Reborn in the Apocalypse: I Decide to Cling to My Roommate’s Thigh – CH1

Chapter 1

The weapons, equipment, and so on in this story are fictional creations by the author. Please do not examine them too deeply. This is a growth-type protagonist, not some insanely overpowered, ridiculously awesome main character who can beat villains half-dead with one finger.

“Hah…”

Ye Xuan shot up from the bed in terror and unease, clutching his chest. The heart inside his ribcage was pounding violently.

He opened his phone and glanced at the time.

Beijing time, nine thirty.

So what just happened was only a dream.

But that dream just now had been far too real. It was as if that truck had truly slammed into him, smashing him to pieces in an instant. After a burst of intense pain, he had lost consciousness.

Ye Xuan scratched his head. Maybe it was because he had been staying up too late recently, and his body could not take it anymore, so he had that kind of nightmare.

He climbed out of bed, went to the sink, scooped up a handful of cold water, and splashed it onto his face to wake himself up.

Not a single roommate was in the dorm. He did not know where the others had gone, but he knew that bookworm Xia Chenxi must have gone to the library.

He clearly looked like a sports student, yet in complete contrast, he especially loved studying.

Ye Xuan did not think there was anything wrong with a college student studying, but did that guy not have any entertainment time at all?

He never played games, never joined any dorm group activities, and even when Ye Xuan greeted him, he would keep that wooden face and pretend not to see him.

Ye Xuan looked toward Xia Chenxi’s desk. All his textbooks were arranged neatly inside the cabinet, and the tabletop was so clean it was unbelievable.

Everything about him was just like the man himself—meticulous to the extreme.

“Is he even human?”

Ye Xuan complained under his breath, shoved his keys into his pocket, and prepared to go to the convenience store to buy something to eat.

There were not many people outside. At this hour, everyone was either still in class, or they had no early morning class and had gone out to have fun or were sleeping in the dorm. A small number of people, like Xia Chenxi, were studying in the library.

Almost no one was out buying breakfast like him.

“Boss, one pickled long bean bun, one beef bun, and a cup of soy milk.”

“Seven yuan.”

Ye Xuan paid, took the breakfast from the boss, and walked outside.

The moment he stepped out the door, a large truck came speeding over, crashing straight toward his face.

Ye Xuan’s entire body went cold. His brain could not think, and his feet seemed to be nailed in place.

He wanted to leave this world with one final sentence.

Dad, Mom, I love you.

Boom!

“Hah…”

Ye Xuan woke up in fright again. In panic, he looked around. He was still on the bed.

Everything he had just experienced was a dream within a dream?

No, no. Everything he had just experienced had been far too real. So real it was absurd.

The first time he was hit and killed, it was because he went to buy breakfast. The second time, it was also because he went to buy breakfast.

And the pain of his entire body being smashed apart felt exactly like something he had personally experienced.

He was not dreaming. He had been reborn twice.

Ye Xuan immediately picked up his phone and called his mother.

After a burst of ringing, the call connected.

“Mom, let me tell you, just now I…”

Just now, he had been hit by a car and died twice. But any normal person who heard that would not believe it.

“Ha, forget it. It’s nothing. How have you been lately? Your son will be home in half a month. When the time comes, you have to treat your son to a big meal. Mom, why aren’t you saying anything? Mom?”

“Beep—”

The call was hung up.

Although his mother was usually unreliable, this was the first time she had ever hung up on him without saying a word.

Ye Xuan was just about to call his mother again when a huge collision sound came from outside.

It had to be that truck that hit him just now.

Ye Xuan set aside the thought of calling his mother again and ran to the balcony. From the balcony, he could just see the convenience store. Quite a few people had also been drawn out by the enormous noise and ran outside to see what had happened.

The front of the large truck had completely crashed into the convenience store. Glass shards were scattered all over the ground nearby, and only the taillights kept flashing.

Under those circumstances, there was no way the driver could have survived. He did not know whether the convenience store owner had gotten hurt.

Just now, he had been hit and killed twice like that, without even understanding what was happening.

Ye Xuan turned around. What happened next had nothing to do with him. The school would naturally handle it.

Before he could enter the room, someone shouted, “No way? He’s still not dead? Is that driver Iron Man or what?”

“That’s insane. Film it and post it on Moments.”

“The power of adrenaline is invincible.”

Ye Xuan turned back and looked toward the convenience store. The driver was covered in blood, walking out in an extremely strange posture.

Was that possible?

Under such a massive impact, he was still alive, and could even stand and walk?

Ye Xuan once again fell into doubt. Was he still dreaming?

He forcefully pinched his thigh.

Hiss. It hurt.

Since this was real, then how could that driver be explained? How could his rebirth be explained?

Ye Xuan grabbed his own hair and slowly squatted down. Was he crazy, or was this world crazy?

“Look, what’s that?”

“What’s wrong with those people at the teaching building? It looks like something is chasing them?”

“Is there a film crew shooting a drama at our school? Why didn’t we hear anything about it before?”

“Run faster! Hahaha, if you don’t run faster, you’re going to get eaten!” someone laughed and shouted.

Very quickly, the laughter came to an abrupt stop. Ye Xuan lifted his head and looked around. Everyone’s expressions were frozen on their faces.

Ye Xuan looked toward the place where everyone’s gazes had gathered. A group of people were gnawing on one person. A few seconds later, they scattered and chased after other people who were fleeing in panic. The person who had been gnawed on trembled a few times, then suddenly stood up from the ground and joined the chase.

“I’m definitely still dreaming,” Ye Xuan murmured to himself.

“Stop having your fantasy dream. They’re zombies.”

“They really are zombies!”

“The apocalypse is here!”

Some people were terrified. Some were excited.

Only three words remained in Ye Xuan’s mind.

It’s over.

Click.

A faint sound came from the door.

Ye Xuan immediately stood up, grabbed the broom beside him, and looked toward the door.

After seeing clearly who had come in, he breathed a sigh of relief.

It was Xia Chenxi.

Xia Chenxi shut the door behind him with his backhand and leaned against it, his chest rising and falling continuously.

Even someone as calm as him would be afraid the first time he saw a scene like this, right?

Ye Xuan held the broom and slowly walked forward.

“Xia Chenxi, are you okay?”

Xia Chenxi raised his eyes. Those sanpaku eyes made Ye Xuan stop half a body’s length in front of him.

When they first met, Ye Xuan had thought Xia Chenxi looked fierce. His whole body carried an aloof air that warned strangers to stay away. Combined with his build, he looked exactly like someone from the underworld.

Just like now, Ye Xuan always felt that Xia Chenxi looked as if he were about to hit him.

But Xia Chenxi merely swept him a faint glance and said, “Push the chairs over. Block the door.”

“Block it? Then what about Li Wen and Lin Dong?”

Xia Chenxi ignored Ye Xuan and began pushing chairs to block the door on his own.

Ye Xuan threw the broom aside and raised a hand to make Xia Chenxi stop.

“Xia Chenxi, what if the two of them are like you and come back in a while?”

“They’ve turned into zombies.”

Ye Xuan fell silent and joined Xia Chenxi.

The instant he bent down, from the corner of his eye, he saw a bloody bite mark on Xia Chenxi’s ankle.

A chill ran down his back. Xia Chenxi had been bitten?

No wonder Xia Chenxi was in such a hurry to block the door. He was planning to leave him with nowhere to run!
