Don’t Pick Up Men by the Road!

Chapter 1: Don’t Pick Up Men by the Road!

Rain poured down in sheets. Under the dim streetlights, the road ahead was almost impossible to see.

Shen Chi held up a small, battered umbrella, but against such a storm, it did little good. Before long, he was soaked through. His expression remained calm as he quickened his pace, wanting only to get home as soon as possible—until his foot kicked something by the roadside.

A bolt of lightning split the night sky, and Shen Chi finally saw what it was.

It was a person!

“Hello? Sir, are you okay?”

His upbringing would not allow him to leave someone to die. Shen Chi immediately bent down, but in the next second, the little broken umbrella in his hand was knocked to the ground.

His pupils shrank. Before he could react, his wrist was seized tightly by a large, well-defined hand. The force was like steel bars locking around him, leaving him no way to escape. In the end, he could only fall into a hard, wet, icy-cold chest.

The freezing temperature made him tremble uncontrollably. A sense of danger crawled over his scalp, and he instantly began struggling—but it was already too late.

A terrifying gaze fixed on the back of his neck.

His breath caught. This was something he had never experienced before. His body stiffened as he raised his eyes.

In the darkness, all he saw was a pair of blood-red eyes.

Shen Chi’s poor vocabulary left him unable to describe that gaze.

Possessive. Plundering. Predatory.

Cold rain struck his face, and the sting brought him slightly back to his senses. He began resisting wildly, trying to escape, but that action completely enraged the man in the storm.

The man seemed to have lost all reason. In those blood-red eyes, only the most primal instincts remained. The calmness he usually disguised so well had now been completely stripped away.

He looked indifferently at the young man in his arms.

He was clearly the one who had barged in. So why was he resisting?

At some point, Shen Chi managed to grab the broken umbrella that had fallen beside him. His nerves were stretched to the limit, and without any mercy, he swung it down.

Bang!

The hand gripping his wrist loosened.

Joy flashed across Shen Chi’s face. He practically scrambled and rolled as he ran toward the main road.

He should never have taken a shortcut through this alley just because of the storm today. And his damned sympathy—he should have just let that person die by the roadside!

Behind him, the man coldly watched the young man who had intruded into his territory flee. His gaze was like that of a beast.

But very quickly, the game ended.

He curved his lips into a cruel smile.

Shen Chi only felt a wave of mockery. In the next second, a pair of powerful hands wrapped around his waist from behind.

That terrifying strength squeezed against his abdomen. Shen Chi struggled with both hands and feet until cold sweat appeared on the tip of his nose, but it was useless.

In the end, he was mercilessly dragged deeper into the alley.

Fear swept through his entire body.

Shen Chi felt as though something terrifying was licking the back of his neck. The touch was cold, sticky, and horrifying.

He was like a cat caught by the scruff of its neck, his whole body stiff, unable to move.

Then a sharp pain pierced the back of his neck.

An indescribably terrifying aura spread like gunpowder smoke across a battlefield, making his eyes widen in an instant.

His body was injected with pheromones that did not belong to him. The overloaded force made his body go limp, and his vision went black.

Before losing consciousness, Shen Chi had only one thought left.

He was going to be bitten to death by this lunatic!!!

Several days later.

Shen Chi jolted awake from a nightmare and instinctively touched the back of his neck. A few days were nowhere near enough for the bite marks to disappear. The horrible, chaotic bite marks were packed densely together, leaving the fair skin at the back of his neck in a miserable state.

He hissed, then pitifully and aggrievedly comforted himself.

“It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s… okay!”

[If it’s okay, why are you crying?] A mechanical voice carried the teasing tone of someone watching a show.

After being exposed, Shen Chi got angry for a moment—and only for a moment. Then he collapsed lifelessly onto his little bed.

He had never imagined that one day, he would transmigrate into a book too.

When other people transmigrated into books, they became domineering, cool, dazzling, arrogant Long Aotian protagonists. Even if not that, they would at least become ruthless and vicious villains. Sure, the villain’s ending might be tragic, but just answer one thing—wasn’t the middle part satisfying?

But he was different.

He transmigrated into a book and became an NPC!

Sure enough, when people were speechless enough, they really could laugh out loud. Shen Chi smiled without smiling. “A mere NPC actually needs to be assigned a system? Is your System Bureau about to go bankrupt?”

The system let him mock it and remained completely unbothered. [If I hadn’t saved you, you would have been dragged away by that Alpha by now. Do you know what a berserk Alpha is like?]

With his pretty little face darkened, Shen Chi gritted his teeth. “You’re asking me what they’re like? Then you really asked the right person. I actually have seen one.”

The system giggled. [What happened a few days ago was barely anything. You only got bitten a few times. If not for the heavens rumbling and this brilliant system making a dazzling entrance, your ending would probably have required the chief specialist of the proctology department to save you.]

Shen Chi: …

You bastard, switch back to human frequency!

After that incident, Shen Chi finally understood why so many girls online in his previous life shouted: Don’t pick up men by the roadside.

Back then, he could not understand it. If girls did not pick them up, what did that have to do with him, a boy?

Now, he sincerely knelt down and apologized to all those sisters. ORZ.

After teasing him, the system saw him lying motionless on the bed like a corpse and finally discovered its conscience.

[Stop playing dead. Your scene is coming up soon. You’re the secretary beside the male lead. Do you understand the value of a secretary?]

Shen Chi did not want to understand.

This damned world even had six genders. How twisted!

What puzzled him even more was that he, a Beta, had originally been glad he was a “normal human.” He never expected this world to have such a gender imbalance. Many low-level Alphas could not be matched with Omegas, which caused berserk Alphas to attack ordinary Betas.

Even worse, in this world, Betas had no human rights!

After being saved by the system, he had angrily wanted to call the police. But the system told him that an Alpha’s susceptible period did not count as a crime. In a case like his, the most he could get was some compensation—and that still depended on whether the Alpha had money. If he had no money, he would only be locked up for fifteen days.

And during that time, Shen Chi would still have to go identify him.

Shen Chi did not want to see that mad dog ever again. Thinking about how he had collapsed in that kind of alley, Shen Chi guessed he probably had no money. In the end, he decided to use the old method from his hometown: draw a little paper figure and curse him!

Shen Chi acted immediately. He got up, found a sheet of white paper, cut out a very crude human shape, then grabbed his slipper and started beating it.

This was not the first time the system had seen this scene. Every time he woke up from a nightmare, he had to do it once.

[Tired from hitting it? If you’re tired, shall we continue discussing the plot?]

Shen Chi sat on the floor, panting. This body was too useless. He had only hit it for ten minutes, yet he was so tired he could barely lift his hand.

But how could a real man admit he was weak?

“What are you talking about? How could I possibly be tired? I just think beating him with my slipper is giving him too much face. I should throw him into the toilet and flush him away!”

Shen Chi spoke with claws bared and teeth shown. His eyes were full of anger, yet under the light, they shone brightly—brilliant and beautiful.

The system suddenly somewhat understood why that Alpha had bullied him. With that little appearance of his, who would not want to dote on him?

[Let’s talk about your character setting. Don’t expose yourself when the time comes. If an NPC violates their character setting and goes OOC, there will be punishment.]

[You wouldn’t want to take a bite of delicious food one day and find it completely tasteless, or suffer random little misfortunes anytime and anywhere, or suddenly get a minor illness, right?]

The corner of Shen Chi’s mouth twitched.

What a profiteer!

He had not even started working, and the punishment mechanism was already arranged!

But… in order to survive, Shen Chi shed tears of humiliation.

“I will remember this day!”

The system covered its mouth, but laughter still leaked out through its fingers.

[Heehee.]

Shen Chi: …

Stupid system. It was not even pretending anymore.

[ABO + secret identity + fake death + mutual first love + seemingly cold but actually obsessive, creepy CEO Alpha × sunny, snarky Omega]

Shen Chi transmigrates into a novel as an NPC secretary in a CEO romance. Diligent and dependable, he does everything without complaint: when the CEO goes on business trips, he makes the bed; when the CEO eats, he serves the dishes; when the CEO dates, he drives the car.

Beneath the façade of the perfect secretary, however, Shen Chi is hiding a secret.

On the very first day after entering the novel, an unknown Alpha bit him on the neck.

He carefully conceals the bite mark and tries to forget the incident—only to discover that his own cold, intimidating CEO is searching the entire city for his missing mate.

And, by an unbelievable coincidence, the mate he's looking for... is Shen Chi himself. :)

Clutching tightly to his secret identity, Shen Chi begins preparing an escape plan.

But before he can disappear, the other man approaches him with an offer.

Lu Chenzhou: "Ten million. Let me bite you once."

Feeling the hand gripping his throat, Shen Chi keeps a pleasant smile on his face while cursing inwardly.

"Damn it all—how about letting go of my neck before you ask?!"
