Chapter 52: Who Lost Control? President Lu
The villa was built halfway up the mountain. There was almost no one around. After Shen Chi finally walked out of the villa, only the streetlights and moonlight kept him company.
Oh, and the system.
Although the system usually looked lazy, when it started cursing people now, it did not hold back at all.
[He just let you leave like that?]
[No, where’s his upbringing!]
[He brought you back to the villa, and when you wanted to leave, he actually didn’t send you off?]
[Damn! No wonder he’ll have to chase his wife through a crematorium. Serves him right if he turns into ashes.]
Shen Chi silently shed tears without saying anything. He took out his phone, opened a ride-hailing app, and tried to call a car. But within several kilometers of this area, everything was a rich people’s district. Forget ride-hailing apps—even shared bikes could not be found.
He kept raising the fare, hoping some driver would see it. Otherwise, if he had to walk back to his little shabby room from here, he would have to walk for half a day. He would be exhausted to death.
The system was still ranting, but seeing its poor host, it rarely sighed and advised him, [Human, if you really can’t get a car, why don’t we go back? A real man knows when to bend and when to stand tall. There’s no need to make things hard for ourselves. I refuse to believe that dog Lu Chenzhou would actually throw you out!]
Shen Chi usually looked cold and aloof, but in truth, he was very gentle and easy to talk to. It was just that when facing certain matters, he became extremely stubborn.
Just like now.
He had taken the initiative to say he wanted to leave. Then even if he walked until his legs broke, he would not go back and beg for mercy.
“No need. It’s only a few steps,” he said stubbornly.
The system was dumbfounded. [A few steps?] It screamed, [That’s twenty kilometers!]
Shen Chi said, “Mm. Just twenty kilometers. We can do it.”
The system was completely convinced. [No, I can’t.]
As they spoke, a dazzling high-beam light suddenly appeared behind Shen Chi. The car was moving very fast, and even from far away, the roar of the engine could be heard.
The system was already irritated. At this moment, it would not even spare a dog by the roadside. [Driving with high beams on? Damn it, remember the license plate. I’m going to report him! Isn’t he speeding? Driving that fast—is he rushing to Lord Yan’s place for a late-night snack?]
In the blink of an eye, the car arrived beside Shen Chi. Then came the piercing sound of sudden braking.
The movement was so loud that even the system was startled. Only Shen Chi remained calm, though perhaps it was because his heart had already turned cold that he did not show any panic.
“Shen Chi, get in the car.”
Lu Chenzhou’s icy voice rang beside his ear. Shen Chi blinked, and the tears gathered in his eyes fell again. He did not dare raise his head and only turned his body around.
Lu Chenzhou did not notice. He was impatiently adjusting the pheromone wristband on his wrist.
He had said he did not need this broken thing, but Ji Yanzhi insisted that he wear it. It kept requiring him to raise the value every now and then. With this lousy setting, the numbers would explode with the slightest emotion.
Shen Chi lowered his head and did not immediately get in.
After Lu Chenzhou finished adjusting the wristband, he saw Shen Chi standing there like a homeless little dog, pitiful and disheveled. Something stabbed at his heart. But once he thought of how determined Shen Chi had been to leave, he hardened his heart again and turned cold.
“Shen Chi, are you getting in yourself, or do I have to get out and carry you in?”
His tone was fierce. Shen Chi was in a sensitive state right now, and at this, his body subconsciously trembled. The tears that had finally stopped once again welled up with mist.
He hated himself like this.
Useless, weak, only knowing how to cry, just like trash.
“I’ll get in myself.” His voice was hoarse. He opened the car door. After getting in, he obediently fastened his seatbelt. Under Lu Chenzhou’s cold gaze, he thanked him softly, “Thank you, President Lu.”
A temporary mark should have made two people closer, but right now, their relationship had dropped to freezing point—even worse than when they had first met. Back then, they had only been strangers. Now, the oppressive atmosphere in the car, along with the faintly violent pheromones, made Shen Chi feel unbearably awful.
The weather had already warmed up. Shen Chi had had enough of this stifling space, so he could only say, “President Lu, can I open the window?”
In Lu Chenzhou’s ears, those words meant something else entirely.
He hated him. Hated him so much that he was not even willing to sit in the same car with him?
“What did you say?” He deliberately made things difficult for him. “Louder. I can’t hear you.”
Shen Chi tightly clasped the fingers resting on his knees. Under the other man’s impatient gaze, he could only raise his voice. “I said, can you open the window a little?”
Lu Chenzhou knew he hated him. Hearing this request again, he scoffed and refused expressionlessly. “No.”
As soon as he said that, Shen Chi finally raised his head.
He looked at Lu Chenzhou in disbelief. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the car lights outside and frowned. “President Lu, are you using high beams?”
Only then did Lu Chenzhou react. Shen Chi had angered him so much that he had forgotten to adjust the headlights.
While switching the lights back to low beams, he kept a cold expression. “I was afraid certain people wouldn’t see me, so I deliberately turned on the brightest lights.”
Those words were practically mocking Shen Chi for being blind.
Shen Chi silently swallowed his sarcasm and told himself that this person was only his boss, not anyone special. The fact that he was willing to send him home already counted as having a conscience. How could Shen Chi make demands of others?
So, under the other man’s sarcastic tone, he tried to stay calm and said, “I can see.”
Lu Chenzhou grew even angrier. He pressed the button for the passenger-side window and opened it all the way.
If Shen Chi did not like being in the same car with him, then he would satisfy him.
The sudden wind blew against Shen Chi’s face until it hurt. His eyes, which had just cried, seemed to swell even more. But… it seemed no one cared now.
The road was twenty kilometers long, but because it was nighttime, not much time was wasted.
When Lu Chenzhou stepped on the brakes, the car had not even fully stopped before Shen Chi unbuckled his seatbelt. “Thank you, President Lu. Please be careful on your way back.”
After saying that, he got out and ran.
The polite, distant words had nothing wrong with them, yet they nearly drove Lu Chenzhou insane.
He stared fixedly at Shen Chi’s retreating back. In the end, he cursed, “Fuck.”
Without Omega pheromones to soothe him, his own pheromones faintly showed signs of rioting. Lu Chenzhou roughly pulled out a cigarette. With the sound of the lighter, the cigarette was soon lit.
Shen Chi’s little shabby room was inside the residential area. From outside, one could not see whether the lights in his room were on. But Lu Chenzhou still did not leave for a long time.
His dangerous, sinister gaze remained fixed on the road Shen Chi had taken. He smoked one cigarette after another, countless thoughts flashing through his mind. In the end, all those thoughts turned into a cold laugh.
It was not as if he was cheap. They did not want him. They already had a partner. And he was still shamelessly sticking himself to them?
His phone rang in the quiet night. One second ago, he had still been thinking that he was not someone cheap. The next second, without even looking at the number, he answered and directly questioned, “What? Realized you were wrong?”
On the other end of the phone, Ji Yanzhi took the phone away and looked at the number he had dialed.
That was right.
It was Lu Chenzhou.
