Chapter 3: Left Foot In, You’re Hired
For more than an hour before this, Shen Chi had been sitting so long that his butt was almost numb. Fortunately, the system had been chatting with him, otherwise whoever wanted to sit on this cold bench could sit on it!
However, on the surface, after arriving at the recruitment office and seeing the staff members inside, he revealed a faint smile.
His smile was very light, so light it was almost negligible. Yet his slightly curved eyes somehow made people’s eyes brighten.
The HR staff instantly changed from their previous irritation and looked at him with faces full of pleasant surprise.

“Mr. Shen.”
The following conversation did not contain anything too outrageous. They simply asked about Shen Chi’s past experience and tested his ability to react on the spot.
With such a great Buddha sitting in front of them, among so many applicants, only Shen Chi could remain calm and composed without making a single mistake. That steadiness almost made the staff cry tears of joy.
What was this called? This was the chosen secretary of the Lu Group!
They almost felt that Shen Chi could start work immediately, but the final decision still had to be made by President Lu.
From the moment Shen Chi entered, Lu Chenzhou had been watching him.
The young man was beautiful, just as HR had worried before. Lu Chenzhou did not like people who were too beautiful, but Shen Chi was somewhat different from those people in the past. There was no flattery or fawning in his eyes. They were clean and clear. Only when salary was mentioned did he show a hint of interest.
Sure enough, even the most perfect person had flaws.

Lu Chenzhou’s indifferent expression carried a hint of gloom. He took out a cigarette and, under Shen Chi’s surprised and faintly disgusted gaze, slowly lit it.

Opposite him, Shen Chi had already begun silently complaining.
“Wow, he’s actually smoking in the office. Are you sure this guy has mysophobia? What decent person with mysophobia smokes in the office?”
For a moment, the system could not refute him. Then, it heard Lu Chenzhou suddenly speak.
“You’re hired.”
Lu Chenzhou was already too lazy to waste any more time on hiring a secretary. In any case, the young man in front of him was barely pleasing to the eye.
“You have a three-day probation period.”
This time, it was Shen Chi’s turn to be surprised. “Me? Just like that?”
The rest of HR looked terrified—Secretary Shen, what are you saying!
On the other side, Lu Chenzhou lifted his cold eyes and gave a half-smile. “Secretary Shen entered the office with his left foot first, so you’re hired.”
Shen Chi sat properly like a good child, his face honest. “Wasn’t it my right foot?”
The HR staff nearly jumped up to cover his mouth. Only Lu Chenzhou looked at him expressionlessly.
“Is Mr. Shen dissatisfied with this job?”
Shen Chi immediately shook his head.
Was he joking? He loved his life far too much. How could he possibly be dissatisfied with this job?
“Sorry, President Lu. I was too pleasantly surprised just now, so I remembered wrong. I entered the office with my left foot first.”
As he said this, for some reason, he suddenly felt the back of his neck growing a little hot. There was also a faint swelling sensation, as though something were about to grow out.
There was a medicinal plaster stuck to the back of his neck, but beneath it was also a pheromone-blocking patch.
That dog Alpha had bitten him so hard. Even though a week had passed, there were definitely still pheromone traces left in his body. Thinking of how Lu Chenzhou, this fussy male lead, disliked the smell of pheromones, Shen Chi had specifically put one on.

Out of the corner of his eye, Lu Chenzhou caught sight of the HR manager’s outstretched hand and suddenly stopped walking.
For some unknown reason, he felt a strange emotion arise in him, a hard-to-describe displeasure and anger.
The manager was also a Beta, but he keenly sensed his boss’s anger. He abruptly pulled his hand back, and when he met his boss’s dark, deep gaze, he inexplicably shivered.
He had forgotten. His boss hated physical contact the most!
Secretary Shen was now someone by his side, so perhaps he also hated others touching his secretary.
The manager immediately withdrew his hand and changed it into a smiling wave.
“Secretary Shen, I still have work to do, so I’ll leave first. Oh right, there’s no time like the present. I’ll have someone else take you to complete your onboarding procedures today.”
Shen Chi was now so poor that his pockets were practically jingling. Starting work one day earlier meant earning salary one day earlier. As a corporate slave, he understood the importance of wages very well, so he did not resist and accepted with a smile.
“Then I’ll have to trouble you, Manager.”
The manager chuckled, looking rather simple and honest.
Shen Chi was about to say something else when Lu Chenzhou suddenly spoke.
“Secretary Shen, aren’t you following?”
He was the boss!
Shen Chi took a deep breath. He raised his faint smile again and obediently followed.
“President Lu.”
The two walked a few steps apart, neither too close nor too far.
Shen Chi carefully remembered his mysophobia, his dislike of touching others, and his even greater dislike of others touching him.
