Chapter 100: The Snowfield Patrol Vehicle

After confirming that the factory was safe, everyone planned to split up and search different areas of the building for the snowfield patrol vehicle. However, they hadn’t gone very far when they were stunned by a massive object in front of them.

This enormous machine was entirely pearly white. It stood about two meters tall, was at least as long as three sedans, and about fifteen times wider than an ordinary car. It looked somewhat bulky. Its tires were enormous, with anti-slip treads on the surface, and they could rotate in multiple directions.

“Could this be the snowfield patrol vehicle?” Zheng Jiahe asked in surprise.

Among them, the one with the greatest authority was, of course, the technical specialist Han Lei. He carefully took a photograph out of his backpack for comparison. After checking it closely, he nodded.

“This is the vehicle we’re looking for.”

This snowfield patrol vehicle was modified based on the snow cruiser used by an M-country expedition sent to Antarctica in the late 1940s.

The excess electricity generated was stored in batteries, which could power all onboard electrical systems when the engine was not running.

What Huaguo’s technical team needed to do was to preserve the original snow cruiser’s strengths while removing and improving its weaknesses. After a full seven years of research and development, they finally succeeded in producing the first-generation Huaguo snowfield patrol vehicle.

And the one standing before Zhan Yun and the others was already the third generation.

This latest model was only half the size of the original, making it much lighter, yet its performance had improved by several times over. It contained a cockpit, a simple kitchen, a toilet, a storage compartment, a mechanical bay, and a resting cabin. Even better, the top of the vehicle was equipped with a lifting device and a heavy steel flatbed, allowing it to carry heavy cargo. After all, Antarctic expeditions required a large amount of equipment and supplies, all of which had to be loaded onto a single vehicle.

No wonder Regiment Commander Jiang had insisted that they come here first to secure this vehicle. He really had foresight.

The next morning at dawn, they ate a simple breakfast, then started up the snowfield patrol vehicle and left the R&D base through the main gate.

From here on out, they just needed to follow the map northward.

During the day, when they had nothing else to do, everyone took turns entering Su Ruizhe’s space to help harvest grain and pick vegetables. However, they didn’t take the harvested goods out for the time being. Everything was piled up in an open area inside the space—otherwise, the target would be too obvious and might attract unnecessary trouble.

Regiment Commander Jiang had mentioned that due to food shortages, things outside were very chaotic. Some people were risking the snowstorms to leave their bases and try their luck elsewhere. They not only gathered supplies but also went out to rob others. So it was better to be cautious.

The snowfield patrol vehicle truly lived up to its purpose as a vehicle designed for Antarctic expeditions. It traveled effortlessly over snow, smoothly and comfortably. The heating system inside was powerful enough that they only needed thin blankets to sleep.

The small kitchen could also be used to cook simple meals, making it extremely convenient.

With the snowfield patrol vehicle, their travel speed increased significantly. City S was located southwest of the capital, while the Southern Base lay southeast of the capital base. To reach the capital base as quickly as possible, traveling in a straight line was faster. Therefore, they took a route opposite to the one they had used before. Judging by the direction, it seemed they would pass by Lincity Base.

Lincity Base was a small county town focused on agriculture. The city’s grain reserves should have been enough to get through the winter, but most of the food was controlled by the so-called “Eight Vajras.” No one knew whether they would distribute food to ordinary people…

Since they were passing by anyway, they might as well check the situation. Last time, they’d been in too much of a hurry. This time, if they happened to find another promising individual like Lin Rui, they could bring them back to the Southern Base.
