I’m Being Pestered By My Best Friend’s Little Brother! – CH22

Chapter 22

To be fair, when Jiang Mi heard what Liang Jinyi had said just now, his heart did feel rather bitter.

Of course he knew that if their relationship had become like this, seventy to eighty percent of the problem lay with him. It was because he had made promises again and again, only to break them again and again.

However, Lawyer Jiang had always had a soft heart. Although he knew perfectly well that he was in the wrong, he had still doted on the other person as his biological little brother for so many years. Suddenly hearing such words from him left his heart filled with mixed feelings.

But in the next second, when he saw Little Brother open the car door and get in with a stinking expression, that bit of sourness in Jiang Mi’s heart suddenly vanished.

He leaned down, pulled two tissues from the console, turned around, and handed them to Little Brother. “Wipe the rain off your face.”

Liang Jinyi looked up at the tissues Jiang Mi handed over. Then he lifted his sleeve and casually wiped his own face.

Jiang Mi could only withdraw his hand.

Jiang Mi drove forward. However, this rain came quickly and left quickly. After a dozen minutes, the sky outside the window cleared again. The sun that had been hiding behind the dark clouds poked its head out once more, pouring patches of orange-red onto the ground.

Liang Jinyi stared at the unfamiliar scenery outside the window and said, “This isn’t the way back to my house.”

A faint laugh came from Jiang Mi’s throat. “Your brother called me this afternoon and said your family’s chef is on leave. He also won’t be going back for dinner tonight, so he asked you to eat outside with me.”

As he spoke, Jiang Mi stepped on the brake and indicated for Little Brother to get out. “We’re here.”

Liang Jinyi didn’t move. He stared without blinking at Jiang Mi in the driver’s seat.

Jiang Mi smiled. “Little Brother, killing a thousand enemies at the cost of eight hundred of your own is not a good idea.”

Liang Jinyi got out of the car with a dark face.

The restaurant Jiang Mi had chosen was a Chinese restaurant, an old-established one. In the past, he, Liang Xuping, and Liang Jinyi had come here a few times, and they had all thought the food tasted very good.

Business at the restaurant was good, so Jiang Mi had reserved in advance an elegant window seat on the second floor.

A slightly older server led the two of them upstairs. Jiang Mi picked up the menu and familiarly ordered a few dishes Liang Jinyi used to like. Then, afraid that Liang Jinyi had something new he wanted to try, Jiang Mi asked him if he wanted to order anything else.

“Of course I do.” Liang Jinyi reached out, took the menu, and said with a dark face, “The dishes you just ordered are disgusting.”

Jiang Mi: “?”

He questioned, “Weren’t those the dishes you used to like best?”

Jiang Mi’s memory wasn’t bad, and Liang Jinyi was his good little brother. He remembered Liang Jinyi’s tastes clearly.

Hearing this, Liang Jinyi finally showed Jiang Mi the first smile since they had met today. However, this smile carried a faint mockery. “You know that was before? How long has it been since you ate with me? Don’t you know people’s tastes change?”

The smooth and composed Lawyer Jiang was rendered speechless by Little Brother. He said gently, “Then what do you like eating now?”

Liang Jinyi lowered his head and ticked several dishes on the menu that he had once especially hated and would not even taste.

After ordering, Liang Jinyi handed the menu to the server. And just as he handed the menu to the server, Jiang Mi noticed a small detail. His brows furrowed. “What happened to the back of your hand? You’re injured.”

Liang Jinyi swiftly withdrew his left hand.

But in those two seconds just now, Jiang Mi had clearly seen the back of Liang Jinyi’s left hand. There was a thumb-length scar on it. The wound looked very new, bright red, and it had probably been caused in the past two days.

Jiang Mi’s expression was full of concern. “Did you apply medicine?”

Liang Jinyi crossed his arms and didn’t answer.

Jiang Mi said again, “At the very least, you should put a Band-Aid on it. Your perception of pain is much more sensitive than ordinary people’s.”

Liang Jinyi turned his head away, looking as if he didn’t want to pay attention to anyone.

Jiang Mi couldn’t help sighing in his heart. Little Brother had indeed become very difficult to coax. He didn’t even know whether he could coax him back.

After dinner, Jiang Mi paid the bill, and the two got into the car. Jiang Mi drove toward the villa district where the Liang family lived.

After passing two streets, Jiang Mi suddenly stopped the car. He said to Liang Jinyi, who was sitting behind the front passenger seat, “I’m getting out to buy something. I’ll be back in two minutes.”

Liang Jinyi crossed his arms and looked out the window without any response.

Jiang Mi lightly inhaled, opened the car door, and got out.

He said two minutes, and the time was exactly stuck at two minutes.

Two minutes later, Jiang Mi opened the driver’s-side door. After sitting down, he turned around and handed the medicine bag in his hand to Liang Jinyi. “Wipe it with some alcohol and put on a Band-Aid.”

Liang Jinyi lowered his lashes and glanced at the things Jiang Mi handed over. Then he leaned back and closed his eyes.

Jiang Mi sighed helplessly.

Half a minute later, Liang Jinyi heard the car door beside him being pulled open. He had just opened his eyes when Jiang Mi directly took his left hand in front of himself.

“You…”

“Don’t move,” Jiang Mi reminded him.

He took out the alcohol swab he had just bought at the pharmacy and tore open the packaging. Lowering his slender, fair neck, he looked down and carefully disinfected the wound on the back of Liang Jinyi’s hand. Then he took out the large Band-Aid and gently stuck it over his wound.

Liang Jinyi took a deep breath and turned his head to look at the night outside the window.

Forty minutes later, the Audi arrived in front of the Liang family villa.

Seeing that the moment he stepped on the brake, Liang Jinyi impatiently prepared to open the car door, Jiang Mi hurriedly said, “Wait.”

Student Liang Jinyi heard this and generously bestowed on him a cold glance.

Jiang Mi picked up the package that had been sitting on the front passenger seat and handed it to Liang Jinyi. “This is the birthday gift I prepared for you this year. I originally wanted to mail it to you before your birthday, but then I thought I’d be back in September, so I still wanted to give it to you in person.”

The gift was wrapped in a black box, so it was impossible to see what was inside. However, from the shape of the box, Liang Jinyi could still guess what it was.

He withdrew his gaze, opened the car door, picked up his schoolbag, and strode toward the Liang house without looking back.

Looking at the gift in his hand that hadn’t been given away, Jiang Mi truly couldn’t hold back. He leaned back against the seat and let out a long, long sigh.

Only after watching Little Brother’s figure enter the Liang family’s large iron gate did Jiang Mi start the engine and drive away.

Not long after he drove off, his phone rang.

Jiang Mi answered the call through the car’s Bluetooth.

Liang Xuping’s teasing voice sounded. “Haha, Lawyer Jiang, have you coaxed Little Brother back?”

“Don’t you already know the result?” Jiang Mi asked.

Liang Xuping showed no mercy and laughed twice. “Super hard to coax, right?”

Jiang Mi gave a headache-filled “Mm.”

“What, still can’t bear to throw Little Brother away?” Liang Xuping teased.

Jiang Mi said, “How could I possibly bear to throw Little Brother away?”

“All right. Lawyer Jiang, keep working hard. I’ll wait for the day when the clouds part and you see the moon.”

“Thanks for the good omen.”

**

The next day was Thursday.

Zhu Yurui’s seat was next to Liang Jinyi’s. After putting down his schoolbag, he greeted his Brother Liang with great energy.

Liang Jinyi responded.

Zhu Yurui’s movement of reaching for his Chinese textbook froze. He stared at Liang Jinyi’s left hand, which was resting on the desk, and exclaimed, “Brother Liang, the wound on the back of your left hand is that small, and you actually put a Band-Aid on it!”

Hearing this, Liang Jinyi stared at the Band-Aid on the back of his hand and said expressionlessly, “I didn’t put it on.”

“Then who did?” Zhu Yurui was full of gossip. “Was it a girl who put it on for you?”

Liang Jinyi pushed Zhu Yurui’s head, which had leaned over, a little farther away. “Why are you asking so much? Hurry up and memorize the text.”

Zhu Yurui: “…Okay.”

A day of studying quickly ended. Zhu Yurui became spirited again and followed Liang Jinyi to the school gate, searching for his family’s BMW.

But before he saw his family’s BMW, he first saw Brother Liang’s family Bentley. “Brother Liang, your Uncle Li parked the car over there.” Zhu Yurui pinched Liang Jinyi’s sleeve and reminded him to look ahead.

Seeing the familiar Bentley, Liang Jinyi gave a neither-light-nor-heavy “Mm.”

Zhu Yurui rubbed his head in confusion. “What’s up? Why do I suddenly feel like your mood isn’t very good?”

“You’re thinking too much.” Liang Jinyi waved at him. “See you tomorrow.”

“See you tomorrow, Brother Liang,” Zhu Yurui said cheerfully.

In the blink of an eye, one night passed, and the next day was Friday.

Friday meant school would be out for the weekend, so the students were a little more restless than usual.

The last class on Friday afternoon for Experimental High School’s second-year Class Six was self-study. Zhu Yurui began arranging his weekend. He first asked Liang Jinyi, “Brother Liang, tomorrow let’s go to an internet café and play games. Last week, when I played by myself, I dropped several stars.”

“Sure,” Liang Jinyi said.

Zhu Yurui turned his head again and asked Huo Ran, who sat behind him, inviting him to queue together on Saturday.

Huo Ran thought for two seconds, then gave an “Okay.”

Zhu Yurui also called two other people he was on good terms with. After confirming they could five-stack tomorrow, he closed his mouth in satisfaction.

At five-forty, the bell signaling the end of the last afternoon class at Yunde High School rang.

As usual, Liang Jinyi and the others dragged their feet for a few minutes before walking toward the school gate.

Today, Zhu Yurui was the first to see his family’s car. After saying goodbye to Liang Jinyi, he got in and left first. Liang Jinyi continued walking along the road. After taking two steps, he stopped.

The window of the Audi beside him had lowered. Jiang Mi leaned his head out slightly. Today, he wore a navy-blue shirt, making him appear mature and elegant. His voice was gentle as he said, “Get in. Uncle Li is on leave again today.”

Liang Jinyi gripped the strap of his schoolbag and stared at Jiang Mi for several seconds before pulling open the rear car door with a stinking expression.

Experimental High School had been built quite early and was located within Bei City’s Second Ring Road. Although the Liang family’s villa district had beautiful scenery, it was quite a distance from Experimental High School. On top of the traffic, it took Jiang Mi forty minutes to drive to the entrance of the Liang family villa.

The moment they arrived at the house, Liang Jinyi impatiently opened the car door and got out.

But after walking a few steps, he heard a not-unfamiliar sound of footsteps behind him.

Liang Jinyi stopped and turned back to look at Jiang Mi. His tone was unfriendly. “What are you following me for?”

Jiang Mi lifted the few bags of nutritional supplements in his hand, curved his lips, and said, “I came to see Uncle Lin.”

Hearing this, Liang Jinyi’s face sank. He turned around and strode into the courtyard.

Jiang Mi followed behind him. As soon as he entered the Liang family’s courtyard, Uncle Lin came out from the living room to greet him.

The last time Jiang Mi saw Uncle Lin was two years ago. At that time, Jiang Mi had only broken his promise twice. Although little Liang Jinyi had resentment in his heart, he still liked this brother of his quite a lot.

So Jiang Mi had even stayed at the Liang house. After returning to Country U that time, Jiang Mi hadn’t come back to China for over two years and naturally hadn’t seen Uncle Lin again.

After two years apart, Uncle Lin’s temples had clearly turned white. Hearing Uncle Lin warmly call him Little Mi, Jiang Mi smiled and gave this kind elder a hug.

Liang Jinyi heard the movement behind him. He turned back and glanced once. Immediately, his expression sank even more. With a dark face, he turned around, strode into the main building of the villa, shot up to the second floor, and returned to his room.

Jiang Mi and Uncle Lin exchanged pleasantries outside for a while. Seeing that the sky was getting darker and darker, the two went into the living room. After chatting for about twenty minutes, Liang Xuping also drove back from the company.

Seeing that Liang Xuping had returned, Uncle Lin informed the auntie to serve dinner.

“I’ll go call Jinyi downstairs for dinner.” Jiang Mi still remembered coaxing Little Brother in his heart.

Two minutes later, Jiang Mi went upstairs and knocked on that familiar door. “Jinyi, it’s time for dinner.”

About ten seconds after his voice fell, the door opened. However, the other party didn’t even look at him and went downstairs without glancing sideways.

Jiang Mi followed behind Liang Jinyi and, with no solution at all, pinched the space between his brows.

The Liang family had three masters: Liang Hong, Liang Xuping, and Liang Jinyi. Liang Hong didn’t often return to the main residence. Tonight, the only ones eating were Liang Xuping, Liang Jinyi, and Jiang Mi, the guest.

The dining table in the small dining room was round. The auntie had set out three sets of bowls and chopsticks. Two sets were naturally placed where Liang Jinyi and Liang Xuping usually sat, while the other set was placed beside Liang Jinyi. After all, the auntie had worked here for many years and remembered how much Liang Jinyi had once clung to his Jiang Mi-brother.

When Jiang Mi walked into the dining room, Liang Jinyi had already sat down in his seat.

Jiang Mi pulled out the chair beside him and sat down.

At that moment, Liang Jinyi, who was sitting beside him, suddenly pulled out his chair and stood up. He moved to Liang Xuping’s side, and even sat two seats away from Liang Xuping. Then he coldly called for Auntie and asked her to reset a set of bowls and chopsticks for him.

Jiang Mi: “…”

Jiang Mi and Liang Xuping exchanged a glance. Jiang Mi proactively found a topic. He asked warmly, “Jinyi, school is out for the weekend today. Do you have any plans for the weekend?”

Liang Jinyi took the bowls and chopsticks the auntie handed over and thanked her. He didn’t answer Jiang Mi.

Jiang Mi was a lawyer, and lawyers inherently had to deal with all kinds of people. Toward nitpicking civil servants and clients, he could always maintain an amiable expression, let alone toward a younger brother he liked and felt guilty toward. He smiled and continued finding topics. “I heard that your exam results for the start-of-term test a few days ago were pretty good.”

Liang Jinyi focused on eating with his head lowered, turning a deaf ear to the topic Jiang Mi had thrown out.

Liang Xuping intended to help his good friend say a few words. Although, well, he also felt that Jiang Mi breaking his promises again and again was a little excessive, the cases Jiang Mi had encountered abroad had been very good opportunities. They were the choices a smart person should make. It couldn’t be that he should throw away his career just because a little brat missed him.

“They were pretty good. Top one hundred in the grade,” Liang Xuping chimed in. After saying that, he added, “But this time was actually not that great. Usually, Liang Jinyi can rank in the top fifty. Right, Liang Jinyi?”

Liang Jinyi still turned a deaf ear and focused on eating.

Jiang Mi found another topic. “Jinyi, you’re already in second year of high school now. Do you have any majors you’re interested in?”

Liang Jinyi was full. He put down his bowls and chopsticks, pulled out a tissue and wiped his mouth. Then he pulled out his chair and returned to his room.

Jiang Mi and Liang Xuping could only watch him leave.

After a few seconds, Liang Jinyi’s back disappeared from their sight. Liang Xuping asked Jiang Mi with deep doubt, “Do you think you can still coax Little Brother back?”

Jiang Mi didn’t have much confidence either. Mainly, he had never seen Liang Jinyi this angry before. “Probably.”

Liang Xuping said, “Anyway, you won’t give up?”

Jiang Mi smiled. “I’ve said it many times. Biological little brother.”

“Fine, fine.” Liang Xuping revealed a genuinely relaxed smile.

Jiang Mi had come to the Liang house today partly for Little Brother, and partly for Liang Xuping.

After the two finished dinner, they went up to the second floor. Liang Xuping dug out game cartridges he hadn’t played in many years. Two men nearly thirty years old sat in front of the screen and picked up the controllers.

However, neither of them had played games in two years. Their skills were clearly rusty. Losing all the time meant they no longer had the same hot-blooded drive as when they played back then.

Liang Xuping put away the King of Fighters game cartridge. “Forget it. Let’s stop playing. Go to the rooftop and feel the breeze.”

“Sure.” Jiang Mi knew Liang Xuping had something to say.

“I’ll go to the wine cellar and get a bottle. What do you want to drink?” Liang Xuping asked.

“Anything. Depends on what you want to drink.”

“Okay.”

A dozen minutes later, Liang Xuping went up to the rooftop carrying a bottle of Romanée-Conti. Jiang Mi glanced at the vintage and was somewhat surprised. “1990 Romanée-Conti. Brother Liang, you don’t need to drink this just to drown your sorrows.”

“Not for drowning sorrows. For entertaining a good brother.” Liang Xuping picked up the red wine glasses on the chocolate-colored round table. After pouring the wine, he handed one glass to Jiang Mi.

Jiang Mi held the red wine glass, his back leaning against the flower wall. Seeing Liang Xuping pour the 1990 Romanée-Conti down his throat like beer, Jiang Mi pursed his lips and his expression turned grave. “Tell me. What exactly is bothering you?”

Liang Xuping didn’t answer right away. Only after pouring himself another glass did he look sideways at Jiang Mi and say irritably, “Jiang Mi, I don’t want to work at Liang Group anymore.”

Jiang Mi: “?”

And once Liang Xuping said the first sentence, the words that came after became much easier. He reached up and unbuttoned another button on his shirt. “Fuck, actually, I already didn’t want to work at the company several years ago. What financial statements, what financing, what strategy—I’m fucking not interested in any of it!”

“Then you still worked there for so many years.”

Liang Xuping had entered Liang Group to intern during his senior year of university. He had started from the grassroots level and rotated through various departments. For the past year or so, he had been leading a team in the Development Strategy Department. The Development Strategy Department managed Liang Group’s investments and was quite an important department.

“At first, I thought maybe I’d like it after doing it for a while. That’s Liang Group, after all,” Liang Xuping said irritably. “But the more I work, the more I hate it. If in the first year, I disliked it ten percent, then in the second year it was twenty percent. Now it’s seventy or eighty percent.”

“I’m too tired at Liang Group. Every day, I rack my brain. Especially the higher my position gets, the more I feel like my brain isn’t enough.” Liang Xuping said painfully, “Right now, I just want to resign.”

In the past, Liang Xuping had also complained to Jiang Mi that being Little President Liang was painful and meaningless. But work—how could work not have pain? When Jiang Mi sorted through tedious materials until the early morning, he also wanted to kick the computer away and quit.

However, Liang Xuping’s current state was different from the occasional frustration and disgust toward work.

“Would Uncle Liang agree to you not working there?” Jiang Mi asked.

Liang Xuping’s expression was stifled. “If I had said from the beginning that I wouldn’t do it, maybe he would have agreed. But he cultivated me for six or seven years. If I drop everything now, he’ll beat me to death.”

Liang Xuping still understood his father somewhat. Liang Hong had a desire for control, but not too strong. He also didn’t require Liang Xuping and Liang Jinyi to definitely do this or that, so he wouldn’t force the two of them to inherit the family business. But he had already cultivated Liang Xuping as the successor for so many years. If Liang Xuping now made six or seven years of his effort go to waste, it would be equivalent to six or seven years of investment vanishing without return. Liang Xuping didn’t quite dare imagine the consequences.

“Then what do you want to do after leaving Liang Group?” Jiang Mi was relatively rational. Changing careers when one was nearly thirty was not a small matter.

At the mention of this, Liang Xuping’s eyes lit up a little. “What do you think about me becoming a freelance photographer?” He put down his wine glass and made a camera-taking gesture with both hands. “Freedom. No thinking. I like it. Right now, I like jobs that don’t require thinking.”

Jiang Mi smiled. “You always liked photography.”

“I participated in three photography competitions in university and won awards in all of them,” Liang Xuping said proudly.

Jiang Mi said, “When President Liang comes back from his business trip, hand in your resignation.”

“I should hand it in as soon as he comes back?” Liang Xuping’s tone was shocked.

Jiang Mi smiled again, though in the dim night, it was hard to see clearly. “Isn’t that exactly what you wanted to hear me say?”

After Liang Xuping froze for a moment, he couldn’t help laughing. “As expected of a good brother. Come, come, come. Cheers, cheers.”

Jiang Mi stretched out his hand, and the two wine glasses filled with ruby-red liquid lightly clinked together.

In the city at night, one couldn’t see brilliant stars, only a faint, cold crescent moon. Liang Xuping had found someone to talk to about something that had weighed on his heart for a long time, and had also made a decision. His whole body relaxed quite a bit. Like Jiang Mi, his back leaned against the flower wall as he raised his head and looked at the moon in the sky.

After a while, he couldn’t help saying, “Jiang Mi, sometimes, I really admire you.”

Jiang Mi said, “Hm?”

“Look at us. In life, more or less, we’ve all taken some crooked paths. But look at you. You’re always clear and certain about your future goals, and your execution ability is strong. Tell me, will there never be any accidents in your life?” Liang Xuping said.

Jiang Mi lifted his wine glass and took a small sip. “Who knows. I’m only twenty-seven this year.”

“Fuck, you’re already twenty-seven.” Liang Xuping’s tone was emotional.

“You’re twenty-eight too,” Jiang Mi said.

“Sigh, I’m already twenty-eight.”

After sighing over his age, Liang Xuping began complaining about a subordinate in his Development Strategy Department. Before the New Year, he had been optimistic about a new energy company, but that subordinate had actually looked at him with an expression of disbelief.

“That look told me that if I weren’t Liang Hong’s son, I wouldn’t be able to become his superior in ten lifetimes,” Liang Xuping said angrily. “But the most infuriating thing is, that company blew up after the New Year.”

Jiang Mi also began complaining about his work in Country U.

Jiang Mi and Liang Xuping hadn’t chatted so freely in a very long time. They talked about the past and about future plans. The two men chatted until two in the morning and still felt unsatisfied.

It was Jiang Mi who brought up that Liang Xuping still had to go to the company to work overtime tomorrow. Although he was going to resign, before resigning, the work that should be done still had to be completed conscientiously.

Jiang Mi raised his wrist and glanced at the time on his watch. “It’s two-thirty. Go back and sleep.”

At that moment, a fine drizzle also began drifting down on the rooftop.

“All right. Even Heaven is urging us to go rest.” Liang Xuping stretched and said to Jiang Mi, “You drank quite a bit too, and it’s so late. You’re not going back, right?”

It was this late, and it wouldn’t be easy to find a designated driver. Besides, Jiang Mi had no need to go home in the middle of the night.

“I’ll go back tomorrow,” Jiang Mi said.

Liang Xuping picked up the remaining half bottle of wine and went downstairs. “Okay. Perfect. I had the auntie clean up the guest room today.”

The two went down to the second floor. Liang Xuping opened the guest room door. He turned his head and teased Jiang Mi, “Hey, Jiang Mi, you’ve stayed at my house so many nights, but this is your first time sleeping in the guest room, right?”

“Get lost. Lawyer Jiang is sleepy.” Jiang Mi was in a bad mood. Liang Xuping was truly bringing up the one thing he shouldn’t.

“Fine, fine.” Liang Xuping asked again, “Showering? I’ll get you a set of pajamas I haven’t worn.”

“Okay,” Jiang Mi said.

Jiang Mi had only been back in China for four or five days and hadn’t adjusted to the time difference yet. But California time was currently morning, meaning Jiang Mi had gone a whole night without sleeping, so he was somewhat tired.

After washing up, Jiang Mi got into bed and closed his eyes.

But after an unknown amount of time, a familiar distending pain suddenly came from his abdomen.

Jiang Mi shifted into a lying-flat position, wanting to endure the pain until it passed.

But as time went by, the pain became more and more obvious, and from a distending ache, it evolved into a burning pain.

Jiang Mi couldn’t help hissing. Remembering that he hadn’t brought his medicine to the Liang house today, Jiang Mi pressed the place where the pain was coming from, stretched out his hand, took the phone on the bedside table, and called someone.

One minute passed. No one answered.

Two minutes passed. The call hung up because no one answered.

Jiang Mi could only call again, but Liang Xuping still didn’t answer.

Feeling that this stomach pain would not weaken without medicine, Jiang Mi could only get out of bed with a pale face. He slowly left the room and moved bit by bit to Liang Xuping’s door, then knocked hard.

However, one minute passed, and Liang Xuping gave no response. Two minutes later, Jiang Mi still didn’t hear any movement from behind the door.

His face was somewhat twisted from the pain. Just as he drew out a bit of reason from the pain and began thinking about what he should do now that Liang Xuping was sleeping like a dead pig, the door behind him suddenly opened.

Liang Jinyi stared unhappily at the man knocking on Liang Xuping’s door in the middle of the night. His tone was displeased. “It’s only four o’clock. In the middle of the night, you…”

Before he could finish, the man across from him, wearing gray silk pajamas, turned his head. Liang Jinyi’s eyes immediately narrowed. “What’s wrong with you?”

Jiang Mi was quite able to endure pain. He worked hard not to let his voice tremble. “My stomach problem flared up.”

Liang Jinyi pressed again, “Then why are you smashing Liang Xuping’s door?”

Jiang Mi said, “I didn’t bring medicine. I wanted Liang Xuping to get up and… hiss, buy medicine.”

Hearing this, Liang Jinyi abruptly shut his door.

Looking at Little Brother close the door so mercilessly, Jiang Mi felt that now it wasn’t just his stomach hurting, but his heart too. This little brother probably couldn’t be coaxed back.

As he thought this, his abdomen spasmed with pain. Jiang Mi’s whole body weakened, and he nearly fell sitting onto the ground.

Liang Jinyi put on a jacket and opened the door, only to see Jiang Mi collapsed by Liang Xuping’s door, even his hair damp from the cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He ground his teeth, took two big steps forward, and lifted the man horizontally into his arms.
