Chapter 192
With Lu Chuan now guildmaster of Star Guild, his responsibilities multiplied.
Sure, he could still clear dungeons, but with his current Master-Ranking, that meant either risking his life in extreme high-level runs or going to low-level instances—where he’d be recognized instantly. Hiding behind an item to disguise his face and name seemed unnecessary.
So, being Guildmaster was actually the more relaxing job.
Though “relaxing” was relative.
All the business deals Lu Chuan had struck before as an individual had to be renegotiated under the guild’s name. Back then, loopholes were abundant—but Lu Chuan sometimes exploited them himself, so he let them slide.
Now, as guild master, he couldn’t allow such holes to remain.
On the day of his succession ceremony, though the other guild masters hadn’t attended in person, they all sent their congratulations remotely. Lu Chuan added them as in-game friends, making it easier to reach out.
That meant collaborations he couldn’t secure before were now within reach. And since most guild masters weren’t savvy in business, they found Lu Chuan’s “win–win” pitches palatable, even appealing.
With their blessing, Lu Chuan advanced his business empire like a man possessed, cutting through obstacles with ease.
So this was the thrill of playing at the top.
He truly felt it: once your status changed, problems that seemed insurmountable simply evaporated.
With Lu Chuan’s push, commerce thrived.
In reality, “Golden Towers” began to sprout across the land.
Since players who often had to raid couldn’t manage businesses, Lu Chuan turned to ordinary people.
Thus, as his empire grew, so did the economic and social standing of non-players.
Ordinary people gained work, money, confidence—and their children had more chances of becoming strong players.
By Lu Chuan’s second year as guildmaster, the number of player births from common families hit a record high.
And Lu Chuan himself felt the wealth of both worlds nourishing him.
His game stats now looked drastically different:
Name: Lu Chuan
Nickname: Arrival of the God of Wealth
Age: 25 (Congrats, you survived another year in the Infinite World)
Charm: 102+5 / 120 (beyond human limits)
Stamina: 230 / 350 (approaching divine realm)
Speed: 220 / 350 (just shy of rivaling lesser gods)
Intelligence: 123+50 / 200 (oddly erratic with no clear pattern)
Luck: ??? (suspected interference from extraordinary forces, indeterminate)
Sanity: 60 / 100 (barely holding in human range)
Titles: Star Guildmaster, Master-Rank #14, Lord of Golden Towers, Extreme Evil Loan Company VIP, Godseed Master
Wealth: Immeasurable.
Targeted Deity: The God of Exchange.
His body was worlds apart from before.
To test his power, Lu Chuan sparred with Shen Li, Edith, Starry Shasha, and Starry Ming together. Even against all four, he didn’t lose ground—in fact, he nearly had the upper hand.
They were baffled.
They clearly remembered Lu Chuan being weak in stamina and combat power. How had those weaknesses flipped overnight into strengths?
Lu Chuan claimed it was due to his title Godseed Master. Equipping it boosted his stats based on the number of godseeds he possessed. Since he already had several, his power surged.
In reality, that was a lie. The true effect of Godseed Master was allowing him to sense a god’s seed instantly—and letting the gods sense him just as quickly.
But since he was the only one with the title, whatever he said was taken as truth. And the others believed him—that was all that mattered.
“Guildmaster, are you still not planning to go into a dungeon?” Starry Ming asked with a frown.
To be honest, Starry Ming was already finding Lu Chuan a bit of an eyesore.
Over the past year since Lu Chuan took the position, he hadn’t tried to raise his rank at all. Instead, he spent his days running business ventures. By now, his commercial empire had spread across the entire world.
With the Five Great Guilds leading the way, countless small and mid-tier guilds were practically begging to join Lu Chuan’s empire. As a result, whether in infrastructure or commercial zones, the entire world was thriving with vitality.
The boundary between ordinary people and players was blurring more and more. There were even many stories of romances and marriages between them.
Of course, this also sparked resistance from the conservatives, who insisted that this trend was diminishing the noble status of players. Every single one of those players who dared speak so was thrown by Lu Chuan into high-level dungeons for “training.”
The truly capable ones came back alive. The incapable ones died inside.
In this, Lu Chuan was ruthlessly cold.
But the method worked. After a few waves of players died, no one dared complain again.
Lu Chuan’s prestige reached its peak. Among ordinary people especially, he was by far the most popular Guildmaster. Whenever the Star Guild opened recruitment, ordinary people always made up the bulk of applicants.
Now, the Star Guild was no longer the weakest. On the contrary, with Lu Chuan as its young guildmaster, many believed it was only a matter of time before it surpassed the Resurrection Guild.
But because Lu Chuan spent the entire year sitting in the guild headquarters without doing much else, the other players of the guild also reduced their dungeon runs. Everyone wanted to linger around to show off in front of him. For Starry Ming, this was intolerable.
No matter how big or profitable the business became, the true foundation of it all was still the guild’s strength—and that strength always lay in its players.
Lu Chuan not running dungeons had led to the others losing motivation to do so as well.
How could this possibly be acceptable?
After all, the Resurrection Guild’s Cynthia and Lilus siblings had spent this past year continuously clearing dungeons, rapidly boosting their ranks. Rumor had it the Resurrection Guild was even frantically searching for traces of [Undying], wanting to determine Cynthia’s candidacy as the next Guildmaster.
And then there was Messiah—now the darling of the Noah Guild. He was rumored to be juggling deals with multiple gods, securing divine assistance in his dungeon runs, which allowed him to clear them at an astonishing pace.
The Abyss Guild had new rising stars, and the Ocean Heart Guild’s guildmaster had personally taken on two disciples and was training them intensively.
Clearly, Lu Chuan had put enormous pressure on all the other guilds. Each one was desperate to catch up to him—and to cultivate the next “Lu Chuan” of their own.
For humanity as a whole, this was wonderful. But for the players of the Star Guild, it was not good news.
They had only just managed to pull ahead, and now everyone else was going all out again. That meant they too had to push themselves harder.
Especially Lu Chuan. How could he keep skipping dungeon runs?
As Guildmaster, he was supposed to set an example!
“Guildmaster, even if you just pick a few casual or low-level dungeons, you can’t keep avoiding them. Leadership sets the tone. If you won’t enter dungeons, the others will be even less willing,” Starry Ming said through gritted teeth.
By now, he had been promoted to vice guildmaster by Lu Chuan, along with Shen Li.
The original vice guildmaster had requested retirement after Lu Chuan took office, but Lu Chuan refused outright. In the end, the position was temporarily revoked so that Starry Ming and Shen Li could learn the responsibilities. Shen Li’s old post as commander was handed to Edith. Later, Lu Chuan promoted a batch of capable players and even ordinary people into leadership roles. With that, all Lu Chuan had to worry about were big-picture matters—the rest was handled by subordinates.
“Mhm, I’ve been choosing a suitable dungeon,” Lu Chuan admitted, knowing the effect of his inactivity on the others. “Relax. It’ll be in the next few days.”
“Guildmaster, why don’t you take Shasha with you?” Shen Li suggested seriously. “She’ll soon face her divine challenge dungeon. She’s an adult now—she should learn to clear it by herself. You don’t even need to guide her. Just watch from the side.”
“That’s a good idea. Fine.” Lu Chuan readily agreed.
The real reason he hadn’t entered dungeons this past year, aside from his body undergoing the process of divine transformation, was that #888 had been upgrading.
Previously, #888 could only upgrade specific skills—its core modules couldn’t be touched.
But things were different now. The points earned from clearing Forbidden Zone for Humanity were enough for a complete system overhaul. That took time. In the meantime, Lu Chuan occasionally chatted with #888’s backup program, which had been given limited permissions to manage the guild’s accounts.
By now, #888 was nearly done upgrading.
Perfect timing for a little outing with Starry Shasha.
Lu Chuan didn’t bother disguising himself with items or changing his player nickname. A sealed mask and following behind Shasha would be enough.
At his current level, watching her run a dungeon was like watching a child play house.
Of course, to keep the system from boosting difficulty, Lu Chuan sealed off his system space and swore not to use his abilities. That kept Shasha’s divine challenge dungeon from becoming impossibly hard—though it was still tougher than normal.
He simply crossed his arms and observed as Shasha, now much more seasoned after a year of training, cleared the dungeon her own way.
In the past one or two years, she had come of age and learned to better control and wield her ability. [Lucky Devil] was an excellent power—if used well, it could change the entire course of a dungeon. But it was also a ticking time bomb for the user.
For Shasha, though, none of the crises caused by her ability could compare to the ordeals she had faced when running dungeons with Lu Chuan.
Back then, encountering gods face-to-face was a given. Alone, she rarely encountered more than a few cultists of the divine—and that was already something.
This divine challenge dungeon was simple: destroy a cult’s hideout, kill their chosen sons and daughters, and stop the birth of an evil god.
First, Shasha imitated Lu Chuan’s style—deliberately displaying small powers among ordinary people to draw the cult’s attention. After repeated invitations, she reluctantly agreed to join. Then, she feigned affection for a young cult bishop, leveraging the “love-struck fool” persona to gain trust. Later, she secretly activated [Lucky Devil] to kill the bishop while pretending to be wounded and unconscious, thereby clearing suspicion and beginning to pull strings from the shadows.
Credit where it was due—Lu Chuan was proud.
Look at her now. That silly little girl from before had turned into a cunning schemer.
After years at his side, if she hadn’t picked up anything else, she had at least mastered shamelessness and ruthless manipulation. Add to that the private coaching from Messiah, Shen Li, and Starry Ming—plus her innocent looks—and she could kill a few cultists with less effort than picking ingots off the ground.
“Not bad, not bad,” Lu Chuan couldn’t help praising. “But the timing of that bishop’s death wasn’t perfect. Your injury looked a little too staged.” He clicked his tongue. “It would’ve been better to cripple him, make him think another bishop was to blame, while you just played the pitiful victim. A few tears and you could’ve watched them fight it out from the sidelines. Wouldn’t that be smarter?”
Shasha pouted. “Brother Lu, I really can’t cry on command.”
Well, he couldn’t expect too much.
Her convincing performances had less to do with acting skills and more with the natural bonus of her girlish appearance. Nothing she played felt out of place.
“No matter. You’ll improve later.” Lu Chuan waved it off. “Killing bishops is easy. But what about the chosen sons and daughters? The dungeon’s only begun, yet you’ve already used [Lucky Devil] once. It dealt with one bishop, but it will also speed up the dungeon’s progress. The god may descend sooner than expected.”
“The chosen ones are prepared vessels for the evil god,” Shasha frowned. “Raised from childhood and brainwashed, they can’t be reasoned with. But—if I can convince them there’s another way to serve their god, they’ll do it. My plan is to become a ‘goddess’ myself, staging a false descent to make them believe I’m on their side.”
She had seen more divine descents than she could count. She knew their manifestations all too well.
With the right props, the right setting, and a simple rehearsal, how could these cultists tell the difference between a real descent and a fake one?
As long as miracles were shown, they would believe.
“Hmm, that’s a good idea.” Lu Chuan was a little surprised. “Keep it up.”
Starry Shasha’s progress over the past year or two was truly astonishing.
Lu Chuan followed Starry Shasha through the entire “Divine Challenge” dungeon, watching her clear it with an undeniable advantage and smoothly rise to the Master Rankings —
almost the youngest player in history to do so.
She even broke Lilus’s previous record.
Of course, only Starry Shasha herself knew the hardship and effort behind that success.
Lu Chuan patted Starry Shasha on the head, signaling for her to head back on her own. He wanted to stroll around the dungeon a bit longer; outwardly, he’d say he was still “running the dungeon,” so the guild wouldn’t start worrying or slacking off.
Starry Shasha nodded, said goodbye, and went off to celebrate.
Heaven knew how much pressure she had been under!
Everyone else had already become Master Ranked players, while she, being younger, had felt stuck in place. She’d been anxious every single day, pushing herself to study and grinding in other dungeons to build experience — all leading up to this one success. Fortunately, Brother Lu had praised her generously; all her previous hard work finally paid off.
Inside the dungeon, Lu Chuan was in his element.
The “Golden Building” had spread everywhere across the dungeon world; even in supernatural dungeons, the Golden Building stood tall, a bright landmark in that realm.
Officially, its operators were still Hubbard and the “Evil Loan Company,” so few people associated it with Lu Chuan. In the real world, many of Lu Chuan’s buildings bore similarly gaudy names, but he publicly claimed they were just imitations of the “Golden Building” from the dungeon world — so suspicion remained low.
Well, not entirely nonexistent: because of the identical naming and Lu Chuan’s distinctive taste, quite a few people wondered whether the Golden Building in the dungeon also belonged to him. But there was no proof, and in-game territories were all claimed — building a personal domain there was notoriously difficult. So, most dismissed the theory.
Chen Ji and Hubbard, meanwhile, were eager for Lu Chuan to focus more of his work on the dungeon world.
After all, the Golden Building’s annual profits for Lu Chuan were already incalculable — not to mention the auction house he’d launched, now booming thanks to the five major guilds and the Golden Building’s backing.
At present, Lu Chuan’s business spanned both the dungeon and real worlds. Even NPCs who didn’t know his name knew the Golden Building could appraise and handle their items; even the toughest dungeon bosses had to respect its rules.
With wealth from both worlds constantly feeding him, Lu Chuan’s divine transformation accelerated. Once enough assets were amassed, money simply bred more money. Likewise, with solid foundations in both realms, whatever he undertook succeeded twice as fast — often far beyond expectations.
All the early effort and investment had been worth it.
Occasionally, #888 would pause its upgrades, look at how quickly Lu Chuan’s body was becoming divine, and sigh: “My host is really amazing.”
It had never seen a human ascend to divinity in so little time. The “fortune of the world” that Lu Chuan gathered — a feat that stumped most would-be gods — came naturally to him.
Lu Chuan was the God of Wealth, destined to collect the world’s fortune.
Cang Jiu, the God of Desire, had to stir the cravings of all beings.
Every god, to succeed, first had to amass concepts tied to their authority — a hurdle that blocked many candidates.
For Lu Chuan, though, that hurdle was the easiest.
By now, both in body and soul, Lu Chuan had truly stepped beyond the bounds of humanity.
On the very day his body finished its divine transformation, he condensed his own seed of the God of Wealth.
The Money Tree had returned.
Though smaller than the earlier “Tree of Wealth” born from the Seed of Fertility, it bore far more ingots. Lu Chuan was delighted with this seed.
Next came perfecting his domain: letting everyone accept the idea of a “God of Wealth” and spontaneously become his followers.
Yes — for true gods, unlike other deities, there was no need to recruit believers.
A “righteous god” is one that “has always existed.” As long as the concept of a God of Wealth took root in people’s hearts, every lover of money would, of their own accord, become his devotee.
Church-building and preaching were shortcuts developed by other gods.
Whether it was the God of Time, the God of Desire, the God of Life, or Death — none of those righteous gods had dedicated churches.
In other words, Lu Chuan’s next step was to reveal the existence of the God of Wealth.
