei isn’t really the Zhuang family’s daughter?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Seems like it.”
The Zhuang family really was impressive. After learning something was wrong with his identity, Chu Feng had gone to the hospital from back then but couldn’t find any records. It took Manning’s ability to finally confirm his lineage. How the Zhuang family managed it, Chu Feng didn’t know. He doubted it was just luck that they found someone like Manning. The power of a wealthy family was truly not to be underestimated.
“Why would it come out now though?” Illya asked, puzzled.
Chu Feng smiled. “Maybe because the two Zhuang daughters were fighting over a man.”
Earlier, when Chu Feng had investigated the Zhuang family, he had already sensed something was off. He suspected that someone had deliberately swapped identities back then. When he saw Zhuang Ming’s fiancé obsessively in love with Zhuang Feilei, he knew the truth about his identity would eventually come to light.
“Fighting over a man?” Illya asked curiously.
Chu Feng nodded. “Just my guess.” He glanced at Illya and said, “Let’s go back to the countryside.”
Illya nodded. “Okay.”
