Chapter 43
“Brother Tong Wei and I really have good chemistry.”
They had not communicated beforehand, but for some reason, Ye Xuan had trusted him inexplicably.
Tong Wei’s voice sounded from Luo Feng’s wristband. “Holy crap, Ye Xuan, you were seriously too cool. And how was my coordination? That was my command just now, you know. That’s why we were able to crush that zombie so accurately.”
Ye Xuan spoke into the wristband. “Cool.”
“You did well.” Luo Feng praised him, then reminded him, “Don’t let your guard down.”
“Brother Feng, if I’m handling it, you can relax.”
Luo Feng cut off the communication.
After this small incident, the transport truck resumed stable operation, but its speed was much faster.
Ye Xuan did not relax. He watched the window carefully. If another zombie appeared, going out to attack would be his first choice.
Fortunately, the rest of the trip was safe despite the scare. Aside from that zombie that had suddenly jumped out, they did not encounter any other danger.
After returning to the base, the vehicles stopped in front of the warehouse. Luo Feng called for the team members to move the containers into the warehouse.
Ye Xuan was also about to join them and help, but Tong Wei held him down and told him not to move.
“You’re a space ability user. Leave this little job to us strength-type ability users. Your ‘debut’ today really opened my eyes.”
The other teammates also echoed him. “That’s right, Ye Xuan. You worked hard. We’ll handle these. We’ll finish moving them very quickly.”
Ye Xuan cast a pleading look at Luo Feng, but Luo Feng pretended not to see and went to help the team members carry the containers.
It seemed that he also agreed with what the team members said.
Ye Xuan stood where he was, not knowing what to do. He believed that making a move at that time had been the right thing to do, but his teammates’ reactions seemed a bit too much.
After standing there for a while, Ye Xuan still planned to join them.
Someone called out to him from behind. “Ability User Ye Xuan, hello.”
Ye Xuan turned around and saw an unfamiliar man. He was holding his helmet and had an apologetic expression.
“You are?”
“I’m the transport worker from earlier. Thanks to you just now.”
The transport worker reached out to Ye Xuan.
Ye Xuan reacted, reached out, and shook hands with him. The transport worker had worn a helmet the entire way earlier, so Ye Xuan had not recognized him.
“May I ask what you need from me?”
The transport worker showed a hesitant and somewhat embarrassed expression. “Actually, I came to apologize to you.”
“Apologize?” Ye Xuan was puzzled and smiled. “You did very well just now. Why would you apologize to me?”
The transport worker looked at Ye Xuan, then gave him a solemn ninety-degree bow and said loudly, “I’m sorry, Ability User Ye Xuan. When Commander Luo Feng wanted to get out of the vehicle to save you earlier, the first thing I considered was the mission. I didn’t consider you, and I didn’t open the door immediately. I’m truly sorry.”
Perhaps because he felt ashamed, the transport worker turned and ran away.
“Hey, you…” Ye Xuan’s hand stopped halfway in the air as he watched the transport worker run off. He felt a little confused now.
The team members gathered around curiously and asked, “What happened? What did Little Chen do to wrong you?”
Ye Xuan himself was still confused and wanted to ask what was going on.
Luo Feng called out to them, “Finish the mission before you go minding other people’s business.”
The team members immediately filled with energy and finished moving the containers in no time.
Luo Feng tapped his wristband and settled the mission.
“After the people above inspect everything and confirm there are no problems, the reward will automatically be transferred to your accounts.”
That was not what the team members wanted to hear. They surrounded Luo Feng and asked whether something had happened in the vehicle just now.
“Honestly, you brats. You insist on digging into even the tiniest things.” Luo Feng helplessly rubbed his brow. “Earlier, I thought Ye Xuan had jumped off the roof and gotten injured, so I wanted to save him. But Little Chen locked the door.”
The team members immediately became indignant on Ye Xuan’s behalf.
“What? That Little Chen. He usually looks so honest, but he pulled something like that at the critical moment.”
“You really can’t judge a person by their face.”
“You may know someone’s face, but not their heart.”
Tong Wei made as if to go demand an explanation for Ye Xuan, but Ye Xuan pulled him back.
Ye Xuan said softly, “He was also considering the bigger picture. If we had stopped halfway just now, we might have encountered more zombies.”
He turned to Luo Feng. “Brother Feng had this consideration in mind too, so at the beginning, he told the transport worker not to stop and planned to deal with the zombie himself.”
“I’m right, aren’t I?”
More than right. Ye Xuan was like a worm in his stomach, clearly understanding his thoughts.
Luo Feng nodded.
Ye Xuan placed his hands on his teammates’ shoulders. “I believe he didn’t do it on purpose. If he really did it on purpose, why would he run over to apologize to me?”
Tong Wei placed his hand on Ye Xuan’s shoulder and patted it. “I didn’t expect our Ye Xuan to have such a bodhisattva heart.”
“If I knew about this,” Tong Wei clenched his left fist and swung it through the air, “that person would get beaten to death by me.”
The team members all laughed.
“Tong Wei, you violent maniac. All you think about every day is beating people up.”
“Team C already accepted our challenge letter. We’ll be waiting for you to shine on Sunday!”
“Reporting to Brother Feng, Tong Wei said he wants to fight ten people alone.”
“Hey, hey, hey, don’t talk nonsense.” Tong Wei ran ahead of them and performed a set of punches. “I want to fight twenty alone.”
Luo Feng laughed despite himself. He glanced at his wristband. It was already two in the afternoon. “Afternoon training is canceled. Go rest.”
Tong Wei darted to Luo Feng’s side and asked, “What about you, Team Leader? Are you secretly going off to do something big behind our backs?”
Luo Feng swept a leg toward Tong Wei, but Tong Wei dodged it.
“Your team leader does things openly and aboveboard. I’m going to report to the higher-ups about the zombie we discovered today.”
“I don’t know whether that zombie near the mining area happened to pass by accidentally or accidentally broke away from a group. Either way, it’s worth paying attention to. I’m going to suggest they send people to inspect the surrounding area.”
Hearing that Luo Feng really had business to handle, Tong Wei stopped making trouble and waved at Luo Feng.
“Goodbye, Brother Feng. See you tomorrow.”
He turned and threw his arms around Ye Xuan and the other teammates.
“Let’s go. After working hard all morning, this young master is so hungry he’s about to turn into a Loulan mummy. Time to eat.”
Ye Xuan rubbed his chin and sized up Tong Wei.
Tong Wei grew embarrassed under Ye Xuan’s gaze and lifted a pinky like an opera performer, blocking his face.
“Dear guest, please do not look at this humble one with such an exposed gaze. This humble one cannot withstand it.”
Ye Xuan felt a chill. “Brother Tong Wei, I really can’t tell that you’re starving. On the contrary, I feel like you’ve raised yourself very well.”
Tong Wei moved his pinky away and chased after Ye Xuan, roaring, “Ye Xuan, this young master just has a large frame and looks strong. This young master still has abs! If you don’t believe me, look!”
Ye Xuan ran wildly without stopping, glancing behind him from time to time. Tong Wei was chasing him like a wolf that had been hungry for a week.
“Brother Tong Wei, I was wrong! I meant that your complexion is rosy, your blood and energy are abundant, and you look very healthy. I wasn’t saying you’re fat!”
After making a ruckus for a while, the group headed to the cafeteria, only to find that it had long since closed.
Tong Wei raised his hand. “Let’s go. Come to my dorm. I’ve stocked up on quite a bit of meat. We’ll cook hotpot.”
One teammate teased, “The iron rooster is plucking out his feathers.”
