Ruan Chen was picked up by Lux and dizzily rested his head on the merman’s shoulder.

“Mm… I’m flying…”

Lux suppressed a laugh. “Mm. Where are you flying to?”

Completely drunk from the fruit, Ruan Chen spoke without the slightest logic.

“Tastes good…”

“No matter how good it tastes, you can’t have any more.”

Lux held him securely and swam toward the military hospital.

The moment he moved, Ruan Chen became even dizzier.

“Burp… stop spinning… stop spinning…”

By the time he was placed on the examination table, Ruan Chen was already seeing stars.

He stretched out a hand and shakily pointed at Lux.

Lux caught his little paw and said to the accompanying military doctor, “He ate an entire source crystal fruit.”

The doctor froze.

Lux was still worried that Ruan Chen would struggle like before. After all, every time he was put on an examination table, he acted as though they were trying to kill him. Even several nurses together could not hold him down.

But this time, his human was unusually quiet.

Those dark eyes that made every merman want to cherish him gazed silently at Lux as he obediently allowed the doctor to move the instruments over his body.

He even lifted the hem of his shirt on his own and pointed at his slightly swollen belly, full from eating.

“Here… you missed here.”

The merman doctor was amused by him.

“We’ll examine that right away. Don’t rush.”

Then he looked up at Lux.

“Admiral, your human is so well-behaved.”

Lux raised an eyebrow and gave an ambiguous hum.

“He is very well-behaved.”

Once the examination was complete, Ruan Chen sat up on the table and opened his arms toward Lux.

The merman doctor looked at him enviously.

So this was what it felt like to have a human…

“How are the results?”

Lux picked Ruan Chen up and rubbed the back of his neck soothingly.

Only then did the doctor turn to the various readings displayed on the optical computer.

His brows furrowed slightly.

Lux asked, “Are there any side effects?”

Lux could spare a day.

On the way back to the command room, the movement jostled Ruan Chen slightly, making the world spin unpleasantly around him.

Lux smoothed his black hair and coaxed him softly.

Feeling that their surroundings had stopped moving again, Ruan Chen pushed himself upright and plopped his bottom down on the fish tail.

Lux supported the back of his head and his waist to prevent him from slipping off.

“Not telling you.”

His long lashes drooped.

The expression on the human’s little face was completely different from usual.

Lux found it fascinating and experimentally pinched his cheek.

“Ruan Ruan.”

If Ruan Chen had been sober, this action would have earned Lux a swipe of his claws long ago.

But now, Ruan Chen merely widened his eyes and tilted his head up.

“Who’s Ruan Ruan?”

Lux’s heart trembled.

Such an obedient human brought every wicked instinct hidden deep in his bones straight to the surface.

“Ruan Ruan is you.”

Lux slowed his voice and guided him.

“You’re Lux’s little treasure. So who’s the little treasure?”

Ruan Chen tilted his head and thought very seriously.

Unfortunately, his brain had already turned into mush.

After a long while, he blinked and shook his head in confusion.

“Don’t know…”

Lux’s throat moved slightly.

He changed to a simpler approach.

“Ruan Ruan, play a game with me. All right?”

“Okay.”

The word game immediately made Ruan Chen’s eyes light up.

“Mm.”

Lux’s lips curved.

“I’ll say a sentence, and you repeat it. If you get it right, you get a reward. If you get it wrong, there’s a punishment.”

Ruan Chen asked, “What… what reward?”

Lux smiled.

“The reward is that I kiss you once.”

As he spoke, Lux activated the recording function on his optical computer.

Lux held Ruan Chen’s head and aimed him toward the optical computer.

“Mm. Very good.”

Lux praised him.

“Ruan Ruan gets a reward.”

Seeing the face drawing closer, Ruan Chen suddenly reached out with his little paw and pressed against it.

Thinking he had sobered up, Lux stopped and observed him for a moment.

The human’s eyes were still covered in a haze of confusion.

Still drunk.

But Lux had still underestimated the situation.

The obedient Ruan Chen who believed everything he said and did whatever he was told seemed to have suddenly vanished.

As the source crystal fruit’s juice was gradually absorbed and digested in Ruan Chen’s body, he only felt as though he had endless energy to burn.

He desperately wanted to find a martial arts gym and pick a fight with someone.

Unfortunately, there was only one merman in front of him.

Ruan Chen grabbed a fistful of Lux’s long hair.

Pain tugged at Lux’s scalp.

He hissed.

Ruan Chen was stubborn.

“If I say I can, then I can!”

Not only did he pull Lux’s hair, he also gathered it together and gestured as though he wanted to tie it into a little topknot.

Lux rescued one lock of hair from his hands, only for Ruan Chen to grab another section immediately.

“Stingy!”

Realizing Lux would not let him touch, Ruan Chen turned away.

His attention was immediately captured by something on the command room table.

Ruan Chen caused chaos for half the night.

Lux remained tense and watched him carefully, prepared to soothe him with mental pheromones the moment he showed signs of weakness or exhaustion.

Yet his human only became more energetic.

He did not display a single adverse reaction the doctor had mentioned.

By the end, he had become completely unreasonable.

Lux’s hair had several braids in it, and Ruan Chen had randomly pressed buttons all over the control panel.

Lux was equal parts exasperated and amused.

He assumed Ruan Chen would gradually tire himself out and calm down.

Reality proved he had once again thought too much.

After being stopped for the third time from touching the upright round object on the control panel, Ruan Chen became unbearably curious.

Finally, he found his chance.

While Lux lowered his head to untangle his hair, Ruan Chen grabbed the slender rod in his hand.

“Ruan Ruan!”

That was the communicator linked to the entire Base X channel.

Lux hurried to take it away.

But it was already too late.

Ruan Chen’s eyes shone brightly as he shouted excitedly,

“I’m not drunk at all!”

Lux: “…”

At the same time—

A loud, energetic string of cries rang through the headsets of every merman soldier and officer in Base X.

“MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOOOW—!”

The broadcast system on the central platform simultaneously blasted the sound across the base.

“MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOOOW—!”

“Meooow—!”

“Ooow—!”

The echoes lingered endlessly.

“Ruan Ruan.”

Lux sighed helplessly and tried to negotiate the communicator back from him.

“You can’t play with that. Be good.”

Ruan Chen hugged it tightly with both paws and dodged the merman’s hand.

“It’s my microphone!”

He turned around and lowered his head.

Light shimmered in his hazy eyes.

“Not only am I not drunk… I can sing. Sing a song…”

He thought for a moment.

What should he sing?

Oh!

Got it.

Ruan Chen’s eyes lit up.

The merman soldiers assumed Admiral Lux had some instructions and instinctively pressed their communicators.

Some even turned the volume all the way up.

The next second, a long series of rhythmic “meow meow meows” flowed through every merman’s communicator.

The soldiers froze at first.

Several seconds later, the soft, sweet voice seemed to carry some kind of magic.

Their spirits suddenly lifted, and expressions of enjoyment and intoxication spread across their faces.

“Ruan Ruan…”

Lux, the closest to the singing, felt his pupils contract slightly.

That sensation from the first time he heard Ruan Chen’s cries—

The feeling of his mind going completely blank—

Had returned.
