Chapter 70

The distance between Lin An’an and Xia Yuanhan was so close that Xia Yuanhan could clearly make out every detail of the face in front of him.

That familiar face made his pupils contract sharply. His expression was a mixture of horror and disbelief as he blurted out, “Xia Lin? You’re still alive?!”

After finishing his closing remarks just now, Xia Lin had only turned off the loudspeaker function on the earpiece clipped by his ear, but he had not taken it off. During the scuffle just now, it had accidentally been switched back on.

In an instant, Xia Yuanhan’s startled cry rang through the entire great hall.

Everyone—including the virtual camera still hovering overhead—almost immediately turned their gaze toward the raised platform the moment they heard the name “Xia Lin.”

“Xia Lin? Isn’t that the Third Prince’s name?”

“So it really is the Third Prince. I thought he had already…”

Whispers spread through the crowd below. Their complicated gazes all landed on Lin An’an, but he seemed not to notice at all. He gripped Xia Yuanhan’s collar hard and hauled his already weakened upper body up off the ground.

“Alpha Syndrome has killed so many people. So many people were forced to leave their homes and live on Sin Star, in such terrible conditions…”

Lin An’an spoke word by word. “Xia Yuanhan, what exactly are human lives to you? Is the throne really that important to you? Important enough that you could cast aside family ties, and even harm and use the people of the entire galaxy?”

Xia Yuanhan said nothing.

His crimes were still being displayed page after page on the enormous screen.

The moment he saw Xia Lin appear right in front of him, Xia Yuanhan already knew he had failed.

The person he had thought posed the least threat—and was certain to die—had appeared alive before him and had even turned the tables, reducing all his previous efforts to nothing.

Xia Yuanhan tugged at the corner of his mouth. His face was full of mockery, though it was impossible to tell whether he was mocking himself or something else entirely.

Lin An’an had never expected Xia Yuanhan to answer his questions. Their goal today had already basically been achieved. He was only saying these things now because those questions had been pressing on his heart for far too long, and he needed an outlet.

The unrest below the stage had already been brought under control by the First Legion under Mo Dexin’s command. Xia Changluo was helped back up onto the platform.

After Xia Yuanhan was subdued, Xia Jiyuan—who had long since become his puppet—also lost the ability to move and collapsed to the ground, completely still, like a corpse that had already lost its life.

And now that everyone present knew what Xia Yuanhan had done, they also knew that Xia Jiyuan was not really that different from a corpse anymore.

Xia Changluo lifted a hand slightly, signaling the people supporting him to step back.

“In the name of the Empire’s First Prince, I hereby declare Xia Yuanhan guilty of treason. In the days to come, a public trial will be held before the entire galaxy for the traitor Xia Yuanhan.”

The First Prince’s unquestionable voice echoed through the great hall.

Xia Changluo took a deep breath, lowered his gaze to Xia Yuanhan, who was still pinned to the floor, and said in a calm voice, “Take him away.”

When Xia Yuanhan’s collusion with the people of the X-System was exposed, a major upheaval also erupted in the Federation, far away on the other side of the galaxy.

Gu Yubai, the Federation leader who had been missing for a long time, suddenly reappeared and moved in one stroke to wipe out the Elders’ stronghold.

At the time, the Elders were in the middle of a live interview, and the topic of the interview was directly related to the “long-missing” Leader Gu. Gu Yubai’s sudden appearance shocked everyone on the scene.

He turned his own father into a puppet and got him killed, poisoned his older brother until his life was hanging by a thread, and threw his younger brother into the toxic fog forest on Sin Star. After Xia Yuanhan was taken into the Empire’s highest-security detention chamber, he was placed under round-the-clock guard by multiple members of the First Legion, twenty-four hours a day without interruption.

Lin An’an did not rush to interrogate him personally. He had more important things to do first.

“Still no trace of the X-System people?” Lin An’an asked.

Feng Wu frowned. “No. Gu Yubai’s side hasn’t found anything either.”

Lin An’an looked puzzled. “That’s strange. Could it be they found out about our operation ahead of time and pulled out early?”

“Not very likely. If they really had known, they wouldn’t have failed to warn Xia Yuanhan and the others,” Feng Wu analyzed. “Even if they weren’t afraid of the constraints of their spiritual contract, they were still in a cooperative relationship with Xia Yuanhan and the Elders. A warning would only help them avoid risks. There’d be no downside for them.”

“That’s true.” Lin An’an lowered his eyes in thought. “Did Xia Yuanhan say anything?”

Feng Wu shook his head.

Lin An’an clicked his tongue. “Fine. If he won’t talk, then he won’t talk. Let him calm down a little first. When we question him, if he still refuses to confess, then we’ll use some more special methods.”

He let out a cold snort. “Special people need special methods. That’s what actually works. If he refuses to know what’s good for him, then he can’t blame us.”
