Chapter 21
Without giving Ye Xuan any room to refuse, Xie Yan pressed him down and made him undergo several examinations.
“Body functions normal. Cellular activity normal.”
“…”
“?”
Xie Yan looked at the data, and his expression turned somewhat solemn.
“Strange. For now, I’ll divide the viruses in your body into R1 and R2. After this incident, I originally optimistically predicted that the R1 virus level in your body would be high while the R2 level would be low. But now, the R2 virus in your body has actually become active again and reached a relatively high level. The two viruses seem to have temporarily reached an agreement inside your body, coexisting in an oddly harmonious way.”
Ye Xuan could not understand what Xie Yan was trying to tell him.
“Sigh, brat, you got lucky. At first, I thought the R1 virus in your body would devour the R2 virus. But now it seems possible that they can coexist peacefully inside you. In other words, you are very likely to become a dual-ability user.”
Xie Yan saved the data into a file and turned off the equipment.
“Your previous ability may not have disappeared at all. It might only have been temporarily suppressed. Perhaps one day, under some kind of stimulation, it will suddenly reappear.”
After saying so much, it was all still his speculation.
Ye Xuan was already unmoved by this kind of grand promise.
“I understand.”
“That’s it?” Xie Yan hooked an arm around Ye Xuan’s neck. His light-brown eyes flickered with excitement. “Do you know how big of a surprise you brought me this time?”
“What’s the use?” Ye Xuan pushed Xie Yan’s hand away. “Don’t keep putting your arm around my shoulders. You’re thirty, and I’m eighteen. Based on age, I should be calling you uncle.”
Xie Yan’s smile stiffened on his face. He shouted at Ye Xuan in exasperation, “You brat, give you a little color and you really open a dye shop in front of me, huh?”
Ye Xuan pressed both hands over his ears and fled the laboratory. He suspected Xie Yan had gone crazy from studying too much and had learned the Lion’s Roar of Hedong to relieve stress.
After leaving the hospital, Ye Xuan did not return to the dormitory. Instead, he went straight to the family quarters.
Father Ye and Mother Ye were surprised by their son’s sudden appearance, but they did not ask too much. They kept insisting on “showing off their skills.”
After spending a day and a half at the family quarters, Xia Chenxi came to pick Ye Xuan up and bring him back to the dormitory.
“You rested comfortably these past two days?” Xia Chenxi sat in front, while Ye Xuan sat behind him with his arms around his waist.
“Of course. Too bad I have to go back and keep training tomorrow.”
The moment Ye Xuan thought of that team leader who looked down on people and those spectators who fanned the flames, anger filled his chest.
“Tomorrow, I’ll be following my team out on a mission. At least two days. During that time, take care of yourself.”
“So soon.”
Ye Xuan remembered that Xia Chenxi had told him before that two days later, once his training ended, he would have to participate in a mission.
“Then be careful out there.”
“Whether it’s safe or not isn’t up to me. If something happens to me outside and you meet me again, I hope you can deal with me yourself.”
Ye Xuan pinched Xia Chenxi’s waist.
“Do you understand avoiding bad omens or not? Why do you always like saying unlucky things?”
Xia Chenxi jolted and nearly drove the scooter into a pit.
“You’re ticklish? Hahaha, Xia Chenxi, you’re such a big guy, and you’re afraid of tickles.”
As if discovering a new continent, Ye Xuan’s hands started restlessly scratching Xia Chenxi’s waist.
Xia Chenxi could not dodge Ye Xuan’s troublesome hands. With one drift, the huge inertia almost threw Ye Xuan flying off. Ye Xuan was so frightened that he tightly hugged Xia Chenxi’s waist.
Only when he no longer dared to cause trouble did Xia Chenxi steady the scooter and continue riding.
And because Ye Xuan was afraid Xia Chenxi would do another drift, he hugged him even tighter and refused to let go.
“Don’t hug so tightly. Be careful others might misunderstand if they see.”
Ye Xuan misunderstood and thought Xia Chenxi was tricking him into letting go. “Misunderstand what? We’re two grown men. Could people possibly misunderstand that we’re gay?”
After saying it, Ye Xuan realized that nine parts out of ten of what he had said were wrong.
Xia Chenxi seemed to have been silenced with one button.
Ye Xuan silently let go and grabbed the corner of Xia Chenxi’s clothes instead.
Heaven knew he had not meant it that way at all.
Because he had to return to the training field today, Ye Xuan had gone to bed early last night, so he also woke up early.
When he walked out of his room, he saw Xia Chenxi fully armed and ready to leave.
“You’re leaving this early?”
“Mm. There was a temporary change to the mission time. If you don’t want to cook, there are ready meals in the fridge.” As he spoke, Xia Chenxi held the doorframe and put on his explosion-proof combat boots, then put on a black helmet, covering himself tightly.
“By…” Bye.
Ye Xuan had only raised his hand halfway when Xia Chenxi had already closed the door and left in a hurry.
What kind of mission was so urgent?
After eating breakfast, Ye Xuan rushed to the training field.
When he reappeared at the training field, all kinds of gazes were cast toward him.
But among them, many of the jealous and hateful gazes had disappeared, replaced by many curious ones.
Ordinary team members could only stay in the reserve team for seven days at most. Ye Xuan had not come for two days, and quite a few old members had left, including Quan Guanxi’s underlings. Several new members had come in instead.
Ye Xuan still chose to line up at the very back.
The team leader swept his eyes over everyone. When he saw Ye Xuan, he was just about to speak, but seemed to think of something and closed his mouth again.
“Same as usual. Group training first, then individual training.”
“Report.”
A familiar face, a familiar voice, and a familiar silly, cheerful smile. It was none other than Nan Yunzhou.
Ye Xuan’s temple twitched.
The team leader was already used to it. “One hundred push-ups.”
Nan Yunzhou dropped to the ground and finished them in a few quick moves. After getting up, he realized Ye Xuan was looking at him and flashed Ye Xuan a standard eight-tooth smile.
Why was he smiling at him? And why was he smiling so stupidly? Ye Xuan shifted his gaze away.
“Report, finished.”
“Join the line.”
Nan Yunzhou rushed straight toward Ye Xuan and stood beside him.
After three days apart, Ye Xuan had not expected Nan Yunzhou to have learned ventriloquism. His lips did not move, and he made sounds using only his breath.
“Ye Xuan, long time no see.”
“How have you been lately?”
“I missed you so much.”
Of course, no matter how much Nan Yunzhou chirped beside him, Ye Xuan ignored him.
When it was time for individual training, Ye Xuan walked to the side alone. Nan Yunzhou followed him, looking pitiful like an aggrieved puppy.
“Ye Xuan, why are you giving me the silent treatment? Aren’t we friends?”
“I don’t have friends who harbor ulterior motives toward me.”
Nan Yunzhou became anxious and grabbed Ye Xuan’s hand.
“That guy who beat you up, I already taught him a lesson for you.”
“Was it really for me that you taught him a lesson, or did you have another motive?”
Nan Yunzhou instinctively wanted to say it was for you, but seeing Ye Xuan’s cold gaze, he shrank his head back again.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
There was no point arguing right and wrong with Nan Yunzhou. It was better to take this chance to use him a little.
“You said you treat me as a friend.”
“Yeah. From the first time we met, I already treated you as my friend.”
Nan Yunzhou opened those pretty puppy eyes, looking completely guileless.
“Then fine. Are you willing to help your friend a little?”
“?”
Nan Yunzhou did not understand, but Nan Yunzhou did as he was told.
And so, on the training field, there was now one more person dodging back and forth through lightning.
